After you have bought a book how many of you actually ever re-read the books?
I do not think I have ever been able to re-read a book. Once I remember I stopped reading a self-help book and then went back to it a year later and tried to re-read the beginning and became frustrated with it because it started to coe back to me. I do not think I could re-read a book (especially a fiction book) where I already knew the ending.
How many of you re-read books?

responses and comments:
I used to keep these books thinking that I would either go back and re-read them, or use them as reference later on in life. Then I discovered life is too busy. So I started selling them. I even have some books that I haven't even gotten a chance to read yet, that I bought at least a couple of years ago. There is one fiction book, which I just adore though. It is a classic, and I will take it with me when I fly from time to time. I will read bits and pieces of it here and there. But I think that's the only one. Thanks for starting this discussion and have a good evening! [kykidd]
I re-read books all the time. I only buy the books that I really like, and I read them every few years. You know the ending, but you forget certain details, and it is still interesting to read. when I really like a book I will read it over and over! I just enjoy reading so much, and have a lot of favorite books. [coxjamir]
Simply put, the book would have to be a real exciting book and be one that has real meaning for me to refer back to. If the book is non-fiction, or a self-help book, I will usually underline the important facts and then refer back to the book without re-reading it word for word. Sometimes, what I will do is take a pack of index cards and write down the important facts from a book so that if I want to refer to them, then I will have them handy and this way I do not have to take the book with me and fumble through it trying to find what I am looking for. I do like to re-read books, sometimes years after I first read them. sometimes I re-read because I have forgotten most of its contents and at times I re-read a book because at some particular point or stage of life, I feel i will understand the book better than when I had read it earlier. I also re-read a book after I see the movie if any is based and made on that. Like I am reading "Little women" for the second time right now, I had read the classic long back and I find it enjoyable even today. [serenidity]
hi taface412. yes, i re-read books even fiction ones especially if the book is a favorite of mine. just last night, i was re-reading my favorite part in "the godfather" book that i have. usually, when i'm bored or have nothing much to do, i re-read books. i just want to relive the moment that i had during the first time i read that part so i re-read the book. other times, when i read something and there are bits and pieces that i do not understand, i re-read the book to fully grasp the whole idea of the book. happy mylotting. cheers!!! [allen0187]
also, re-reading books to me, feels like talking to long lost friends after sometime of not seeing each other. sounds cheesy but that's how i really feel. so call me a cheesy legend!!! lol! [allen0187]
yes, i re-read books especially ones by my favorite authors like Isabel Allende :) Even though i already know how the story goes, its nice going back at the story. Sometimes I notice more details and appreciate the book more on the second or third time :) [katemeow]
Yes I do the same thing. I do not re read every book I have ever read but ones that I really enjoy the story and the characters I can re read and take the journey through their lives again. I agree that when you read a second time you notice things you missed the first time. Often when you read a story you were so busy reading the story to see what happened that you miss the little things. When you read it a second time you know what happens so you linger over the story more and see things that you never noticed before. [sharra1]
I do not make it a hobby to re-read a book.It is because, once I know the ending of it, then I will feel no excitement at all. I already know what is the ending, so I think, it will just be a waste of time. Aside from that, I love to know stories in other books also. I believe that when you read many books, then it will broaden your knowledge.I will admit that the discussion I started here and the response I am doing are the informations I got from reading also. I am enjoying the things I learned from reading because I can share it on mylot.Once I pick a book and read it, I pay attention to everything it states. I am a always trying my best to comprehend it. Aside from that, I also make judgments or analysis on what the author wants to implies on his work.Sometimes, I am making reviews on it also. I feel satisfaction once I know in myself that I did my best not just to read but to understand the book as well.I usually post it on my friendster account.I guess I will only do a re-reading if I will report it in class and I have to do it as detailed as possible.Sometimes, I just go back to those books in which there are some important lines there that touched my heart. I am very fond of marking lines that I think is very essential to me. [annierose]
yes, I do re-read books to refresh whats the story about. usually you tend to forgot whats the story about coz a lot of books you been had read. [kenah2008]
Normally (when i have time to read at all), I reread books I really enjoyed when I'm really bored and have nothing left to read that I haven't already read. It's neat to see how much I catch on 2nd and 3rd reads that I didn't catch on the first read. ...I'd have to say I've read "The Eyes of the Dragon" by Stephen King more than any other book. [visitorinvasion]
I loveto re-read books. Usually in the first reading I am so enthralled that I devour the book just to find out what happens next and then to see how it ends. In the second reading I find subtle nuances that I missed the first time and for a truly good book I get lost in the characters and imagery all over again. [LuvBr0wn13s]
Interesting question. I hadn't really thought about it before but now that you mention it there has been one book that I did re-read several years later. It was The House of the Seven Gables, by Nathaniel Hawthorne. It's amazing how one sentence can take up an entire page. A real classic and if memory serves me right, I believe it was the first book I actually read from cover to cover. I haven't had a desire to re-read any other books though. [bendy113]
There are a few books that I have read more than once. I am especially fond of "The Dragon Riders of Pern" series by Ann McCaffrey. I go back to these when I am looking for an escape. Rereading these books hasn't ever been boring, it's like visiting with old friends. [savak03]
my dear taface412 well i read the books for collecting information there are alot of books with me and i read it every sunday because by the shortage of time i cn't learn it [faizi1]
I grew up with my family having the culture of borrowing books from libraries. We were poor and it's the logical thing to do. After I started working and earning my own money, I was still trying to keep to this habit by borrowing books from the library but I was always irritated whenever I need to return a good book. Nowadays, I always buy books because I know I'll re-read them after a period of time. I just have to make sure I'm always getting a good book which isn't hard with all the reviews available online. ;p There is a kind of comfort in re-reading which is almost like meeting an old friend again especially for fiction, fantasy series, chick flick or novels. As for self help books re-reading, I am always pleasantly reminded of all the little tips here and there that i forgot to put practice into my life. [alexlsp]
I actually do that though it's a crazy thing to read again what you had read once. But if the book is good and you want to read it again, why not.I just remembered that I bought a book from a book sale last year. It was entitled: The Bride Hunt by Diana Diamond. The book was indeed a good. It's a love story so I really enjoyed reading it. It takes me two days to finished reading that book. After a week I decided to read it again. I don't know but I really love to re-read it detail by detail. My mom told me that I am crazy to read what I had read already but I just told her that I do like the story so much.Happy posting! [eynjel05]
Hi hi taface412 i often re-read my books.when you re-read it again you found it,oh,,,i seems i didn't read this part.hehe........yes..especialy the books which tells you how to leading good life .and how to make a better chooses. yes l like to read books about to teach people stuff..... i have ten more books,,i often re-read,hehe cheers... [333tangtang]
I have books that I re read. I don't re read every book that I read. Just my favourite books. They become like old friends and its nice to read themn and refersh my mind about them and read the bits that I have forgooten, its like catching up with an old freind. If you think about it when we are children we re read our books so why not as an adult [Anne18]
Yes sometimes I reread book, it happens when I am overexcited and want to know what will happen next and do not read it very carefully. Just to understand and visualise things I reread it.I also reread an intresting book if I am getting bored and there is noting special to do. [puneet08]
Yes,I re-read the books. Sometimes I use them for my guidance. I have read all my books twice atleast. But from last year, I don't get time to even buy the books. So now I read the book only once and that even not completely. Some times I skip the pages where I know what is written over there. BTW this i a nice topic for discussion [vinit_1791]
Well, I do re-read books. Espceially my favorite ones. But I only do this after years of having read it. And even if halfway into the book, I get to remember what it was all about, I still feel immersed in the story. I usually keep my favorite books in a separate shelf. [rensal77]
i like to read books and if i like them i will think about re-reading them. i only read the books again if i really enjoyed them and there have been afew i have re-read. so to answer your question yes i do re-read books but only certain ones. [molloy]
I can count on one hand how many books I have re-read. The Bible, Wild At Heart (John Eldridge) and Pariah, can't remember the author, now that was one freaky book. That's why I go to the library, I don't want to buy something, read it, and then let it sit on my shelf for years. [gitfiddleplayer]
Yes I re read books all the time if it is a really good book. In fact if I know the story then I can enjoy reading it more as I know what will happen. I know that some people only like reading when they do not know the story but I read a story because I also like the characters and I take the journey with them again. I read The Lord of The Rings trilogy many times taking that journey with the characters, watching them grow and change. There are many books that I have enjoyed reading more than once. [sharra1]
I do re-read books that I bought, especially if the book is my favorite, even if I already know what will happen or the ending that it got. There are times too that I re-read it because there are parts or things that I wanted to confirm if I remember it correctly when I'm having a debate or talk with my friends or family about the book just like in Harry Potter. I re-read the book as well for the favorite parts that I really like. Though, not quite often I finished the book that I re-read, I more than likely got a habit to re-read books that I particularly love. happy [kylie_quistis]
yes. I reread many books because I really enjoy them. I have just discovered a wonderful author by the name of Marshal Karp. I love this guy. If you think Janet Evanovich (Stephen Plum) is funny you will love this guy. His characters are police office in Hollywood. Laugh out loud funny. I reread Dean Koontz and many others. Even if you know the ending its the journey to the end that counts. [patms1]
I re-read books all the time! Agatha Christie, my 'classics' (Emma, Pride&Prejudice, Jane Eyre), and my Nancy Drew books (never gave those up, the original stories that is). It is usually a year between readings though - and I always enjoy them. [jess1890]
yea re-reading of books is always very good but u must be intereted in a book uwant to re-read before u will be able to re-read it over and over again.. i often re-read books most especially books i need to re-read to get ponit from it... re-reading of books is good ... [gbemoo4tyy]
i went back and read a series of books over. Twilight series by Stephanie Meyer. i think i read all of them about 5 times or more. To me they are just so good, everytime i read them over i find a detail that i didnt catch in the first time i read the book. I enjoy reading i can read a book many times if it holds my intrest. [jamie08]
I re-read books occasionally, and am usually glad I did. But I don't think I've re-read a book that I've just read less than 10 years ago. Usually it's a book that I read while going to college back in the 1960s & 1970s. A few years ago I re-read Barbara Tuchman's "The Guns of August" which is about World War I. Even when I read it the first time, I knew how it was going to come out, but it's an extremely suspenseful story nontheless because the ending was far from certain. It looked almost certain that it would come out differently until after the German army began their final drive to capture Paris. I'd forgotten how bleak the prospects were to stop the German juggernaut, and I'd forgotten the details about the personalities of the many people involved in the war and how the unexpected is so often the determining factor in the outcome. [charles63]
Yes, I reread books. I have several books in my collection that I would reread depending on my mood. Some fiction books are like old friends to me. There are just those times that I would like to immerse myself again into a familiar story, and reexperience how much fun I had reading it. Sometimes there are just books that get better every rereading, like you pick up nuances that you didn't think of during your first reading. There are many reasons that would prompt me to reread a book, although I try not to do that so much, considering that my to-be-read list is a mile long, but there are just books in my collection that I cannot resist. Some of them I actually keep handy by my bedside table, and I would pick them up and once again be lost in a familiar story. [wayz12]
Sadly there are only a few books I have re read. Because the story was so heart touch and special. Or because the tale brings back awesome memories of days that seemed to have gone by to quickly. But then of course there are the books that they were only good for a once over. But that's way it's great to have a book exchange with other people you know. Everyone gets something to read and the book does more then just collect dust. [karadiablo]
I used to read a lot of fiction and biographies when I was in 7th and 8th grade. But later on I started reading more of magazines and newspapers. I havent ever read a book again but I do read magazines and newspapers over and over again as and when required. Sometimes I take cutouts or make marking for future refernces. As far as re-reading a complete novel or book is concerned I dont think I have that much time anymore. [zeethegr8]
I re-read my favourite books, not once, not twice but many times over. I have even had to buy some of them again because the pages have started to become loose. I don't care about knowing the ending. It's usually the excellent story and the characters that make me want to read it again. [Anomalie]
yup!... i read and re-read books.,.,, in library like computer books, dictionaries, biology and others that can help me in the future!... I read sometimes!.,. twice a week!....heheheheh,., coz i have my job!... [qwerty19]
Yes I do that especially now with Twilight Saga. I'm reading it for the second time. I wish Stephenie Meyer will start finishing Midnight Sun ;) [reejane]
I didn't used to re-read books because in the past I have limited myself to reading classic novels, which while fantastic works of literature aren't usually very exciting or easy to read. Lately I have moved away from the classics and have branched out into more modern novels in genres like mystery, romance, and chick lit. While these aren't necessarily the most profound things that I have ever read, they are frequently very exciting, fast reads, and funny. I love to laugh while I read. For this reason I re-read some these books because they are funny and I like to laugh. Also because they are such fast reads I tend to forget the details about what happened in the book so re-reading isn't so boring. Great discussion and happy mylotting! [kkthom3]
i do re-read books especially when i have no book to read and my day is boring i will my old books and read it again just to have done something.... [becnh83]
Hi taface! I should say i'm guilty of that. I may have re-read my books yet but i want to and i'm planning of doing it soon. Those are the books that i really love and i treat as my personal collections because they have sentimental value to me. I will get bak to them very soon.happy [jb_vete]
This depend on what kind of book. I seldom re-reand one book, But I would re-read that book if it is pretty good. [James_fan]
I do re-read books. Some simply because they really touched my heart. It's no different than watching your favorite movie over and over again. Some I keep for references. Sometimes I would become so enthralled with what I was reading that I would rush through it, unable to put it down. I would read it again, more slowly to absorb anything that I may have missed. For me, it isn't about the ending, it's about being involved with what I am reading, experienceing all I can and gleaning all the joy. [Carolyn63]
Hello! I certainly do not re-read books. I cannot. I can't stand reading the same thing again! No matter how good the book was, I already know the end of it and the next words, the next things happening in the story. I have many books in here, but I do not re-read any of them. I'd rather read them only once and say that they are great than re-read them and start spreading the word that they are boring. It is pretty strange. It is different from watching a movie twice. Respectfully, Munhozmib. [munhozmib]
