I am painting my lounge at the moment so I have moved all my books off their shelves and put them upstairs in boxes. I am thinking if I need all the books that I have. I have books that I discovered at university, old travel guide books and loads of novels. I have quite a lot of non-fiction books like on clutter clearing. I borrow books from my local library every week.
Do you have lots of books?
What sort of books have you got?
Do you visit your local library to borrow books?
Have you got rid of any Surplus books, would you?

When I did a big purge and decluttering session I got rid of all my books, I have about six to ten books and that's it! Because after moving six times when you have to carry them around it gets too much and books are heavy, so I thought what's the point in keeping them, I never get round to reading them and if I did want to read I can easily borrow them from the library! I got rid of all my college books as well because they are very bulky, let someone else have the enjoyment out of them, because they take up valuable space. [wolfie34]
I have lots of books. Some very old ones that are actually collectors items but I don't care to sell them. When I am in the reading mood I go to the library and check out more. My collections includes writing, poetry, history, religion, novels, traveling, and wood working books. I have one very rare book on President Eisenhower that I bought at an auction in a box of odd stuff. This book has some black & white photos in it that I know someone would love to see. His wife is in one of them. [RhythmWalker1]
You know, considering what a reading junkie I am, I don't have nearly as many books as you'd expect. Although, I have sold many or traded many at used bookstores and on eBay. I mainly read romance, chick lit, women's fiction, and historicals and those are what I have the most of right now. I used to frequent the library for audio books because they are so expensive. Those and hardcovers. Paperbacks, I normally will just buy. [itsmefaith]
I have less of books,it do not means that i don't like reading, recently i brought a book about finance,GDP...and so on,i think that i shall know it little as a modern humam-being,although it is hard to understand,it is helpful, very helpful.I will buy some cheap book,if it is too expensive,i will read it in the bookstore,i can read without paying,it is free,hehe...lol [zhaosonghan]
Hello maximax8 I used to have LOTS of books. Bunches and bunches of books. I had pretty much every book that I had ever owned with an exception of 2,000 that I had once donated because I was moving and couldn't move every book I owned. Many of my books collected were because of my education -- not just text books, but books associated with school and with my job. But many of them were also just for enjoyment, curiosity, etc. [Transdisc]
Hello,I often don't buy books because I believe the says that is you won't read a book if you buy it.It is true, when I buy a book,I think I will read it when I have time, and it is mine, and I can read it at any time, then month past, but it is still there. However I prefe to reading books, then I go to library once a month,I borrowed five books at one time, then I read them,I think it is not mine, and I should read them as soon as I can. do you agree me? [kekexinfeng]
Yup,I have.they are about design, life, etc.I often buy new books ,I know we must keep learning!Never too old to learn! [sunny69316]
i dont love reading books but when some one read any specific book i love to read that [sonusd]
I got rid of all my college books, my kids college books as I like to keep minimum things in my house. Undoubtedly I an avid reader but can't see piles and piles of books. Now I have a small cupboard where I have a small collection of fiction and non-fiction books. Most of my books I read are from the library. [comfort55]
I have a collection of nearly 100 books, excluding local weekly magazines. If I include them it will be some thing around 1000 books. Sadly I don't have any library near my home. So have to buy all the books I want to read. [pkraj111]
I don't have very many books. I really don't have much time to read. I have borrowed books from my mom once in awhile she always has the latest book out so it is easy just to borrow from her if I wnat to read one. I don't borrow them from the library anymore as their fines are ridiculous if they are turned in late. [luvstochat]
My apartment is currently overrun with books, maximax! My daughter and I were just discussing this matter when she visited yesterday. She has promised to come over soon and help me finish boxing up all the ones I don't want to hold onto and get rid of them. The majority of my books are popular fiction novels, but I also have books on history, art, and how-to. I am hoping that I'll be able to find a good home for them because I value them very highly. [worldwise1]
I do have lots of books yes, I have a lot of fiction books as that is what I like. I was in a book club for a few years and so they all come from there. I have recently been trying to sort through them and I think most of them are going to go except for the authors that I have all the books from, such as Martine Cole, Phillipa Gregory, and a few others. I will keep them and then the rest I will sell and give away. I do go to the library as well, although I have had to stop that for the time being as I have just bought a ruck of books off ebay! [gemini_rose]
I have somewhere between 300-400 books. Right now, there are none that I would give up. I went through them a couple of years ago and pulled quite a few out that I didn't want anymore. I always donate them to the library. The local Friends of the Library have a sale each year which raises money for new books and programs at the library. I have all sorts of books: classics, children's books, sci-fi and horror; all sorts of non-fiction including biographies and educational books. I collect old children's books, especially fairy tales. Most of the books I have, I bought used. I don't see giving the full price for a book when you can get one used in great condition. I'm sort of snobbish in that I can't stand paperback books. lol I usually buy hardbacks unless a book is only available in paperback. I do use the library for my regular reading. I don't want to own all the books I read. I love going to the library, though, and always wonder why most people don't. It seems that too many peole would rather buy paperbacks and trash them rather than getting books free at the libary. Hmmm... [CherylsPearls]
Yes I had a lot of books. I mostly like mystery and romance novels. I had absolutely no place for these books so I sold them on ebay. [sweetstuff82]
We are living in the electric world, today the e-book is replace the old paper book, An e-book (for electronic book: also ebook) is the digital media equivalent of a conventional printed book. You can check the Sony's PRS-500. [zeevfld]
I do have a lot of books. I lost a lot of them when our province was flooded. Most of my books are non-fiction -- self-help mostly. I do visit our local library from time to time and I borrow books. I'm thinking of donating some of the books that I don't read anymore to the local library. I once donated some of my books to a school. [blindmoongoddess]
Do I have lots of books?? I don't need to go to the library, I'm living in one! w00t At least, that's what it feels like sometimes. I've been buying books for more than 40 years and I have rarely disposed of any. I Really should do though and sometime or other, I'll start dumping the ones that I really don't need any more into boxes and just giving them away. [jwfarrimond]
I hear you! I feel like I'm living in a library too. I hope to one day have an actual room that would be considered my office/library, then all the books would be in one place instead of spread out all over the house in various bookshelves. [patgalca]
I have quite some shelves to store my books. I have a room reserved for books only. I have fiction books and novels mostly. I have some history books as well. I buy mine mostly from Ebay at a reduced price. [ronaldinu]
i dont ever go to the library. I have mostly fictional novels, like harry potter. My favourite author is the girl who wrote PS. I love you. It was soooo good!! Was so much better than the movie in my opinion. I have a lot of books though. I'm a nerd. :) [katisaurus]
I used to have a lot of romance novels, but my husband got rid of them for me and also my drivers license. But I do have other books that I have accumulated since then and I am not going to get rid of them. They are my writing books, my classical novels, my Christian books, my cookbooks, my craft books. I do not borrow books from the library. It is too far away, but we do have a second hand store and sometimes I will get a couple from there. Oh and I do have some romance novels, but these are hard cover. It wold not look right for them to be thrown away, would it? [suspenseful]
I honestly have so many books that at times they can over run the house. I do go thru from time to time and have gotten rid of some of them. Then I go to a sale or something and bring more home, I love reading! wub I used to go the library alot but I have so many that I want to read now that Im trying to get thru the boxes of them. My husband built me this huge, wall to wall, foor to ceiling book case for some of my books and I have a huge cabinet with more, along with about 10 boxes. So yes I have many and probably to many for the average person. I really have a little of everything, you name it and I probably have a book that would fall under that catagory. When I do get rid of books, depending on the type, they can go to the school, library for their sale, friends, titletrader, and my kids. [Ithink]
hey, well, yeah i have loads of books though...books related back to my undergraduate degree, other stuff related to activities such as traveling, camping, etc...as i just love collecting and buying books, novels, magazines and other stuff... Smiley, [smiley83]
Yes, in my home, I have a lot of books. There are all types of genres, like mystery, romance, etc. I have had a surplus of books, but I have gotten rid of them by selling them. [music2myears]
I wish I had many books and I love the books from cs lewis and max lucado but books are expensive these days and its good that i can borrow from my friends. [Zelmarq]
My husband and I are both book junkies and we have quite a collection between the two of us. I have a lot of health and wellness books, art technique books, inspirational books, childrens books, youth novels and novels from various genres. I do tend to cycle my novels through to other people because I am not one to reread a novel. My husband has a lot of travel related books, sports writing, historical and mathemathic/science books. We enjoy attending book festivals so many in our collection are signed by the author who we heard discussing the book. We are proud of our growing library. [makingpots]
I love books. I also borrow books like every week at the library. Since I live in NYC I have several libraries. I reserve them online and sent it to the library near me. I feel like I never have to buy a book again. [lovelyladydancing]
I have a lot of book... some of them i bought when i was still studying... and some after that... but like my dvd's... they are kept in the closet because of lack of space in my apartment... and i still have a lot in my mother's attic... when i have a house of my own... i want a room that will be like a library... where my daughter and future kids will do their homework... or just read... [aseretdd]
I have about 100 books, and they all "Who Done IT', and know I have not read them all. I was thinking about putting on a on line auction site, But I have know way to take photos of them. Also, I want to read them before I would get ride of them. [snowqueen2008]
I do have quite a few books. I have several hundred of them. I have all of my books on one shelf and a bunch of other books in boxes in my closet. I simply do not have room for all the books that I own. I have started to sell my books on Amazon.com. I've gotten rid of a handful of books. The ones I have gotten rid of are books that I'm no longer interested in, books I've read once and just don't want to keep and books that I just could not bring myself to read. It's been nice getting rid of those books. It helps declutter and it helps put a few extra dollars in my pocket. [highflyingxangel]
Sometimes, I am kind of books hunter! This is the reason that I have lots of books that I don't even read them. Some books are pretty good though I haven't read them yet while some books don't deserve my attention though I bought them impulsively. If I borrow some books from the libray, I will empoly every means to finish them since I know that they don't belong to me and I have to return them in time. [hiddenwing]
I love books and see it as sacrilege when people throw them out. I have even been known to rescue them from a neighbour's (clean) bin. It is a pain when you move and have to cart around heavy boxes of books but, I can't part with mine. I keep a collection of novels by favourite authors, various books on herbs, herbal remedies and gardening in general, books that my kids loved when they were little, atlases, camping guides, books on native American ways of life, astrology, Wicca, books on farming and on keeping a variety of pets. There are also a few very old books I have rescued. Like animals, books seem to know that they are safe once they are in my hands and will never be abandoned.happy [Piscesmoon]
i am not in the habit of collecting books but i do love to read.i go to the library, borrow and return them within a week.so,you see ,i do not have a clutter of books but some odd ones are found here and there. [riyasam]
yes I do have lots of books. if its required to shift, that will be a problem I guess. there are so many. [subha12]
I have about 100 books on a couple of shelves in my bedroom that I have yet to read. I have probably another 100 on a shelf in the basement, most of which I brought from my parents' home after my father passed away. Others are books I have bought new or second hand. In the family room I have built-in bookshelves on either side of my fireplace. The top shelves are full of photo albums, the rest of the shelves there, and another book case in the living room are books that I have read... probably another 100. I did purge some of them recently when we were having a big garage sale. We were trying to focus on books so I knew I had to get rid of some of them. I had to pick and choose. I will not get rid of books by my favourite authors, or biographies. I do still borrow books from the library. I don't like there is enough time left in my lifetime to read the 200 books still unread when I continue to buy or borrow more. I am always jotting down titles in a little notebook... books I want to keep an eye out for. I won't know when I think I will read all these books. What sort of books have I got? Well, I have a few biographies or books written by Celebrities like Michael J. Fox, Bill Cosby, Patricia Heaton, Donny Osmond, Marie Osmond.... plus the mysteries of Ed McBain, Lawrence Sanders, Sue Grafton, Agatha Christie; women's fiction by Danielle Steel, Maeve Binchy, Belva Plain; and general fiction by Andrew M. Greeley and Catherine Cookson (actually historical fiction). I love my books; I love my authors. I just can't get enough of them. But I want to have a published book of my own some day so I need to take the time to focus on my writing and still have time to keep reading. It's not easy. [patgalca]
Oh, and I didn't even include the books my two daughters have! [patgalca]
i have lots of books ,mostly about the textbooks. when i'm highershool graduated,i sold all my textbooks from primary school to highschool. aftet that ,i'm feel sorry this behave. the rest of my book is about literature and science. i like to borrow books from school libray where have so many book in every area. by the way ,i like the libray very much in the school and also like to stay the whole to read book [chenyuanyuan567]
I used to have over two and a half thousand of them maximax! I had six very large bookshelves with around 8 shelves each and they were absolutel overflowing with every book title imagineable! Novels, Encyclopedia's, Science, Religion, Travel, Nature, Motivational, Spiritual, UFO's..... You name it! They are back in my country in storage somewhere but to be honest I am not even sure where anymore! lol. I have been gone too long I guess. I don't visit a library either, but I did go to a bookshop last night! I have always loved books and when I get back home eventually I will definitely start up another collection of my old ones have gone AWOL. happy [James72]
I have hundreds of books - I have a fair few travel books but, the majority for me are fiction and mainly romance types! I don't really borrow library books anymore as I prefer to buy them new and add to my collection although before I got my own place I used to just ge library books out all the time!! [frankiecesca]
actually I got some books, but I don't really read them, I read them when I want something,, for example dictionary, hehe,, Or story books, LOL.. and I don't go to library, cause books are no fun with me.. Hehe.. well, have a nice day then.. ^_^ [deathvans]
I have boxes and boxes and BOXES of books, mostly either out in the sheds or packed away because I don't have space to put them. How annoying is that. I don't even know where the books are if I want to re-read them. [ElicBxn]
Dear MAXIMAX I do not have alot of books, although my hubby thinks that I do. I only keep the ones I really like and would eventually reread if I had a chance. I keep all my Stephen King because he is my favorite author and a few dean Kootz. I do not buy books very often I much prefer to go to the library and borrow books. If I find one that I really want I will try to buy it and my hubby buys me new stephen kings whenever they come out. When I find I have a few too many books or just ones that I have purchased from yard sales and stuff I will try to get them to a used book store and trade them in for newer ones. Have fun painting [mag_keizer2007]
I do have lots of books. not as many as I once had. I have given some away. I don't think you can ever have too many books. I have some health books,novels,etc.. I have gave some to the local library, and some to friends. Some books,I just can't part with. [SuzyQ12]
We have a lot of books. All kinds of books; literature, popular fiction, poetry, history, theology, philosophy, science, biographies, art, finance,, economics, maps, essays. Even though I am surrounded by books, I still check books out of the library. Sometimes I want to 'test drive' a book before I buy it. Sometimes I want to read something but I don't want to own a copy. I get rid of excess books in a number of ways. I belong to Frugalreader.com, a book swapping site. I sell books on Amazon marketplace. I also donate books to the annual library sale. [Fafner]
personally i don't own a lot of books. i've got about a hundred books. i usually borrow my books from the library as i read very fast. but the main reason is the collection my father has. he has thousands of books already and the study is bursting at its seams. if i were to buy more books, we'd have to sleep together in one room just to accommodate all the books. lollol [applefreak]
I have a ton of books! I rarely go to the library, so we get most of our books from the store or from swaps with friends. [kellys3ps]
I do, certainly, have a share of books. They seem to collect and migrate to shelves where they sit and look at me asking if they will ever be read again. My daughter, in particular, has quite a few books. We love to read to her and she now has a small library. [DaddyOfTheRose]
Yes, I have lots of various kinds of books. I like reading. I especially like buying books about cooking, science fiction novels, traveling, language and so on. In these few years I also buy some children's books for my child. He needs to understand that reading is a good hobby. I love China [youless]
I like to have a lot of books.I should have gotten a lot of books. But this effort is successful thwarted by my dear friends who borrow my books.lol [balasri]
With the internet and all of it's information available at my fingertips, I do not hold onto many books any longer. I only have one shelf unit that is 1/3 filled with books. The rest I can find on line or at the library, therefore, less to dust!! LOL [nanajanet]
I never buy and keep fiction, only non fiction reference books and I still have way to many of them. I really need to get rid of a bunch. Maybe you'll be able to weed yours out before you get them back on the shelves. Good luck [savypat]
Yes, I have a lot of books, and I still use the local library. I could fairly easy get rid of most, or maybe all, of my books of fiction. The only books I'm buying at the present time are reference books to help with my bible studies. The bibles, bible reference books and quilt books are the ones I will not get rid of, ever. [bellis716]
I have a few books because I borrow many from the library. But I have many international (mostly from Japan, France and the UK) fashion magazines that I collect. It's a really bad habit because they are a bit expensive. [mishastar]
i don't have as many as i use to. have quite afew reference books on antiques because i use tobe in the buisness. i love fiction & when i get through w/them i pass them on to my friends. i do go to the library alot to.i love mysteries w/a good love story thrown in. [ANTIQUELADY]
I have a lots of books... all my cupboard also full of book... before, i doing a list for all my book... I think tat time my book amount are 600++ and I didn't update the list for almost a year... so i think now my book is going to 1000++ already....lol most of my books are Novel and comic... but i also have China History, fiction books and non-fiction books.... I didn't borrow books from library because i like to keep the books i like... i wish to read again when i free, so, i didn't borrow book.... blush that's why i have a lots of books....rasp [candysky]
I dont much that book ,but i got some books for recipe, decoration & novel butnot much maybe we can say about 50 books only i have. [Ohara_1983]
well yes but i have to give credit to my older sister for all the books that i have. know she is leaving in another country but she left me all of her books. i am the guardian :)). i must admit that i didint read many of those books but i have a lot [hessyen]
I have lots of books too. And I need them all. I love them. The way they look, smell, feel, and what is inside them. I always read. I have novels, crime stories, shortstories, poems, travel guides, lexicon, books about economy, social work, law, social politics, about women in 18century britain, etc. I threw away two books once. From university. I just hated them. It used the words they were trying to explain to explain themselves. Other than that I would never throw any books away. I'd rather rescue them. I have gotten far too many books from others that they do not want anymore - or that I have inherited. Some I have been part of donating to charities, treatment center, or flea markets that sell them to finance some sort of comunity work. I used to go to the library very often when growing up. I spent a lot of time there, and I always had library books at home. Now I have not been in years. I have books of my own that I have not read that I want to read first. Libraries are good places to discover new authors though. And they sometimes have shows of some sort that are worthwhile seeing. Actors reading poetry for instance. [teison2]
I have tons of books! I used to keep them all hoping to read them again some day but then I figured after a few years that I would have more room on my book shelves if I got rid of the ones I read and then I could have more books on my shelves that I hoped to read. I love reading! My daughter has a huge collection of books as well. We have two 4 shelf bookcases full of books and we are actually going to start undergoing a project on them later tonight! I have to clean out my hallway then move the bookcases full of books upstairs into the hallway. It will be more of a hassel for my daughter to have to go upstairs whenever she wants to read a book but it will give us more room in this small computer room and will keep all the books together and organized! I plan to paint the bookshelves to make vines up the sides or something. I have books on every topic you can think of! [shaggin]
I have quite a few books and I also borrow from the local library. I have cut my book subscription because it's costing me too much money. I can easily borrow them from the library or swap with my neighbor who buys tons of books. I usually read a lot of thriller book and my favorite author at the moment is Jodi Picoult. When i do my yearly clean out, I always donate them to the libary book sale or put them on our garage aparment bookshelf for others to read. [maddysmommy]
I used to collect books before.Since i started going to school,i kept all my books until i went to college. But because we keep moving from one place to another i feel discourage keeping them anymore and stopped reading since then. Now,i am starting to read novels again and keep them in the bookshelves. [msedge]
