Whn there is a book I like I may want to read it after a while to refresh my mind, but I don't like reading books I've already know how they end. So I may read them twice and that's it. However, I know there are people who have thair favourite books and say they can read them over and over again. Are you one of them? Why? Don't you get bored by a book you know already?

responses and comments:
Certain books are like old friends and I don't mind reading them over and over again. "To Kill a Mockingbird" is like that for me. I had three paperback copies that I read until they fell apart before I finally got a hard copy. The upside to reading a book that often and knowing it so well can come about in unusual ways: one year we were supposed to read it for a class project. I was so swamped with other stuff I didn't re-read it then: I just had my study partners tell me where they started and where they ended and I could join in as easily as if I'd just read the story happy [SamQuinn]
Wow, what have you done to make all those copies unuseable? o_O I know about this book but reality of US in 30's is something so far from my daily life I could bring myself to read it:P [Pompon]
You have a very interesting question. I'm a person who loves to read. Definitely, I have a list of my favorite books. I read them more than twice because it's fun and it feels good. Sometimes, I just want to read books that are predictable so I read books again and again. I have one book which is my most favorite I think I've read it more than 10 times. ^^ [divinegwapa]
Hmm... I think it's easier with a light-hearted books. They're fun and it's not a matter of how hey end but all the things in between. I've read some anthologies and those short stories I can read multiple times. But for longer books I'm hesistant. [Pompon]
I love to re-read books. a lot of people who won't re-read books, strangely, will buy DVDs of films they've seen before. when you re-read a book you notice more about it, and get to re-visit stories that you love, or involve you completely. it's more like going back somewhere you love going for holidays. [Galena]
As for movies, I think it's more about time. Re-watching a movie is a maximum 3 hour experience when re-reading a book take from a day to week or even more. [Pompon]
There are a couple books I re-read, The Perks of Being a Wallflower and Catcher in the Rye. I really identify with those characters, and I love re-reading the books and discovering new things I never noticed before. I also like going back and re-reading novels from when I was a young adult, like John Knowles' "A Separate Peace," because I like to see what I catch now having an English degree versus before, being a "lowly" sixth grader. [thinksf]
Oh, I did re-read some of my childhood book, too:P Like Moomin series and such. It was funny to see how books I spent week or more to read before became such quick reads;) [Pompon]
reading books is one of my favorite past time, before the mylot and clicking ptc's come along my way. I remember that i have lots of novel books which i read twice or more everytime i feel bored(but forget the titles). The other books is the "Harry Potter Series", I keep reading it again and again. I just love to it,.Acutally it's one of my favorites.Happy myloting! [rainmark]
I've read Harry Potter books and they were very good in my opinion^_^ [Pompon]
Actually all the books that I have I've read more than 5 times. No lie. For me reading a good book is like listening to music, and getting into my zone. You're able to escape and slip into a different lifestyle, even if it's only temporary. And to be honest I feel like reading all of those books yet again. [senorali]
Hmm.. I forgot about an important aspect when I started a discussion. I mean wouldn't you like to read a new book instead of the one you know already. There are so many new stories that look interesting. [Pompon]
I like to read very much and have read a lot of books. Some of them I've read 2 or 3 times. I love sci-fi but after reading a book I don't want to read it again. The only book that I like and can read again and again is 'Master and Margarit' by Bulgakov. I read it at school and it was the only book that I liked. It's very interesting with elements of sci-fi. [INGA832]
The Earths Children series by Jean Auel. Every time a new one comes out I start at the begining again to refresh the story for myself(since its usually quite a few years between books). So far I've read the first one(Clan of the Cave Bear) five times and am expecting to read it again when the next one comes. I'm still waiting for the lead character to reunite with her son so hopefully it doesn't take the author quite as long this time LOL. [madasp]
This is a nice question. I am a voracious reader and I love spending my spare time in reading books. There are a couple of my favourite books that I can read over and over again. However, the most recent book that I read twice was 'FountainHead' by 'Ayn Rand'. I believe that's the book that I would not mind reading 10 times again..... [ibiswas]
I am one of those people... but its only for a couple authors... i love series so if i like them enough that i have already read them a couple times i will buy them so whenever i need something to read i will pick it up... but i usually dont reread them close together.. I dont find it boring because you find new things out each time you read them [anyabecker]
the only book i have ever read several times, or i should say series of books, is the Sword of Truth series. They were excellently written, and the story line draws you in. I usually only re-read them if i am in the mood to read and nothing else is appealing and i can't find anything that takes my interest in the bookstore [rbailey83]
It could have been Sandra Brown, "Breathless Scandal".. This was the best book that I have ever read when I first began to read.. [cream97]
I have a ton of books that I have read more than twice. I love reading, and easily get through two books a week. This means that I can never possibly remember all the small nuances in a book, so it's never the same the second time. I wouldn't have the books if I didn't enjoy reading them and think I would want to read them again; I'd just borrow them from the library. [randomosity_prevails]
My wife reads her old books from time to time. Especially when she has no new books and she has nothing else to do. I, on the other hand, don't practice it and I'm not fond of reading books more than once. [xtedaxcvg]
I have readed all the Harry Potter's like 3-4 times each, i love them. I also readed other books that were very good but don't remember well. Most of the times i read a book and i like it, i can't stop till i finish, and when i finished it i read it again next hollyday, and next one, and next one till i memorize it and it makes not sence to keep reading it. Have a nice day. [Jul14nch0]
I have a favorite author. It is Anne Rice. She has several series of books. Most I have read more than once. Of those my favorite is Interview with A Vampire. It also made a good movie. [ersmommy1]
Does anykind of book count? Cause I have here a book on how to program c++ and I've read it like a dozen times over and over. And it doesn't get bored. It just that I need to refresh my knowledge on somethings so I go back and back on some topics on the book and don't care how many times I do that. Lol. [rekcart83]
I have several books I have read several times. I have not re read them for a few years now as I have lots of new books to read instead. There are not that many of them but there are some whole series of books like Anne Mccafrey's series about Pern. I also like reading the Disc world series more than once, I enjoy Terry Pratchett's humor. To me they are books where I loved the characters and I travel on their journey with them. I love to visit their world and experience their travels and lives with them. It does not matter that I know the story as I just enjoy experiencing their story again and again. Usually there is a fair amount of time between reads. I have not re-read a book for a while now as my partner keeps finding new books for us at the local library. Well some of the books are quite old but for us they are authors we have not read before. We like to read and go through a large number of books. I have 6 in my pile right now because my partner reads faster than I do and I have been mylotting a bit lately instead of reading. I really must catch up again or find something else to keep him busy. I have not managed to get him to join this site. [sharra1]
Usually i wont read a book completely. But i read "let us c" by yashwanth kanethkar two times. [harsha540]
The only books I will read again are Agatha Christie novels. I love mysteries but hers are just classics that I can read over and over again. Oh, I lied, when I was younger, I loved Nancy Drew. Whenever I get my hands on one, I will read it again, even though it's a bit juvenile. It's still fun reading. [nanajanet]
Really? Well now my interest is peaked and I am going to try and find them. Do you have any insight on how to locate the original? That would be great!!! THANKS!! [nanajanet]
yeah, I have.. I don't know I think I red it three or four times already. well its not really a novel but more of the real life story of the author. its entitled "ABNKKBSNPLAko" its a local book and its really popular in my country both with old and young and even with kids. This book is not merely a fiction but more of a mirror of how the lives and morals of a person mold with a touch of satirical story telling. So no matter how much I read it, my enjoyment the first time I read it will always be the same. [lossforredwords]
yes i have and that is about how to live life in a good way andi have read that one several times u knw, and i ask everybody to take tat and read that, because it is the book wich can change ne anyone, u knw its fabulous, and ya thankx for the discussionl., [shaiksultan]
I am one of them. ;) I like to read my favourite books over and over again, but in a long interval. Perhaps after a year or 2. The books that i love are historical romance, so why i like to repeat it is because i love being in the mood. Sometimes i forgot about the storyline and its ending, so that gives me a reason to re-read it. I also love the Harry Potter series. I will re-read the books once the new movie will be shown, just to known what are coming in the show. [harlina_ahmad]
For fictions, I will only read it twice when I forgot that i have read it already. With so many books I have read, I can not recall some of them. For non-fictions, I read them all over again if it really worth it. I like to read the Art of war over and over again because I learned something everytime I reread it. [everlasting]
I have read several books more than once. Even though I know how they will end, I get such a joy in reading it again. I think the main reason you reread a book is because of the way it makes you feel when you are reading it. I have read books that completely draw me in and make me feel like I am part of the story. Another reason for multiple reads is that sometimes a book touches a part of you that makes you want to relive the experience. I am not saying that very many do this however. For me, most of Stephen King's books make me want to read them again. Another great author is Dean Koontz. I love his Odd Thomas books. I can read them over and over. [aprilt33]
I have read several books more than twice. I read fantasy books more than once. Similarly, comic books. Whenever we read abook twice, we understand it more. Whichever points we do not understand while reading the book the first time can be easily noted while reading the second time. Actually, all books have to be read twice. [kangallo]
Yeah, I am one of the people who love to re-read the book, kinda not getting tired of reading my favorite books more than once. Sometimes I did it out of boredom or just wanted to re-read my favorites parts of the books. Usually, these books are romance novels and some fantasy novels like Harry Potter series - it was fun to re-read the funny moments there. happy [kylie_quistis]
Well, there's definitely one which I can tell that I read so many times. Anytime when I really want to feel refresh, I read Harry Potter's seventh book. I don't get time nowadays though due to hectic schedules but then, its the book that I would prefer to pick up. Rest - I would even pick up "You Can Win - Shiv Khera" which is a very very good source of inspiration for just ANYTHING... and its readable unlimited times! And its impossible to get bored of some book because, there's a kind of phsycho reason behind that. When you read some book, you must surely have imagined the scenes or whatever that book read about. Then, those scenes didn't wipe out totally. At times, they brew up and glided in short glimpses through your brain/mind... which made you think about the book again. Here comes the question, why doesn't every book hold similar importance. The reason is that either the material wasn't so good that you could have imagined better - or may be, when you read it, your imagination didn't show up much of good... But certain books are such, about which when you just imagine, they bring glee to your mind, you would then crave for such experiences. If you can have the similar experiences in your real life, may be, you won't read the book again... but since you are not able to have that experiences, your mind will want some kind of feeding to feel that glee - that is when you imagined about it. And so, when you read it again, those pictures refresh and again bring you a typical enthralling feeling that you crave for... and you are happier in that! Inspirational books are purely for those who want to improve every second. And when they read it over and over again, their brain is constantly feeded with positivity and they think they are improving everytime. This makes them read it over and over again. Okay, all was a bit philosophical, but does it make sense? [Amagnimo]
Hi Friend i like to read books many times. I will not get bored by book. Some lines or theme of the book make me to read. i love to read books [earn2view]
Hi, Pompon. I think I'm just like you with regards to reading books twice -- I don't. Even if it's a book I really liked at first, I just can't bring myself to read something already knowing what happens next. Which is why, even though I like reading, I'm not much of an avid book collector. The number of books I actually own could be counted using the fingers of both hands. *lol* The only book that I enjoy reading over and over again is The Little Prince, because every time I read that book, even if the events are essentially the same, the impact of certain parts on me always differ, depending most of the time, on my real life experiences. The first time I actually read the book was when I was... 16, I think. And then I read it again when I was 20 and it seemed as though I was reading the book for the first time, what with the new insights I gained. [nekonyanta]
I have read the books on my shelves several times. They are all related to Zen and spiritual development which is my work and my passion. I often get more insight after re-reading the books, but that is the nature of Zen :-) [derek_a]
I have never read the same book twice. I cannot get any please from reading a book when I already know how it will end. I will watch a movie of a book I have read even knowing the ending I enjoy seeing it through someone else's eyes. [whiteheather39]
When your read a book for a second time, of course you remember more or less how it ended. However the details of what happened in between, at least for me, often fade out with time. And because of that you tend to notice different things each time. One of the books I read more than once (well the whole series in fact) was "Dune" by Frank Herbert. It was quite interesting to compare my teenage memories of how I was moved by the writing, with a more mature look as an adult reader. It was similar with "Amber" by Zelazny. When you are young you focus on different aspects of the book than later. Also in general it is a bit like watching a movie more than once. Yes you know what will happen, but because of that you might notice a lot more subtleties and hints about the ending that will only make sense once you do know the ending. i guess not every one is a brilliant Sherlock Holmes to put all the pieces together the first time ;) [ivyblack]
no beacuse the first time is different from the second coz u already know whats going to happen [iopkliopkl]
Yes, I know the story but it's the details I forget. When I re-read a book, I often say, Oh I forgot about that. [thelastwolf113]
Hi Pompon! I am a voracious reader. In my list of books to read are countless no. of books so I don't get time to re-read any of previous book. May be sometime when I've nothing in hand I might consider re-reading and there are few books which I want to read them again. Happy reading! [comfort55]
Only one, Lord of the Rings, 4 times, usually I only have to read the first page and I remember the whole story, but this book I just love, it's like visiting with old friends. I guess it's really 3 books. [savypat]
I do have books I've read twice, but I don't think I've read a book more than that. Not that there aren't any books that worth being read more than twice, but I get new books to read so I don't have the time to read the old ones again and again... and again. happy [stvasile]
Yes. If I really like the story I read them more than twice. Sometimes even the movie adaptation I will also try to watch and later compare. I like reading very much & I also like collecting copies of the books I like to read. [luiscpatag]
I am the kind of person that will read a book more than twice. And in different moments in my life(they contain a moral, something I wish to reread again, a story that touch my heart) There are books that caught my attention and full of suspense that I will only read once because well the suspense is gone. A good example for me is Bag of bones by Stephen King. I love that book and read it once, the magic was gone after knowing the end. [ShellyB]
Yes, I read most od my books several times. Sometimes I get bored with the book and don't read it again for a while. But, I always go back to my favorites. [Bd200789]
Oh Yes, I have read this book called "Lie to Me" several times and for the life of me, I cannot remember who the author is! There are also several other books I have read more than once...they are called "Shiver", "Shudder" and "Shatter"...Once again, the author's name escapes me. He changed his pen name at one point, I can't remember that either. If you like Dramas with a touch of gore..these books are highly recommended! [mibngold]
"Lie to Me" was written by David Martin and the other three were written by Brian Harper...It was driving me crazy! [mibngold]
Hi Pompon, I don't have the habit to reread any story book or novel that I had read before unless I need any further reference from it. Anyway I read only the stuffs which I want on certain pages only if I look for any reference. Yeah, since I'm quite familiar with the content or story of the book I had read so it couldn't arouse any of my interest to read it the second time again yawn I would rather like and have more interest as well to read a new book during my spare time. Anyway I could learn more new things and stories from new books than that in the old one. happy posting and take care. [lkbooi]
I have a lot of books that i've read it twice or even more. Everytime i feel like reading and don't have a new one, or just because i want to read again that specific book. That hapens a lot with Nicholas Sparks books [catdog172000]
Elic, my old roomie & now fellow MyLoter, among other things, is like that. She rereads books a LOT, or used to when we were roomies, at least. I, OTOH, have to wait 'til I really can't recall how things went before I can reread one. Since I have a LOOOOONG memory, that takes years! LOL! But once I DO reread it, it usually isn't long before it all pops back into my head, & at that point, I quit. And if it really was SO forgettable that I can't remember the way it ended, then why should I waste my short life doing THAT again? Of course, there are SOME exceptions to this, particularly poetry, & really brilliant prose (such as Shakespeare). There, the thrill isn't how it ENDS, but the journey itself. THOSE books I read BEFORE I forget, just to make sure I remember! Maggiepie [Maggiepie]
hi pompon. i usually read book taking out from the library or the second hand book shop where i need to return the book. if i return the book which i have already read, they will be giving me the next book. i dint own many books with me. also i never read any book more than once itself. i love to read many books rather than reading the same one. happyhappy mylotting! [meenunapa]
I'm the person who will read the book again n again if i like it... hahaha... tat's y i still hv a lots of new books hvn read yet... hahaha... I think my record is reading the books for almost 10 times.... i won't feel bored on reading the same book coz i like it so much n everytime when i finish the book, i will hv difference thinking... so i like to read again n again for all my books... =) [candysky]
Yes. Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre and Baroness Orczy's The Scarlet Pimpernel. Fantastic classics. I never get bored reading these books :) [viduviduvidu]
If I was going to read a book for a second time then I'd have to make sure it was a few years since I'd read it the first time! I like to read a book, learn from it what I can and maybe get a few articles written out of it, then move on to the next book... I've nearly finished the one I'm reading now, "Miracles of the Gods" by Erich von Daniken, then I'm guna read Peter Kay's book - quite a difference! lol [louise99]
