I really enjoy to read detective novel like agatha christie and sherlock holmes-conan doyle. Those novels are really make me addicted, i even forget my lunch and dinner, i can't stop to read the whole book until i know who is the real killer. Arrrghhh... For me detective novels really make me so exaggerate to eat them! heheh... But don;t ask me about harper's biochemistry, in the beginning, i just feel... want to sleep or go to eat. But i have no choice, i should read that book, even only few parts.
How about you, do you always read the whole book at one time?

I have done that a few times. If the book if really interesting I will stay up and read it until it is finished. I have stayed up until 4am finishing a book when I had to be at work at 8am before. [lilybug]
Hey Lily, You sound like me, most times if I can't get into a book, I'll never finish it, but Legal thrillers, Christian Fiction, and True Crime books are my favorite, and consist of most of what I buy in the way of books, so when I start them I usually end up staying up all night reading them, fortunately for me I am a SAHM so I don't have to get up right away, and I homeschool, so I can have down time every once in a while. I almost always read whole books at a time before I had people to tell me to get my nose out of the book. :P These days I never get to read a book at a one time, because I have a husband, a son, a job... things like that. I kind of miss being able to just sit down with a book and read it from start to finish some days. Now I tend to squeeze my reading time in while doing other things, or during my work breaks, or after my son goes to sleep. I've never had a problem reading textbooks or anything, though. I have been known numerous times to pick up a book, and start reading it, not putting it down til I have finished it. But the book has to catch my attention and pull me into it for me to do this. Other times, I can start a book read a few chapters, and put it back down, not picking it back up for a few days. I like thrillers and mysteries and depending on how the book starts, determines how long I will read it. If its starts of good and gets my attention then I read it right through, if not then I read a few chapters at a time. [maddysmommy]
Normlly yes I do pick up a book and not put it down until I finish it, but lately I haven't really been in the mood to read either, I've been concentrating on making money online, for I feel that is the only way I can earn a digital camera. I bought Grisham's book last week, and I have yet to even get past the 3rd page, and that's just not like me...... I read the whole book until it's completed...I mean I could not even put Harry Potter down... Had to eat at weird times because of that...I think i had my dinner at 2am that day while completing Harry Potter... I feel that unless i complete the book i wont feel satisfied..Hence,I read on.You have to admit though that after the book is finished it feels great,as though a great achievement was made. I'm a Med-student so i have to study huge books...but trust me completing a novel and completing Guyton's book on Physiology are 2 very different things...even though they are both interesting. I was like you when I was younger. Always had the Nancy Drew books in my face. Now that shows my age. Any way, I couldnt put those books down for nothing. I to had to find out "who dunnit". Its silly but it felt wrong to leave those characters waiting if I did put the book down. Now I dont have the time to read a book all at once. In the long run this is better for me. I tend to become attatched to a charactor in a story and the longer the time it takes me to get thru the story the longer the relationship with the charactor. Depends on the book...I have read for hours straight and stayed up all night to finish a book before (though I generally am up half through the night anyway.) Other books I never even finish. I have a husband and 3 kids, so I don't have time to read a book I am not really enjoying. I usually give it 3 chapters to draw me in. Anyway, I read fast and it is nothing to finish a book in a day- but yes, I do the same thing you do as much as I can with the kiddos around all the time. lol. [above31rubies]
I love a great book and especially a good mystery but I have to busy of a life to read it cover to cover without stopping. Sometimes I wish I could tho. Those are the best books...the ones that you really don't want to put down for anything. I usually carry a book in my bag and whenever, I'm waiting at an appointment or for one of my kids somewhere....it passes time. I also read while I eat dinner and before going to bed at nite. yeah I have done that often, especially when I was younger. Recently, I did that with Harry Potter, devoured a book at one go. I just can't stand the suspense and have to know what happens. i know reading is really important, because it's one way of learning so much about anything. But me, honestly, i'm not fond of reading, everytime i read, i fell asleep...i don't know. When i was in college, i really don't read much, i just don't have choice but to read some of my lessons...and reading something else..like novel and stuff...uh, uh...i really can't take it. Well, I had been so very addicted to any series I start reading. My first novels were famous five by enid blyton, that was when I was 13. That was also the time when I started reading books! Slowly, gradually, I gathered the speed of reading, and got the thing that I must finish the book, and the series before starting any other! So, particularly, even in HP, I didn't start any other series until I finished. Those HP books have really got something, that books teach me all abut vocab and expression words! SO, basically, the answer is yes. When I start reading (whether it be any damn book) I always finish and then go for sleep or eat or just anything! [Amagnimo]

I used to get the latest D. Francis book every year at Christmas, (I can't write his first name because myLot thinks his first name is a swear word!) and most years I'd have it finished either the same day or the next. Yes, I usually do, although sometimes it is impossible due to circumstances beyond my control, lol. An unfinished novel nags at me until it is finished, that is, if it is a good one. If it doesn't then it is not worth finishing. [drannhh]
I use to be able to do that before I had kids. Now I'm lucky if I can read a chapter a night. I also enjoy reading police novels/mysteries. I have two series that are my favorite. One is written by Faye Kellerman . . . the Peter Decker series. I am on the 6th book of this series. Then there is JD Robb and her Eve Dallas series. Her latest is coming out any day. I enjoy reading and get "hooked" too. I drive my partner mad by carrying the book around and reading whilst I am supposed to be watching that cooking pans with vegetables in do not boil over (ummm yes, they do, gulp!) and generally answering all questions with "ummmm" whilst I have my nose stuck in the book. I usually take about 3 days to read a book due to necessary interruptions and I re read favourite books, especially those of Philippa Gregory, Patricia Cornwell and Barbara Taylor Bradford just for fun. Once I am near the end of a first time read I have to finish it or I can't sleep because I keep on making up "endings" in my imagination, and tossing amd turning until my partner turns me out of bed to finish the book :-) [shelagh77]
I used to be a book a day kind of person but now with family and kids it takes me a week to finish a book. I still manage somehow to read at night at length. I love all kinds of books. Romanti, detective. My favorite is lord of the rings. I can not still fathom how the author - a single person can imagine and write such a novel. No I don't read the book all in one sitting. The books I read are usually about 500 pages so it would be impossible to read it all in one day. I also read mystery books, like you, but not written by the same authors as you. I like the mystery books that have romance in them as well. I only read when I am in bed just before I go to sleep, at night. This is my way of turning off my brain to all the stress in my life, and relax enough to fall asleep. Sometimes I wake up during the night and can't fall back to sleep, so I turn on my lamp and read for about 15 minutes and then I can fall back asleep. I also will read a book while I am having a bubble bath but that sometimes puts me sleep tight in the tub and then I drop my book in the water and when I wake up I have to leave my book open for a couple days till the pages dry.
