Do You Dog-ear Or Use A Book Mark When Reading

hey there. for me, i simply memorize the page number and close the book. however, not all the time, i can remember and i had to flip the book back and forth and try to locate my place. i tried bookmarks, however, i end up misplacing so many bookmarks that it's not worth it and i can't stand to fold the page or even dog-ear the corner...LOL how about you?

[question posted by shiloh_222]

responses and comments:

Hi there Shiloh! If the book is mine, I just dog-ear it. But if I just borrowed it, I use a bookmark. [nanayangel]
hi thanks for responding... what's your favorite book genre? [shiloh_222]

As I read more than one book at a time I wouldn't be able to memorise all the page numbers.lol Why not just use anything for a bookmark. That's what I do I use till receipts, old lottery tickets or sometimes takeaway menus. I agree that dog earing is not an option as it damages the book. [Foxfire1875]
It varies as I have about 3-5 books on the go at the same time, also it depends how much time but on average I can get through about 2 or maybe 3 a week. It would be more but I need to do boring things like eat, sleep and do housework.lol [Foxfire1875]

Hi shiloh. I always use a book mark. I have many book marks because sometimes I'm reading two books at the same time lol. So everyone that know me give me book marks since they know that I love to read. cheers [teka44]
I really don't know. Maybe 20 or so. I have beautiful bookmarks that my friends gave my. [teka44]

I agree with the first poster. If the book belongs to me, I dog ear the pages. If it is borrowed, from the library or a friend, I always use a bookmark. Why the difference, I dont know for sure. I guess because if the bookmark falls out then I have lost my spot, but dog earing I can always find the last page I read. [melissaruth1]
SHRIEEEEEK!!! Sorry. A moment to recover for this former rare books & manuscripts library worker.... :o[ It's EXTREMELY rare that I feel the need to DOGear -- maybe if I were on a plane & a terrorist attacked, & I dropped my bookmark, well.... Seriously, I use handmade bookmarks made from acid-free paper, decorated by ME, as I'm an artist. I've made specialty bookmarks for friends for stocking stuffers (usually stuffed into a BOOK). FOR THOSE WHO ARE AFRAID THE MARKER WILL FALL OUT, just use a plain strip of paper, & before you close the book, simply jot down the number of the page you were on. That way, if it does fall out, you can still find it! Dogearring. Euw! :::shudder::: Maggiepie [Maggiepie]

I always use a bookmark. Now it may not be a traditional bookmark, it could be anything I happen to pick up that is handy - a slip of paper, an envelope from junk mail that I've thrown out, a grocery list, etc. Most of the books I'm reading lately are from the library and they have the card in the back so I use that. I tuck it in the slot made for that purpose in the back of the book while I'm actually reading, then pull it out when I get ready to put the book down. How do you keep losing bookmarks? [Ldyjarhead]
wow thanks... i will go and visit. i am forever looking for great authors and great reads... how many books do you buy per year? [shiloh_222]

Sometimes I dog-ear mine, but thats only if I can't find a book mark. I'd much rather use a book mark, it keeps the book neat. [shymurl]
when I can. Usually its in the bath tub, where I have peace lol [shymurl]

I used a post-it note and stick it quite a long way into the page. It never falls out, and doesn't damage the book at all. [CelticSoulSister]
MAKE SURE THE BOOK TO WHICH YOU DO THAT ISN'T VALUABLE. As one who's rescued many a book for the library where I worked for mumbledy- mumble years, I learned that Post-It Notes leave a residue, which, over time, eats away at the paper. Acidity of any sort will eventually destroy a book, as will many other factors (light, temperatures, moisture, etc.). Call me pernickity, but I've seen what becomes of poor old books, & they all remind me of wounded, Elderly people, each with a wealth of information, yet dying literally before my eyes, turning to powder in my hands, unable to pass on their story to the next generation. Makes me feel like crying. Maggiepie [Maggiepie]

If its a book that I own I dog ear the pages OR use a bookmark (LOL my kids are forever bringing them home for me from the school library so its not like i have a shortage of them)..If its someone elses book though I always use a bookmark...I could never just memorize the pages like you do though since I read more than one book at a time LOL [Ravenladyj]
I think in my entire book reading lifetime...i had dog-eared twice and i can't take the mutilating of books..i cringe everytime when i see a folded book...LOL... good that you have a good supply of bookmarks... how many books do you read in a week? [shiloh_222]

I'm a book lover and I hate it when I see my books being mistreated..hehe, well, I'm really careful with books especially my favorite ones (perfect example: my Harry Potter Books) so, having said that, I don't dog-ear books, I can't find the guts to do it...haha, I use a bookmark, or if there is none available, I remember the page as well...or usually the chapter, as I stop reading after chapters. I find it hard to remember when I stop reading midway a chapter..hehe [vianneyanzu]
that's a good suggestion, chapter by chapter... how many books do you have? [shiloh_222]

Books are to precious to me to dog ear them or fold a page. I always use a bookmark, whenever i see bookmarks that are cheap, or free, i just take a lot that way when i do lose one i ahve another lol. I wish i could memorize the page number and then find that again easily lol. [darkjedi]
I think I have about 10 left or so, I moved from california almost 5 years ago and my favorite bookstore had a whole bunch, so I took a bunch of them. Im also very good on bookmarks lol. Most of the time Ill use a bookmark until it cant be used anymore at all, torn down to a small tiny very easily lost piece. [darkjedi]

Dog-earring books should be considered a criminal offense. I just usually shove whatever piece of paper is closest to me into the page - my bookmarks are usually missing in action. Another thing I hate is when people leave their books open up-side-down. This cracks the spine and makes them look ugly. Of course what people do with their own books is their business - just so they don't do it to mine when they borrow them. LOL [Essie119]

I always use a bookmark when I am reading. I don't like to see book pages dog eared and damaged, I prefer to keep books in the best condition possible [recycledgoth]
hi there... yes i agree.. i even wrap my books with clear plastic to protect the covers... do you do this too? [shiloh_222]

I use a book mark. i cant stand dogged ears...of course i am anal about such things. and if you have a hard time keeping track of your book marks might i suggest a plastic coated paper clip? they make them in little squares that are perfect for using as a bookmark...wont ruing the page and its not likely to slip off and you end up losing it. happy reading. [Palmerhusky]

I tried that trick too - memorizing the page number but it only worked well for me when I got back to the book very very soon. Usually, chances are I won't get back to the book so soon. rasp And so, I use a book mark! Recycle your postcards and they make very nice bookmarks. I don't fold the pages - only those people who don't read or those who are plain selfish, inconsiderate or messy would be inclined to do that! angry You are right not to fold the pages. Use postcards or even e.g. pamphlets - anything really that can be used to "mark" the page. Be creative! lol [lordwarwizard]

I use bookmarks, mostly. I always do on hardbound books. On paperbacks, if they're already dog-eared, I'll do it. You know, my friends and I do a lot of passing books back and forth. I know what you mean about losing bookmarks. I had a really nice one someone gave me that I left inside a book on a bus. Never got it back. waaa. Wish I had it, was a nice memory of that person who lives far away now. [Anhedonia]

I have book marks and they work fine. I try to make sure that they are on the correct page when i finish reading. I don't remember the page number. You can try this though; go and buy some thin string lace; make sure it's long enough for you to tape the the inside cover of the book you are reading. and run the sting to the page that you stop reading on. Then that way you don't loose your place in the book or loose the book marker. [twallace]

I'm weird, I use a bookmark but not the regular kind. Usually it's a slip of papter or something of the sort like that. Something I don't care if I lose. [k1tten]

I usually use a bookmark. I don't use a real bookmark. I just use anything that is available to be used as a bookmark. Sometimes, I use a piece of ripped newspaper or any paper I can find around me. I don't want to fold any page or dog ear the corner because I don't want to break the book. I try to memorize the page number but I keep forgetting it. [wilo2001]

I usually dog-ear my books. I don't think I could remember the page number even if I tried! My grandmother always told me that a dog-earred book was a sign of a wonderful, loved book, so I think that stuck to me and I dog-ear them. I wish my memory was a good as yours! Happy reading! [di1159]

I am afraid I am guilty of dogearing the books that I read but they are mostly mine so only myself to complain. I do use bookmarks on library books however as I do not own them. [Hatley]

You have an interesting method there but I'm afraid my memory isn't good enough. I have a hard time remembering where I put my glasses. I would never, ever dog-ear a book so I always use some kind of bookmark. I have a whole bunch of giveaway bookmarks from the libraries and bookstores but they never seem to be there when I need them. I usually wind up using whatever is available eg. ticket stubs, pieces of scrap paper, clean napkins etc. [irisheyes]

Between the librarian in grade school and my mom, I ended up feeling that dog-earing a book was an insult to the author. I taught my kids the same thing. Right now I'm using a twig from a camping trip as a book mark. I missplace every bookmark I buy. I lose my page too often for my happiness. I try to remember the page number because I don't get too much time to read. I hate wasting that time looking for the page I was on! Whatever is near me is subject to slavery as a bookmark. [anawar]

I dog ear them lol. We do have bookmarks but I usually end up reading two or three books at a time, and so I've found it's easier to just dog ear them rather than hunting for a bookmark. My partner absolutely hates me dog earing books, but the way I see it, is, there's nothing quite like a well read book that LOOKS like it's well read. We can't keep them looking brand new forever, otherwise we'd never read them for fear of bending the spine. [angelwhispers30]

I use whatever scrap piece of paper is floating around as a book mark. [dark_dragon525]

When I was a kid I dog eared the books. As an adult, I have grown a deeper respect for books. So now I use book marks. I do lose them once in a while. So then I grab a piece of paper or reciept, whatever I can grab. [ersmommy1]

I use my bookmark because there are times that I forgot what page that I am on.. happy [bianroxas]

I mostly use a bookmark. It kind of Security for me to keep where im am. But I can remember sometimes the page, but use book mark same. [julie85]

I normally use a scrap of paper or a tissue as a bookmark. I do have 1 bookmark that I have been using lately. I hate dog eared pages in a book. I do not do it. [lilybug]

if a low quality book,I will dog-ear it,when I pause my reading.on the contrary,I will use a book mark.when I valued a book very much,I always write down the page number on a single paper. [midautumn]

I cannot stand to dogear a book, and I cannot stand to read a book like that. And I have lost every bookmark I have ever had....so what I do is use a little piece of paper, or a post it. Post it's work wonderful b/c even if you are in a hurry and grab the book to take to work with you-which you know is possible b/c a good book is THAT good- you can loose your marker. And you must have a wonderful memory. B/c I am doing good to remember what chapter I am in, much less the page number. [taface412]

When I read Ellery Queen mags or old paperbacks, I earmark. Regular books, I use any small piece of paper within reach! [laglen]

I usually bookmark with a paper clip so theres no chance of it falling out and causing me to reread several pages to find my place. [Browisn]

i fold the pages hehehe.. or sometimes dog-ear it..i do not have book markers hehehe and im not very of it..ihad one before and i always misplace it then it will just get lost so i just fold the pages. [kaezy_kulet]

i usually use bookmarks, or more like random pieces f paper that just so happens to be near me at the time i decide to take a break from reading the book... i really can't rely on my memory by memorizing the page number..hehe.. [camilletherese]

I prefer using bookmarks but I never seem to keep any bookmarks. I always end up losing them somehow. I always want to buy bookmarks but it's kind of useless since I lose them all the time. I usually shove anything that I can in there, like a slip of paper to save my spot. In rare cases I'll dog-ear the page but it's only in books that I don't mind if they happen to get a bit damaged. [highflyingxangel]

Well since I don't have a good memory for remembering things I do fold the corner of the page down if I do not have a bookmark or piece of paper to use. But I only do this is I am going ot stop reading the book for the night or leaving and taking the book with me otherwise I just turn the book over opened to hold the place. I know it can ruin the binding it is just a habit though I just leave it like that if it will be just a few before I am reading again like eating or taking a bathroom or shower break. [mtdewgurl74]

If the book is a hardcover, I will use the dust jacket flap to keep my place. Sometimes I will grab a piece of paper from anywhere near me to use to hold my place. Once in a while, if the book is a used one or in bad condition, I might dog-ear the page corner but like you, I don't like doing that. It harms the book. When I took classes at the community college and people would highlight their books, oh my, I had a problem doing that cuz it messes up the book. Once in a while I would highlight but I had to force myself to do it. Yep, I like to keep my books in good condition cuz I love 'em! [horsesrule]

like you, i simply memorize the page. i think dog-earring tha page looks messy and well, i'm not an avid bookmark user.LOL or better yet, what i do is i read by chapters so that by the time i pick up the book again, i know which chapter i'm on already. [crazyoverpurple]

I can NEVER ever bring myself to dog-ear a book. Books to me are precious and I treasure them - I wrap them up in a plastic cover, and keep them in relatively good condition. Once a friend sat on my book and that was the end of me loaning books out to ANYONE. I usually use bookmarks but I don't have anything special set aside for bookmarking. Sometimes, it's a piece of paper, or a card. My hubby uses a very very old 10 ringgit note I gave him - it's no longer in print. Post-its work well sometimes but it depends on the material of the pages. If I don't have anything handy, I just commit it to memory. If I forget, I start from the nearest page and move on...just like re-watching a movie. LOL! [meiteoh]

I collect bookmarks, especially when they are free. And I try to keep my books in as good condition as possible. When I have finished them, if I no longer want them, I sell them on Amazon.. [derek_a]
I also have a collection of free bookmarks as I usually trade 2 for 1 or sell my books. [whiteheather39]

I never dog ear my books. I learned this at an early age when using school text books as dog earring was a big no-no. I always use a bookmark. [whiteheather39]

i usually just memorize the page number because that was already my habit when reading books. AND i also misplace bookmarks when i use them. [tagger]

The answer to this question all depends on if the book is mine or not. If the book is from the library I will use a book mark because I don't' want to mess up a book that's not mine. if the book is mine though I will usually dog ear the corner of the page, although sometimes I will use a book mark. [cortney09]
In my case whether it is a borrowed book or not, I never fold any pages. I love my books and I also take care of others' books. [wrangel15]

Hi There, Well...I think the best thing to do would be to use a bookmark. This way the book will have a longer life and will not start to become tattered. This makes it nicer for the next person who goes for a read. That being said however, I do dog ear the corners myself. Old habits die hard! cheers, [golfproo]

i use a bookmark because most books that i read come from the library. too high to buy books anymore, darn it. i have been known to dog ear my own books but not a good idra really. happy reading, one of my favorite past times. [ANTIQUELADY]

Hello Shiloh, I'm Mama Vickie and an avid reader! I love fiction the best. Mysteries, thrillers, dramatic romance, suspenceful killer fiction, just about any plot an author can come up with. My only mandatory rule is that the good guys or girls [whomever the hero/heroine is] they must come out the winner....you know....whoop the bad guy. I have quite a large library of my own that is still growing. I like authors such as Nora Roberts, Sandra Browm, James Patterson, Johnathan Kellerman, Dean Koontz, and many, many more including christian authors. I guess I am a bad girl tho' because I have been known to mark my place with bookmarks, bill receipts, pens, pencils, tissue paper like kleenex, and even dog ear the corners when necessary. Just whatever works to get me back to my place when I am ready to read again. My focus is the reading of the book I guess, not how I am marking where I left off. I've even been known to use a colored marker to circle the page number, easy fix. thanks MAMA VICKIE [vickmahon11]

It is easy to memorize page numbers and the page where I read the last texts that I usually just close a book after reading it for a while. It is easy to get back later since I usually remember the last line I have read. In some cases, I just put a bookmark or a card (like cellular cards) to mark pages. In putting mark on pages, I never fold a page. I am a book lover that I hate them having folded pages. In that way, my books and the books I borrow will last for a long time. [wrangel15]

I used to do that, memories the page number. I never dog-ear a book. I think it's a barbaric practice and really feel for the book. These days what I do is use bookmarks. I have several bookmarks because I like to read different parts of a book at different times. I don't usually read novels but when I do I don't need anything to mark my spot because I never put a novel down until I'm finished with it. If I don't like the first few pages then I close the book. That book then is finished. [underdogtoo]

I never dog ear my books, I used to but then it ruins the book and so now I just use a bookmark. I do not have a special bookmark, I use any bit of paper that I can get my hands on. I tend to sell or give my books away after I have finished with them, unless I want to hang on to them for any particular reason so that is why I will not dog ear the pages. I would not be able to memorize the page I am on anymore as too much goes on around me, years ago I used to. [gemini_rose]

I simply highlight a corner of the book. I hate seeing books with dog ears [marciejo99]

i create a memory location in my brain where i store the page number, lol [megaplaza]

I hate to dog ear the pages of my books it drives me bonkers when my SO starts reading them and then he does it I flip out and take the book back. It's part of my ocd issue that the pages remain how they are. So I definitely use a book mark. [bellaofchaos]

Since I sell used books for a living I know that dog earing ruins the value of the book, bookmarks ca also leave some edgewear, so I don't do it. When I am reading a book I use a single sheet of toilet paper as a book mark, and have it is slightly sticking out of the top of the book, toilet paper is soft and thin and does not ruin the book in any way. [ladym33]

I too just cant stand folding the page or dog=earing it.I always use a book mark. [biggerb]

i always use bookmarks. but if ever i can't find one, i don't dog-ear the book. i just jot down what page where i stop. [teena22]

I use a bookmark, and I have a few books with bookmarks in them. However if it is a reference book or a non=fiction that I will want information about at infrequent occasions, I will use an envelope or a piece of paper since I am not really reading it through, I am researching a section. I cannot see dog earring a page. I cannot even stand using a high liner to emphasize a paragraph or a word and if I get a coffee or tea stain, I go ballistic. Kids marking books I can understand, but I am an adult! I want my books to look brand-new. [suspenseful]

hi, it seems like you have a good memory. I never memorize page number of those books I read , I use both method like dog-ear and bookmark . However , I seldom dog-ear and if the book I read was borrowed from others , i will never dog-ear . Most of the time I use bookmark from recycle item such as name card, hard cardboard of boxes cut into rectangular shape ,ads leaflet, cut out of triangle shape from corner of an envelope and paper clip. [asimo603]

Hi shiloh, I think I might have trouble memorizing the page number, so I always use a bookmark. I do not like to dog-ear pages in any book. Blessings. [Pose123]

Bookmark only! I love to read and hate to see any reading material disgraced and defaced.Just one of my own little quirks.Call me strange but it really upsets me. [vhansen]

I have to use a book mark or anything I find laying around that's flat. I can't dog-ear the corners, because in my opinion it damages the book. I don't lend my books out for the fear, I would be lending it to a person that dog-ears instead of taking the time to use a book mark. When I'm reading, I will put my book mark, in a few pages ahead of me, and once I get to that point, I just move the book marker two more spaces ahead of me. So once I'm done reading, I can easily get my marker, mark my spot, and be able to pick up where I left off. I have used a typical book mark, a old receipt, scrap paper, etc for a marker. In my house, it's easier to find a marker, than a typical book mark. [chertsy]

I use the nearest thing to hand, till receipts, old envelopes, even scraps of paper. It's not that I haven't got proper bookmarks, it's just I can never find one, when I need them! I don't turn down the corners, I think my Dad would come back and haunt me if I did - Just joking. He was very strict about the care of books! [Annmac]

No, I don't dog ear any book. I cannot stand to see a book bent or the pages folded down. I use bookmarks of all kinds to mark my place. Books are really special to me. [mamacathie]
thanks for the response. [shiloh_222]

I use book darts (little Metal strips that not only mark the page, but the line where you stopped reading). I find them better and more useful than traditional bookmarks. [DarkDancer]
I'm rather fond of Science Fiction and Fantasy. Horror is also a genre that I enjoy at times. Non-fiction can be good, it just depends. What do you like? [DarkDancer]

Depending on if its my own book or a borrowed book. If its my own book and i cant find a book mark I'll dog-ear the page but for the most part i use a book mark or just try to remember what page i was on. Folding the page of a borrowed book makes me feel bad. [saundyl]

I am like most people and dog ear my own books, but bookmark a borrowed book. [tanniebabe78]

I use bookmarks when I only borrowed the boks. Sometimes, I fold the pages especially when its a paper back. SOmetimes, I use small post-its so I won't forget the page where I stopped reading. Since I am having difficult time memorizing the page where I stopped, I would dog ear or improvise bookmark. [chrysz]

I always use a bookmark in the book I am reading. If I don't have a "bookmark" I will pick up a piece of paper that is laying around. One of the things that I use quite often is the papers in the magazines wanting me to subscribe to the magazine, although I have many bookmarks that I have gotten from various places. I even have one that someone cross stitched for me. I remember winning one when I was in elementary school that was a little worm and was furry!! I would NEVER turn down the corners of the pages as to me that is destroying the pages and I love books too much to ever do that. I was taught a love of books at home when I knew that they were full of so much information and not always easy to own. But I did always go to the library when I couldn't afford to buy them. [idowrite72]

I am very proud of my collection of books so i like to use a bookmark. I have taugh my children a bookmark is the best thing to use when reading a book and you want to put it down before finishing it. If I have a book from the library I always use a book mark, it would be very rude and disrepcetable to dog ear a book as that book doesn't belong to you. [Anne18]

I could never remember what page I was on by just remebering the number I left off on. I have a horrible memory. I dont use bookmarks because I like to remember the exact line that I am on so I use business cards which fit great in the pages to show where I left off. They usually last through a couple books before they get gross and have to be thrown away. Plus you can get them just about anywhere so I always have ones on hand. I save any that I get and keep them for when I need them. [shaggin]

I use a bookmark, I don't like to rinkle pages in my books. [shopgirl]
My favorite book is currently, The Fingersmith by Sarah Waters. I've read this amazing story of lies, desire, pain and secrets over, and over, and over. It is really hard for me to pick a favorite book, because I have so many. This captivating, beautifully crafted book has earned Sarah Waters the title of "the modern Charles Dickens" or Wilkie Collins. Its gripping, multilayered plot transports us feeling around the dark back alleys, gloomy mansions, pornographic libraries, lunatic asylums, and prisons and scaffolds of Victorian England. As in Dickens, the sights sounds of the Victorian underworld are brought to life in this vast, seductive novel. The story begins in 1862 in London's Lant Street, where a teenage Sue Trinder lives under the care and tutelage of Mrs. Sucksby and her family of farmed babies and thieves; but there is a great deal of warmth in this vibrant city womb. By contrast, many miles away another orphan, shy and lonely Maud Lilly, lives captive to her seedy uncle in a cavernous bleak house. Hers might be described as a privileged, wealthy, upbringing, but it is isolated, devoid of love, and exploitative-she is even forced to read pornographic books. As the twists, turns, and shocks of this disturbing tale unravel from the viewpoints of both Sue and Maud, we discovered that the lives of these two young women are intertwined and that they are enmeshed in a painful web of lies, deceit, and fraud outside their control. Murder is the only escape. Waters paints a moving picture of the evolving relationship between Sue and Maud as it passes from one of mistress-servant, to one of kindness and comfort, to one incorporating charged scenes of mutual desire and love. At one level then, this is a fine Gothic tale incorporating lesbian romance, at another it is a Dickensian conspiracy at its best. Water's ability to craft an original plot is stunning. P. S. I wrote this review for helium. [shopgirl]

I completely agree with you. I always loose my bookmarks so I try to memorize the page number. Usually I forget it too but finding the page takes only a few seconds. It is far more easier than taking care to the bookmark :) [zhorak]
hi thanks for responding... how many books do you read in a week? [shiloh_222]

i sometimes use a book marker or a ribbon i made for that purpose so i can quickly locate the page when i need it or i simply write the page out on a notepad,it helps not to make the book msqueeze [BYOLA2871]
thanks for the response. [shiloh_222]

I use bookmarks. Rather it be a scrap piece of paper or one I bought or made. I hate it when the pages are dog eared. If its a hard back cover and they have the slip cover, I sometimes use the inside flap of that to hold my spot. [carrie08]

wow memorize the page number eh? i always use a bookmark for my books. never dog ears coz i dont like to "ruin" the book hehe lol [kevsgirlalways]

I have to confess that I am one of the dreaded dog-earred readers. lol. I dont bother with book marks as I always lose them too. :-) [elemental69]

I usually just use a piece of scrap paper or a sheet out of a small notebook/notepad as a bookmark. It annoys me when the pages are dog-eared. [ashlee67]

If I am reading a magazine I dog-ear the pages, but i I am reading a book, I like to mark the page with a bookmark. Magazies I will leave at the coffee shop when I am doine reading them, but a book is mine to keep forever. [danishcanadian]

I do a bit of both myself. yet if the bookmark isn't closeby to me, I dog ear it or have a marker in it's place. While working in some offices cleaning them out, I came across some real fine leather bookmarks that I now use in my books and they are quite handy. Sadly, they were being trashed, and as some folks say some folks trash is someone else's treasure and I took it. [Savvynlady]

I don't do that to a book because it doesn't look good for a book to have those folds in the corner. I usually use playing cards or post it banners to mark pages in a book. [magojordan]

i love reading since i was a child.i don't want to waste too much bookmark so i decided to remember the page number. [xialinye]

I use bookmarks when reading books because not only can it be practical, but it also 'styles' the book, in a way, if you know what I mean... I don't lose my bookmarks but I end up having a crumpled bookmarks sometimes... I really love using bookmarks!!! [xXSnowFoxXx]
Ohh...yes! I love collecting bookmarks... even though I end up tearing some of them... [xXSnowFoxXx]

Well i usually dog ear it due to the fact that it is more practical than using a bookmark. Though if the book means a lot to you then you might as well use a bookmark.. [moneyisme]
thanks for the response. [shiloh_222]

I use a bookmark, I never lose them but occasionally they fall out which is annoying but nvm. I can never remember the page number, but when i can I try to finish a chapter so atleast then if I lose my page it's easy to find. [LadyAbboz]
hi thanks for the response. i will try to do that. [shiloh_222]

Hi Shiloh, I don't like to dog-ear any book while I stop reading though it's the easies way for me to remember the page I read last. It doesn't matter whose book is that or whether the book is old or new. I like using a used envelopes or any one side blanked adv leaflet as the bookmark which I could write something on it while reading. In this way I could save the trouble and time as well to recheck the same words again, if I have forgotten the meaning of them. You know sometimes I couldn't remember all the meaning of the words I have read from the dictionary Blush [lkbooi]
hi thanks for the response. that's a good idea. there are some words that I am still unfamiliar with the meaning. [shiloh_222]

I don't do dog-ear.I just place a book mark or remeber the page I left behind [asawanialvin0611]
thanks for response. that's good to know:-D [shiloh_222]

Before, I use bookmark but after I removed it on the page to continue reading, I lose it eventually (I just set it aside somewhere, lolz). So I always ask my friend to remember the page number and ask them again when I started continue reading. I don't want to fold the corner of the book, it may lose its value. I want all my books neat and fully covered. [yukiyoh1105]

yeah i do that too. i'm too neurotic to let myself fold a page in any of my books and my bookmarks are for collection only lol. [mymelodake]

I dog ear my page so I know exactly where to start reading again. but quite often lately I have to go back a page or two on the book I am reading as I seem to forget what is going on in it. I haven't been able to really get into this book so I am having a hard time finishing it. I am thinking that tonight I might put the book aside and start another one. I used to use a book mark but then they seem to fall out of the book and then I don't know where I was anyways so I now just dog ear it, as you call it. [chrislotz]
