responses and comments:
I use an online dictionary more than a book. I use m-w.com all the time. Mirriam Websters online sight. I can't remember the last word I looked up, but one of the last words was macerate: (I spelled it maserate) as I was unsure of the spelling, nothing came up but one the meanings of the word is: >2: to cause to become soft or separated into constituent elements by or as if by steeping in fluid; broadly : steep, soak< Taken from m-w.com Mooch [oneandonemakesix]
hey oceandonemakesix Like you I also use on line dictionary, in addition to that I am also using Webster dictionary. On line dictionary is very convenient. I have heard from my friend that www.m-w.com is also good online dictionary. pkc3000 [pkc3000]
I use dictionaries, but I have found that looking through a thesarus is also interesting [justthegratefuldead]
Hi friend, you are using thesaurus.really nice.each of us using different one. Thanks for your response. Keep in touch:-) [ajesh_pullad]
I dont use a dictionary much cos the words i use aint in it lol. The last word i searched was twaddle,it was for an idea for a new forum. [pammid]
Thank you Pammid, have a nice day:-) [ajesh_pullad]
I also totally use dictionary. I can't move on forward whenever I find something new or something that I can't understand. And I think it is one of the good habit while reading. We always have to be clear about the things that we study. My dad also used to say the same thing. In fact, he is the one who got me into dictionaries. Nowadays, I use computer dictionaries. It's quite more easy and less tiem consuming. [diillu]
Hi diillu, im very curious about new words.i always tried to understand that word.your habit is pretty good.keep on reading new words and those you dont.just in some day you can throw away your dictionary. Thanks for your response. Happy Myloting:-) [ajesh_pullad]
Hello there. Nowadays, if I come across a new word, I'll usually google that word and find the definition from the internet. I do have a Longman dictionary at home but it's hidden somewhere and I am lazy to find it. =P I cannot recall the last word I have searched. It's been a long while since I was checked the dictionary. [poohgal]
Hi poohgal, its good for your language searching words.it helped too much.i always kept one dictionary in my study table and one in my bed.in my computer there are wordweb, brittannica, oxford.no i have too interest in this.but for instant searching it is required. thanks for your response. Happy Myloting:-) [ajesh_pullad]
I love using the dictionary. Let's see the last word I looked up was....I don't remember LOL....Lori [dumblnddzzy]
Hi lori, last word you cant remember..?.?thats not true :-D thanks for your response. Happy Myloting:-) [ajesh_pullad]
Usually, I will just use the online dictionaries if I need to check up a word. It is fast, easy and simple. But from time to time, I need to confirm the "absolute" meaning of a word. Then I will refer to book dictionary. =) [lordwarwizard]
Hi lordwarwizard, i always prefer book dictionary.if the word is hard to remember, ill scribble it in anywhere.absolutely when a words seen it two or three times we get that word thoroughly. thanks for your response. Happy Myloting:-) [ajesh_pullad]
Hi & Hello, ajesh. In my office, yes. I used it for my reference on doing or preparing special report or any of my principal's document material. At home I do not have any of it. And mine is for The Cassell Compact Dictionary 6"(W) X 8"(L) X 2"(H) with hard cover and ISBN 0-304-35006-0. Cassell, Wellington House, 125 Strand, London WC2R OBB. Printed and bound in Great Britain by Mackays of Chatham PLC, Kent. HAPPY DAPPY. [goodsign]
Thank you my friend. Take care :-) [ajesh_pullad]
I have always been an excellent speller, but lately I've been having a bit of trouble being sure I'm right... senior moments, possibly?? Probably..... [alamode]
Hi alamode, I think you had the habit my using it. thanks for your response. Happy Myloting:-) [ajesh_pullad]
I always use dictionary. The last word? hmmm, i dont remember at all [evilbetox]
Hi evilbetox, didnt tell its name..? thanks for your response. Happy Myloting:-) [ajesh_pullad]
To be frank i rarely have the habit.i am so lazy that even if i have a doubt regarding the word i let my doubt remain and ask one of my friends.i never bother to look in dictionary.i know its really bad to not even look into the oxford dictionary that i have at home.but what to do,certain things never change. [varunkrishna007]
Hi varun, its a real good habit.that can help you alot.and i used to have the habit of jotting down of new words in book.and when i read a book some new words definitly i get, that i always note down.it can enhance our vocabulary.so use your dictionary. thanks for your response. Happy Myloting:-) [ajesh_pullad]
I rarely use dictionary and thats the reason why i have a very poor vocab. There are times when i refer online dictionary but thats also very rare and honestly speaking i don't have a dictionary in my room. My dad use to refer dictionary a lot and even my sister my but i don't and they always scold me when i use improper words saying that i should refer to dictionary at times. Anyway today i learnt a new word 'a la mode'. [healer]
Thanks for responding healer. Happy Myloting :-) [ajesh_pullad]
hello ajesh_pullad i thought that "a la mode" meant like a slice of apple pie with a scoop of ice cream on top of it. lol. :0 "With ice cream" is the often used yet erroneous translation of this French term. The correct translation simply means "in the current syle/fashion" or literally, "in the manner of fashion". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%80_la_mode maybe the word "a la mode" has more than one meaning to it. have a beautiful day! [RLFinNash]
your very welcome. [RLFinNash]
yes...... every time i heard a new word i'll always look at the dictionary,so that i can know what does it mean or what it is. [reanicah2007]
Hi reanicah, Its a good habit.it can really enhance our vocabulary. thanks for your response. Keep in touch:-) [ajesh_pullad]
I use the dictionary to find what words mean or to learn how to spell a word. [spiderlizard22]
Hi spiderlizard, it can also help in good 'pronunciation'*. When i first type this very letter i made one mistake.Pronoun(verb) when it comes noun letter 'o' become absent. thanks for your response. Happy Myloting.keep in touch:-) [ajesh_pullad]
i have a close friend who is like you.. i consider her Merriam's bestfriend and perhaps Webster's ex :-) LOL she even smell the pages? i don't she just simply love to smell the pages. do you do that too? [bong_domingo]
Hi bong, what i strange response i liked it :-)yes i like the smell of new pages.yes i do. thanks for your response. Keep in touch:-) [ajesh_pullad]
I always use dictionary..!! When A word strikes up whose meaning is unknown to me..I get damn curious to know its meaning..!! Its like a need to know the meaning..!! I always refer to dictinary!! Usually oxford dictionarys they are good. An when working online I use merriam-webster.com to fine the the meaning of words which comes across. :) [stella1989]
Hi stella, its my enthusiasm to catch the meaning of new word.this is more happens when reading a novel or fiction.in my opinion that the same author will repeat the words surely.so ill always pen down when i see a new word at once.so always kept one beside me. So dont leave your curiosity.it makes you richer. thanks for your response. Happy Myloting.Keep in touch:-) [ajesh_pullad]
When I was a student, I liked using dictionary. I still have some dictionaries at home. I seldom look up the dictionary now, and usually I will look for the words via the net because it is fast. However, I still think looking up the traditional dictionary is the best way to learn a foreign language. [youless]
Hi youless, i think it is needed not only in childhood but it must read in our lifetime.words are the strength of human.to learn more words has its advantages.i always try to learn new words. Last week i got a new word.Auto-dentist nice word. thanks for your response. Happy Myloting.keep in touch:-) [ajesh_pullad]
I like to read a lot and come reading time my webster's new world dictionary is always beside me. It has been my habit to list down the words and its meanings so i can go back reading it during my free time. I have a special notebook for those words that i wrote down. The last article that i've read says "sequoia" is the only word with complete vowels in it. Using my dictionary it means a kind of tree considered as redwood. [irene_27]
Hi irene, Good response my friend.yes i also love to list new words and its meaning.then to remember them i copied it to my diary. No i dont think so, that its the only word.i know a word its a common word which contains all five towels each used once and an their alphabetical order.'Facetious'it means humorous or witty.you teach me a new word.'sequoia' means a tall tree in north America type of redwood.this type of responses i expected. thanks for your great response. Happy Myloting.Keep in touch:-) [ajesh_pullad]
i have noticed that i used dictionaries more earlier. Now i don't use it most of the time. If i need to know anything i can very easily refer to the internet. So it has reduced a bit. [subha12]
Hi subha, i prefer book dictionary.i have software of some dictionary, rarely it uses.i cant be always online. Happy MyLoting. One more post 2222 :-) [ajesh_pullad]

Hi larskie, searching in MS Word for synonyms.it has a wide collection of vocabulary is very helpful to us.all i prefer is book dictionary.one always kept beside my bed and other in my study table. thanks for your response.keep in touch. Happy Myloting:-) [ajesh_pullad]
I cannot live without a dictionary. I have to have one. Since I am a writer and editor, I am always in front my system, either writing or editing. I cannot keep opening a heavy dictionary all the time. So, I have downloaded a dictionary software called 'worldweb'. I simply have to select any word I want to look up--from any application--double click on the worldweb icon in my system tray and the meanings pop up, along with synonyms, antonyms, and so on and so forth. Last I checked a very simple word 'almost'. I knew what it means and I have used it in the past, but I just wanted to be sure. :) :) [positiveminded1977]
Hi positivemind, you are a writer and editor.thats really nice.i love writers.i just want to know are you in press or any media? wordweb i know.i have that in my computer.its really good. ALT+CTRL+W is its shortcut.we can even add word is an advantage.also speciality is, it can use in offline and online. thanks for your response.Always keep in touch. Happy Myloting:-) [ajesh_pullad]
hi ajesh! i'm not a regualar reader of dictionary. when i read from books and i find a difficult word, i look for it in the dictionary. but i know of someone who makes it a habit to read the dictionary everyday, my sister. :) [jdpartosa]

You can hear the correct pronunciation of a certain word in that site. I am also teaching English to Korean students so there must be always a dictionary on my side. [gorgeousdreamer]
Hi gorgeous, glad to see an English teacher in our discussion.freedictionary.com ok i think its nice.we can hear pronunciation in Oxford software with Book.Anyway all the best for your teaching profession. Thanks for your response.Always keep in touch. Happy MyLoting :-) [ajesh_pullad]

Hi,there! I use dictionary very often in my daily life. When there's sth I don't know,I won't turn to a dictionary for help. When I was young,I usually bought dictionaries in the bookstore, but nowadays I use online dictionaries more often cause I think it's convenient and much faster.I guess that's benefit of the information society.I did use an Oxford English Dictionary in the past and I think it was a very good one.I don't remember the last word that I searched in the dictionary. But I think it's a good habit to use a dictionary to solve our doubts about things:) [fanji008]
Hi fanji008, online dictionary is pretty good, convenient and faster in operation.but my Oxford is very friendly with me.i can easily find in twosf in seconds.because ill open my book several times in a day. Thanks for your response.Always keep in touch. Happy MyLoting :-) [ajesh_pullad]

I use online dictionary when I am working at my computer. I usually use Yahoo Dictionary. It is so nice that it offers many examples to show the usage of the words. But if I work in my office at my table, I use my old Oxford English Dictionary. Well, the last words I checked online this afternoon are "elusive" and "arthritis" when I was responding to my friends' discussion. I know the words, but I just wanted to confirm the pronnunciation. Thanks very much for responding to my discussion and inviting me as your friend, dear ajesh. [williamjisir]
Hi williamjisir, you are very welcome.thanks for adding me as a friend. Yahoo Dictionary i nor yet used.so im going to check it. All of us using Oxford for reference. The compact disc (cd) with Dictionary is very helpful.all words we can find it there.also new words updates.pronunciation can be hear, record, practice and check.also there are many exercises included.its really nice.even now im infront of that great book. Thanks for your response.Always keep in touch. Happy MyLoting :-) [ajesh_pullad]
I play Literati a lot on Yahoo! games and some of the games I play in are challenged games where any player that submits a word can be challenged by the other player if they don't feel it's a word. I use www.dictionary.com a lot and look up words and have busted quite a few cheaters who thought that colour was the proper spelling of color. I know in England, colour is proper, but Literati uses American english and it's not proper. [CletusVanDamme]
Literati uses american English, its tough.we prefer british. So its hard to win that site.please tell me do you anyother sites like this? Have a nice day:-) [ajesh_pullad]
as for me,i would also say i have the habit as well, but just when i want to use it,it does not come in handy.but when i see it,i use it.dictionaries are very vital things.cheers. [olisae]
Hi olisae, yes you are right my friend, dictionaries are vital.so keep one always.atleast pocket type. Thanks for your nice response.Always keep in mind. Happy MyLoting :-) [ajesh_pullad]
I do not use a dictionary..if I need to look up a term or word..I go to http://www.dictionary.com and find my definitions there.. When I was in school and studied for the spelling bees, then I would open up a dictionary and go through one..Nowadays, I am happy with the vocabulary I have. [littlefranciscan]
Hi littlefranciscan, using online dictionary is very easy, fast, reliable, convenient.however i prefer book dictionary. Thanks for your response. Always keep in touch. Happy myLoting :-) [ajesh_pullad]
yup, dictionary helps a lot cos there are many words and phrases we don't know, especially when learning a foreign language. I personally used to use Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary a lot, but now consult on-line dictionary more often. The last word i checked is oust. Nobody wants to be ousted.:) [linben]
Hi linben, right you are my friend, dictionary is our teacher. Always keep in touch. Thanks for your response. Happy myLoting :-) [ajesh_pullad]

Hi pinay, you are right.sometimes we need the help of dictionary.searching google for words is pretty good.however i always prefer my Oxford Dictionary. Thanks for your response. Happy myLoting :-) [ajesh_pullad]
i really like using distionary. there are still somem words in english that are usually used that i am not really familiar. i really have to improve my knowledge in english. i will want to be able to know the meaning of some words i really don't knwo or i am not really familiar with. hopefully that i will be able to learn more words. sometimes i really like looking for words in the dictionary and look for words that i can learn so that i will have new knowledge. when i need to learn more english words i just read books or pocket books and those words i am not really familiar with i just look it up in the dictionary. thankfully we have a complete english dictionary. i am not really good in enligh but because of dictionary i am able to understand some things that i read from books. though i rarely use the dictionary now cause they are really heavy and they are no that easy to look for words. sometimes i really have to and used that. though i really small dictionaries but there are lots of words that are not to be found ont he small dictionaries so from time to time i really have to look it up in the big dictionary. i still like having dictionary. it's one of the book i often use beside the telephone directory. before i was really lazy in using the dictionary but made an effort to look for words so that i will more intelligetn. i wished that before i really pursued on self study of some words in the dictionary. there are some books that will give us some questions about words and will give us choices of the meaning. i should not given up my effort in adding more words in my knowledge. i think those words i remember are really useful. the effort that i put on studying those words are realloy paying off. if i only put more effort i think i will be better in english now. thankfully i still able to communicate in english in some way. [ivandcruz]
Thank you my friend, i checked that site.really great. [ajesh_pullad]
i often use the dictionary.in the past i used a book of dictionary, but now i often check online.^^ [MagieL]
Hi MagieL, It is faster and easier to search online.sometimes i did, always i prefer book dictionary. Thanks for your response. Always keep in touch. Happy myLoting :-) [ajesh_pullad]
i have webster dictionary. that's an english dictionary. i have a spanish to english dictionary too but i really don't use that since it's really hard to use that dictionary. i really don't use spanish language so it's not really important for me to learn that language. i have other dictionary too like french and chinese dictionary too. i really don't use them. i only use the english dictionary. because i really need them i really use those dictionary often times. specially wheni was still studying in school back then i really have oftentime refer to it so that i will be able to understand my lessons in english. there are so many words then which was really new to me. i really have to use the dictionary many times. sometimes i really don't when i am realyl familiar with a word. sometimes i am happy that i could elarn some language. though sometimes i get bored on using the dictionary, i still have to pursue back then to know some words. i will have to know more words since i am not really that good in english but if i think that i am getting better i think i will be proud of that. this dictonary i have been using was bought by my parents when we were still young. when we were still about in grade 1, my bought that so that we can use in school. though i really used that when i was in grade 5 already. it's really hard at first to study back then. cause i was really study by myself, i sometimes feel that it was really too hard for me to use the dictionary. it was something new for me back them.i really hate it back then. i guess still have using th dictionary but i still like the benefits from using it since i could learn many thing from it which i will not be able to learn in other ways. so i would say that we really take care of our dictionary. we change the book cover when we need too. we make it a point that we are going to use for a long time as we get older. we will pass that dictionary to my children too. the dictionary is the most important book in my home. i really dont'give that away. there are so many books that are expensive that i wil give to others but the english i will never ever give away. though i really don't like it that much i still value it. still it's the most important book in my home. i have lots of memories with that book. [ivandcruz]
Hi juhiram, Again thanks for lengthy passage to our discussion.you are using Webster's dictionary.its very good. Always keep in touch. Thanks for your response. Happy myLoting :-) [ajesh_pullad]
I seldom use a dictionary for myself, but I work with handicapped third graders who have vocabulary from some of their stories, so I am looking up words on a third grade level. Allowance was a word this week, it means a sum of money or item received on a regular basis. [GardenGerty]
Hi Gardengerty, working with them you need third grade words.thats weird. Thanks for your response. Happy myLoting :-) [ajesh_pullad]

[suspenseful]

Oxford dictionaries are the best, I always have a dictionary handy, it improves your vocabularly and word power. Whenever I see a word in the paper or in a book and I don't know the meaning of it, I will look it up and learn it, if I am out then I will write the word down or memorize it so when I get home I can then look it up. I love learning new words. [wolfie34]
Hi wolfie, Right you are,my friend.it can improve our vocabulary and word power.like you...i have the habit of listing new words.that helped of a lot several times.this very discussion taught me some words from our friends.its happy to discuss here. Always keep in touch. thanks for your response. Happy MyLoting :-) [ajesh_pullad]
Dictionary is one of the best and time tested and basic tool for those who want to improve their vocabulary as well as to know about the meanings of worlds. A good dictionary helps the consultants in different ways. It guides about the meaning of worlds, usage of words, pronunciations of words, origins of words and much many more. The dictionary with big number of worlds could be called better one than the dictionary with less numbers of words. Dictionary in book format becomes the story of past, as it is available and could be downloaded on line and also available in market as software on CD. I use the dictionary I feed in my computer and find it most helpful, when I work on or off the line on my computer. [sheenshaukat]
Thanks for your good response...I always prefer book one...its very comfortable to me....i can catch a word within seconds.... Happy Myloting:-) [ajesh_pullad]

Hi friend, from wikipedia, we will get a to z there. Also i think answers.com is good too. Thanks for your good response. Happy Myloting :-) [ajesh_pullad]
No offense but besides a dictionary you might want to grab a grammar book and check out a few tips on spacing and capitalization. It gets pretty hard to read like that. Online dictionaries are the way to go now. just so much more accessible. [mscott]
Hi friend, thanks for your response. Happy Myloting :-) [ajesh_pullad]
I confess I use dictionary.com quite often. When I'm not at the computer I use it via my web connection on the phone. [hockeygal4ever]

hi friend, i think you are good in vcabulary. so that there is no need of using themn no more. Merriam webster is very good dictionary. but i always prefer Oxford Dictionary. Thanks for your response. happy [ajesh_pullad]
We have three dictionries, one for each language, English, Chinese and Malay. My son has to use them when learning. I have one with me now. When I am not sure the spelling of certain words, I will refer to it. It is < Oxford Advanced Learner's English-Chinese Dictionary ( 6th Edition ) >. When I encounter some new words, I have to consult my damb-teacher.happy [curious888]
hi curious, well we use three dictionaries. they are english, hindi and malayalam. i freqently use Oxford Advanced Learners dictionary. Thanks for your good Response.happy [ajesh_pullad]
Yes, I can say that the dictionary has been a very good friend to me since my primary school days. I competed on yearly Spelling contests until my senior year in high school. :-) Even until now, here in my room, I always have my old English-Tagalog Dictionary just within my reach. It's very useful when doing translation jobs. Tough luck, the last word I had searched is not in my dictionary. For Filipinos here, what is the Tagalog word for "skewed"? [oo0kulasa0oo]
hi friend, i am curious about regional languages. i am using an english malayalam dictionary. malayalam is my mother tongue. Thanks for your response. Happy Mylotinghappy [ajesh_pullad]
I did have this habit before of looking up everything on a dictionary. Sometimes I just browse it so I can have my word or words for the day. I used the Merriam Webster one. But nowadays I just do definition search online. [joliefille]
Hi joliefille, thanks for your response. Happy Myloting :-) [ajesh_pullad]
Hello, As far as Dictionaries are concerned;I (and for that matter-others in my household ) are "Traditional" . We have in fact two dictionaries in our Home . However;now a days;I am equally into searching new word meanings on www.dictionary.com or other sites. [ptrikha1]

no i dont remember the last word i looked up, but i do use the dictionary - we tend to play scrabble a lot and rather than running down to the computer, it is much easier to have a paperback dictionary with you. [cher913]
Hi friend, thanks for your response. Happy Myloting :-) [ajesh_pullad]
I do have Merriam Webster Dictionary and the Thesaurus. I always have them since I was in gradeschool. I think it is very important in my studies and in my writings to have them accessible all the time. I am not always on the computer, so having them on top of the computer/study table is always helpful. I always look for meanings of words that I have just heard and sounds new to me. It's one good way of improving my vocabulary. [toni_nakama]
Hi toni, webster and thesaurus are good enough to build a powerful vocabulary. thanks for your response. Happy Myloting :-) [ajesh_pullad]
