Do You Like A Good Detective Story

Before I was introduced to the internet I used to love reading, I took after my nan, I always had a book in my hand, either that or I was writing a lot, then that sort of got shelved as I spent most of my time on the internet I love reading and I am slowly getting back into reading again, by shutting my computer off at midnight instead of staying up till 2am each morning and going out for long walks I take my book with me to read. My favourite genre of books is detective novels! I love them! In particular John Rankin, who's stories revolve around Detective Rebus, you may have heard of him? Crimes are based in Edinburgh, Scotland and he ex army/SAS and you learn more about him as you read each story. I get so involved with the books that I just can't put them down, it's something about detective stories that keep me reading on and on, and fascinate and interest me. So do you like a good detective story, or do you prefer to read another genre?

I am on the computer alot however I make time to read. I love reading and will try almost anything once. I like detective novels and mysteries, as well as true stories too. I also like historical romance. [enchantedleppard]

I love to read in general, and pretty much can read any genre if it captures my attention. Since your question was do I like reading detective stories. The answer would be yes. I have to come to really enjoy reading Ann Rule. [Chey1970]

I love reading detective novels, like Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys when i was in high school. At present im into John Grisham which im not sure if you can categorized his works in detective genre. I love Sidney Sheldon too, i know his works arent detective genre yet i found his books very interesting. His novels stimulate my brain to search, think and participate while i go on with my reading. The ending never fails to amaze me. Maybe in the future i will search John Rankin books. [jhoannejoj]
Apologies it should be Ian Rankin! Sorry. I have read one of Sidney Sheldon's books but that was a long time ago now, [wolfie34]

Although I love my time on the computer whether chatting to friends or finding out information, I really love reading. I love Ian Rankin books...Rebus is such a great character, some of the things written i can hear my dad saying!! James Patterson is another author whose books I enjoy reading. My all time favourite has to be Agatha Christie!!! I just love detective novels. I like autobiographies too....having read Gordon Ramsay- Humble Pie, Sharon Osbourne-Extreme, Sharon Osbourne-Survivor, Patsy Palmer- All of Me, Kerry Katona-Too Much Too Young, Daniella Westbrooke-The Other Side of Nowhere to name a few. I also encourage my kids to reach for a book instead of the tv remote..although it does not always work. [shellybean79]
Autobiographies are good reads too, thank you and welcome to Mylot! [wolfie34]

I heard about Ian Rankin, I wonder if that is the same person, but I have never read any novel of his. I guess it's my omission. I love to read, and I always have some book that I read. I love Russian, French classics, Paolo Coelho, G.G. Marques and some others. [Natrak]
Oh for an edit button! Dozy me it was Ian Rankin not John, d'oh! What am I like eh! Thanks for your response. [wolfie34]

Absolutely, check out James Patterson, he is awesome writer. [Debs_place]
Thanks for the recommendation ;0) [wolfie34]

I do! I think I like then because they make me think. I get wrapped up in a book and can't put it down. I used to read 2 oor 3 books a week but then kids and "life" happened and now I have a hard time getting through a book in a week....well, then there is mylot...heehee. I spend more time online now then I have in past years. For the most part to read the news and other current events, then I was introduced to mylot and well....it's pretty much here getting to know everyone better. ;-) [ljegbers]

I used to love reading too pal , There is so much going on in my life now though and my head won't let me get it round a book , I read a sentence then I am off worrying about something , I am much better here on the PC it takes me away from it all xx [weemam]
and I for you pal xxxx [weemam]

I read my books on my laptop so I don´t shut it down. I do stick to a certain time to stop surfing and open one of my ebooks. I also like detective, mystery and thriller. I like the Agatha Christie and Columbo style. Old fashioned detective work. No sophisticated methods like in CSI. I think the Christies have great plots and really puts you back 50 years in time. After a hard days work, lying in bed and ´traveling´ to the 40´s and 50´s realy makes forget for the time being the rush of the 21st century. Only problem with a good detective story is that, like when I was younger with paper books, before I go to sleep I just want to ´turn´ one more page. And before I know it it´s another one of those nights with not enough sleep. [RobertKing]
Not keen on Agatha Christie to be honest, but thanks for your input and a very warm welcome to Mylot to you! [wolfie34]

See it is in the genes sweety I love to read too and have been getting back into it lately! I do love Detective novels and Ian Rankin and John Rebus are good but I will read almost anything! It takes a lot for me to give up on a book! It is great cos the kids love to read too and are very advanced - specially Niamh! xxx [mummymo]
I like a good horror as well, a book I can really get my teeth stuck into, one that you can't put down. Niamh is very talented indeed takes after her lovely mum xxx [wolfie34]

You sound like me. Before I got my computer my nose was always in a book. Now that I am online that is where my nose is. I have recently read a few books, I miss reading a good story. I am still always reading online, but its different. I love all kinds of books. Dean Koontz books are good, Mary Higgins Clark, J.D. Robb, Nicholas Sparks, Danielle Steele, the list goes on and on. Happy reading........... [Polly1]

I don't read many dectective stories, accept for "Monk". I perfer to read sci fi, especially if it's politically motivated. [cripfemme]

I also love reading Wolfie. I used to get all my work done then settle down with a good book. I love a good murder mystery. A book has to keep me engrossed or it is no good. The only thing is, I now take twice as long to read a book, as I keep falling asleep. [Goodie123]

Aw yes I do love a good mystery I like to solve it as I go along But I have to keep solving it again and again because I get it wrong..lol oxxoxoxoxoxo [raydene]

I like detective books some. But the books I love to read to science fiction. I really like the work done by David Weber and his Honor Harrington series. [Kyle91]

Hey Wolfie, I have to say right now that I am a person that likes a good true crime story, I also like a good legal thriller, and in some ways that could be considered I like some other novels, but I am very picky in what I read, and I have bought many many books and thrown them away. Mooch [oneandonemakesix]

I can't remember the author, but she writes private investigator type novels. Every book she writes starts with a letter of the alphabet.. like M is for Murder. I have read a few of them and they were really good. Mostly I stick with Sydney Sheldon and Jude Deveraux, and a few others. I also have a penchant for Stephen King. [OreoCookie3]

Before I was introduced to the internet I also used to LOVE reading.Internet is something that easy get addiction.I didn't read book for a long time .I even forget the smell of books. However I read some novels in this winter vacation. And the books still smell good . Reading Detective story is a good way to spend your brain .But I also like to read some emotion story or ethical story, for it bring a lot of thourghts to me such Jack Lundon's novel. [god314159]

I like detective or mistery stories too. I find it very interesting. It just keeps me going to read the entire book. That's what i love about it because there is that factor that push you to move on to the next chapter - to know what will happen next. I just love it. [ZyraIdeas]

i like detective storie sthe most. my favourites are sharlock Holmes and Agatha Cristie's. i have read all of them. I really like them. now also i read when i get little time. [subha12]

You sound like me. I love reading and usually I read about an hour before going to sleep, after I get in bed. I love mystery stories. The only books I don't like are stuff like Harry Potter. I could never get into those kind of books. [cortney09]

So we're on the same boat eh. I do love a good detective story. The more suspense and action, the better. If I really like the book, I will be so absorbed reading that I tend to forget about the time. I don't have any particular favorite. Just read whatever is available. I usually bought 2nd hand book which is really cheap and affordable. =) [charms88]

well m wrkin on lapy all day ....so can't get time to read... [Blogmaster]

i love really old detective stories like perry mason and dragnet...i find the ones today have way too much blood and gore in them! (there is a local radio station that plays old radio shows late at night, if i dont have to get up or cant sleep for some reason, i love to listen to them - sometimes i even get to hear dragnet!) [cher913]

Some of my favourite TV shows are the detective ones but you know what, it's not a genre that I tend to go for. I will read almost anything, it's hard to think of an actual genre. I did however start reading the Rebus novels but it was after the TV show. I really like them and really don't know why I never bothered to read them or other detective novels. [Foxfire1875]

never have time or patience to read a story, but i will surely enjoy watching detective movies. [alexcellzx]

Hello wolfie34 :) I love reading and watching detective stories. For books, I love Agatha Christie. I have almost all her books. I don't like other genre such as romance or horror. The reason why I love detective stories is because I can play the detective myself while I read on. It makes me happy when I guessed right about the ending of the story. But it makes me more happy when I didn't guessed right. That would make me think that the book is better, because I would think that the author's story is really original and not just twisted from another story. Romance books are like that. You almost always know the ending, unlike detective stories. :) [christineli]

It's not for me, Wolfie. The blood of Sherlock Homes just does not flow in me. I have read several books of this genre in the past but it just doesn't stick. I don't hate it but I don't like it either. I still prefer fantasy books. [lordwarwizard]

Ya detective novels are interesting to read but i like dont like to read such stories anymore.. [prasanth_s]

I love a good mystery book and that includes detective books. Lately those are the only kind of books I am reading. I just finished one this morning laying in bed. I couldn't finish it last night because I was so tired, so when I woke up this morning I stayed in bed and finished reading it. I have about 10 more of them that I haven't read yet, that I bought at a second hand book store for $2.00 each. I will not buy or pay full price for a book, so I go to second hand book stores and garage sales to buy mine. I then pass them on to my hubby and when he is finished reading it, we trade them in at the second hand book store. We get one book for three of ours. [chrislotz]

My absolute favorite writer is Peter Robinson. He writes crime books. But I think Agatha Christie´s books have quite high quality if you think of,that theye where written for so long time ago. I also like Stephen King´s books [Zoegas]
