Do You Use It

How many of you out there take advantage of your public library?? My husband and I recently moved and I finally now have PHOTO ID for this state. I decided to go visit the library now that I can get a library card!! It was the first time I'd been to the public library in years. I'm so glad we have a great library here now! It's a great place to get books and movies to loan for FREE. I love it! I should've been using this long ago. How many of you go to the library on a regular basis? Why do you or why don't you visit your library?

I use to so much many years back.. I was love take books for free! But know that I work in a library and got a 10% on the prices of books and I can borrow 3 books during 2 weeks, I dont go anymore in public one! I got all just under my eyes ahhahappy [julie85]

We love our library. I just wish they had a bigger movie selection. We are planning on visiting another county library this weekend to see what they have. However, we constantly get books, CD, and movies for us and our children. I don't think there is any better resource for books for the kids. I usually don't quite know which books my son has already read, so I am a bit shy about buying him some. But I can take him there and he will disappear and come back with a stack of something to read. I try to ensure that he never loses his love for reading, so far so good, he is 15 and still at it, as well as my 19 year old. It is easier to buy books for the little ones sometimes, since I am afraid of the rough treatment that our 5 year old bestows on everything she touches :-) [cacita]

I visit the library very often ,since i read only there. When I come back home ,bed and Tv seem to be more attractive for me . [Franzisika]

I agree with you...I love the public libraries, especially the ones we have now in our town. I like to check out audio books to listen to in the car while I'm driving. I like the DVD's, free and I don't have to rent them elsewhere, and I like all the latest best sellers they have. One thing our library does, too, that is especially great...they give tons of free programs for both children and adults. Our family went last month and watched a 2 hour improv play (where the players made up the lines as they went along) that was absolutely great, and free. I love libraries. [windchimebooks]

I used to visite library so long time ago....when I was in the High School and College...but I think the reason because the library is not frequently visited by users its the Ebooks in your computer; it's more easy Hold the "Ctrl+F" Key in your keyboard and find the information that you are looking for. Printed Books are getting lazy to read it...what I want to say; library is not popular like before. [gersdex]

I once went to the library to borrow my favorite book to read, it's only need 100RMB as a deposit to get a library card. then it will have a month of limit to read these books, and it will need extra cost if you don't return these books to library. I don't go to the library now, because I have a little time to read. How's the regulation to get a library card there? [bettydeng5]
Where I live, you get the library card for free for the county you live in or go to school in. There are fees if you don't return the items on time, for example, we can get movies for one week and books for three weeks. However, you can always call and extend your time so you don't have to pay fees if you can't bring them back on the date that it is due. [cacita]

My mom is an avid reader and since she no longer drives I take her to the library every other week and she gets two or three books. I also pick up books for her at garage sale. Once in awhile I will get a book but I have so many books now to read and my condo also has a lending library in the club house. [muscles4me]

I go to the National Library every six weeks because it is about 80 km away. The membership is free. There are many books to choose from. A member can borrow 3 books for 3 weeks, and can have the period extended by another 3 weeks. The library now offers WiFi for free, and users can plug into the mains without having to pay anything. The library is divided into 2 sections, Adults, Children, and Reference only. There are four floors for the Reference section, and two floors for the Adult section. At the Children section there is a viewing room, and cyber room. An adult can borrow children's books. The library also organises many activities especially during the school holidays. These include theatre, colouring, and story telling. My children have won several prizes. Everyone in the family is a member. It means we borrow 42 books at a time. My children love going to the National Library because of the books and activities. [rosdimy]

I like to visit my town library, but not often because I can go to my town only on holidays and when ever I go to my town I'll visit at least once. There are some large collections of books and some books related to the history of my town. I have a great interest in knowing the history of my town(everyone will have this interest on their place). I will spend minimum 2 to 3 hours there... And I am not a member of my library..... Now a days internet become a greatest source of information, so it is not possible to have frequent visit to libraries... Libraries become a place to get relaxed now-a-days..... ThanQ Jennlk84..... For reminding about the habit of visiting libraries..... [earndeep]

I do actually use the library normally. I am working on a project right now that has me out of my home area and I won't go as often. when my kids were little we went all the time. THey enjoy books and reading now too! We used to rent movies and all sorts of things when they were still small. Last year I moved to a large city and the resources available through the library were great! [macdingolinger]

I used my community library. We go there every two weeks. Some of the books are very useful. AS for storybooks, they are a bit dated. My sister likes to borrow cookbooks from here. [gracefuldove]

Congratulations.library is usually in school or college in china, although that I am a student,I don't go to library so frequently.I just don't like it,maybe I should have a good use of it. [sophia10]

I started using the public library back in my high school days. now that i'm an adult, I still visit the public library. Sometimes i go to research a new project that interests me. Sometimes i'm just looking for a good piece of fiction. I have an eight-year-old nephew who is very much into visiting the public library where we live. [sender621]

I love library!!! Since young my family was so rich, and I didn't have money to buy book for myself. So I normally go to my favorite place which is library! Is a place full of knowledge, what I curious and want to know about, all are available at library! Library is a great place, and all the expensive book out there you can loan for free. Library will benefit most of us, if you don't love library I am sure you will have a great lost of one of the best resources. [leoling]

I've been in our public library twice for our school research paper. I had a library card but since then I never used it again. [debbie_19]

I take full advantage of the public library! I love it. I actually go every week. I am an avid reader and for whatever reason I love reading books in my hand and not eBooks, (something about the sound of turning the pages I think). I didn't have a computer for a while and the library became invaluable for me to get online and apply for jobs etc. It is just wonderful. My whole family goes (at different times) so there are always books somewhere in the house. My sister has two little kids and she uses the library for movies, and audio, music. When I travelled to Hong Kong one year, I spent a day at their public library! I wanted to see what it was like. They had a section for books translated to English. It was awesome. No matter where I have lived I always make sure that I check out the library. [linamachina]

woh, it's been a long time since i visited mine. that was college lib. usually stay at home or at the coffee shop to study. thanks for giving me an idea. i might bum around again after weekends but this time at the public one. by that, it wont cost me much. :) [cherrc]

I like going to the library, but have not gone in a while because it is too hot to walk the over a mile there and I do not drive my scooter there because of the stupid underground parking garage having a very large grade hill. Also, I got a bunch of books from gift cards that I am still working my way through. Hopefully it will cool off in the next few weeks, though, as I am almost out of books to read and want to check out some books. As for the movies I have already been through their whole collection that interests me. They do not seem to get much in terms of new movies and I already do Netflix anyways. [antarcticpostcards]

I go to the library at least a couple of times a month. I usually check out 2 books at a time. We have a really nice library, even though we are a very small town. I would be lost without it. I was not allowed to buy books very often as a kid. My Dad always told me that I have all the books I need at the library, so I spent much time there. That has stuck with me throughout the years. [bmorehouse1]

I love libraries and it's a shame not many people take advantage of them. I think they have a reputation for being stuffy and boring, but have in fact moved very much with the times and offer lots of services including free internet access. As a teenager I used to work in a library as my weekend job and it's a career i'm considering trying to get back into. [magickat]

We have a local library here and it has so much to offer, when we first moved into our house we went that summer and checked it out.. we have been back some times but not often... and we have a card there so when we do go back we can use it!! lol however the card itself does not get used that often!! They also have a gym there (for a decent price but we are on a budget and cant use it right now although I would love to) they also have an indoor pool/toddler section for 5.00 a day for residents.. attached to our library/rec center .... and I hope we use that alot this winter -- our kids would be free so we could have a day there for 10.00 I hope you enjoy your library and get to use it often!! Happy mylotting!! [bookreadermom08]

We have a private library at home. We collect books for reference. There are a few public library near our area so it is not that accessible. Reading is a wonderful habit. It increases knowledge and imagination. It allows to know more about a person, place and procedure without having to experience it or travelling. It teaches comprehension and patience. I cannot recall how many times I was commended for having a stack knowledge that I acquired from just reading books and other media. It is sad though that the introduction of the internet have lessen the number of bookworms in the world. [hwoarangpoy]

I used to go to the public library way back when I was still studying. When There isn't any textbook available for rent, I look for them in the library both at our school library and in the public library just so I could photocopy them and avoid borrowing from my classmates. Most times, it's for research. By the way, our public library didn't require any card to make use of its facilities, and it's totally free of course. The odd thing is that there are more books and materials at our school library. The government here does not even take that in consideration. [forptc]

We do use our public library a lot. I probably go about once a week or every other week. Sometimes I take my kids with me and sometimes I go alone. [Shar19]

I do use the library on a regular basis. I have 2 books checked out as I type this. My daughter likes to get dvd's too. So we both go there several times monthly. And it does help that there is one on the next block from my work. LOL [stacysmomstl]

I use the Central Library in Port of Spain, Trinidad where I get fiction books to read and that includes stuff by John D MacDonald and others like him. Its a great place to get books to read when you can't afford to buy the stuff brand new. [Bluepatch]

Me, I take advantage of it, A MUCH! I visit it almost every single day because of some reasons. First, we can borrow books for free, and I can find almost every book I need without obligation to buy one. =) There is limitation of 3 weeks for one time borrow. But we can always extend it whenever we want. =) Second, we can loan DVD's, but there is fee for the loan. =) Third, we can book a room which is available for studying and meeting. [charlies2805]

No I go to my schools library which is bigger than the public library if I ever need a book, or if I need some software the school has to do some homework [macdrizzle]

I have not been to a library in a while. There for a while my husband and I used to utilize the library just to be able to check out Movies to watch, but then we got to the point where we had seen all of them, so we quit utilizing it as well. Now we just recently moved to a home we just bought, and even though we're only about 25-30 mins. from where we used to live, we're in a New county and have no idea where the library is here in this area as well. [KrauseHome]

i go sometimes to my local library but i can't do it regulary because of my work. But i read a lot every day, that not depends of your visits to your local library. Libraries are nice places, unfortunetly most people don't think the same and find this stupi or a waste of time [starsailover]

Me and my son love the library. The library is very close to his school so when I pick him up from school (I dont drive and husband and my father pick my son) but when I walk there to pick him up he knows its library time. At first we used it because it was convinient. I was pregnant and it was hot so I would walk to school pick him up and then go to the library and wait for my husband to finish work and pick us up (its about 2km walk to home). My sone loves book ever since he was a baby so to see him get so excited in the library I am glad I have passed that love for books to him. He gets so many books (we can get unlimited amount of book) and we read them before bed time (5-6 at 1 time) [violeta_va]

I have a library card and I love to go to my public library to get books, books on cd which are children's stories, and I love to check out movies.I live in Baton Rouge which is a big city and their are several librarys in the city. [carebears]

I used to emerse myself in public libraries as i would read books on tape and cd. it was my way of relaxing. and it was very fun and i learned a lot. [marrie1]

I use the library a lot, and I have two different library cards. There is a small library pretty close ot my home, they don't have a lot of different books, but I still like to go there every once in a while. It is also possible to borrow cds and films at the library. My husband loves films so when we go there he usually borrows many films and I borrow some books or some cds. I live on an island and there is a great library in the largest city. It is much bigger than my local library, and I usually borrow many books when I am there. [Porcospino]

I do but only for books. I have borrowed movies and they were scratched and wouldn't play in my DVD. I have a problem with having to get the book FINISHED in the required time. So I use it about 50% of the the time I could be using it. [RhodaK]

I used to go to the local public library all the time, but I haven't been doing that as much recently. One reason is that I work in a bookstore. I can borrow books for up to two weeks at a time as long as they meet certain criteria, so I tend to do that a lot. I also get one free paperback book every week, plus I get first dibs on any advance copies that interest me. These days, when I go to the public library, it's so I can buy books at the Friends of the Library sales. I used to collect as many good books as I could, but I've been focusing on reducing my collection lately. Now, when I buy books at the Friends of the Library sales, I look for things I can resell to local stores for a profit to earn a little extra money. [o0Tora0o]
