When I was younger, in elementary school, I read all the time, at least 5 books a week. When I got older, into middle and high school, it slowed down to about 2 books a month. Now that I'm in my 20's, I am lucky to be able to read a book every 6 months. I just have so much going on in my life, and I can't seem to find time to sit down and read a good book. I miss it, because one of my favorite past times is reading. I used to enjoy it so much and I feel like I'm missing out on a fun part of my life. Do you enjoy reading? Do you find it hard to find time to read?

I used to read a lot more, but now I don't have too much time to do so. I'm busy writing, but still enjoy reading every time I get the chance of it. I read around 1 book every 2 months, while before it was at least 1 book every 2 weeks. Life changes! [berlinlife]
That's true, life does change. It seems as we get older, we stop doing the things that we used to love doing. [AdTe23]
I read more than ever now. I think one of the big reasons for that is because I have to for school. I still read about one book a week not related to school. When I was younger I read more for pleasure than I do now. Now I don't have the time, I am busy reading Anatomy and Phisiology books :) [princeworthy]
Anatomy and Physiology? I think I would fall asleep! LOL [AdTe23]
When I was working I found the audio books. I listened to the books while doing data entry. I have sold about 100 of my books and still have twice as many left! I don't get to listen to as many books now, because I had bought a lot on tape & my car has a cd player, that's where I listen to them now. I just tracked down a tape player so I'm going to try & listen to them anyway. Oh, this tape player is a "four track" player, its been adapted for the "talking book" program for the blind. This way I could listen to my roomie's talking books too. [ElicBxn]
Wow that sounds neat. [AdTe23]
I still read a lot, but it's online mostly. ;) As far as books go, I certainly was far more prolific in my 20's than I am now, though I still like to read quite a bit. I just take more time between reading sessions now due to other things going on. Plus, I've been using video, as in documentaries and whatnot, as a great way to get more information. Then again, I read far more non-fiction than fiction. [omnithought]
I read everything. My favorite books are horror stories, but I like a lot of others too. [AdTe23]
I never really read for fun during high school but during college i read a lot, mostly extra books about the same topics we covered in class. then after i graduated, i pretty much stopped reading all together. a few years later, i read every day, mostly because i have no tv to watch and no access to the internet! but now, i really enjoy reading. [charlazio]
since I've started using the internet I read less books, but an trying to make a conscious effort to read more books as there are so many good ones out there I want to read. I'm expecting a gift voucher in the post I'm going to spend on the new Terry Pratchett book if possible. [nancyrowina]
I joke that the only time I have to read is on the toilet or in the tub. THats the only time I really don't get bugged. I have had a hard time lately finding any time to read. [mystic2mom]
I know how you feel. I used to read in the tub all the time. I'd go in, lock the door, fill the tub with hot water, and just lay there and read. It was so relaxing. Unfortunately, I can't even do that anymore. Every time I go to the bathroom, I either have my husband or my son knocking on the door, wanting in. [AdTe23]
yeah i used to read multiple books each nite! These were easy books tho, 100-150 pages each. In my elementary school class if you reada book, you got a credit on your "creditcard" and once you got 25, the teacher would order a book of your choice for you out of the book-order forms we got each month/ =D [noah2413]
I really started to read a lot when I was 16. One of my teacher gave us a list of book to read and we had to read 5 during the year. I've choose only big book with around 400-700 pages each. After that I began to read a lot. Sometimes I have less time to do it or I don't have any book to read for a moment. I try at least to read 20-30min everyday. [beyonce03]
My primary and secondary education were the times when i used to read lots of books......... But now i don't have time to read books as i will be busy with other work... Now i read short stories whenever i find time .. [uzumaki]
I read more than ever now, usually several books a day. It depends on how busy I am. [Bd200789]
I love to read and try to read every chance that I get. Although lately when I should be reading I have found myself typing on mylot. LOL. I let my husband drive on long trips while I read. Atleast once a week I also try take a nice long bubble bath and I will soak while I read my book. It is very relaxing for me. I have also taught my kids the importance of reading and they to also love it know. [limosonia1]
I don't have the time I used to. I try to read every night, it is hard with a 2 month old though. When she is older it will be easier. Once the weather is nice I hope to take her outside & get some reading done. [crystal8577]
I always love to read a lot but now a days as u stated i really dont get any time to read Whatever time we get is utilised in studying only [pratham_pp]
I am also sad to say that I don't read as much as I used to. When I was younger, I usd to go through books in a matter of weeks, sometimes even a few days when I read over summer vacation. Once I got old enough to work, I found lself reading less because work made me either too tired, or just took up too much time. When I started taking some graduate level classes, I barely got to read any books for fun or recreation because I could barely find enough time to read my school books as it was. In a lot of ways, it was heart breaking because I really like to read. This semester I'm not taking any classes and I've already read three books since December. I am so happy about it and I try to take at least a half an hour out of my nightly routine to read a little. It helps relax me most of the time. The real problem is when I get to a really exciting part of a book. When that happens, I'll look at the time and suddenly realize that I had planned to go to sleep over an hour ago. Opps. [krebstar5]
I used to be the same way. I'd get so wrapped up in a book that I would completely lose track of time. I remember reading all night long one time, and when I finally looked at the clock, it was 6 am, and I started reading at 6 pm the night before. [AdTe23]
Well, that depends. I read quite a bit, but not for my enjoyment as much as for my children's. I have a 7, 5, and 2 year old, and we read just about everytime we get into the car. I've read every Magic Tree House book, Series of Unfortunate Events, and Geronimo Stilton book that they can check out of the library. I do get to read grown up books, but have decided that it's better for me to buy them than check them out of the library, because it takes so long for me to get through them. I am currently reading the 2nd book of the "eragon" series. (LOVE IT!) and anxiously awaiting the 3rd one. I do enjoy reading children's books, don't get me wrong, but sometimes, grown-up thinking is nice, too. [creematee]
I know how you feel. I read to my son all the time, but I can't seem to find time to read grown-up books. Maybe eventually I will be able to. [AdTe23]
I certainly don't read as much as I used to there is just no time, but I still try and make as much time as possible. I still read almost every night at bed time and I try to read on my lunch hour as well. Like you I used to read at least five a week, and as I got older it decreased, and in fact for a time in my 20's I didn't read at all really other then one every now and then (and of course my annual reading of the Lord of the Rings). But now I am back to reading often and I am up to about two books a month (though lately it has slowed again). [Myrrdin]
I used to read all the time, even when I worked two jobs and was driving back and forth between my own home, my grandfathers to take care of him and my sister's to take care of my niece I found time to read all in all my spare moments. But no I stopped reading and I think it had an adverse affect on me, so now I go to the library and will come home with 15 books or so and finish them quickly. I don't do this all the time but I try to do this every couple of months or so. [nowment]
I enjoy reading immensely, and in the past year I have finally been able to get to reading a lot of books again. What I have found that has made all the difference for me is the stress levels in my life. When things were hectic, and downright crazy, I just didn't have time to read, nor did I have the patience to absorb it, so it wasn't worth even trying. To me, there is no coincidence that when my life is balanced, and I am happy and content, I am also reading great books. :) [QueenKaren]
I loved to read books in all kinds when I was in my country (surely, read all those in my language). However, once I came to the states, it seems so hard to read and understand everything in books. I knew ... I knew.... a lot of people told me that I dont have to understand every single word that I read. just try to get the meaning and big picture of those articles and that's really bothering me When I want to buy any book to read. I would think that I have to read in English...why dont I just take those time and try to read my textbooks in stead. After that, I didnt really read my textbooks and barely finish them too coz it's so boring. Another thing is... when I have to read newspaper for pop quiz or research paper. That would make me really hate newspaper after I passed my classes. I dont know if any other international students will feel the same way as me. Any suggestiong that I can FEEL like I wanna read and love to read like before? [deknorkonline]
I used to love to read I would buy a book and couldn't wait to get home and start it , I would stay up till all hours some night just so I could finish it , but since I discovered the Internet my book reading has gone completely , I must admit though if I find a discussion here and IF I AM INERESTED I READ ALL THE RESPONSES TO THEM ( I MEAN OTHER PEOPLES DISCUSSIONS) I ALREADY READ AND RATE EVERY ONE OF MY RESPONSES AS A THANK YOU XX [weemam]
I love to read-- and it is very important for parents to show thier children they like to read. Makes them readers too. I'm 34 and have 1 daughter- We both read alot. I find myself so engrossed into a book that I can finish is in 2 days- I love how books take you to new places- No matter what you like to read- its always a journey. I mostly read at night-- Before bed. [KrisNY]
i have to admit, i dont read that much anymore. the only things i read are for school. when i was younger, i used to go to the library every single day with a friend and check out like 5 books...and read them all in one night. i was a dork, i know. i used to read alllll the time. now i maybe read one book a year, if even that. i guess i just dont have that much time anymore since i am busy with school. [pagli84]
i have the same feeling like you... i used to read a lot when i am younger... i can finish a very thick book (more than 300 pages) in 3 days (my record time)... but now, i hardly read anymore because i am so busy with other stuffs and i just too tired when i have free time... i just want to sleep... so, yeah... i miss it a lot as well as i actually enjoy reading... [lingli_78]
I read more than I used to do lol. As a child I loved reading with a passion. That passion has grown as I've gotten older. Now I make a point of reading every single night. I read quite often when I go to bed, because oftentimes I just don't feel tired enough to sleep. Currently I have 3 bookcases full of books with a new one needed for the books I have lying around the house - added to which, my partner has started buying books on a more regular basis just recently too. [retardedrugrat]
I love reading, but I don't get to read as much as I would like. In fact there is a pile of books on my nightstand just waiting for me to get through. I like reading novels, but I also read comic books (both in monthly books, and larger bound trade paperbacks). The Monthly comics are nice becuase they don't take long to read so I can read one before bed without staying up too late past my bedtime...which could make me late for work the next morning. I find I do most of my reading while traveling, unfortunatley I have not been able to travel as much as I would like either! Nothing like a nice long plane ride (and my fligts are always delayed, so there is also siiting in the airport) to help you get through a few books. [twilight021]
You know i have never been a big reader.. I actually read more now then i have in the past..With mylot and i have read some books that i have found interesting.. But i wish that i liked to read.. but i just can't get into some books.. guess i don't have a good imagination.. so see the story come to life.. [annieroos]
I love reading and always have. My mother was an avid reader and passed the love of books and reading on to me. I read more now that my kids have grown up. I try to read at least 2 books a week. Sometimes more. I have several books going at once in different rooms of the house. I have passed that love of reading onto my daughter and she loves to read also. [bunnylady01]
no, and i wish i did,.. its hard to find the time and the privacy to read anymore.. [lpetges]
I am exactly the same way as you are on this subject as i too used to read a whole lot more when i was younger and the most that i get a chance to read now is the discussions here on mylot .... LOL!!! I have not been very active in my reading habits as i used to be when i was even a teenager i was still reading about a book or more a day! [ronita34]
I used to read a lot too when i was still in school. But when i get married and work i can't find enough time to do my reading.Though i still read but not too often.I used to finish a book in just 2 days but now it would take me weeks to finish it.I only read them in between breaks. [foreverblue921]
When I was younger I did used to read a lot more. I guess because I had to for school and college. Now I have a family I read kids books more often than adult ones. I do tend to read for a few mins before bed every night. [michelledarcy]
Yes I do read every night when I go to bed as it takes me to another World and I can switch of. I love reading I always have, but when I was in my last Job I never got much of a chance to read, as I had to Kids, a house to run and a full time Job with a lot of Hours. But since I have been put on Disability I do have a lot of time to read again [gabs8513]
i honestly dont read as much as i used to either... i guess ive lost the love for it. when i was younger i enjoyed it but now because of school forcing us to read books that i have no interest in i guess ive lost the passion. and now when i read i end up falling asleep. [marian_o9]
when i was in school, i really like to read since my life's schedule was not that hectic just like now...well, reading is a hobby that will need lots of time from the reader...so if your just a home buddy with nothing else to do and likes reading, well, you will really have an opportunity to browse through your shelves and pick up a book for entertainment....but meanwhile, for us busy persons, well, reading is not really an option....as of the moment.... [geejoy]
After entering high school, I can only read what I am assigned to read instead of what I want to read. It really does trouble me. Books were my inspiration. I do try to fit in a book that interests me once in awhile. [emskoneko]
Reading is one hobby that I enjoy. I used to read 4 books a week but with all my other activities i can't do this anymore. However, i make sure that i read at least 1 book a week. [lvap0628]
As far back as I can remember, I've loved to read. For years I averaged one book every 2 days. Since I now spend so much time online (here and also playing games in Pogo), my reading time is limited to waiting to see a doctor, any break I get at work, bathroom time (LOL), and any trips that we take. Anywhere I go, I take a book with me...just in case. It's nice to have one if I have to wait on anyone or anything. [claudia413]
I know exactly what you mean. I used to read constantly and I read everything I could get my hands on. But once I got to high school I barely read at all and now I buy books but I hardly have time to read them. I think its exactly what you said, its the lack of time. We all have so much going on in our lives that its really hard to get a chance to read. I wish I could find the time to read because there is so much that I want to read. [smartie1685]
I love to read, and make the time. I didn't when I was younger, but I do now. I love the sellers best novels of fiction. [margieanneart]
hells noo !! when i was younger i use to read all da tym !! but now since im older i'd rather go chill wif mi friends or talk on msn or go see mii b.f [straight_n_fried]
Absolutely. I also think that I read as much as I do because we don't have cable. We live on a budget, and we make sacrifices, and my husband and I decided that the cable was something that we could live without. I miss my fav. shows, however, we are back to reading more, and spending more time as a family, instead of vegging in front of the screen. I read at all times of the day, and I read quite a bit at a time. I mean that I read the books quickly. I "burn" through them as my husband is fond of saying. So we spend a bit on books, and we do have quite a few in the house that I haven't read yet, thankfully. I've tried the paperbackswap thing, however, no one wants any of my books, so I haven't been able to get any new ones lately. [serialmommy]
i used to read a lot of books before.i could read a book for 8 hours.but now things change.its sad actually.after reading your discussion i felt that its about time to go back to what i used to love doing.i know i will find relief from all the turmoil thats happening to my life now... [tantie]
if you said its about books then i did read as much as i did. but if u said any articles, then yes i read as much as i did before and i believe i read more articles than before. articles are short and easier to finish eventhough the information are compact but we can always find the books to get the easier understanding version. I do enjoy reading a lot as it increase my knowledge. but i cant seems to find a free time to read, then again i guess its just a reason to escape from reading [samseiko]
i used to read a lot because i finished my study and get a good point, i enjoy reading as my hobby, no i am not find to hard to get my time for read i have much time for reading some books. [lestari]
I enjoy reading very much, and no I don't read as much as i used to. Between the house chores, helping or talking to the kids and all the rest, reading has been relegated to whenever there is a bit of free time, that hardly comes. I tend to read a bit before going to sleep, but sometimes I avoid even that because when I start reading an interesting book i tend to forget the time.. and i have to get up early. But every once in a while I do take some time to catch up on reading. [arkaf61]
Lack of time has been a major reason due to which, I have not been able to continue with my hobby of reading books of my personal interest. I have ended up reading books of professional interest, just to remain updated. Wish i had that wonderful gift of time in my control [Bangalorean]
Yeah I still read as much as I used to, because reading is my hobby and I can just spend the whole day reading and relaxing ahhahaha I learnt many things from novels, such as new information, new tricks, new vocabulary. However, since Im working full time and have many activities, it is a bit hard to spare some time reading, but I still manage to read a few pages each day and since Im a fast reader, I also manage to finish a couple of books per week. I have found that my vocabulary have increased a lot, sometimes there are words that I thought was common, and turns out that my brother never even heard of that word. I also found that my grammar improved because I then can learn from the way the writer wrote the book etc2. [babydolphin]
I was reading heavily through college. I still was reading nice up until like 2 years back. But I'm getting back into it. It took a while. I plan to always be learning & reading and stuff. When I have kids read to them. I was reading at 4yrs old and I hope I have kids who start early too [monkeywriter]
Oh how I wish i had more time to read. I used to read 3-5 books a week. But since I had a kid over a year ago, it's been tough finding some time to read my kind of books. Oh I read a lot---to and with my kid. Yup, kiddie books. I've developed a liking to my son's choice of books: Brave Little Baby Dan, Bong's Day, Jack in the Beanstalk, The Little Tin Soldier, Mickey Makes Music.... But the stuff I used to read have taken second priority now. I do get to read a book in a month or 2 magazines in a week. Plus, with the inclusion of internet surfing in my routine, I get to read about 5 articles on Parenting in a week. [mommydiaries]
Not as much but I still make it a point to read one book in every two months. There was a time I even read a novel and finished it in a day! But of course there are so much to do now that I rarely find time to devote to reading nowadays. Sigh... [silentwill]
yes i definitely enjoy reading . and I do read a lots. I read from variety of sources and like to keep on reading. for me it is like getting ideas, new concepts . improving lots of things and moreover it is a fun.. [earnwhilelearn]
when i was on my elementary days i dont like reading books i only read when i have to for my studies but on my free time no no no im outside playing..but when i reached my college days i used to read till now.. reading for me is my sleeping pills.. [joy1982]
i love reading. but i hardly find time these days in between college. im lucky if i can read one book in a month. i love reafing fiction and non-fiction especially by indian authors. books just take you to a different world altogether. i miss tht! [white8544]
I absolutely love to read. But as we grow older and more responsibilities pile on, we dont get enough time to do the things we want to do. I used to read atleast one book a week. I still read but tis very erratic. Sometimes i manage 4 books a month and sometimes i dont read for 3-4 months at a time. [bindishah]
I used to read so much when I was little. I was a voracious reader then. Aside from reading tons of textbooks from my school, I also have fiction and science books that I really love to read. My favorite aunt likewise loved to give me hard-bound books during christmas as presents. What's funny is that even if they are hard-bound, I still cover them with plastic. [ernst111]
i used to read a lot more than i do now because i don't get time due to busy schedule and when i am free i go to my computer to play games or get connected to the internet [mitsubishi]
