Something similar also happen to me. I find it very hard to finish reading a book. Every time,I will either lose my concentration or there are interruptions that stop me from reading. I have to purposely set time for me to finish off a book. Maybe we should change our habit and try to arrange time for us just for reading. I think this can help. [yenwie84]
i agree with you that i think thats what i am going to have to do also, its so hard for me to read now a days...thanks for the suggestion and thanks for replying to my discussion! [jhl930]

I read alot and sometimes once in awhile for hours on end and pass out in the chair and not know it many of times. [StarChild517]

If I couldn't have at least some time every day for reading, I'd be totally lost! I don't mean the stuff I have to read -- my students' essays and such. I've gotten into thrillers lately. If I can't squeeze in a bit of reading before starting my first period class, I skip luch and hang out on the back steps of the school so I can read. It's as important as air or water! [cobrateacher]

I find the best time to read is in bed at night - that way, you don't get interrupted. Trouble is, like you I usually fall asleep before I've read much! In the daytime I find it easier to read newspapers, magazines or short stories - then you can pick them up and put them down again if something else comes up. [guybrush]

I love, love to read. Unfortunately I do not get to read as often as I used to or that I would like. I too usually read in bed and lately have been like you so tired that I can only read about 10-20 pages and then I am out. Hopefully I can start to read more in the future. PS My kids think that I am crazy that I like to read books. I keep saying that they are not my children!! [Virgie60]

I am ADDICTED to books - almost all kinds, except for most nonfiction. I read almost everyday, but like many of you, I have to do it at night. The kids and my husband are all in bed and it's just me and my book of the moment - sometimes I'm tired and only read a chapter or two, and other nights I'm so engrossed I end up not going to sleep until hours after I meant to! But it's usually worth it. [youngsweetheart]

I love to read and do it everyday. I have my recliner sitting next to the front window and there is a bookcase next to my recliner. That is the place I put my drink and snack when I am reading. I am a long time reader and love this pass time. There is a library right around the corner from my house. So I don't buy books but borrow them from the library. [sunshinelady]

I love to sit down with a good book and read; problem is I just don't have the time to do it anymore. Everytime I seem to find the time, I get interrupted constantly by my kids, the phone, doorbell, etc. I try to keep a book on my nightstand, but after a couple of pages, I get sleepy as well. I decided to find a way, and I registered on a website called dailylit.com. There you can get chapters of books e-mailed to you on a regular basis and they take about 5-10 minutes to read. I have read some the classics, which I'm sure my kids will have to start reading when school starts. It's a great way to at least make an effort to do what I love without taking too much time. Have a great one! [di1159]

I read often my books on magic tricks and more often than not after understanding how a trick works I just get on and practice that trick and leave the book on the chair or table. I think it's normal for that thing to happen because when we read we are dictated too by our mood. [magojordan]

I used to read all the time, and it was not uncommon for me to pick up a book and not put it down until I was finished, but I have not done that lately simply because Life happens and stuff happens. I have not done that lately because I have not found any books that I can really get into. Reading does not tend to put me to sleep [Wandress]

I read a lot. More often than not, I never put down a book until I finish it. Yes, I'm that crazy about books, especially if it's written by my favorite authors and even if its not, I seldom put down a mystery-thriller book. I think reading is just in my blood. There are even times that I put down a book because I'm having eye strain already and decided to finish it the next day. But then my mind will go back to the story and I'll start wondering what would happen next, so after a few minutes of closing and relaxing my eyes, I read again. Shucks! You'll think I'm such a book-addict! :) Good day and God bless.... [maple_kisses]

I am not a regular reader. But if start reading a novel then i will finish it. I love to find the end of that novel. I will select the novel in such a way that its content should be of my interest. [k4karthik]

Only every once in a while. I will go weeks with nothing, find a good book, and then sit down for hours and read the whole thing. I just need a good book. [danrunsfast614]

I get this problem as well. I notice that a lot of things, especially the internet, can be extremely distracting for me. These days I find it's a lot easier to simply go to the library and read there, as there are no distractions. If I sit at home, something will inevitably come up, from tasks like taking out the trash to washing dishes. However, if the book is interesting, it does manage to hold my interest even despite these distractions. If the book's premise seems interesting but it takes many boring bits to get to the interesting, then I'd be more tempted by distraction. [movicont]

I love to read and am reading all the time that I can. I am reading 2 different books right now, which I never do. I also have a magazine that I have started. I also try to read the newspaper everyday, but if I don't get to it I will read 2 or 3 in a day, since I get it delivered every day. [idowrite72]

Right now I really don't have time for reading, but when I come across a book that's so interesting I'd stop doing things and just read. It's kind of relaxing sometimes. And most of the time I fall asleep by doing so. [ishralene09]

If I start a book especially if it's my favorite author, Robert Ludlum, or a readers digest, I find it hard to stand up or do other things. I can even forego dinner sometimes. There are times I tell them at home to just ignore me for a while because I'll be reading. There would be times when I'm out of focus that when I just started to hold the book then I thought about something that should be done. I end up not reading at all. [jenalforque]

I do but not with a hard copy. I usually read e-books and other stuff online. As I am always online everyday, I often manage to read books online as well. It's more convenient for me that way than do nothing in my spare time. [nengs10]

Yes I do, but just like you, I often found myself reading through one material but not getting to finish it because of some priority concerns I need to attend to. But I always see to it that I get back to finish the reading material at some point, even if it takes weeks or months. I guess that happens to all of us, even among voracious readers like you or me. [baruchaba]

Reading makes me very sleepy too,but these days since hubby is home now im finding that its very hard to find time to fit it all in,by the time we have done whatever we have to do,and then we have lunch, then I usually spend time on Mylot, there is little left of the day!I think that I will have to put in a request that maybe we could have another few hours added to the day! [ruby222]

Yup, it happens all the time. It's very seldom, that I can spend like 2-3 hours at one go, to read a book. However it's okay, because I'm able to pick up from where I started. The very few times that I'm able to read almost half a book at one go, was when I was reading Da Vinci Code. I started before my bedtime (usually 12midnight), and was so engrossed in it, that I read till past 3 am. I had to force myself to stop, else I would not be able to wake up for work! [lazeebee]

Thats because we lack concenteration.Either the book is not interesting or our mind is occupied with something else which doesn't allow us to concenterate.when our minds are free from other thoughts we feel like reading something interesting [sumiirajj]

you know i read a book of Robbie Williams now recently i just read the book till Chapter nine and didnt feel like continuing the book. [Ronald84]

I am reading all of the time, when I am reading all of the discussion here on Mylot, and then I read the news online, I am always reading on the internet, that takes care of my reading. [notlistening2]

I used to read a lot and when I first was learning to program I would read 100 pages of programming and other related books. These days I read only from the monitor which is such a blessing because e-books are all over the place.Gone are the days when I would be reading books. There is so much to read on the Internet. [underdogtoo]

I read a book EVERYDAY. Reading is amazing for you mind, and to continue learning throughout your life. [mrtech]

Personally i dont read much because i don't have the time, i'm always out or busy doing something and when i do get the time something will come up or i am to exhusted to read and just the though of it would make me sleepy. [bexluvsyou]

Yes! I read every day. The first thing in the day, I like reading the Bible. I usually have two books that I'm reading besides that - one fiction and one non-fiction - and I'll take turns reading them. If the books are good, I'll have them read in a day or two or three at the most - just reading a bit here and there throughout the day. If I don't have books to read, I have to read something - cereal boxes, catalogs, SOMETHING! [kenzie45230]

It's been ages since I read my last book. The internet is one of the reason I don't get to read books anymore, beside having a daughter, a job, house keeping and all of that. I love to read and I'd really like to find something to read again. I mostly read comic books now, but it's still reading isn't it? And I also like to read something in the internet, news, interesting tips and all. Happy mylotting and have a nice day!! [ucancallmedissy]

I did not read very often. I will read only when I realy feel free and bored. I just read some Chinese books only, like the history of China. [meiyeec511]

I love reading, I did my degree in English because I enjoy reading so much. The only problem I found was whilst I was doing my degree I didn't have time to read, as well as that because I had certain books I had to read for my course I stopped associating reading with pleasure and it almost became a chore for me. Now I read all the time, I find the best time is on the bus on the way to work in the morning or in my lunch break at work. If I'm reading a book I enjoy I read it every single day, but if I'm not enjoying it I find I can go for days without even looking at it. [no1lisalisa]

I like reading very much, but i like to read what i like only. I can sit or lay in bed reading books for hours. But when i read what i don't like such as textbook i will be impatient, but i can force myself continue to read if it important. When i have a PC, the reading time decrease a lot. [lixiaos77]

i try and read little every night and right now i am reading a book about new york city and the history of it. i seldom read fiction because i would much rather read historical stuff. [cher913]

I read alot more then i really tend to notice because i read alot online and i also ready really popular books that i like like harry potter lord of the rights and i like Anime so i read alot of manga comics so i do get alot of ready done usual i am ready while i am waiting for supper to cook at the same time its hard to ready at night or yeah you can fall asleep like you said or maybe its cause your just really not all that into the book you are ready. [wadeys]

Ive often experienced the same things. I think I am more patient about it now that I am older. I read any time I can steal a moment by myself. It doesn't matter if I take three weeks or a couple of months to read a book. I try not to get frustrated. I just enjoy it while I am doing it. As a result, it seems like I have found more and more of these precious moments to read. I have read more books this year than I have in about 5 years. [cbreeze]

I always read Romance of 3 Kingdoms in the weekend...There is doubt It helps me a lot. It teaches mehow to deal with thr relationship between our friends! at the sametime,It also provides some good methods to earn more money if you pay attention to reaserch. A goog book is a best friends who never turns his back upon us ,is n't it? [bettermanly]

Yeah, I read pretty much on my cottage but when it's not a holiday, I simply don't have the time. And when I would have the time I decide to open my computer instead of reading... Maybe that's a bad habit I should get rid of... [lronMaiden]

I like to read also, I mostly do my reading during the winter, when its cold outside and theres nothing else to do but stay in the house where its warm and cuddle up on the couch and read a good book. I read some during the summer too, I like to read when I go to bed, sometimes I have a hard time falling asleep and if I read it will make me sleepy. Sometimes I'll read sitting in the living room and I will get sleepy and when my husband comes home, I'll wake up and he'll ask me have you been reading? I'll say why, he'll say because it looks like you've been asleep...lol [walijo2008]

I think reading is a good habit. There is always some books in my bags, and I can read in any spare time in anywhere. [nayiying]
