Do You Have Many Books At Home Unread

Was checking out my book shelf earlier and as usual, I found a bunch of books forgotten and unread sitting there. I guess I really need to catch up with my readings again during my career break or at night time. *laughs* (that's like some major reading to do) What about you?

We also got plenty of books lying around the house unread. My daughter had read them all but I haven't. In fact they've been here for years and not properly kept that most of them are already in bad shape. I've been lazy these days when it comes to reading because I'd rather spend my time online that finish a book.lol Reading and finishing a book does not give me cents. There is no challenge there. [funny52f]
I also have bought lots of book the time I begain my work, but most of them were never read by half, some of them are even sitting them without a serious look. Now I seldom buy book as I can get all the knoweldge that can lear from book online. And the material online is even updated more frequently than the book. The only books I will buy is for my little baby as she is not able to be online now. LOL. [staywithpin]

i have no new books at home, i have no extra money to buy new books, so if i buy some books, then i must read them in short time. yesterday, i went to my friend's house. there are some new books on his book shelf. he likes reading, but he is too busy to read them. then i borrowed some from him. in my country, there is such a memo, people like to read borrowed books than their own. [wonderful1]

I LOVE to BUY books and so I do have quite a few books around the house that are not read YET. I will get around to reading them eventually and I am sure they are going to be great. [zeloguy]
I actually worked for a company for a while that built 'libraries' into high-end homes. [zeloguy]

Actually i have a number of books i would like to read. Currently I am finishing one, and i've already decided which one i'm gonna read, "the child with a striped pyjamas" (don't know if the translation is totally precise). After those, i might go for a classic, steinbeck, capoe or something like that, and then after that, a best seller hehe. [LightninStrike]
Good for you. I don't know when I would be in the reading mode though. [wondericequeen]

Nope. I don't have many books at home unread since all the books that I have are used in my classes. Maybe the only book which is the very first novel that I bought " The Iliad by Homer " was the only book that I have never read. In fact, I was just forced to buy the book to present it to my English teacher so that I can start making my thesis paper about the book. :) [meemingNEW]

I was just thinking earlier today that I need books. Then I realized that I actually have 3 I have not yet read but I've tried and haven't been able to get into them. I guess I should finish them up before I get new ones! [raychill]
Oh yes, I always think that I need books and then I found out I have got some unread ones at home. [wondericequeen]

Oh Yes! I have many books that I haven't read yet and a list of others that I haven't bought or read yet. I have a bit of a problem with buying books. I love used book stores and library sales and can never leave one without an armful. So as a result I have about 20 currently that I haven't read. I can't seem to match my reading with my buying. Then I'll hear an author interviewed and decide that I must read that book too, that usually ends up on my list of books to buy. I think I might have OCD when it comes to books. [HollyK]
*laughs* Yes, for me, I can't leave a book store if it's on sale! [wondericequeen]

OMG do I ever have books!!! I have several book shelves in my home. Not much rhyme or reason to my selections except my cookbooks. I like a wide variety of authors and topics. Once read, I pass them on to DIL, friends or take them to the Goodwill. Sometimes I take a batch to the used book store. Since I've been on mylots, I don't have as much time available to read as much as I did before, but I still do read a little before going to sleep. Someday, maybe after I retire, I'll have time to go back to reading like I did before. [crazy_ol_lady]

oh I wish I had unread books at home. I have so many books but i have read them all (many of them 2-3 times each) when I cand go to the library I choose to read one of my books at home. I often buy books from the library for like 10c each and I have many good books (many are best sellers) that I get from there. [violeta_va]

I have tons of books right now that I haven't read yet. The problem is that buying books is like an addictino. I hear or read about a new one that sounds great ans so I get it. I usually read the new one and the old ones get put on the back burner. Some have been sitting there for a long time. I'll probably get around to them some day, as long as I can take a break from buying anything new for a little wihile. [maybebaby]
Yes I agree that buying books is really like an addiction! Sometimes, I can't stop myself! [wondericequeen]

i dont really have books at home to read, but i have tens of magazines and newspapers scattered all over my room, most times i dont have time to read books with lots of pages and when i have time to read them,it may take me weeks to finish them [reddevil1]

Yeah I have books that I haven't even read yet. I don't read much at all even though I like to read. I hope I will get to those books I haven't read yet, I don't think I am but them again it might happen. Some time ago I threw some old books I didn't think I need anymore. [sweetangel88]

I have quite a few, some I may never get to unfortunately. I'm behind on my reading right now since I spent several months reading library books instead. Our library has some books that are for sale and others that are free to take, read, pass on or return whenever you like, I found some pretty good books among the free ones. And this way I read things I otherwise would probably miss. When I do buy books, I usually do so from amazon.com, either really inexpensive used books, or discounts that also have free shipping. I wish shipping costs were less, I'd buy more. We do have some used bookstores in town, but so far I haven't found as many I wanted to read there as I have at thrift stores and the library. I wish there was a resource in every town that collected "stripped" books (ones that bookstores couldn't sell, that have the cover removed and are thrown away.) I think it would be a great resource for people to find things to read that they otherwise couldn't afford. I have a particular author, Nina Hoffman, whose works I want to collect, unfortunately much of it is out of print and when I do see copies of some of her collected stories up for sale they are often fifty to a hundred dollars which is far outside my means. I'm not sure why they sell so high, unless it's just that there are very few copies and a huge number of people that want them. Sorry for the long ramble, but I really love books and tend to go on and on about them. [Seaclans]
My sympathy for the lack of a good library. So much seems to depend on things like the tastes of who does the purchasing, and how active the local "Friends of the Library" equivalent is. This conversation did have a nice effect on me, I've finished the book I was reading, and started another one I bought months back. Thanks for reminding me how much I like to read! And happy reading to you as well. [Seaclans]

Oh yeah it happen to me pertty often too.I buy at once many books like 8 or so and just put them to a shelf.Than I buy another and another and after few month I realize I have there many books I didn't even open. [laurika]

No, I dont..I do not read very often, so I try not to have book laying around..The last book I read took 4 years to read...LOL...My daughter has thousands of books though.. [Calais]

No stone left unturned. I don't have any book unread at home. Normally I'll read them until finish then only I'll go and do something else. And they say it's a bit habit because I will not move anywhere when I'm reading! [ashleyna]

No there is any book in my house I hven't read. I am always reading and when I finished to read those books that are mine I started to read from my sister and my parents... Right now there is only one book I didn't whole read but I'm finishing it ^^ [doijunior]

I have unfinished books that I started to read and for some reason or the other did not complete. I find this happens alot to me especially now that I have to be preparing for exams. [Sharon38]

Yes, both my husband and I are avid book collectors and we have way more books than it would be possible to read in a lifetime. Most of them, in fact, are stored in a warehouse. Once thieves broke into the warehouse and were they every disappointed. All they found was books, and they were heavy books, too, the over sized hard-covered kind with pictures of classic works of art and that sort of thing. These poor thieves left with nothing because it would have been a great deal of WORK to carry away our prized possession. What is one person's treasure is obviously worth very little to some other people. [drannhh]

Yes I do have a few that I need to read. I seem to have become interested in reading other books that I forgot what I have. So I plan to get caught up on them soon. I am writing book reviews now for a women's magazine where I will be working in my downtime so this will help with that too! [nangel78]

It is hard to catch up on readings, specially when we buy books to often and read only once in a while, I usually buy books on sale but then I only have few hours in a week to read them..so yes, I have books still unread sitting at the bookshelf..:) [cefaz_21]

Yes, I have lots of books that I don't finish. I just too busy to read. :) [m_5ugar]

Reading these responses, I am actually surprised that so many people have responded that they've read everything in their house. As a booklover, I have tons of books I've yet to read, but that doesn't in any way prevent me from buying more. Several months ago, I joined a book exchange to try and save some money on books. You send people books you've already read in exchange for something you want to read, all at the cost of media mail. It's called PaperbackSwap.com, but there are lots of other equally good exchanges online. So now I have a new pile of books (exchanged for my old ones), and I have those unread books. To top that off, just recently I started reviewing books for a website, so now I have new books coming in too! I am just trying to get on top of the most recent books that I have received. You would think with the PaperbackSwap books, my old books I haven't read, and the new books for review that I wouldn't need to go to the bookstore, but I am a perennial at my local Borders. When they have a coupon with money off, I just find it hard to resist. And, of course, I keep a list of books I want to read, but don't have yet. Too many books, too little time. It certainly applies to me! [AnythngArt]
Thanks for the best response. I like to think of all those stacked up books as the reflection of my curiosity. There are so many things to learn about and enjoy in the world. If only I could do away with sleeping.... [AnythngArt]

well i have lots of books i dont read. well some medical from my cousins. now they are in medical fields they dont read anymore. they used it when they were still studying on medical schools. well i have books from sister also. a lot of it. not college books only. a lot of inspirational books. christian books. cookbooks, and other sort of books that i dont read. i have no time to read them. especially medicine books. well there is a lot of novel and fiction books here. i dont really read it though. i read only magazines. only those interesting to me. though i skimmed through those pages on some books, but thats it i dont read it. [bluewaves]

We're talking about a whole library. In my home there's plenty of books, some of them I've managed to read but the major number is still unread. I have the time but I didn't use it for reading. I would but I found other things to do. If I take the time to read all of the books I have probably it will take me an year!Seriously, they are too many and all seem extremely interesting and full of information.Glad you've asked:) [tzvetelina]

Hello wondericequeen, I don't have any right now. Since I got to know My Lot, I stopped buying books and magazines as I know very well that I won't have much time for everything. Normally I will buy at least 2 new books every month and can finish reading them in a week! I subscribed to five local magazines every month but stopped the subscription last December as I have no time reading them after giving birth. When I moved out from my previous house, I left all my magazines (read and unread) there and felt guilty afterward... Surprisingly, I just bought two new magazines yesterday and was flipping through them yesterday night. Have the same thinking like you. Maybe I should start reading again and try to reduce spending time here *smiles* [gr8life]
Right, mylotting is really taking up a lot of my time (and life) *smiles*. I will need to squeeze some time to do my reading, otherwise, it would be a diaster! Wow, I really need to schedule the time for everything. [wondericequeen]

We have a lot of books that I haven't read, because my husband and I like different books. I've read all of my books, though, and a good portion of his. [cutepenguin]

not really, usually when i purchase a book, i try to finish it first, and then only go for the next, although at present there is one book in my shelf that i havent finished reading yet, [gharinder]

I probably have about 20 around the house I haven't read. Half a dozen that are in my "to be read" pile. Another dozen are books that I got in bookboxes that I sent out that I don't have any interest in reading and plan to release them into the wild. The rest are books that my ex bought that I have mild interest in reading and will get to when my TBR pile is empty. [wiccania]

Hi there. I do have alot of books at home and these books are all read... Some of them I have read 2-3 times, because I have enjoyed them so much and have often thought why they didnt have a sequel or at least another book out... [Nardz13]

Yes, I really have lots of unread books. Some time ago I found a very good website to sell books online. It gives me a very good discount. So I have bought lots of books from it. Unfortunately I don't have more time to finish them. [youless]
*laughs* I am struggling if I should buy more books, there are two I want to have, but now I am digging out my unread books too, I feel kind of embarrassed how many books I have are left unread! [wondericequeen]

well yes, there is so many books. i have no plan to read those books. well i dont like reading books [bluewaves]

my sis is a reading freak heheheheh she buy books and read them well i only watch them hanging in my book shelf :) [Arshian]
