Do You Plan To Read More This Year

I've been making goals at the start of each new year for as long as I can remember. On this list, "reading more" always seems to land in the top ten. And, like every other year, this year is no exception. I've started this year differently, though . . . I'm actually following through! I love to read, but I find that if it doesn't have anything to do with work, that I don't deserve to spend the time . . . I know, it's a strange situation. Do you plan to read more this year? How often do you make this goal, but have a difficult time following through? If you don't face this issue, what do you recommend for those who are?

I have to read more, or exactly more learning this year. Now my job is not concerned with my major, so I have to learn everything from zero, last year it is a real hard year for me. I like reading in my life, in my spare time, I just reading no matter the real books or in the internet, both are ok. Reading more, learning more. *^_^* [sophia1984]

I hope I can read more this year, particularly reading my Bible. It's a wonderful thing to know that I have the freedom to read anything I so desire. And this year, I do make a goal to finish reading my Bible from Genesis to Revelation. It's difficult I know but with God's help, I can do it.happy [learn2earn]
Actually I am also seeking to read my Bible as well and of course I will accomplish it with God's help.I am reading Genesis to Revelation as well by reading an OT passage in the morning and a NT passage in the evening eg: Gen chap1&2 in the morning and Matt chap1&2 in the evening...not easy but with God's help.I really look foward to plenty reading this year! One of my year 2009 resolutions is actually to read more non-fiction books. I feel that I need to do that and I also need to learn how to read faster. I'm not into fictions since I feel I need all the knowledge and lessons I can obtain from non-fictions, as much as possible, in order to improve myself. It's a kind of self-improvement and my supervisors actually compliment me for that. [daydreamer20]

I think that reading should b #1 on your list of priorities. I say start off with reading about something that you enjoy doing eg:- food, clothing, cars, etc. There are lots of attractive magazines, books, pamplets, the internet.Comics(wether in the newspapers or comic books)are a nice and exciting way to begin reading. Don't despair if you start off slow...take it 1 step at a time. [all4jeSus2009]

no, i don't like reading books. I like surfing the net and read online tutorilas and all. I don't like reading stories, literature and all [mtsandeep]

i dont have to put reding on a list i always have abook in my hands i love to read a schoolteacher of my taught me how to read in the 3 grade and i have been hooked eversince i read alot of different stuff not just one kind if a book catches my eye i will read it i worked in my school library and when i graduated high school i worked in a public library i would love to go to college to becme a librarian i think it would be so cool. [frygirl]

I have two favorite hobbies besides my computer they are reading and knitting. Right now I am knitting one of my grandaughters a coat if I take a break from that I read. I have 4 grandaughters and they all want one of the coats - I am on my second one so it will be a while before I can get back to my full time reading hobby. As for reading I like all kinds of books - one of my favorite authors is Sue Grafton. [us2owls]

Of course. I always like to read books. And i feel sad because the younger generation is neglecting the importance of the read. [shahanas]
shahanas - You would love my great grandaughter she will be 10 next week and loves to read - she has read most of the classics including Wuthering Heights, Pride & Predjuduce and others. She has read every Harry Potter book and she doesn't just read she absorbs what she reads and if you question her on any of the books she has read she will answer you and she remembers them too. She is great. This might be due to the fact that from being very small her Mother and others in the family would sit and read to her. [us2owls]

I'm a bookaholic. I'll go throught stints that I read a new book everday or sometimes 2 a day. I have five kids and it's not an easy task but you have to set some alone time for your self to be able to relax reading to me is relaxing and I love it so I have no goal to increase it because I read alot as is and I don't have a difficult time with it currently .. But for those who do if you're a female when you go to take a shower decide to take a bath instead and while your soaking set your cell phone to go off in 15 minutes to 30 minutes depending on how long you want to soak and read .. When the alarm goes off wash up and get out and there you spent time reading and giving those nice muscles a good warm to hot soak. [bellaofchaos]

I absolutely love to read, finding time has become harder and harder, I try to give myself one hour a night after I get the kids to sleep. I figure if I can get a book done in a wk right now I am doing well...LOL I need to learn to read faster but that is my only escape is into a book, my only vacation time right now so I sit back and enjoy when I can....LOL [bookreadermom08]

I am always reading here on the internet, I read my Bible, I read the news on the internet, and I read all of the discussions from Mylotters, the post them everyday and this talkes up a lot of my reading time, and I do mean I read alot of discussions here, I read so much my eyes get tired, and I have to take a break from time to time so i can go back reading again later.happy [notlistening2]
i have noticed there are so many nagetive comment.yet i think things are not so bad. [mocaley]

I love reading books, but books which are not related to work. Reading makes me relax and imagine that I am in the story which I am reading. My best books are love stories and adveture ones, well I hate others. However it is good to read some current affairs or finanical things for knowledge. But to relax I prefer reading a story, well this year I will to try to read since it has been a long time since I last read a book, because I don't have that much to read. [GAUCI123]

Absolutely, I have to catch up to more readings. I will surely find time. Best of luck. [WATARIKENJI]

I hope to. I have a list of books I would like to get. So far I have read one. I am also reading a five novel book of Bram Stoker including Dracula and four others. These are complete just as he wrote them in the late 1800's and a little hard to read because of the style and the way people talked during those times. I've finished Dracula and moved on to a little light reading of "Marley and Me". [jillmalitz]

Yes, I do plan to read more this year. Mainly because I love to read, and I feel that I did read enough last year. [dodo19]

I don't really have that goal, although I love to read. Is there a particular reason you feel like you should read more? Is it for learning purposes or for relaxation? Trying to get away from the net or TV? I watch a lot of TV and used to read more, but I find that I can pick up my book during commercials, lol. Commercial breaks are getting longer and longer! [CremeAndSugar]

I love to read and always make that as a goal simply because I want to insure that I read a lot. I made it my goal again this year. I have already read four good size books and it is not very far into the month of January. I don't really know what to recommend for those who have made this their goal. I automatically instead of turning on the television I pick up a book and sit down and start reading with my glass of whatever I am drinking sitting next to me. [sunshinelady]

I like reading, but not a super avid one. This year though, just like from last year's, I intend to read more. I am pursuing my passion for writing. With that, I'd learn more writing styles from reading different things. Before, I'd slack off from my reading. But now, I intend to make it as one of my regular habits, whether online or real books. I'll pick up something to read for a day, even just a few pages. [MariaD]

I guess I read a lot anyway! I just love to read and I love to escape into another world if this makes any sense! I have several books stacked beside me and I read all of them at the same time, I don't wait until I finish before moving on to another book, this would take forever otherwise! I too like to make goals and I constantly refer to them at the end of each month to make sure that I am on track! I'm looking forward to doing a lot of reading this year! Happy My Lotting. Andrew [AndrewFreyne]

I love to read and I read all the time! If I had to make a resolution this year regarding reading, it would almost need to be to read less. I am always reading. [cassleiner]

I want to read more books in the new year. Reading more books can make a person more cultured. Now i am a students, i have time and some advantages in school. so this winner vocation, i will borrow some books from library. [yichuhehua]

Yes,but I have been slacking in the last week or so. So now I have to get my nose back in the books....after I am done reading the Sparks series I have been told by my co-workers I need to read the Meyers Twilight series. So I will be reading in 2009....probably all year. [taface412]

I didn't make it a goal for me this year but I have read more this year then last year. I wanted to and with my job I have been able to. I'm a call agent and in between calls I will read. I have been reading more in the bath tub as well. Thats like me quiet time without the kids LOL. [shymurl]

There are lots of attractive magazines, books, pamplets, the internet.Comics(wether in the newspapers or comic books)are a nice and exciting way to begin reading. [sins1984]

I don't know if I could actually read more than I do now, but I am certainly going to try. However, I'm going to cut down on the number of books I purchase and start using the library. I don't have anyplace to put another book case, and they are piling up and falling off of the dining room table. [rabinos]

I would so love to read more this year also. It is so hard to set these goals. I think you have to decide - what am I going to read and when am I going to do it and set aside that time. I have to do that to achieve my goals - how about you? [annkenline]

I do not have this problem, I read 1-2 books per day about 5 days a week. Thank goodness for libraries! I think it is important to give yourself time for you and what you want to do. And reading, even for pleasure, is good for your brain! [laglen]

I myself never make New Years Resolutions. I used to, but they quickly became old, and I rarely accomplished them. Who the heck invened this new year resolution thing? I wonder if they ever accomplished and of them. I do like to read, and generally read every day for my job. Not the kind of reading one would extract any pleasure from, but as a learning tool. Between work, and other responsibilities, I don't have the energy to do much else, let along read. My eyes are too tired anyways, and when I do attempt, I usually fall asleep within 15 minutes. So, for most of us, reading can be a natural sleeping pill. I wonder if insomniacs ever gave this a try. [LuckyLadyD]

Yes i plan to read more books this year. It's because i find it very helpful to one's personal growth. I'm into none-fiction, business and investment books. Last year i was able to read only 9 books and i still have some more books that i've bought last year that i wasn't able to read yet. It's not difficult to follow through reading if you make it as a habit. I did it by just reading a few pages, say 10 pages per day or, at least 30 minutes per day. if you do it, you will feel like something is missing if you don't read a book in a day or two. [LionHeart319]

I do. I'm a bookworm myself but last year, for some reason I only managed to read 4 books. (I used to read a book/month or more) I plan on buying more books and read them all this year. But I cant decide on what book to read. Do you have any suggestions? [yellowhipon]

I remember responding to a similar question - on myLot only I mean - about this year's reading. In 2008 I started reading up to 10 books completing only some 5, if I am not wrong. This year I want to read 10 books completely, of which then last year's half done ones will sure form a part. Last year's strategy did work only that it needs following through without missing any. Like. I keep different books at different places in my home. One on the teapoy in the drawing room. One on the dining table, one in toilet, one(two- one to read when I get up one before I go to sleep- what I call as nightcap reading) by the bedside. I carry one or two to office, too, so that I could read one in the forenoon, one in the afternoon- at coffetime and post lunch respectively. I do not how about you- I have wide reading interests, in that my reading interests are drom P to p. This variety itself is an antidote to boredom as far as reading material is concerned. For me to succeeed all I need to do is keep up the minimum amount of reading needed from each of the books. I hope this is something for you to chew on. [GADHISUNU]

personally I plan to read more and to buy myself a new computer, [davidabraham]
and some new appliances in the future, [davidabraham]

Yes, the Internet does seem to interfere with reading a lot. I think maybe it's because I read quite a bit when I am on line, and when it comes to reading books, I may have had enough reading? I speak to a lot of my friends and they tend to say they find the same problem since getting a computer. I think the only way around this is to allocate an hour to reading before I switch on the computer and see if that makes a difference. I used to read a lot as I believe it does improve knowledge and concentration. :-) Derek [derek_a]

I try to read everyday. I enjoy reading magazines and books. I like also reading the discussions on MyLot. Hehehe. Good luck to you. [chunijole]

I try to fill in time by reading whether it is a newspaper, a magazine or a book. I go early to work and I have half an hour at my disposal daily which I dedicate to reading. Right now I am reading a dog how to take care and train dogs. I don;t make a goal to read more as I feel it inside me to read whenever I need to. (c) ronaldinu 2009 - the more people I meet-the more I love my dog [ronaldinu]

Well since I already read a lot, and most people who know me think that is all I do is read (I always have a book handy), I probably should say no, right? I read whenever I can and always when I have time. I read for entertainment and escape from stresses in my life. I wish I had more time to read!! [quinnkl]

I have good intentions when it comes to reading. I love to read and I've done lots of book interviews. I have loads of books to read that I haven't even opened! I need to get busy and start reading! But I've been too busy on my blog, web site, and here at mylot and other writing places. Maybe I'll get started reading again very soon. [Barb42]

I never plan on my reading. I just go with what I am in the mood for at the time. I love reading but have to have the time to sit down as once I get started on a book, I will read it in a day or two. [nanajanet]

Hi. Like you, I love to read. I don't plan on reading any more in the coming year...I just don't want to read any less. I have to read every night before bed...it seems to relax be and I get to sleep quicker. I have 2 sons who hate to read and it drives me crazy . Nadine [Nadinest]

Actually I finished a book that I started last year (The third secret) and already this year read the least 2 books in the Maximum Ride series by James Patterson. If you are a Harry Potter Fan, I would definitely recommend this series. This is also for the Sci-Fi fans, the books are target to kids but they are great. It is a sotry about some kids who have been genetically modified using recombinant DNA to be part bird. [Debs_place]

Since reading is a huge part of my job, you bet I will. Not to name any specific books as I'll go with my kids to the library or will read various children books to them. They love it, especially the interactive style books. The type that you have to ask them questions, and they have to figure out the answer by looking at the pictures in the book. Shocking to me, the last time we went the library, about two weeks ago, my 2 year old daughter answered one before her older brother and sister did. That truly amazed me. Anyway, regarding my job, it requires me to read, reread, and read some more to ensure that all of the information that is being distributed is correct, as it is very important that all I's are dotted and all T's are crossed as per our CEO's instructions and our HR guidelines. Some times it can be tedious work, but often it will be very monotonous, and satisfying to know that information provided to the public was a sole representation of the excellence that I have been trained to operate in. [hdjohnson]

I have a disability which makes it hard for me to hold and read a book, and turn pages. I just got an Amazon Kindle as a gift, so I plan to try to read more now that I have that. [fec139]

I plan to make an attempt to read more this year, even have a few books I plan on finishing in the next few months. [UtopianIdealist]

i believe that keeping reading books can make me more competitive in society.i spent two hundred yuan buying books each year and i am pround to say that i finished them all. [vikeyshuy]
