Do You Read Comics

I am not going to ask if you read books - most of you will probably bow your head in shame and try to hide behind a pillow. To many people, books are hideous monsters that sap the life energy of anyone who dares to approach them. You can hear "I don't like to read!"... "It's boring!"... "It makes me sleep!"... blah blah. But hey, just for the record, I love to read - but no, comics are not my cup of tea. :P The question here is that even if you don't read e.g. novels, do you at least read comics? You know what comics are right? You know, those flimsy sheets of paper bound into thin "books"... those thingies with very little text in them but lots lots lots of pictures. I know friends who don't "read" but who are at least avid "readers" of comics. How about you? Do you read COMICS? Any interesting tidbits of your life to tell? Do share. =)

responses and comments:

I used to love to read comics when I was a child, especially when my family was traveling by car. My brothers and I used to pass the time by reading comics. My brothers really got into the comic books more than I did, but I did enjoy reading them in the car. They would read them even when we weren't in the car, and one of them collects them to this day. I haven't read a comic book in at least 25 years. I do, however, love to read books. [hellsangel]
You know, dream and fantasize being {insert superhero} in your mind.:P [lordwarwizard]

I will say that I totally enjoy reading comics. They are my favourite past time. And we have here our locan comics of local super heroes they are simply so good. So, I just like it. I read and read. I wait desparately for the next issue and will be the first one to buy it among my friends. [diillu]

it is so nice to read quality reading materials, this may be comics, novels, news papers and etc... as mark twian said, The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who cannot read them...i think mark twain is rigth. reading quality reading material is a healthy food for our mind. [bing_r77]

I love reading the ARCHIE Comic book series.:) It was really fun reading it and waiting for the betty vs veronica stints, and who would archie choose. :) [tryxiness]
Oh the days of long ago. :P [lordwarwizard]

I will read the comic's if i have a paper, but i do not buy comic books...I do not take the paper, but when i did take it ,then i read the comic's...Now and then i will buy a Sunday paper and when i do it has a large section of comic's so yes i will read them.i also read the comic's that is in magazines and the jokes ..I use to have comic books but i gave them all to the children... [slickcut]
GEEZ! Now that you mention it, I do read the comics (just 1 strip of the few published) in the papers. And hilariously, all along, I have been thinking I don't read comics... geez... [lordwarwizard]

Out come the closet comic readers lol! No, to me there is no shame if anyone wants to read comics. I prefer a good Martina Cole novel or a detective or even a horror. I think the last time I picked up a comic was the Beano and that was many many full moons ago! [wolfie34]
Oh yea, no shame of course. :P [lordwarwizard]

I was crazy about comics.that time my room is full of comics.often heard scold from my parents, that i dont learning from my school books.those days gone fast.now i lose my interest in reading comics.i gave my all collection of comics to my friends, relatives, and all those who wanted.and make the room empty. Now i come to the world of novels and fiction.i love reading books of well known authors.and im very curious about how they got the booker or nobel. Have a nice day. happy Myloting :-) [ajesh_pullad]
Oh yea, our interests change and change over the years. =) [lordwarwizard]

I am a very very .... (infinity) fan of comic books, especially "Amazing Spider-Man" Hehehehe! I am a Marvel Fan too! [ebtenorio]
So you must have caught all the spidy movies. :P [lordwarwizard]

I love reading books. I do admit I have slept over a few, especially those novels, which were supposed to be 'text books' when I was doing my MA programme. But, on the whole, I love books, and I have read loads of them ever since I learnt to read. As for comics, your post reminds me of "Tinkle", a children's comic magazine that was famous when I was a kid. I used to devour it every month, and I used to bug my parents if they failed to get one home. After Tinkle, I enjoyed, and still enjoy, "Tintin". Any Tintin fans around? [positiveminded1977]
Oh yes, I remember Tintin too... one of the first few comics I got. ^^ [lordwarwizard]

while i was growing up , the first thing that got my attention to read are the comic books because the action pictures attracted me and that's how i got started in reading other things than my dc and marvel comics, even up to now i still do get to read some of them and i still enjoy them. It is nice to feel young again. I even go to the extent of purchasing iconic figures of my heroes for my collection, my favorite is "Thor", the old original character, i hate the new one. [tigerdragon]
Oh yea, those pictures are nice. =) [lordwarwizard]

yeah.. i do read comics.. since i was a child i love 'em.. if i can recall..my favorite when i was a child was Archie.. well it's nice... reading comics makes me happy... [excloudstrife6]
Oh yea, one of the popular ones. =) [lordwarwizard]

i used to like lots of comics while growing up and that has put mein trouble so many times because i had to draw comics of voltron super man ,bat man and the likes i got punished for those [emma44]
Geez, I hope you get to develop your artistic talents... [lordwarwizard]

Thanks for the nice post. I do not read comics. My grand daughters have several comic books. Both enjoy reading them and enjoying the pictures. ks [kalyani2007]
It's a hobby to while the time away.:P [lordwarwizard]

No, I do not read comics. If I find time to read, it will be a book, or a discussion here on myLot. Everything seems to make me sleep. Many years ago I knew a town librarian, of a very small Kansas town. She had a 6ftx4ft table in the back of the library stacked with comic books. At first the townspeople did not like that. She pointed out that at least the students who were reading the comics were reading, and they were out of trouble, being supervised. I will read the funnies in the newspaper. [GardenGerty]
You are quite right. Even the schools and parents here have given up. At least reading comics is still reading so rather than discouraging children to not read comics (they won't read books anyway), might as well let them read them. [lordwarwizard]

I myself am an avid reader. However, I never have been able to read a comic book. Not even the old "Archie" ones. Just not my thing. In books, I can read pretty much anything except romance novels. Can't stomach those either. I prefer supernatural/thrillers. I love Anne Rice and Sue Grafton among many others. [misheleen73]
I like Anne too and I hate romance stories lol.:P [lordwarwizard]

yup, when I was a kid,but when I grew my interest in life changed,it was normal for as to change our interest as we grew.... [taurus67]

I still read comics whenever I have the time but the only thing is that I have stopped buying them many years ago. Now I would only read comics bought my brothers or my niece. The first two comics that I bought myself were Beano and Dandy and that was back in the 1980s. [shakeroo]
Just a little pastime. ^^ [lordwarwizard]

I love to read, mostly books. I never got into comics either. I don't know why. I might read a few comics in the newspaper, but there are none that keep me coming back. But throw a good book at me and I will either catch it or let it fly by depending on the subject matter. [sigma77]
Maybe because they are relatively "shallow" when compared to books? :P [lordwarwizard]

I love to read..I absolutely devour a good book.. My old favorites are John Stienbeck, Pearl S Buck, Poe,and many others.. I do not read comics very often unless someone points something out to me.. My favorite book that I own is a first edition of Robert Burns( Belonged to my G.G.gran..unfortunately I can not read it because it is in the old Scot's tongue..The children of my lovely Scot's daughter Mo might be able to read it for me in their language..Just once i would love to hear it! xoxoxoxoxo [raydene]
No translations available? :( [lordwarwizard]

I used to read comics when I was just a kid. I love to read about comedy. There was this comics for children called Funny Comics in our country. I don't know if it's still existing. I love reading it and I almost had a collection of it. But I eventually stopped reading it as I grew up and changed my hobbies and interestd. [gorgeousdreamer]
It was a very famous comics here in the Philppines before... hehe [gorgeousdreamer]

You brought back an old memory. When I was a kid every Friday we went to the drug store and we each got to choose our own comic book. I always chose Archie and my brother always got a Richie Rich comic book. Though, I haven't read one in many years [OURDEW]
Feeling nostalgic, eh? :P [lordwarwizard]

I read recommended fiction on condition that the height of the book is not more than an inch and the print must be in big fonts. Often, comics better meet my criteria easily. Besides, pictures are more attractive than words. LOL. [whyaskq]
OMG... those "books" interest you? What's HP? [lordwarwizard]

Hey wizzy, I love books :-) But I'm made to read only the ones that are available in the library and through my relatives. I find them too expensive to buy:( Comics, No, they are not my type either. But I cannot totally deny the fact that I've read comics in the past or I will ever read them in the future. I prefer reading them only when I'm feeling mentally exhausted and cannot concentrate on the novels or other books filled with quality content. Comics make reading a bit easy through their pictures. [I_LUV_U]
Hihi. =) Same here. Too much money if I buy everything I read. I am lucky that the libraries here are awesome. And yea, comics are easy in that you just look at the pictures. :P [lordwarwizard]

yeah i read comics specially when im just a child i love to read those funny comics and horror but drama or love story comics nope:-) [pinay81]
That many types? :) [lordwarwizard]

I curl up to a novel every night. It is one of my greatest pleasures. There is nothing like reading a nice, long, involved novel. Nope, I don't read the comics :( lol [saigonwarrior]
I love fantasy books. I read and read and read.:P [lordwarwizard]

I like reading comics because usually it's very relaxing. I don't have to think a lot to read comics. Actually I have a lot of comics at home and it is not possible for me to throw them away. My son is lucky, because he can continue to read them when he grows old a little:) [youless]
I heard some comics appreciate sharply in value after some time. Don't throw them away - sell them... maybe you will make a tidy sum! =) [lordwarwizard]

no I dont read comics since I was a kid now I read the real thing books big ones lol [Lakota12]
yup the ones that are from 400 to 700 pages in them no pictures at all. [Lakota12]

I read both books and comics. I often think that comics can get a pretty unfair reputation because people don't see them as real literature. The truth is that there are some really well written comics and graphic novels out there. For instance, it can be quite amazing to see how art and well written text can work together to make a really emotional and interesting story. Not all comics are about super heros, and there are some stories out there are are unlike anything I have read anywhere else. The trick is to go out there are see what kinds of comics might be more interesting to you. I don't read many superhero type comics myself, I find them boring or cofusing most of the time (confusing because there is just so much back story to keeo track of), but there are some graphic novels like Blankets, and Box Office Poison that are quite long and read like books more than short comic book issues. [krebstar5]
You are right. I don't consider them as "real literature" too, hehe. And yes to be fair, I haven't spent serious time exploring comics. :P [lordwarwizard]

Sometimes I read books like one a year, but my husband reads comics, he has quite a few that are work thousands of dollars, he wont give them up, lots of spiderman, halk, and some transformers! [bethack52]
WOW! That expensive!! [lordwarwizard]

HI! glad to see you back here! I personally don't read the 'comics' I would much rather curl up witha good Stephen King novel, on a dark & STORMY NIGHT!...Lori [dumblnddzzy]
Hahaha, I will check Steve out when other books are not available. :P Thank your brother for me! =) [lordwarwizard]

I read them years ago, especially Tom and Jerry. I haven't even seen a comic book in years. When I hear about one being auctioned for a fortune I cringe and wish I had kept mine. But my mother would have probably thrown them out anyway. [jillmalitz]
Well we have manuscripts auctions for high amounts too.:P [lordwarwizard]

Yes I like to read comics. In fact I sincereley think by reading comics one gets a lot of entertainment. [anup12]
Yup, that's the reason for this invention.:) [lordwarwizard]

Some people read comics to release their stress. My self alone, I read Hong Kong's comics. On the other words, KUNG FU actions. [business01]
Slash kick punch blast. Nice. ^^ [lordwarwizard]

I used to collect comic book, but now I just stick to the comics of the newspapers. I think some of my favorites are Blondie, Peanuts, Hi and Lois, Marmaduke, and a couple more I can't think of. But sure comics are a great past time that I will admit to, and while I don't do it much now, but I admit to it. Mooch [oneandonemakesix]
Wow quite a collection! =) [lordwarwizard]

I used to read comic books when I was in elementary school, but I have always loved to read books as well. I am one of those people who reads just about anything I can get my hands on. As an adult I read novels for pleasure (like fiction), educational books (craft ideas for kids, bible study) magazines, short stories, newspapers, and online information like you find here at myLot. I can't imagine what it would be like to have a dislike for reading! [loved1]
Avid reader. Thank God I love to read. Otherwise what to do when I get old(er)? :P [lordwarwizard]

I have loved comics forever. In fact I have a collection of some that are old and valuable. Now days I love Beetle Bailey and Hagar The Horrible. But as far as store bought comics I love Batman & Superman over others. Here's a smaole of some of my collection. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~ [webeishere]
Will be worth even more when your grandsons grow up! :P [lordwarwizard]

I only read comics if I am stuck with just a newspaper for entertainment. I happen to be one of those people that reads the books more than anything else. I have been known to read as many as 8 to 10 books in a week. I do get one comic e mailed to me daily and I read that one. I am not into reading newspapers or magazines, since independent journalists are strongly opinionated and don't know how to write concerning an issue without clouding the facts with their perceptions. So consequently my reading is all novels...currently I am reading "polar Shift" by Clive Cussler. Others I enjoy reading would be James Patterson, John Sanford, Patricia Cornwell, and Tom Clancy. [sumofalltears]
GEEZ! 8-10 books a week is a LOT. I can't even do that full-time. I can finish 1 book a day but I can't do that non-stop for a week. :P You are AWESOME! [lordwarwizard]

i do used to read a lot lot,(mylot) till 12-13, i still hav big bunch of it, i used to go to other states for my vacation so i used to buy 30-40 during a single trip. [kemadruma]
That's why it is no "fun" to lend books - but because the lender is selfish but many times, the borrower has no concept of "responsibility". :P [lordwarwizard]

I used to read comics when I was a kid, but then I switched to "real" books, when I realized how lacking comics are in substance. I know what you mean about people being so put off by reading. Strange, isn't it? [Sillychick]
One man's meat is another man's poison. :P [lordwarwizard]

I am a 47 year old women and use to love reading horror comics and collected over 400 of them. I became disabled and had to sell them over the internet to make some extra money. I had collected them for over 25 years and do miss my collection but it did help pay for extra things that I needed when I first became disabled. [kimlot]
Not bad, you managed to make a profit from selling comics. I am not good at appreciating the value of things enough to resell them for a profit. :( Good luck for your business! =) [lordwarwizard]

I do occassionally read comics but it's usually when I've read all the books in the house. How can anyone think books are boring? I used to read a lot of the ld Marvel comic when I was younger, I liked the stories but the adverts fascinated me. [nannacroc]
I find it hard to understand too. :P [lordwarwizard]

Hi my freind! I love to read comics. I am 19 and I think it is odd for me to say this. I used to read comics a lot when I was a child. I have come up from my childhood but still I enjoy reading comics. I dont read those 500 pags novels. I hate reading novels. I dont know how people read such lengthy novels. I get bored when I read such a long novel but I think its a perfect thing to do when you want to sleep and you are not feeling sleepy. Read a novel and you will sleep in less than ten minutes! I still remember, when I was a child I used to read comics a lot. When my mom used to take me with her on shopping, I used to buy atleast 10 to 15 comics each time I go with her. I used to read comics every night before sleeping. My favourate comic heroes were batman and superman. I had a huge collection of batman. My mom always used to say that I should concentrate more on my studies rather than reading those comics. I never listened to her. I still enjoy reading comics as it relaxes my mind and lowers my work stress and tensions. I know that its a little kiddish thing to read comics at this age but I do read it whenever I get a chance.......... [MUKUL_6907]
Hmm... this is what I think - that you have not found a genre of books that you like. Novels are not boring - I hate it when they finally finish. I will slow down and savor each word when the book is ending. And when I finally finish e.g. the trilogy (many books come in 3-volume series), it is like the world has ended. Not exactly so drastic but almost there. And sometimes when a book or series is so good, I can just think about it for days. [lordwarwizard]

oh yes... i do read comics... but not all comics... only selected ones... it is a good way of relaxing my mind as i can smile when i read comics... it is also an easy reading... not as serious as novel and does not require your brain to think... so i love it... [lingli_78]
There are some books that can make you smile too.:P [lordwarwizard]

I love to read but I have never had a desire to read comics. I tend to read historical novels and nonfiction books. [villageanne]
You sound like the no-nonsense type. :P [lordwarwizard]

My eyes are too bad , reading gives me a headache so I dont bother with it [keepermykitty]

Good day !dear friend. With what you said that I remember reading comics when I was very very young, but I am sorry to tell them all I have forgot the name about the comics that I read .I also can remember they are very interesting and the pictures are beautiful .But as I grow up the chances for me to read these books are little ,for I have to work ,to do other things which do not include reading comics .I still appreciate that I have read them once . [candytang]
The little treasures of old... or young. :P [lordwarwizard]

yes, i still read comics. Even at the age nearing 40's ,I still love Archies's, Snoopy, Calvin and Hobbes, Garfield and the vintage ones that we grew up on and read during weekends of the newpapers comice section. Whenever I feel bored and had nothing to do, I pick up old comic books to read, just for laugh. And relaxation. Sometimes I'll read comics instead of the news in the newspaper. When I was younger, I read the comic page the first before reading other stuff of the newspaper. I still keep a number of comic book collection. [foxygirle]
Well, if they bring you joy, keep on reading them! =) [lordwarwizard]

I love books.I devour books on anything and everything, and I LOVE comics, I read and draw them.Copy and create them. [pendragon]
Do you munch and swallow their spines as well? :P [lordwarwizard]

Yes I have damn same story..!! I am not at all a reader..!! But you know that only applies to big big novels..!! Other wise if the topic is on reading then..I have this very serious habbit of reading news paper every morning without a break right after I wake up....!! And I read loads of magazines I have loads of magazines around and yes don't forget the comics too....!! I love reading archies comics a lot I like humourous stories and that too in comic style....!! But when it comes to novels I really get stressed because then you have to swear to finish that first..!!! And I cannot stick to one thing more than an hour. So my vote goes to archies comics I find them best!! :) [stella1989]
The serious type. TOO serious. :P [lordwarwizard]

I love comics, hence my username. Anyway, comic books are my life. I am always reading "X-Men", "Fantastic Four", "Spider-Man", "Moon Knight"... you name it! Now, I read the comics in the paper as well, but they do not beat comic books, also known to many now as graphic novels thanks to Frank Miller. [rogue13xmen13]
If only we have their special powers as well! :P [lordwarwizard]

Hello lordwarwizard I was tempted to say that I haven't read any comic books in a couple of decades, but then I remembered that I have used comic books as tools when I have taught people how to read. In the pursuit of that activity, I have read some comic books. On the whole, though, I do not read them. I prefer books. [Transdisc]
Thank you for this information, Qaeyious! [Transdisc]

hi frnd.i love to read a lot..i do read novels n other books.i used to read comics a lot till i was in my school days bt now its not possible.rather i dnt find some gud ones, since m out my country.i used to read a lot of comics as a child.i do remember all my childhood frnds loved to read comics.i had a store room which was very clean empty.i asked my mum if all our frnds cud keep comics there n she agreed.finally we made a library of comics.all the frnds had kept their comics over there n anyone cud take one from there and read it.however he had to spend a few penny.at the ned of the month we wud count the money that we had deposited in the piggy bank,n then all of us used to go to the shop n buy some more of the comics.its was really fun.how say u ? [nkhanna]
Try Japanese comics. You may not be able to understand their language (do you?) but the pictures should be obvious. I understand they are among the best around. [lordwarwizard]

I do read comics....but mostly Japanese mangas translated ones [chunter]

Well,I feel reading Comics is a good way to relax and chill out -even if a person is 25 + or 40+ . But frankly speaking ,I have read very few comics in the last 10-12 years. When I used to be of 9-10 years of Age ;I used to read a lot of comics. Now,We do not have many on the Book Shelves. But I would still read a good comic If i get my hand on one. [ptrikha1]
Maybe it's time to rediscover your passion. =) [lordwarwizard]

Reading books is very important.first of all,it is knowledge that make society develop and by reading books you can learn more about the things.futhermore ,reading books can make you a qualified person ,make you more excellent. [dsy1983921]
Yup, they bring us knowledge. =) [lordwarwizard]

LOL You aptly describe who I am. *Quote* "books are hideous monsters that sap the life energy of anyone who dares to approach them. You can hear "I don't like to read!"... "It's boring!"... "It makes me sleep!"... blah blah." *End of quote* Reading is one of the methods I've been using to cure my insonmia. LOL It used to work pretty well but have not been working very recently. I do not proclaim myself to be a comic reader. I would not deliberately flip to the comics page on the Straits Time to read the comics. If I so happen to come across one, I'll read it. If not, I am fine doing without it. I prefer watching cartoons and animes to reading comics. You get to see moving pictures in cartoons and animes. =D [poohgal]
I can't believe this. Siao! :P [lordwarwizard]

Reading books is a good habit, my spare time 80% is on reading books. comics is one kind of the book , when i was fourteen years old ,I like the comics very much. In that time I like the comics which from Japan, and like the comics played by America. It's a very good memory [dsy1983921]
So I guess you might have switched to books now that you are older.:) [lordwarwizard]

I will occasionally read a comic strip depending on the type..but I will not read a comic book, something about the artwork gives me a nauseas headache, maybe they are just too busy and colorful. when I was a kid I used to like the archie digest comics. my husband however has a large inventory of old comic books [Modestah]
Hehe, I thought they are supposed to be pretty. :P [lordwarwizard]

no , i dont think so ! i always read books but not comics,i think books bring us so many things thay can't be brought by any other things.that's why they still exist i this Modern society and not be taken place by computers,or ```` i love books ,and i think books will bring me strong mind and energy! [kittypinky]
That reminds me of ebooks which I scoff when I think about real books.:P [lordwarwizard]

I love to read... but I'm not really into comics. I do read a couple comics online each day on my yahoo page, but that's it. I've never gotten into the comic books before, not even as a kid. But give me a good romance novel and I'm hooked! lol! [Bev1986]
Lol.. romantic bud. :P [lordwarwizard]

heck yeah... I love to read comics. I do read the occasional novel once in a while though. As long as the title is able to entice me, I will most likely to read it. Now a days with a busy schedule, reading so many things in the office, sitting down to read a novel is the last thing I want to do. But I do love comics when I was much younger and had more time during the school holidays to read them. I enjoy both english and chinese comics. They really offer a great variety of escapes. Each time I pick up a book, be it a comic or a novel, I get so immersed in them that I actually can 'live' in the world that the book or comic I am reading in. Some of my favorite titles that I can remember are: RoboCop DeathLok Green Lantern Knight Rider Punisher Spiderman Tek World Terminator Fathom WitchBlade Archie Tao Ultraman Master Q Chronicles of Wong Fei Hong Teenage Wong Fei Hong Gen13 Case files of Bao Ching Tien Transformers There are many many more... I just cannot remember all the names off hand! ;p [ahgong]
Wow wow wow, you comic lover! Btw, you know the national library at bugis got one quite impressive comic section right? Can read. Not sure can borrow or not, but guess can seem it is in the central lending library downstairs. [lordwarwizard]

I used to read comics when i was younger, our neighbor used to rent lots of local comics and I have this issue that I read on every week. But I guess it has died a natural death coz I dont see those comics for rent anymore. And even saw once sold in bookstores, the comics like spider man and the like costs so much and I can only afford to glance from afar. [Zelmarq]
Yea, the popularity has waned somewhat... [lordwarwizard]

I will be 50 next month, and I do buy comic books regularly. But I am not a Marvel fan, I find super-hero works, - uninteresting I guess is the best way to put it. My current main-stream favorite is Hikaru No Go, that has an episode or two published monthly in Shonen Jump. It is about Hikaru, a 12-year-old boy that became possessed by a centuries-old spirit of a Go player, and he eventually developed enough interest that as of last month, he is going to be a professional Go player by the time he leaves school (I think he is 14 now, in the story) But mostly I buy independent works, away from the super-hero mainstream stuff, that I have absolutely no interest at all. One example is "Mouse Guard" by David Petersen, published by Archaia Studios Press (www.aspcomics.com) No special powers, just mice with spears and swords, overcoming the treachery of those seeking power over every other Mouse in the land. [Qaeyious]
I guess I might be more interested if they have themes I like.=) [lordwarwizard]

I don't read comics...I read graphic novels. Ha! If it's got pictures and word balloons, it's a comic. I love comic book art. I love the classic comic book art -- Jack Kirby, the Buscema brothers (Sal and John). I'll peruse the comic book rack at Barnes and Noble. Lately I'll get the special edition comics. I have the Superman vs. Doomsday set. I have Frank Miller's seven Sin City issues. Those are an interesting read. I loved the movie by the way. I don't like though, what they're doing to comics today. I want my art to be as realistic and anatomically correct as possible. I don't like the way they're Drawing Superman lately. Too cartoonish -- yes, I know they're all cartoons basically. I love the way they've remade Batman. I'm glad they brought Captain America back -- he was only dead for six months. And I love it that movie technology makes it possible for Superman to righteously fly. Though the last few comics movies have kind of flopped. It's time to be done with Spider-Man. Same with Fantastic Four. The Batman Begins movie was good and this new one out with Heath Ledger as the Joker looks to be better even. I have a collection of comics even from when I was a kid. I've got the first new X-Men where they introduce Wolverine. That one is worth about $300 the last time I checked. I've got the first 10 or so issues of when they reinvented Superman. So yes, to answer your question in a drawn out way: Yes, I read comics. I love them. Nothing like seeing that Superman S in glossy. [ORyansBelt2012]
LOL... I like Captain Planet. Is he a comic as well? :P [lordwarwizard]

i loveee to read books. i can say, i'm crazy about reading books. i wonder how people find it boring about books!? i read all kinds of books. right from novels, comics to philosophy, biographies. however comics are my favourites. because i started to read only with comics. even today i continue to read comics. comics are something which tries to relieve tension ans eases out the day. [cuterose]
Wow, quite a varied interest.:P [lordwarwizard]

i did. my cousins were aivd buyers of local comics like Aliwan, Hiwaga, and many others i can't remember. i personally loved the horror comics because i like reading about monsters and "aswangs". LOL but my favorite comics was a kid's comics titled "Funny". i never fail to buy it every week after mass. i just love all that's in there especially the part where kid's drawings are published. yep. i sent my drawing once and it was accepted! ^__^ too bad though because i wasn't able to get a copy of that issue. and i just learned about it when someone wrote me and he said he saw my drawing in that comics. we became penpals then. ^__^ [secretbear]
I think you will like books in the horror genre as well.=) [lordwarwizard]

Why, comics are fun to read! Did you know that i learned how to read (literally "read") because of comic books? lol. When i was a little kid aged about 4-5 years old, my older brother used to rent comic books at a nearby store and bring the books home. I also get hold of the comics while enjoying myself by looking /scanning through the pages. I found the pages so colorful and exciting because they are full of images and drawings and actions.. Later on, my brother taught me to read the words little by little so that i would understand what's going on with the characters. As time passed by, i already found myself reading comic books and knowing stories about superman or spiderman, and other. lolz. [livvy092002]
Well, at least comics did you some good then! :P [lordwarwizard]

I like reading comics. Actually, in a newspaper, it is one of the first sections that I take a look at. My favorite comics is Archie. [MariaD]

I am not avid reader of Comics, but I read comics and sometimes it is a relief.I am on book readers' side, of course. Among other things, the most positive thing about it that someone is not feeding you imagination. You can by yourself construct imagination in your own way. [4him8bhu]
Yup, in a way, it does helps your imagination grow. [lordwarwizard]

I read comics but usually the really short ones. [spiderlizard22]

I read. I read books, comics, newspapers, magazines, online and even packaging if I can't find anything else to read!I like graphic novels, sometimes more than regular novels if the art is good and the plot also good. I have a graphic novel of an alternate Wonder Woman that I have really enjoyed. But my roomie's vision problem makes graphic novels not something she enjoys while she does read books, preferable large print. I gotta say, large print is becoming attractive to me too.... [ElicBxn]
Quite a reader, aren't you? :P [lordwarwizard]

yes I read a lot of comics when i was a kid. maybe its beacuse of the drawing there that made me a lot more intersted. But right now, i rarely find good comics that caught my interest and attention. So right now, I prefer to read novels instead because the story is long and more exciting and romantic to read. [lucky_witch]

i really don' reading comics. if i hate reading books i hate reading comics more. though i really hate to read books i really try to read when i konw that i will be ablel to laern something from the book i am going to read. as long as the book is educational and will give me so much knowledge i will read that book. but it will just another novel or fiction books i will not really waste my time. i want to read some books that will really help me in my daily life. books like how-to's books are really good for me. i like to learn how to repair my home, how to learn some new skills and any books that will reall give me more knowledge how toearn some money and to improve my personality. if that book is just to arouse my imagination, i will not waste my time and i will not really buy that book. i will just want some books that will make me able to learn some things about life. about the beautiful places in other world, about books about earning through blogs, are what i really like. you can see though i hate to read books i will make an effort and i will be happy if that book is realloy educational and helpful for me. no matter how hard to read that book, as long as i can able to understand it i will make an effort to read that book adn to finish that book as soon as i can. but now i really don't like to buy those how-to's books since it 's really hard to follow them. i will just have to buy those books that i can easily follow. sometimes i read some pocketbooks when it is really entertaining, but it rarely happens that i will like to read apocket book. i really hate love stories. i rather watch love stories on the big screen rather than reading them. there are so many pocket books in my home bought my siblins. i really don't like reading them. it's really boring. though teen agers like reading love stories, i really hate those books when i was still a teen-ager. i will just put that thing in one corner and will not look at it. sometimes i will rather read some dictionary and some thesaurus and other books of that kind and see and read soem words that i could memorize and add to my words that i can use one day. i really have to memorize more words so that i will be able to express my self in english. but my problem mostly is my grammar and not really my lack of knowledge of words in english. i pretty well know a lot of words in english. thankfully because i put some effort when i was still a student in reading english books that i can communicate some how in english. [ivandcruz]
Looks like you are a very practical person! :P [lordwarwizard]

nothing interesting on this, I have to disappoint you on this one. When I grew up comics were "forbidden" but real books allowed at any time. I was encouraged to go to the library bus and every Friday you could see me go for another 5 more books. I had read 2 of them minimum by Sunday night.... [book1962]

Actually I love to read, but I don't read comic books or look at them really a few of my nephews a few years ago or the comics in the paper occasionally But I would rather have a big thick nice book that I can sink my teeth into. I think I would go crazy if I couldn't read. [mtdewgurl74]

I do read comic books! Specially MARVEL COMICS ones! [ebtenorio]

I am this old and still love to read and collect Batman's comics I read Superman as well but Batman has been always my favourite. [deadraven999]

My husband use to love reading comics esepcially the superheroes one umm Justice League. He had tons and tons of comics stacked under his bed. When we moved overseas he gave them all away. My son has a few of them already and I wouldn't be surprised if he starts to collect them as well. [maddysmommy]
Like father, like son, eh? :P [lordwarwizard]

You know, I haven't read a comic book in years! I remember my parents buying 'Archie' comics for me when I was a pre-teen. Comics are an excellent medium by which to encourage resistent kids to read! There are so many choices and are quite entertaining! [crazynurse]
Oh yea, I remember Archie too, hehe. [lordwarwizard]

I love books hehe… Anyway, I do read comics too and sometimes buy those kiddie comic books in the grocery counter. :) Like W.I.T.C.H., Archie, PUgad Baboy (local comic), and I read comic section in a local newspaper. Sometimes I save black and white comic from somewhere and use Paint to color it. :) [MGjhaud]
I guess maybe it is ok for them to have "comic relief" sometimes. :P [lordwarwizard]

I love to read like novels, newpapers, eduactional books.. but not comics. i dont like comics. i think comics are only for kids.. [bing_r77]

when i was a kid i was very found of reading some hindi comics but at present i dont.... [ankitmalviya]

I don't read comics. I was never interested in them when I was younger. I tried to get into them because they were cool, but I decided they were boring and I wanted nothing to do with them. I find comic books silly and see them as something 'geeks' are interested in. I mean really, haven't you grown out of picture books by now? [highflyingxangel]

when there's something like mylot and other forums who would get the time to read comics and comics were there for us to while the time when we were bored. even now i still take time to read a few of them. they are better at times when i'am exhaused surfing the net and need some change [cyfernet]

i read books...but i am not a bookworm... i love reading comics the more..i used to be an avid reader of comics back home..i borrow comics from friends or buy some..but now, i still don't know where to get things in this country where i'm in... i remember when i was a kid, i don't have enough money to buy comics...the allowance my mom gave me won't be enough for me to buy one...so i just rent some comics because that's all that i can afford...and i can sit all day reading comics... [eden_shii]
But you usually finish comics quite quickly.. would be a waste if you spend money to buy them.:P [lordwarwizard]

LOL! Nice Discussion. I neither read comics nor novels. I don't read comics because I love watching cartoons instead. And novels are boring and too long for me. But I do love reading health, nutrition, Beauty and fashion related magazines. [shedii]

I can honestly say that I don't read comics. I am onle of those people who is always happy with my nose buried in a book. I love to read, and really should try to pare down my book collection a little before it threatens to swamp my room. However, I did find that by letting my son read comics he was able to learn to read quickly and with evident enjoyment, and I guess comics do have a place for a lot of people. With literacy rates plumeting like stones around the world, comics do at least help people to read even if there are only a couple of lines of text or even the occasional *POW* or *SPLAT* - LOL [recycledgoth]
Yea, I am always with a book too. [lordwarwizard]

Yes I used to read a lot of comics when I was in School, in vacation I bought and also share many comics of my interest with my friends. But nowadays I do not read comics anymore as I have very less time to do so [dio123]

I can reqad anything-serious stuff, comics, romance novels anything that I can lay my hands on. When I get engrossed in a book then thats it. Infact my whole family reads, even my one and a half year old daughter pretends to read with us. I like tintin, astrix, Archies. I love all the books, I wish I was a librarian and could spend my whole day reading something or the other.Have a look at our photograph I am missing as I was clicking this but you can see how well read this family is.lol [mansha]
Pretends. Hehe:P [lordwarwizard]

I used to read novels earliers. Not into too much comics But i used to read novels, short stories. But now to be honest i don't read at all. [rb200406]

absolutely :) although,my brother has me beat by a longshot. he's got a fleet of the white Storage boxes that would put most comic stores to shame. i prefer the compendiums nowadays..something satisfying about an gigantic hardcover "bat-book" [scarlet_woman]

I read comic books before. When I was younger that is. I am fund of reading comic books especially from marvel comics. I even buy one even if it costs a lot. [jarves]

Wow, you got a lot of responses from this topic! Well to add to the many comments, I'm really into the Asian comics (manga). I really like Nana, Genshiken, a lot of comics with in the Shojo Beat comic books. I think it's funny how people think of comic book readers. I am a fashion major so my friends are really shock when they find my collection of Manga books. [mishastar]
Yup. Many of the best comics are from Japan (or so I was told :P). [lordwarwizard]

I do like books with pictures, but I don't like comics...I like reading manga, though. [megumiart]

The only comics that I've read in my life were some Simpson comics and a few Batman comics. I liked the Batman comics, they had good amounts of blood and Batman was always running around fighting Joker and Two-Face. Good times.:P [blademaiden]

S i love comics and mostly i ll read TINKLE and also some on net ,,,,all my friends tease me but tooo i love it [manigandan18]
As long as you like it, anything goes.:) [lordwarwizard]

Yes, but this is the German comics from my relatives and friends in Berlin. They are about the Holicaust and War Comis of WWII and the aftermath..it seemed to be a very big thing for the youth to read these "historic" comics as they were verbotten (forbidden) for a long time..but the French started this trend..and years ago I read these in high school and college as they were on the "classics" because I did not have time to read the "classics" and had to read it to pass a test..but later I read most of them...I liked "To Catch a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee and the library still has this for the reading club..this was the only book that Harper Lee wrote..same as the author of "Gone With the Wind" Martha Mitchell? well one book..that was it..and no sequell that mattered..and no sequell to the movies either..good thing too..sequells mostly are bad..but there is always the exception. thanx [asawako48162]

i read comics wen ever i get my hands on one.. [jsharriz]

I haven't read an actual comic book in YEARS. I used to love those "Archie Digest" books, and would get them in my xmas stockings from Santa. What I do have, well, a friend has it right now, is a "Graphic Novel" from "Heroes" season 1. I call it a "hard cover comic book", because essentially, that's what it is. My sons are at ages now that they are forming a growing interest in comic books, and as long as I can find some that aren't too graphic and gross, I will start getting them for them for special occasions and treats. [CanadaGal]
Those graphics can be quite a treat for the eyes.:) [lordwarwizard]

I used to read comics when I was younger - anything would do but my mother wasn't really a fan of them AT ALL... so I had to do with whatever someone threw away or handed down to me, usually at school. They ended up being all the girlie comics, some of the stories I didn't mind but others....aaargh. I used to look at my cousins' 'MAD' magazines and took some home but I had to wait a while before I acutally understood those and then laugh at them, they were funny. Now I don't read anything other than books! [wickedangel]
For me, I just feel it seems more intellectual to read books as opposed to comics lol.:P [lordwarwizard]

yes i do read comis books and the Ranges are just uncountable...it goes from every variety..chacha chaudhary to superman and nagraj to fairy tales...:) [re2809]

Dear friend,I do had a collection more than 800 comics during my school days I used to read mostly Phantom, Mandrake, Superman, Tintin, Archies, so on. Among them I liked the local comic book called "Boban & Mole" it is comedy comic on the current affairs mainly in our India related to politics and social aspects. Later when I had to stay away from home I gave all these books to one local library. [SHAMRACK]
Wow, that's quite a bit. [lordwarwizard]

Hi lord. I was always a back bencher in college & i remember hiding the comics in my books & reading them during the lecture. I used to read archies a lot. i still love reading archies. apart from dat i also like to read tintin & some other indian comics like tinkle & readers digest [itsmepinky]

i'm more fond of reading novels than comics. i don't even know if i've read comics before. maybe if i did, it'll be those from the newspapers. you know.. from the entertainment sections of the newspapers? [haleybee]
Yup, I read those too. [lordwarwizard]

LOL no reading books doesn't make me angry! neither does book reader's. but yeah i like comics i think i am more interested in them because we have some very old and rare comics in our family so i have seen how much some of these things can be worth and know what ones too look out for which is a must. I like older comic but still try to pickup all the first editions i see, young or old. [dont_pick_your_nose]
Read! Read! Read! rasp [lordwarwizard]
