I must say that although i am young and i do like some games, if i find a book that i really love, i choose the book over any game.
How about you, do you agree that books can be addictive ? Ever started a book and couldn't let it down from your hands until you finished it ?

I agree that books can be addictive if you find a really good one. I have to admit though, it's been years since I've read a book that really kept me entranced.sad [Shar19]
I would recommend you the books from Sophie Kinsella - i simply loved all of her books and they are both fun and keeping you in motion and making you want to read more. Actually she's the author of the book i just finished this morning (i skipped the morning classes for it :D) [elitess]
Books are addictive in a good way. They engage in you a world and make you think of things you might not have thought about before. They force you to use your brain and not sit passively by. That sensation is highly addictive. Of course, you have to have the right book. There are books out there that are about as engrossing as watching paint dry. But when you find the right one, there is no game, television program, or movie that can tempt you away from it. You've got to find out what happens next, you've got to interact with those characters some more. Books are such a wonderful thing. They can take us anywhere and they never leave us once we're through with them. [DoriLentrich]
Thanks for the best response, I appreciate it. [DoriLentrich]
I love books! I've read quite a few I don't like to put down and have read far into the night when I should be sleeping. I like really old books, classics and I'll read those sometimes but I love a good horror mystery like those written by Dean Koontz. Stephen King has come out with some good ones recently, I can't wait till his newest one gets to my library! [dragon54u]
i agree. books can really be addictive. i'm not really a book reader, but i tried to read that book called angels and demons, then got addicted to it. i even reached half of the book. but got busy with school and had not able to continue it. [knyn23]
I agree that they can be addictive, no question! If I find a book that really grabs me then I'll sometimes read it from beginning to end in one sitting. It can get quite funny at times too, because I'll be laying in bed and struggling to keep my eyes open just so I can keep on reading! Then I'll wake up the next morning and I'm still holding the book! lol [James72]
I'm a book addict and proud to say so. I read basically everyday. If i'm not reading, like I'm driving, I'm listening to an audiobook. Just for the month of February, I finished reading 16 books. I have been a reader since I was a little girl, started reading at 4 years old. Sometimes I would read until the wee hours of the morning, even though the next day is a work day. I also enjoy chatting about books with other fellow readers. My favorite place to do that is goodreads.com. [wayz12]
I agree with you! I have a knack for finding good books. But finding the time to read them is my problem. I even get yelled at by my teacher for reading in class! If I could get paid to read books, I would have probably found my life career! I wonder if someone is going to eventually come up with something like that? I would totally look into a career class on that. But then again, to me, the funnest part about reading books is finding the littlest times to read them and the suspense. So I maybe a career wouldn't be a good I idea. Books are meant for leisure time. Well, most of them :) [Cillysophie]
Hi elitess, I used to read all the thime and yes I was addicted to my books, if I liked the author I would read the book and before its finish I would get tow or three more of the books and read one after another, I have stacks of books all over the house and in the attic and then I stopped reading books when I got addicted to Suduku puzzles and now that is stopped because I took up computer, I wonder what next? Tamara [tamarafireheart]
Yes, that was how I was when I used to love reading books. It was very hard for me to put the book down especially when the book is getting so good, I can't help but wonder what will happen later in the book. I love to read. I just have not been reading like I used to do. I would try to read as many chapters that I can to get to the main point before putting the book down..happy [cream97]
Yes, reading is addictive. There is a kind of books in Chinese that is really addictive. We call it the "sword fighting tales". This kind of books is very addictive, so much so that readers can forgo dinner and sleep. When I was in high school, I started reading a series and ended up sleeping at 3 am. It is more thrilling than playing mmorpg. There are many students hooked by reading and fail all the exams. [scheng1]
haha, punkgal, you are worse than me! You are addicted to reading and buying books! Buying books is a very expensive addiction. I used to have the same addiction, partly due to the smell of new books. Love the smell of new books, whether paperback or hard cover books, much like people love the smell of freshly baked bread. But I wean off the addiction, there's simply not enough room to store all the books, and giving them away is very painful. [scheng1]
I have to agree that books really can be addictive. I'm not sure what it is exactly, but there's just something about them, which make them so addictive. I can understand that some people aren't as interested in books as others, but I'm simply not one of them. [dodo19]
I have a friend that says I am addicted to reading. My response is that it is cheaper than drugs. It is not just one book that keeps me from doing things it is most any book. I just love to read. [okkidokitokki]
I remember that when I read Jurassic Park by Micheal Crichton, I couldn't stop till I had completed. I hadn't seen the movie. I even made an excuse to miss school that day! [omairabdullah]
I have seen all the 3 movies, but never read the book. I don't think it is available either, but perhaps i should search it up. I loved the movies, so i think i will like the book as well. [elitess]
Books can for sure be addictive. I was addicted to a series called "Gregor The Overlander" and I read all 4 books within about a year. It was awesome! [kaven08]
Looking back before I really addicted to read a romance pocketbook, when i started I don't want to someone disturb me and i need to finish it no matter how thick that is. I really love romance pocketbook specially i was in the pick of reading I couldn't let it down from my hands until i finished reading it. [journey314207]
Hello elitess! I agree with you that books can be addictive. I have been fond of reading books and that once I read a very good story, it's so hard for me to stop it. No matter how noisy it is around me, I don't mind and I don't know what's happening because my full attention would be on the book that I read. [aisaellis22]
I'm not really a bookworm or the sort. I never liked reading much when I was in HS and Elementary. But when I got in College, I had a professor who gave me a project to read a certain book. The book was 'The Chronicles of Narnia'. It has 7 books and whatever of the 7 books, I have to read one. Since it was a project I got no choice but to read to pass the subject. Went to bookstore to get it's first book, and that night I tried to read the book. Right there and then, I got hooked. I finished the book the same night. From there, I started to enjoy reading interesting books.. Thanks to my English professor. I really enjoy reading fantasy books. happy [smooch091784]
I love to read. My daughter got into Twilight, she had bought only the first book. I wanted to read it to make sure it didn't have anything bad in it. But I got addicted to it so much that I went out the next day and bought the second. It didn't take me long to read it as well and went and bought the rest of them. When I got done and talked to my daughter about the books and she read them, she asked me to try my hand at writing again. I use to do it for her when she was smaller. So I did and the best part, not can I enjoy writing it, I love seeing my daughter get addicted to what I write as well. [khopkins75]
Yes they are addictive. My home is beginning to look like a library. I read 4 or 5 books a week. I found a book store that sells hard backs for $1.99 and paper backs for $.99. These are books that have been donated to them. Half of what you pay for the books goes to St. Jude Research for Cancer for Children. Not only are they doing something good they supply us with the latest publications. Dean Koontz has written many a novels that I could not put down until I reached the end as well as some written by Steven King. I just read a great book by John Grisham " The Appeal" that was one that you just can't put down until the end. [Kowgirl]
yeah, books are spiritual food for book lovers. It is the acqusition of knowledge and pleasure that drives us so crazy about books. [tudors]
The best book I ever read is probably 'Catcher in the Rye'. I had to read it in school, the teacher would assign us a chapter or two a night to read. I read the whole book the first night! [blademaiden]
addiction depends upon interest..and in my case.. he he.. i love to read books.. he he but not addictive.. and i generally get sleep while reading books..yum,, if it's about games,, addictive only...he he.. [gurudatta11]
Yes, books can be very addicting! I usually don't read the entire book at one time, however. But, when I've finished with the book, if it's a series I do everything I can to get the next in the series. If it isn't a series, I try to find other books by that author. I cannot wait to get to the next book!!! I'm also addicted to online games. [Heifer1]
I agree - I read Jasper Fforde and Terry Pratchett and get really 'in' to the characters. A good book should create pictures in your mind like a movie, and the characters have 'real' voices you can hear. Try the Thursday Next books by Jasper (there's a fan group of us here) - he really gets into it. According to him, there really IS a 'Bookworld' universe where books are real! [jazzsue58]
I've often been unable to put a book down. It amuses me that some people say they will read a book to help them fall asleep. This is the last thing that would work for me. I know I tried it once or twice and yes, ended up staying up a few extra hours instead because I could not go to sleep until I found out what happened! It doesn't even always have to be a really good book, either. Sometimes a book is poorly written, but I still get into the story of it. But I can be in a mood where I'd much rather play a game too. It depends on how well I feel I can concentrate I guess. [belavrana]
Yep, I sure do love a good book.^_^ Actually Im a bookworm...sort of.LOL I just dont have the luxury of having the time to read books lately. I hardly ever myLot anymore either..sigh.. Ive read a lot of books that I just couldnt put down, but I think the most notable would be the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows book. I read it in just two days and those were on school days.doh After Ive finished it I kinda wished that I shoudlve taken all the time that I wanted in reading it cause it was the last book of the series and it was a long wait until the next installment of the movie franchise will be released.doh [bjcyrix]
I just finished reading Twilight and New Moon by Stephanie Meyer. Talk about addicting. I had to force myself to stop reading so I could sleep, but I still only took 2 days to read each. I still need to read the last two books in the series. If you're looking for a series you can't put down, this is definitely the one. [Sky347]
Yes, books were making me addictive. If I only have a little time, then I won't start reading a thick book, better postponed it. Because I tend to read it and find it really hard to stop, lol!.. (Harry Potter series as example). [HiLia2008]
yes i think in a same way as you do.they can be addictive basically it depends on your choice of reading and interest. It can lead to intense attachment making you addict to some extent.. [kumarmanish9]
Hi there elitess, I found book are more relax than a game also it teach us something.. Book doesn't demand like games. Good to see young generation loves books. I see lots of things that cannot find at the internet, but we can find it at books. i love books too. My dad foad me with thousand books so that i will stay in my room and not to be naughty, i remember.. Enid Blyton,..Tintin, ..Encyclopedia,..many more Books are ROCKS!!!lol [diansinta]
You are right. The first time I remember enjoying reading I was in grade school. And I still love it. Only now I don't have much time to read for myself. I am teaching my daughter that it is fantastic too. She is 5, and starting to get a real love of reading. I read Stephen Kings IT in 2 days. [ersmommy1]
Hi, yes books are really addicting. When I was still single, I was very fond of reading books, and comic books. Usually, When I start a book, I end up finishing it in a day. Suspense, thriller, detective stories are some of my favorite genre of books. But I do like love stories also have fun! [red_amethyst]
It is through finishing the whole book I would be able to satisfy myself. I think books are really addictive. If I stop in the middle and if it is in it's climax, it does not matter if I don't get enough sleep as long as I finish the book. [adoremay]
