For me, it's buy a book and i buy atleast 25-35 new books a year... it's like a hobby for me. I seldom borrow a book since i have this notion that i have to be very careful with it because it's not mine. however, with borrowing, i know i can save money if ever i don't like the book, i can simply return and won't be ending up with a bum buys.
i hate bums buys! LOL
how aboutyou?

responses and comments:
im not really into books (only if i like the story or the topic) so i would just borrow it if i am in a research or something.. buying books is not that practical because they are expensive. But if you are bookaholic, and collect books as a hobby, well maybe buying would not be expensive for you. [poisonivez]
have you watched "the mist"? [shiloh_222]
if i had the money, why would i buy one? ^^ but for now, i just borrow books from friends and relatives. ~ its less effort and you dont have to take nothing out of your pocket. =) [killerpinx]
thanks for the reply. that's a great idea. [shiloh_222]
I think that's a good hobby. But I seldom buy some books from bookstore.Because I prefer reading book on the internet. Borrowing book is also a good idea I think, and if your home is not far away from library. My home is far away,so I think the internet will be a best way for me to read books. [vipsupervip]
heheehe.. i can't really... it's hard... i can read several characters here and there...sigh [shiloh_222]
Last year I bought and read on average two books a week, but I did not spend more than £100 ($200) in total because I didn't buy any of them new. After reading them I donated them back to the same charities I had bought them from. I love browsing through used books and finding good ones I have not read and want to read. [paid2write]
hi thanks for the reply. that's a great way to help charity... what is your favorite book and why? [shiloh_222]
I borrow and buy. My mother and I belong to a circle of friends and we pass books around among us. A couple of us belong to book clubs and after we read our new books, we pass them along. It is a great way to read a wide variety of genres. Although there are certain authors that I just don't let go of and those books always come back to me after the other ladies are finished. I always really enjoy going to yard sales and looking for books. Sometimes you can get a whole box of books for a dollar. I found two second edition Sherlock Holmes books for two dollars each one time. Of course, I bought them and read them(not my favorite). My oldest(11) has enjoyed reading them though. [trish331]
hi there again...you should... my friend likes it so much. [shiloh_222]
I like to read very much so it's more convinience for me to borrow books. If the book is really interesting I can read it within a day. So I can't afford myself to spend much money for books. Though sometimes I buy them. [INGA832]
Hi. thanks for the reply. what are the books that you bought? [shiloh_222]
I just recently visited my library for the first time ever and absolutely love it. I really like the idea of borrowing instead of buying because a) it's free! b) i only need to read a book once anyways. Plus, I am not disappointed if I don't like the book... [kemmerlin6]
hi thanks for the reply. how often do you visit the library? [shiloh_222]
I usually borrow my books (I read ablout 200 books in a year). However, when I find one that I really like, I'll go out and buy it. I'll look forst at the second hand book stores, but if I have to I'll pay full price for a really good one. [Essie119]
hi there...thanks for the reply. wow...200 books a year.... what are your favorite books? [shiloh_222]
If money is not an issue, I prefer to buy. I try to stay away from bookstores, because I cannot resist. I would usually end up spending far more than I should. To feed my reading addiction, I get my books out of the local public library. However, when I find a book/s that I really enjoyed and want to be part of my collection, then I go out and buy. Whatever way I can, I just love to have plenty of books. [wayz12]
wow.. that's a lot.. happy mylotting and have a great weekend. [shiloh_222]
Being an avid writer, I read a lot to keep up to speed with whats currently selling in market as well as for pleasure. I write in my books a lot.. I try and use post-its and page markers but I end up scribbling (in pencil) in the margines 90% of the time - so needless to say, I always buy my books. I shell out thousands of dollars on books every year i'm sure. Though I try to stay away from bog chain stores, I end up there when I have a specific book in mind that I need/want. There is a little locally owns buy/sell used book store here that I go into 4 or 5 times a week because it is so well priced. It's VERY unorganzined - there are piles of books everywhere, but you can find some great little gems there. [souless_tragedy]
Hi bababubuy... what books do you collect? [shiloh_222]
I rather buy the book the borrow cause if i don't read it when i get the book; I have the option to read the book when i want to read it. [twallace]
hi thank for responding... yup, how true... how many books do you read a week? [shiloh_222]
I prefer to borrow a book from a friend. Im my country is very hard to find a good book, and most rare yet to find it with a good translation. I may say that we have a big lack in the cultural aspect. [torradalouca]
hello there.. thanks for responding. if you don't mind, where are you from? what's your favorite book? [shiloh_222]
buy then you can read it a couple of times [burnty]
hey there. thanks for responding... yup, i love to reread and reread...makes money's worth, dont you think? what's your favorite book? [shiloh_222]
I prefer to own my books. For me,it gives a special feelings,if someone else had read the book before me [Garfield1]
we're exactly the opposite, i love watching tv and movies. so instead of watching, what do you like to do, besides reading? [shiloh_222]
If the book is very interesting first of all I will borrow it and after that I will buy it. I think many family libraries are full of bought books which are not read again. But it is according to the inviduals' needs of books. To buy or not to buy, to borrow or not to borrow! That's the question! Happy borrowing or buying of books! :) [poppy76bg]
hi there... hahaha..you have a point there... what are your favorite books? [shiloh_222]
im not that much of a book person. the only books i buy are the books that im interested of reading. i figured that there is no use in wasting money to buy books when i could borrow one from someone who has it. and with that money i could buy other things instead. the books that i bought were the books of jane austin, harry potter book 6 & 7, lol.. uncle tomas cabin, war & peace and sophies world. and i havent even read war & peace, sophies world and uncle tomas' cabin yet. heheheh.. but i heard they are good to read. [katbalu102]
hi there... i am like you sometimes, i buy books that i stashed for awhile and read them when I am not busy..LOL... who is your favorite author? [shiloh_222]
I always buy them, mostly secondhand. The library here only has dutch books (I live in Holland) and I mostly read English books so.. [breathless_]
hi thanks for the reply. who's your favorite author? [shiloh_222]
I like to buy books as well because if its a very good book then I want to keep it and try and re read it again. If I borrow a book from the library or a friend and it is a very good book with a good story then I have to go out and buy the book to put on the book shelf. I know a cheap book shop where you can buy good novels for £1.99 which is very good as I am on a strict budget for everything. [Anne18]
hi there... yes cheap bookshops helps alot...LOL... i do hunt for books there too... what is your favorite book/story about? thanks for the reply [shiloh_222]
You really buy a lot of books, I dont buy that many when I buy. I dont like borrowing. Do you go to the library? I buy just about all my books, I dont even togo to the library. I would only buy books that interest me, so I dont end up with bum books as you called them. [sun2day]
yes i do...LOL...and that does not include computer programming or Software books that i buy...LOL... yes, i borrow books from the school library sometimes, but i rather buy... what books that interest you? [shiloh_222]
I get mine from thrift stores. I rarely find a book I don't like. I read a lot, maybe 30 or so a week, so I have to get them used. Of course, I am always re-reading my favorites. [Bd200789]
hehehe.. who are your favorite authors? [shiloh_222]
I don't like to borrow books either unless its from the library. Unfortunately our library is limited on new books. If I can't find what I want I check half.com and see if they have it. If not I will try Books a Million. If I'm in a hurry I may check there first. [lucy02]
i read biographies like marie antoinette, Elvis presley, hudson taylor, etc. question, do you like book turned into movie types? like chronicles of narnia, lord of the rings? [shiloh_222]
I usually buy used books at really cheap prices ... usually, no more than one dollar (for hardcover books). I'll buy from the grocery store, salvation army, tag sales or library. The good thing is that the money that I spend on the book usually goes to some sort of good cause. After I'm done with the book, or if I decide that I don't want to read it I'll just put it up for sale at half.com, which is a site that gives you great deals on used books. I love this site. The only downfall with my way of buying books is that you don't get new releases very often and you have to search through the books so requests are often impossible. (Half.com has a pretty good selection, though.) I'm ok with this because it often takes me forever just to finish a book. (Hard to set aside time.) I've just know been reading the Devil Wears Prada, and I'm embarrassed to say how long it's taken me to get to the end of the book. I'm still not finished, yet. [jalucia]
hi there... have you seen the movie version? STarring Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep? [shiloh_222]
I generally just borrow books, usually from the library. I tend to only buy books i've really liked, or else ones i really want to read but can't get hold of otherwise. Then i often sell the books again on ebay!! [duck2day]
hi. who's your favorite author? thanks for responding. [shiloh_222]
I prefer to buy a book. I want to have my own copy of my favorite authors' books. I don't like borrowing it. I keep a copy of my own and keep it in my book shelf. happy [bianroxas]
hi thanks...who's your favorite authors? [shiloh_222]
I tend to buy books instead of borrow them. I get books from my dad when he finishes reading them though. He travels a lot so he buys books all the time. I get to keep them so it is different from borrowing I guess. I like to collect books which I why I would rather buy them. [moneyandgc]
hi thanks for reply. what are your favorite books? [shiloh_222]
id raher borrow because i usually get tired ofa book after reading it twiceee [ameeluv]
hi. thanks for reply. who's your favorite author? [shiloh_222]
Hi, shiloh_222, I prefer to borrow books rather than buy it. Well, for me book are for one time entertainment, so it's not worth to buy it. Unless the book is so interesting and I'll repeat reading it few times. Then, I'll consider to buy it. [lieanat]
hi. thanks for reply. what's your favorite books? [shiloh_222]
i think for me it would depend on the book. if its a shorter book then no i wouldn't buy it. i would much rather get it from the library and then return it when i was done. now on the flip side i would buy it if its was a longer book i would buy it because i don't know how long it would take for me to finish and i would want it for when i could read it and not have to worry about time constraints and overdue charges. and if i enjoyed the book i would keep it so i could read it again, and if i didn't like it i would seriously consider donating it to the library [Palmerhusky]
same here, i usually donate my books during Christmas. what is the most memorable story/novel you ever read? [shiloh_222]
Well the only time that i would purchase a book is if it a really good book that i read already and know i like and want to read again or if i looks like a very good book other wise thats what the library is for. [ChrisH09]
hi there... how often do you visit the library? [shiloh_222]
I would like to buy books which i like very much .That means I will read them carefully. But i also borrow some books from the libary because i may just look at some pages of them to find special material. [jyjnl_jia]
It is a Chinese author called Yi zhongtian [jyjnl_jia]
I prefer to buy a book over borrowing it. I rarely ever borrowed a book from the library as I was always worried I might misplace it or it would get damaged somehow. Even though I have taken good care of the books I did buy, I still couldn't help worrying that it might happen if I were to borrow a book. doh [sacmom]
I don't really need to buy books nowadays. But when I was in school I bought about 10 a year. [sacmom]
although borrowing books from friends and family is money-saving, i prefer to buy my own books. i love reading and i consider the books i buy as investments. [crazyoverpurple]
hi there... thanks for responding. how many books do yo have? [shiloh_222]
I got into the habit of joining libraries when I was at school, and the habit stayed with Me in my teens and 20's.. I am still a Member of my latest local library, but haven't borrowed books in over a Year from there now..Libraries give You a free trial of books at no risk..check them out and enjoy them-Great,get another,or dislike it,hand it back,no Harm done! You can explore a favourite Author's books,or discover new writers in Genres You Enjoy. If You Enjoy and respect books,You will be careful with it anyway, whether You buy it or borrow it..and as You say,a Bum Buy is no Fun! [ShepherdSpy]
It would be borrowing for me. I read too many books. Buying them all would need too much money and too much space to store. lol rasp [lordwarwizard]
if i have money, i'd usually buy my favorite book. =) but if i can borrow a book from my friends then good. (at least i can save money) [chaigay20]
shocked Wow! that's a lot of books shiloh. I prefer to buy my own books. I am just not used to borrowing things. I love collecting books so I prefer to buy. But if the book is so expensive I just borrow it.happy [toni_nakama]
I borrow books most of the time, sometime I buy a book if I think that it good to have such a book in my home. [as2006]
I have never borrowed a book unless its not available anywhere. I just like to buy the book so that I can read it whenever I want to without any botheration of returning it! [mayka123]
I don't like borrowing a book because it's hardly to find brand new good books in the library. I like to own something I like. I like reading and therefore I like to have the books for myself. Besides, I can leave my books for my son and that's a good treasure. It's OK for me not to buy a new dress, but I need to buy a good book. I prefer to spend money on this aspect. I love China [youless]
i preffer buying books than borrowing so that whenever i feel like reading it it is just there and i would not feel any pressure on finishing the book fast so that i could return it soon to the owner. i like to have my book very well taken care of and sometimes i do not read it just once i sometimes re read it all over again when i feel like it. [kaezy_kulet]
if i have the money and i really like the book i would buy it...just to make sure that im buying a good book.. i would usually go to bookstores wherein a can read it first before buying it.... books are one of my rare collections... :) [kenchiprincess]
hi kenchi... what are you favorite book genres and why? [shiloh_222]
I buy them. Usually from second hand shops and places like Goodwill where the books are only $.25. I love books! I have over 250 here with me and more at my moms house! [naturallyme]
I tend to like historical romance. But i like most anything (Not sci-fi though). [naturallyme]
Hi shiloh! I always buy books. the only time that I've borrowed one was in the university library for a project. I don't really like borrowing books from friends or others for that matter. I love books and I love reading books. I have like bookshelves full of m collection of books since I can read and appreciate it. :) Cheers! [marababe]
My favorites as a child were the Disney fairy tales and the Berenstein Bears. I've also a Lady Bug collection of books. :) Then when I was in grade school I started reading Sweet Valley pocketbooks and Goosebumps. From there, I've appreciated almost all kinds of books. [marababe]
I prefer to buy it rather then just borrowing it... how about you?! [blackhole]
I like novel kind of books!! what about you?! [blackhole]
At the minute, I actually buy mine from the charity shop they are very cheap to buy from there and then when I am done I take them back and I get a discount then off my next lot of books. I do buy books though but only if it is a new release of an author that I really like and then I just have to buy it because I cannot wait for it to go into the library. [gemini_rose]
I use the public library for just regular reading. There are some books that I buy new, but not that many. I collect old books, though, and will shell out the money for them. Most of them are classics of one type or another. But I don't just buy books I want to read...too expensive. [CherylsPearls]
That's interesting! I will only buy hardback's. I have just never liked paperbacks. Children's books is one of the categories I collect, also. I have around 300 books. Not a great amount, but I'm very picky! lol At the library, I mostly read new novels by authors I like or authors that are completly new to me. Sometimes I borrow cookbooks, do-it-yourself books, books on crafts, etc. I've always loved going to the library. [CherylsPearls]
In tha past I used to always buy new books. Now as I have so many of them and seldon read a book twice I trade them in. We have quite a few of these store near where I live so I can trade 2 for 1 so I am always getting something new to read while getting rid of all the ones already read. [whiteheather39]
I read everything except Westerns and Harlequin (Yuk) Romances. How anyone can read that sappy tripe is beyond me. [whiteheather39]
Growing up I'd be a regular at the library. I guess I got a lot of practice in at that time for when I'd be grown up and go to the bookstore. I still use the same strategy as I did then. Start at one corner and then move along till you end up where you started. You see I have a big problem. I happen to be interested in a lot of things so I'm never looking for just one particular book. And anyway sometimes you spot something that was put in a wrong place and it turns out to be "just what you needed". However I do have to admit that I do prefer being able to keep a book. Especially if it's a good one. If it's not really what I expected then I guess I just had a bad hair day that time. [aplaza]
for me, it's depends. i usually borrow a book. i only buy the book, when i really like the book. When I'm still in college, i always buy the book, because the lecturer used it, and the book still look new.. I wonder why??? huhu; but the book really help me a lots right now, because sometimes i need to refer it. [steffy182]
hi steffy182 ... what book are you referring too? thanks for the reply [shiloh_222]
Well I like to both borrow and buy my books. the thing is I've borrowed more book than I've ever bought. If i borrow a book and i thought it to be aw some, i go buy that same book in a store when i get the money, so i can have a read at it again in the feature. I love books, weather it's mine or not i take very good care of it. Books are like precious gems to me. There are so many children in the world who may not have read a book before. But for me weather buy or borrow it doesn't matter to me. [jessieBee]
Hi thanks for the reply. i agree with it being precious gems...i find them treasures too... could you please tell me of your favorite scene in a book? [shiloh_222]
Books have to be fresh and clean and should smell like a flower plucked from the bush a fresh.I hate the books handles by the other hands.I want to own my book all for myself. It is always an experience with a book you love. [balasri]
thanks for the response... yes, i agree... however, new books are quite expensive... i just buy half brand new and half second hand... how many books do you buy a year? [shiloh_222]
I like to buy my own books.I like keeping them and I like to read them all over again if I like them.I hate it when people borrow books from me as they nver return it.So I never borrow from anyone. [biggerb]
hi there...i had bad experiences, too...some of my books where unreturned. the problem was the orginal person who borrowed, lent it to another then to another...until they lost track of the last person of borrowed. i felt bad. i only lend it to people i trust. how many books do you have right now? [shiloh_222]
I will buy a book. The library is over two miles away and it is only open certain times, and often the books are on hold forever. I also borrowed some books, and one of them was misplaced when it was returned and everytime I went to the library, they asked for it back, which seemed pointless since they had it already. So I stopped going to the library. I could not finish the books in the amount of time and there were some I had borrowed again, so I decided if I keep doing that, why not buy the book? I have quite a number of books most of them because we joined the Readers Digest Select Book Club. I am still reading through them, but it is a long process since I tend to go through them very slowly. [suspenseful]
Hi there... borrowing can be a hassle, right? wow, a book club... wish i can be a member of one what's your favorite story/book? [shiloh_222]
I also prefer to buy a book rather than borrow. When the book is your own then you can read it at your pace without bothering to have it to return . I love to see the vast collection of selected books in my cupboard which I don't show to any other person for the fear that they might ask for it which I hate to do so. So neither borrow nor lend. [comfort55]
hi there... yes, buying a book can be very satifying... i have bookshelves here overflowing with books. please tell me about your collections. thanks [shiloh_222]
I love buying books. I havent been to the library in years, I dont like having a time limit on when I have to have a book read by. I also have a dream house with a huge library. I own about 100 or so books right now. I wish I had the money to buy as many as you do a year though lol. [darkjedi]
hello.. i buy most of my books through second hand stores. they are way cheaper than brand new ones. me, too, i dream of that too. LOL... what book titles do you love and why? [shiloh_222]
I prefer to borrow, as I might not like it. But if it's a book that I really like, and would continue to enjoy, I might buy it - but not usually. My htought is why buy when you can borrow, or possibly find it for free, or really cheap, at a yard sale or something. Save a Tree and borrown your books! [dmillman]
hi there...yep, you a point in borrowing... hope you will feel better to know that most of the books i bought were printed on Recycled paper... do you swap books with your friends and family? thanks for the reply [shiloh_222]
if i read a bok or i see a book with someone and i think its a must read for me then it becomes a must buy as well,i dont enjoy people rushing me to return a good book so ui would rather get my own copy so i can read and read again. [BYOLA2871]
you can never get all the points in a good book at one reading and you may also need some kind of reference as time goes on,i love self help books ,religious books and motivation books,i seldom read romance its too unreal for my liking, but i read a lot crime books and biographies and auto biographies [BYOLA2871]
Wow... You must have spent a lot on books. Personally, I prefer to borrow books. It make more sense for me as I do not read a book more than twice except for text books :P [whyaskq]
Sorry to say I am not a fan of any authors :P [whyaskq]
Hi Shiloh I'm also into books, the only thing about borrowing with is that I don't if I will every return.Anything can happen, I did have a book I got from work and I finish reading and i told my daughter about it, she read it and I neer return it. I also like collecting books, I usually go to Goodwill, and get around 20 books and spend maybe 10 dollars. They have the hardcover, paperback. their books run between 95 cents to 1.25 adn I'm talking about Stephen King, Michael Crichton. I also go to yard sales, Barnes and Noble and only buy there when they have sale. It you really to buy book, try to Goodwill, they have so many to pick from. Instead of paying full price, you pay at most 1.95. [kaleegirl45]
hi there... that's great. how many books do you buy in a year? [shiloh_222]
When i go to Goodwill i'll buy around 10 books, and that's because my husband is not the type to waiting aroud. I'll going by myself. I need to go back. [kaleegirl45]
I prefer to own a book than to borrow it. I especially don't like borrowing books from the library cuz you have to return it within a certain time. I don't want to have a time limit when I read books cuz I want to read at my leisure. I tend to savor the words, so...But like you, I also have my share of bum-buys...and they're all stashed inside a chest so I won't have to be reminded how much money I've wasted. =) Sometimes though, I wonder what I''m gonna do with all of my books once I have no more space for them, and I'd resolve to buy less of them...but I'd still buy a book if it sounds good to me. [peeohdee]
I have spent a lot of money on books in the past - both for myself and my children...but I am happy to borrow also. I am trying not to spend so much on them these days as I don't get much time to read with 2 boys under 3, but I still but books occasionally. [toosh21]
I am the same way. While i dont but as many books i still like going to the bookstore and finding a really good book. After a while ive built up quite the collection which is somethingg else i like to do. [Farside604]
Hi shiloh, I would love to be able to buy all of the books that I like to read, but that's not possible for me. I usually borrow from the Library. Blessings. [Pose123]
I have always prefer to buy book than borrow. BUt normaly before, sometimes, buy a book, im gonna borrow a the library and after if i find really good buy it. But mostly, i buy and i know what im buying! [julie85]
I have always prefer to buy book than borrow. BUt normaly before, sometimes, buy a book, im gonna borrow a the library and after if i find really good buy it. But mostly, i buy and i know what im buying! [julie85]
Well, I used to buy all of my books because like you, I don't like to borrow other people's things for fear that I would ruin them (not that I'm rough on anything but still!). I just recently found a website that you can post the books that you've already read, and no longer want, and trade them off to other members, and only pay the shipping prices to do so. Every time you send out a book to someone, you get a credit to get another book from someone else on the site. I really like it. I'm pretty sure it's for all countries too! If your interested, PM me, and I will give you a link to it. [jenni7202]
I usually buy technical books about computer science. I can't handle to just borrow from a classmate. I just borrow novel fictional books. [cautionhot01]
I have some books in my place. I rent some books from a local library as well as dvd's and stuff. I buy some books once in a great while. Of course, I have lots of interests in reading about certain topics. So I go to the library once in a great while. [Jakesnake1978]
When it comes to me,i do like to buy books than borrow one.I would like to own the books for my own.But it also depends on the money, how many i have. Many of my classmates and friends can't understand me.They think that if we can borrow the books from the library, why to waste the money to buy it.After looking the books, the books is useless. They know the contents and remember them.but i don't think so.I prefer to hold my own books to read.I can make same marks in my books,i can write on the blank of the books.I can hold the books for ever.If i buy the books,it means i love to read it.i will read more than one time. I can't express the different feeling betweens buy one book or borrow it for me clearly.but i do prefer to buy.I don't have so many money to buy all of the books i want to read or love to own.but i will buy one after one.I can't withstand the desire of buying books. [moondan]
hi shiloh. I borrow books from my boyfriend. He has a lot of books and his parents has also a nice personal library. I borrowed books from library in the past, but now I don't go to library. Because when I borrow books from my boyfriend, he wouldn't give me a month to read a book. When I take a book from library, I have to give it back after a month. I don't buy books because I am too frugal to do so;). And I still rent a flat, so I move from time to time. the more books I have, the heavier it is to move them to another flat. have a nice day, jazgottt. [jazgottt]
I do both. I borrow tons of books from the library. I do this because book scan get really expensive. I recently found out, while I was at the Dollar Tree near our house, that they have a pretty darn good selection of books. I have found all different kinds of books on so many different topics there. The way I figure it is that if I buy books there and don't like the topic, it's no big deal because it's only cost me a dollar. [cortney09]
Hi There, Reading and buying books is one of my favourite things to do. I must say that I very rarely borrow books...it is always buying them. I am not actually sure of why that is to be truthful. Maybe I just like the idea of ownership and knowing that the book belongs to me. cheers, [golfproo]
hi there...yup, i collect and collect...right now my bookshelves are overflowing...books are everywhere... how many books do you buy each year? [shiloh_222]
I tend to buy my books and lend them out to some of my friends and family. LOL!! but I tend to buy a book becuase I love to reread what I have read. LOL!!! [bellaofchaos]
i prefer to borrow book than to buy it.Because i think there are many books that just waste of money, then why not borrow them. But,when i find some significative books i would like to buy . [stephanie725]
I too worry when I borrow books that I will mess them up. I am afraid I will spill something on it or a page will get torn. I even feel bad about the normal wearing of the spine. I too prefer to buy my books. If they aren't very good I will pass them along to someone to keep and pass along too but if I like the book, it is added to my personal collection. [emma412]
I will choose buy one If I borrow one book from others or some places, I can not write something on it. I like writting something when I like the words. Also I like the feeling when I see so many books on my room. That is a wonderful feeling. But I will not buy some easy books . And there are not some knowledge. I think that is a way of wasting money and time. [SusannaW]
i don't buy books as i go through them pretty fast. i have ever read four books in one day. that's basically a whole day of doing nothing but just reading. it's really enjoyable to be able to sit down with a good book and do nothing else for that few hours. my dad loves to buy book so we've got thousands of books at home. therefore i resort to borrowing from the library mainly to satisfy my reading urge. rather that than turning my home into a library. [applefreak]
Most of the time I buy it but I have a few friends that I've swapped books with and borrowed books from through the years. I must admit I haven't bought as many books recently as I have in the past because of the economy and the price of books seems to have gone up even more than some other items. I have many shelves full of books I've bought through the years and I've reread many of them years later and it's almost like reading them for the first time. Annie [anniepa]
I love to read. I usually buy my books from the flea market because I can get them for cheap there. Then I just pass them on or sell them in a yard sale or something. Also, other people give me books to read too so that's good cause then I don't have to spend money on them. [sweetgirl_k1]
with the high price of books, I borrow in the library [asawanialvin0611]
I usually buy books. I then take the ones that I have read and go to the 1/2 price book store and exchange for new ones. I belong to 2 different book clubs that I order from probably 4 times a year each. [carrie08]
I would buy two or three books a week. I love to read. I myself dont like to borrow books because I would be afraid one of my kids gets it from my room!!! [elemental69]
I have not bought or borrowed a book in about a year. I tend to borrow books off friends or buy them cheaply off the internet, because I don't like paying full price for something that I will only use once. I find it difficult to read a book more than once. [Elixiress]
I don't like borrowing books unless I know the person I'm borrowing the book from won't be angry if I accidentally mess the book up. I'm generally really great with my books and they're in great shape but you know that things do happen. I prefer to buy my books even if I happen to buy the book used. I just like buying it anyway. It's nice to have my own book that I can keep and read at my own pace. [highflyingxangel]
i would prefer to buy books..specially when i want to collect it.., i have a collection of sidney sheldon.. jd robbs, i also have john sanford.. i just bought it from garage sale.. so i got them at a very low price.. but i still have to get them all because my collection of their books is not yet complete [nephele]
It depends, as I read a book only once, I see it more reasonable to borrow if, and knowing its not my possession, im very careful in maintaining its condition :) [excellence7]
I always like to bought a books and after reading it I always include it in my book collection..... [Ohara_1983]
I would rather buy a book instead of borrowing, because i have a very bad habit, while i am reading, i like to use the pen to make the marks on the books, if i do not do it in this way, i feel i could not concentrate, so how can i borrow books from others? But there are occasions that i borrow books to read, because i can save some money in this way, such books like some novels, which in my opinion, not worthy of buying. [xianxian54]
Hmmm ,for me it all depends .If the book is used for study i will buy it .Because i wil make many marks or write down some of my ideas beside the words .I have tried to borrow one and doing all the marks with my pencil but the resoults is so terriable .I clean the book with my rubber for nearly half an hour .After this ,I seldom borrow this kind of books but choose to buy it ... The others such as the novel ,I'd like to buy the one i like or i wil borrow it ... [seagullkang]
I honestly prefer to buy mine. I will often purchase them used to save money but I just prefer to buy them. I also trade them online at a site I use for swapping book. [hockeygal4ever]
thanks.. happy mylotting. [shiloh_222]
i prefer to buy than to borrow from friend or in the library. my habit since i am a kid i want my own things. all of my books in college are purchase from the bookstore. i don't want to bother other people. what if you can't returned it on the given time. it's embarrassing . this is my attitude. i have lots of books here. i love to collect books specially if it is helpful in my daily activities. [julyteen]
thanks.. happy mylotting. [shiloh_222]
i'll buy books too, not sure how many i buy every year but it's quite a number too. i like to read and collect boks although i think i'm running out of space to store 'em hehe! shocked [kevsgirlalways]
thanks.. happy mylotting. [shiloh_222]
Hi Shiloh good question, but I disagree with you on this,I like borrowing,I feel better that I borrow one book then I can finish it on time and reture it,If I buy one ,I dont know when Could I finish it.I do not know why, just think of this, take care [Petercheung]
thanks.. happy mylotting. [shiloh_222]
I like to do both. I borrow books from the library if I want something quick and interesting to read. I usually buy books if i know I'll need them for future usage. Just last week I bought the Stephanie Meyers, Twilight book no. 1. There's a movie coming out at the end of the year and it looks good. [mishastar]
thanks.. happy mylotting. [shiloh_222]
Hi shiloh, I use to borrow books from library instead of buying. But I have to say I don't really like borrowing. I borrow books just because I don't have enough money for buying books, so I have no choice (unless I give up reading, which I won't). If I have enough money I will certainly buy books so that I can read anytime I like without caring overdue. [jickyeung]
thanks.. happy mylotting. [shiloh_222]
Hello as a professor of physics and a regd astrologist, numerologist, gemologist my choice of books is large. I have a huge personal libray on these books, that I have builtup in the last 45 years. I have purchsed all, no borrowing lol. [bhubaneshwars]
hi thanks for the reply...happy mylotting. [shiloh_222]
dear shiloh_222 First of all I am to inform you that I hate borrowing whether it is money or any article. But here I do not think borrowing books is bad habit/ I have seen students are borrowing books within their friends. In our society we are having books bank and from there we can exchange books as buying books is too expensive/ Poor students are taking books from library on rent basis. There is nothing wrong to borrow books provided the same is being returned in time to the owner. pkc3000 [pkc3000]
thanks.. happy mylotting. [shiloh_222]
buy that I will have it, forever!! [momz2gd]
hi thanks for the reply...happy mylotting. [shiloh_222]
I prefer to borrow books as books are quite expensive and as I am only going to read a book once then I think it is a waste of money. I would rather get a book out of the library as it is borrowing, but you don't really have to be THAT careful with it as you would have to be if it was a friend's book or something. However I do hate getting a book out that has had odd substances split on it. GROSS! [Elixiress]
hi thanks for the reply...happy mylotting. [shiloh_222]
I do too choose to buy books instead of borrowing one. I love books and it would be unpleasant for my part not if I would return books that I love to read again and again in the future. [jmlcabular]
thanks for the response... happy mylotting. [shiloh_222]
This is going to sound strange but I never borrow a book Not even from the Library. I only read books that I really enjoy and if I do get a book I am not to fond of I give it to someone I think will enjoy it. Books to me are friends that have helped me through some bad times and to give my favorites away is like being ungrateful. [patms1]
thanks for the response... happy mylotting. [shiloh_222]
i prefer to buy book so that they will stay with us forever. I generally buy 40 to 50 books a year.I have a small library at home [mythreya]
hi thanks for the reply. that's great. i have one too..happy mylotting. [shiloh_222]
I'd usually rather buy a book than borrow it, even if I get it used. I like my books too much to have to give them bak. When I actually want to read something, it's something I'm genuinely interested in, so it is smething I'll want to keep aterwards/ [danishcanadian]
hi thanks for the reply. what are your favorite books? ..happy mylotting. [shiloh_222]
i only buy books if its on sale. lol i don't have that much extra money to buy expensive books. i usually buy second hand books. like the two books i recently bought, Anne Rice's Feast of All Saints and John Grisham's The Brethren. i only buy new ones if they are cheap. most of the time, i just borrow. i'm a responsible borrower so the person i borrow from doesn't worry lending me books. wink [secretbear]
hi thanks for the reply...happy mylotting. [shiloh_222]
I don't really like borrowing something from someone because I also have the tendency to be very careful with it since it's not mine. And I don't like that. I really love purchasing books and it's not uncommon for you to see me on a bookstore holding piles of books and whatsoever. Hehehe.... Have a good day! And enjoy reading! [xXSnowFoxXx]
hi thanks for the reply. happy mylotting. [shiloh_222]
I rarely ever borrow a book unless the person doesn't want it back. I don't like to borrow a book that I have to return because then I would also be afraid of ruining it, I fold the corners of the pages when I put my book down so I can go back to it and know where I have to start reading again. I usually buy my books from a second hand book store as they are a lot cheaper and I can trade three books for one so I wait till I have at least 12 books to exchange and then I get four books from them in return. I get a lot of books from my clients that I clean houses for so I have never run out of books to read. I have about 40 books right now to read and a book lasts me about a week so I have enough books to read for the next year or close to it. I sometimes pass my books off to family members but now that I have moved away from them I won't be doing that anymore. [chrislotz]
hi thanks for the reply...happy mylotting. [shiloh_222]
I love to buy books even if I have read them fro ibrary, If feel books are things to be possessed not just to be read. Infact I used to buy books so much that my mom once had told me she is going to sell them all out if I didn't took them from her hands , I told her books are windows f the house, she laughed and said then our house is just full of windows and there are no walls left anymore. I have been collecting books for quite sometime now. There is a site called bookcrossings.com check it out, you can share spare books with everyone on the planet over there. [mansha]
hi thanks for the reply...happy mylotting. [shiloh_222]
I like buying new books . I buy atleast 30 to 45 new books a year and its part of my hobby . In some cases I borrow books but I hate borrowings books . [noel0000]
hi thanks for the reply...happy mylotting. [shiloh_222]
I prefer to buy a good book. I hate burrowing or lending. I hate burrowing in case I spill some tea on it, although I am very careful with burrowed books. I hate lending to other because in most cases, they never return in their original state. Usually I prefer to buy books from Ebay. You can find good bargains there. [ronaldinu]
hi thanks for the reply...happy mylotting. what's your favorite book? [shiloh_222]
I buy at least 5 books a month. And during book fair, i will buy at least 10 books. I prefer to buy books because i love to keep books. I have a habit of reading my books over and over. So i prefer buying books.lol [corngrass]
hi thanks for the reply...happy mylotting. [shiloh_222]
Hi there Shiloh. I like to boy books rather than borrow them especially if i am interested in them ( i don't really enjoy buying books for school for example) as i like to build up my library from now when i am still young. I think this year i bought the most books ever (about 10 or more) - i just turned 21, so i think that is good enough - and apart from that i had quite a few books as my parents had hundreds. [elitess]
thanks for the response. nice to hear that... what are you favorite books? ... happy mylotting. [shiloh_222]
I lurvveeee buying books! I love the smell of new books in the bookstores. Haha! But if I weren't sure about a book or if I really wanted to read one but no money to buy it, I'd just go to the library and borrow it. Wow, 25 books is already a lot! If only I could spend that much on books but as a student, I have to be frugal when it comes to money. Hah, if I were a millionaire, then it'd be a different story. I'd just buy up the whole of Borders, my favourite bookstore! [Josette_J]
hi there... thanks for the reply. happy mylotting... well, you can mylot your way to a new book every month.. won't that be great? [shiloh_222]
i love reading,.i have always read by taking books from the library.if the book is very good,i buy a copy of it. [riyasam]
hi there... thanks for the reply. happy mylotting... waht books do you have copy of? [shiloh_222]
Woah, you have 112 responses to this discussion before mine. Very cool! I'm more of the buying the book kind. I like to have my own books but a few months ago, I decided to get my own $1 library card for the public library and leaving that place with three good books to read was a happy moment for me. I got to read another one of Anthony Bourdain's books from that public library. I like to borrow my brother's books because he has tons of books that are very interesting but he's very OCD when it comes to his books so I don't really enjoy reading them so much because I worry that I may tear it or accidentally fold a page or spill liquid on it. [SaintAnne]
hi there. thanks for the reply. happy mylotting. [shiloh_222]
I would much rather buy my own copy. As for borrowing, I rarely borrow books from friends. I used to borrow from my school and university a lot, but now that I'm no longer in school, I don't think I've borrowed any books from anyone at all. I'm also really obsessive-compulsive with my books, in which I don't crease the spine when I read it, so when I got this new Sherlock Holmes Vol. 1, I just read our university library's old copy and kept mine in pristine condition. I also don't let people borrow my books. Hehehe, I'm really paranoid about my books getting damaged. [mymelodake]
hi there. thanks for the reply. happy mylotting. [shiloh_222]
Most books I borrow. I have a group of English speaking friends and we pass paperbacks around. One person buys it and 10 or more read it. I'll go to the used book shop and get a stack of books at $1 to $2 each. happy My used book lady also has a chest of free books. They have usually been read to death and are really worn out. I get some of my best books from there. [TheCatLady]
hi there. thanks for the reply. happy mylotting. [shiloh_222]
Hello Shiloh...afraid i used to "judge the book by it's cover",literally! so i can certainly relate to 'bum buys'. I let myself get conned into buying pretty books yet crappy reads. Now, i tend to borrow them..or would sit & read first chapters of pretty books at bookstores...if they happen to be pageturners & seem promising enough to become one of my "Favorites" ...i pretty much buy 'em. [FikiFiki]
hi there. thanks for the reply. happy mylotting. [shiloh_222]
