I don't have any kids, but there are quite a few I hope to pass on to my nieces someday. I loved all the Judy Blue books; Little House on the Prairie, Chronicles of Narnia, and even the Flowers in the Attic series once they get to be in their teens. I don't know if I have ever read Anne of Gables, but I have seen some of it on television and enjoyed it! [itsmefaith]

I just got my son into the little house books. He gets graded on reading books with the points and reading levels they are on. I found out that he liked the show and when we found out that they were based on truth, it made it more fun to read about. I loved shel silverstein books and my favorite is The Giving Tree. I've read it 10's of thousands of times to my kids and myself and I still cry. I have great memories at the time when I got the book and it takes me back to that time. I also loved the nursery rhyme(sp) books. Jack be nimble.... My daughter loves the Golden Book series and my sons love the Lemony Snicket books. We like to read in this house and I am thankful for that. Like I told my kids, you can be who you want to be in real life with hard work and determination, but you can be who the character is in the book in seconds. [peedielyn]

It was Little House in the Big Woods that I have read when I was a child. Laura is both amusing and endearing. I also read Charles Dickens' Christmas Carol. We had this 10-volume collection of Bible stories which I never got to finish reading because I always read the same stories about Esther over and over again. The Sweet Valley Kids series was such a hit when I was a kid, my friends and I collected as many as we can. But my favorite childhood book would have to be Louisa May Alcott's Little Women. Although if I had children, I would also like them to read Natalie Babbit's Tuck Everlasting to have a better appreciation for life and living it to the fullest. [seeingstars]

when I was child, it was "sítio do pica pau amarelo" in english something like " The yellow woodpecker litlle farm", by Monteiro Lobato [prisamara]

I loved reading noddy ,The Famous Four,The Secret Seven Enid Blyton books some of them got handed down but many my mum threw away as we grew out of them,a shame really it would have been nice to hand these books on to my kids. [suzzy3]

I love the 'Little House' books. I still have them and reread them a couple years ago. I also loved 'Sweet Valley Twins,' and 'The Babysitters' Club.' Both are series books. Most of those books were given to my nieces. I also loved Dr Seuss, and I do read those to my son. He likes them. [Sillychick]

Hi Cher, Mine was a collection of Winnie The Pooh Stories which I kept and read to my girls when they were younger and they in turn handed down to my youngest son recently. I make sure it is always top shelf so pages don't get torn etc and will read a couple of stories each week from it. Another series that I use to love was The Famous Five and all their adventures. Huggles. Ellie :D [ellie333]

when I was younger I use to read the babysitters club. I have passed this on to my daughter. she loves them. she recently did a reading project on one of the books. Got a 100 :) I also read "mrs frisby and the rats of NIMH" my son just read this book for his reading project and loved it. I'm going to introduce him to the book "of mice and men" and "the outsiders" I think he'll like those books. [shymurl]

I read "Little House on the Prairie" as well. I also liked the Bevery Cleary books -- she's known best now for the Ramona series -- though when I read her it was more Henry Huggins. Beezus and Ramona were rather minor characters in Henry's stories. I also like the "Henry Reed" series and I love "The Enormous Egg." My favorite was "Winnie-The-Pooh": I've always had a soft spot for stuffed toys, and a whole forest of "living" stuffed toys was just beyond wonderful for mehappy [SamQuinn]

I read jack and the beans stalk, cinderella and other fairy tales.Loved Haans Christian Handersons collections. My child loves to hear me reading then for him.I keep all his story books properly maintained so that my grandchildren could read them some day!!!! [pickwick]

Ah, Prince Edward Island. Did you see the TV movie they made from those books? One of my favorites...When I was a child I read the Amelia Bedilia books, along with classics such as Charlotte's Web and as many Nancy Drew books as I could find. It just varied depending on how old I was at the time. [AmbiePam]

The Little House Books. I read those and read them to my kids. Another favorite was Baby Island by Carol Ryrie Brinks. [irishidid]

Iīm afraid that at 63 years of age I havenīt outgrown childrenīs books yet.lolSome of them are so wordout that I keep them in a plastic bag. Thatīs where the first "little house" book lives. I liked (and like) the Little women series except that I would have married Jo with Laurie. But now I can learn about the spaces and society shown. Both Little women and the little house books have a grown up reading too. I often remember Laura Ingallīs Pa saying. I specially love that one that says "thereīs nothing sure in this world except death and taxes. He was a wise man.lol [atacamaval]

My favorite childhood books were Louisa May Alcott's Little Women, Little Men (she wrote a whole lot more, but maybe she would seem old-fashioned to some now). Also Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn (my mother read some of these books to me and it made me want to learn to read!) I went through a "horse and dog book" phase when I read Black Beauty, all of Walter Farley's Black Stallion books, Jack London's Call of the Wild and White Fang, and Albert Payson Terhune's books about colllies Lassie, Lad a Dog, etc. Oh, and for horse books, Marguerite Henry wrote several great ones with beautiful illustrations--Misty of Chincoteauge (maybe I'm spelling that wrong!), Justin Morgan Had a Horse, Sham King of the Wind. Fun books! Lynne [LMPowell]

does comic books count? because when i was a child, i only read comic books. my favorites are the avengers and the amazing spiderman. i don't have a child yet but i pass my comic book collections to my younger boy cousins. [tiohwji]

I read another canadian classic winnie the pooh, that I passed down to my son, superman comics, canadian again, guess you can tell I am canadian lol, and of course all of hans christian anderson, esops fables, that is all that I can think of now [winterose]

I also like anne of green gables but I have just borrowed the book from a friend. What I was reading when I was young was the wise owl collection and sweet valley books. I have a shelf where I store my books so that anytime I want, I can still read them again. My younger brother and my nephew are the ones reading them now. But I did not give it to them, I just let them borrow because I want them to collect their own books like what I did. [aquiah]

I read just about anything I could get my hands on as a child... I borrowed books from relatives, bought comic books, read cereal boxes... LOL Both my daughters are the same way. They're voracious readers and I couldn't be happier about that. The Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys series were among my favorites. I remember one day being home from school sick and I read three Nancy Drews that day. I was so proud *beams* LOL I have a few of the really old Nancy Drew books, with the blue covers, that belonged to my mom. My daughters get quite a kick out of them. [thinkingoutloud]

Am not married and don't have kids but i remember my dad giving me some books after every grade and some of them were his childhood books. The time machine by h.g wells, journey to the centre of the earth and the treasure hunt were some of his childhood books. So, i am preserving those as something special and also as very very old books as the color of the pages are also becoming yellow. [healer]

I loved "The Giving Tree" when I was a child and I bought the book for my children to enjoy as well. I read it to my youngest all the time but he doesn't enjoy it like I did when I was his age. [ZephyrSun]

I used to love going to the library as a little girl and my favorites too were "Little House on the Prairie". I remember we used to get stickers or some kind of rewards for the number of books we read. That was always an added incentive. Another series I enjoyed were the "Nancy Drew" books. [kbourgerie]

I like read Grimm's fairy story when I was a child and some comic strip ,all of them were bought by my father. and when I grow up ,my brother and nephews also like read these old books, that is really interesting thing. [Agathacoco]

I used to love reading Enid Blyton series Famous Five or Secret seven adventures. I used to read every book wtih great interest. Usually I always managed to read the book in a few days. I spent some hours reading at night when every body was alseep using a torchlight. [ronaldinu]

Hi Cher, I used to read books of Enid Blyton and loved them. Most of the stories are of boarding schools and after reading so many books, I had a strong desire to attend a boarding school where I can do all the tricks which the characters used to do in her books(I don't remember the names now). For this I would often insist my parents.... sweet childhood. Ironically, I've two sons, they never liked Enid Blyton's books. [comfort55]

i don't remember but look like that will be story tale books and school books... really that so great stuff ... thanks for your info I will see because maybe not yet in my country... [dianni]

I read the OZ books first, then went on to Robinhood. Never heard of little house on the prarie until my children were almost grown and watched it on TV [savypat]

i remember loving MADELINE and i shared the movie with my son and i also like this book about a kid who had a huge crayon and i do not remember the name of the book anymore but he used to draw everything. we also read this book in third grade called THE BOXCAR CHILDREN that i remember being really good but i have not seen that book anywhere since then and that was about 40 years ago. i think i will look it up on the internet to see if it is still in print so i can get a copy and share it with my son. he is the same age now that i was when i read it. [mikeysmom]

Pilgrims Progress was my absolute favorite as a child, but when I bought a copy for my daughter, I discovered it was a much more adult copy which I had trouble understanding! If anyone has a child's version, I would love to get it! Little Women, Little Men, Oliver Twist, Alice in Wonderland and, of course, when I first began reading, that fabulous classic, D___ and Jane. The thrilling episodes of those two kept me breathless. For instance, See D___ run. See Jane run. See Spot run. D___ and Jane and Spot can run. I tell you the deep meaning behind those words made me decide to write. Alas, I've never created the mystery and fun in D___ and Jane, but I shall continue trying. By the way, I find it difficult to believe D___ used as a person's name is not allowed on this site! [mysticmaggie]

The only books I've been able to save from my childhood are a series called "Sweet Pickles," and my copy of Little Women. I used to read a lot of Judy Blume and Beverly Clearey, which I'm trying to involve my children with through book clubs and library copies. We've also been reading a lot of "The Littles," which is another series I absolutely loved when I was younger. Harold and the Purple Crayon, The Berenstein Bears series, and Nancy Drew are among others. :-) [explorations]

I was raised reading disney princesses books like cinderella, snow white and others. Personally, when I was able to read on my own, Little Women and Anne of Green Gables are the best books for me. I can totally understand the whole story because of the simple plot and I can relate to it also. By the way, I was only able to read 1 book of Anne of Green Gables, is it a trilogy? I wonder where I can find the other 2.... [anneshirley]
lm montegomery wrote 7 (i believe) anne books...by the way, i like your name - very anne of green gables! [cher913]

when i was a kid i loved reading books like cindrella book, little red riding hood.initially i used to keep looking at the pictures and enjoy that only.i used to love the colours of the Dresses and flowers all around.it used to be very colourful.i am single so no kids.but i would love to tell once i have my children to read these books. [henahuda]

I read everything I could get my hands on when I was a kid. some of my favorites were the Dr.Dolittle books (way better than the movies), Caddie woodlawn, the Walter Farley horse stories, and many more. I also loved Anne of Green Gables. Unfortuneately , my children were not readers , but I have passed some on to my Grandchildren. I have even written books for them. [getnbuy]

Hi cher913, when I was a child I used to read Enid Blyton books. The oldest one is the classic "Noddy Goes to Toyland". Then I used to read other books by her like The Famous Five and The Secret Seven stories. These books are still somewhere in the attic in my parents house and I would love to give them to my children someday. I took a look up in the attic last year and managed to retrieve piles of old Marvel Comics and Annuals and I have put them in a safe dry place in my room. As you know a boy always remains a boy and I still like to have them around, even if they are 30 years old... Have a good week. Umart [umart13]

My favorite childhood book must have been Black Beauty, because it was the only hard cover book that owned. I read constantly, but all the other books were from the library and had to be returned. I passed Black Beauty on to my children but don't remember their reaction. [bellis716]

Enid Blyton books were my childhood favorites and unfortunately they are seemingly hard to come by now and they are not available in Italian which my daughter both speaks and writes even though she is English born. I do however have some in my library and they will stay there just in case she shows any interest in reading them in Englih [gtdonna]

Wow, that is such an interesting discussion, I don't remember a lot of childhood books. I do remember a book of bible stories book that I had as a youngster. It was simply more of a realistic book that I enjoyed with quite a bit of animated pictures that really illustrated the stories that they shared about the real stories that I read as an adult now. I liked it so much that I am planning to get that same book for my own kids. [hdjohnson]

I have read all kinds of books when I was younger right now my daughter is reading the babysitters club books and Nancy drew and my other have read things that go bump in the night, along with the works of Shel Silverstein. My five year old love where the sidewalk ends, Her favorite poem is Ickle me , Pickle me , Tickle me too. So I have tried to pass down my love of all kinds of literature to all my kids. :) [bellaofchaos]

I read "Little Women" and the "Nancy Drew Mysteries". I also read some of the "Hardy Boys" books. Those were definitely my favorites. Little House on the Prairie came along after my childhood, so I've never read those. My nieces read them and thought they were quite good. [PearlGrace]

Hi there cher913! I used to read a lot of different books when I was younger. I have enjoyed Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew books. I am not yet married neither do I have children. However, I know that one day, when I will have my own children, I will make sure that they will also have the love for books. [dolce_vita78]
