Do You Use Libraries

I have always had a library card but never used it much. I love to read and tend to read a book a day. I started using our library. I am going to ask for a job because I am there more than the staff now! Do you like to read? Do you use your library?

responses and comments:

I like to read books that interest me. The bible, the finance and money books, self-development books, and others that I think I needed it. With the internet and the information it contains, I seldom go to the library because most of the books in our library are already obsolete. The information I obtained on the web is usually updated so I chose these over the library books.happy [learn2earn]
I understand. There are just some things it is easier to get online! [laglen]

I use the library very regularly. I almost always have two or three books out. My husband and I car pool to work together, and I have about an hour wait after work before I pick him up. I usually go to the library to wait for him, especially in the bad weather. Often I will spend a little time on the computer there, but then I look around for books. I like the library I use because along with the display of new releases up front, they have tables of "all stars", older titles in different themes, maybe mustery, suspense, general fiction, etc. I have gotten many books I may not normally have gotten just by checking this rack. Good for you! Our library has up to date nooks, audio books, magazines and even movies! They also have a lot of great events and activities. [laglen]

Yes, the library is a place that I love to go to to get some peace and quiet.. I used to do this a lot when I was living with my in laws.. I did not like to stay in the house with my mil that much.. She made me feel strange. So, off to the library I went.. I love reading.. Books are my enjoyment! I have even worked in the library during my high school years.happy [cream97]
My daughter's school is by a library so a lot of the kids walk to the library after school. It really is a great place. Ours even offers home work help! [laglen]

I love love the library! I live in NYC so there is a huge network here. I usually reserve books online and send it to a library near me. If I can't find it at the library, I can reserve it for when it becomes available. [lovelyladydancing]
Ours does that too! They are a great resource! [laglen]

I love to read. It's one of my favorite hobbies. Honestly, I'm not sure where I'd be without books. I'm sure I'd go mad. Though I must admit that I don't use the local library, or even my university library, very often. I guess I'm just one of those who prefers to buy their books or something. It's just the way I am. [dodo19]
I know what you mean. But I am out of work now so it is a great deal for me! [laglen]

I haven't been into a library in a long time, because lately I've been able to find everything that I want on the internet. I've also started buying books that I want, because when I want to read abook badly enough, chances are I will want to keep it. [danishcanadian]
I know what you mean. But broke is broke! I have been using it a lot lately! [laglen]

I was using my library every week; the last time I moved, some books I had got misplaced and though I did finally find them and return them, I have to pay the overdue fine before I can check out any more, and that won't be until after I have surgery so I can go back to work. I really miss it, because I checked out 4-5 books each week for several years.sad [myklj999]
That bites! I had some fines too, $17 worth! But I paid and now I am in the clear again! [laglen]

Before there was an interent, I used the library all the time. Now, I find more detailed, more accurate, more up to date info on the net than at any library or in any encyclopedia. [redyellowblackdog]
So true! But I like to read a lot of fiction too! I get too much real life in my real life! [laglen]

Hi my name is Irish and I am a bookaholic! Yea, I love the library. Interlibrary loan is the greatest thing they ever did too. Now you can get ANY book, you just may have to wait a couple of weeks while they search it out for you. I go every 1-2 weeks and read about 8-10 books per month, or so. I read pretty fast, even though I have a 4yr old. I read in the bath, I read when I am eating my lunch. I read right before bed and sometimes at my son's naptime if there aren't any pressing chores. LOL! Right at this time, in my life, I read mostly for pleasure, to laugh, entertainment. I am not into heavy stuff right now, although I do get into that on occassion. Library's rock and we check out movies there too. FREE! What more could you ask for? Everyone should use their library. [Irishfrndly65]
thanks for BR! [Irishfrndly65]

I'm always going to the library either to use their computers, check out books, or rent a movie. My daughter loves going as well and getting alot of books that keep h er occupied for a few days. [blackbriar]
Good for you and your daughter! Support your local library! [laglen]

in the college, all of us have a library card which can be used to borrow books and check in the library. i love to read books and do work in my school in my library for where has thousands of books from in kinds of area. in my opinion staying in the library the whole day is enjoyalbe. i can read history book, fiction, and professional books. the time i spend in library is very fast.i love it [chenyuanyuan567]
Good for you utilizing a great resource! [laglen]

I know the feeling...I'm at the library more than some of the staff too. Our library has an excellent online catalog, that has been a real plus. Being read-a-holic too, I like being able to read everything that a newly discovered author has written. Online, we can reserve books from our own library, as well as those in neighboring cities. For hard to find books, we can even request books statewide, or country wide...it's just wonderful! [catdla1]
Our library will look for books in this order: county, state, country, global. If it gets to the global one, where they have to bring a book in from another country, I would have to pay for shipping. I've been reading a series of books that are published in the UK, but not here in the USA. Thankfully, there are a few libraries in the country that bring in books from overseas, so I haven't had to do that yet. Look at your library's website to see if there's an interlibrary loan section. If not, then ask a librarian. [catdla1]

Books! Haven't been in a library for a long while now. I used to borrow from the library but most of the time i can't find the books i want. I prefer to go to the bookstore and buy books so that i can keep them after reading and look at them on my shelf. I like literature fiction. I get excited just looking at the shelves of books in a big bookstore. Booklovers must all feel that haha.. [antioxidant]
I understand! I have a great book collection! I specifically keep a great supply of resource books. They have come in handy for my daughter for school. I love history! [laglen]

Yes i do get books issued from library but the frequency of getting books for reading has surely fallen as i hardly find any time to go through books after the long sessions i need to spend online as i am engaged in a number of activities that include surveys, research work to make investment decisions, ptc sites, mylot etc. [limcyjain]
I go through phases. More time online, then more time reading and then time with neither! [laglen]

This is going to sound funny but true. I am a avid reader. I average 5 books a week. I don;t use the Library because I like keeping the books. That,s why I never borrow books. I was reading in the papers yesterday that a lot of folks have discovered that you can now borrow movies and CDs from there. This is a great way for folks to save money and in today,s economy this is a good thing. [patms1]
I agree. Bit I don't like to read books a second time. Fiction and resource books I save for future reference. But non-fiction I usually don't reread. There are just way too many books out there! [laglen]

I love the library. It is my escape sometimes. My kids are always finding excuses to go and we have a blast. [pajamamama]
Thats great! See, my parents never took me, I take my daughter a lot. She even likes to go there after school! [laglen]

I love the library, and I go there every week. I can spend hours there, there are always so many interesting books that I want to read. My friends don't want to go to the library with me, because they get bored and impatient, I wonder why. I usually borrow a lot of books, I don't read them all but I always plan to. I read everyday and sometimes I continue for many hours. [Porcospino]
I like to keep reading until I am done with the book! Today I read 1 and a half books and still had a full day! [laglen]

I've been trying to use the library more. About a year ago, I started going once a week. I like to head for the new fiction table, and grab something by an author I've never heard of. I try to just choose a book without looking at it. This way I have something totally random, and don't get stuck in any one genre. I found two authors that I quite enjoy this way: Matt Beynon Rees and Christie Ridgway. Rees wrote _A Grave in Gaza_, a remarkable mystery that takes place in Gaza, and opened my eyes to what life is like in that area. Ridgway's novel is _How to Knit a Wild Bikini_, a light romance. I'd like to read more of both these authors! [hortmom121]
Thats awesome and what a great idea! I find an author I like and I will read everything. Right now I am going through Susan Elizabeth Phillips and Nancy Atherton. [laglen]

yeah I use them when the books are costly but I prefer to own books. [mindleader]
I know what you mean. I am broke right now so the library is my best friend! [laglen]

Do I use my library? Not as much as I'd like to... unfortunately, there are wanted posters of me in libraries in about 6 different counties, lol. I'm REALLY bad about remembering to renew my books or take them back in on time, so my fines add up and I never pay. Oops, lol [Quillspirit]
I just paid a bunch of fines and now I am trying to be really good about getting them back. I am taking out a bunch every few days and take back what I am done with every time I am near there! [laglen]

Yes, laglen, I do use libraries, although not as much as I used to. I used to enjoy using the small libraries in my communities, but the staff has become so rude that I no longer use them. I do like a really nice big library, especially those at major universities. [Transdisc]
Our libraries (we have 3) are super nice and helpful. What a bummer that they are rude. [laglen]

I own a lot of books. However, I still use libraries quite a bit, too. There are so many resources available both through public and academic libraries that I always find something-- whether it be books, movies, music or other. [wilsongoddard]

The only time I liked libraries is when I was in doing work-study at a college, and now I have no interest in going to libraries. I tried asking for a job at a library, but they said all positions were filled. I rather go to bookstores instead, because the books are more updated for everyday learning. [Peppersquirrel]
Must have been a bad experience. sad [lordwarwizard]

When we lived in WA, several years ago, we used the library there often for internet, videos and a lot of books. The last city we lived in, I wanted to go get a library card, but never did so, I am not sure why. I usually buy books I want to read, and though I am thankful we have them, have not utilized them much. In my new city, I am not even sure where one is. My grandmother asked me a little while ago, of my new town, "How are the libraries?" and I did not know. I do not drive, and have social anxiety, so that is some of it. Though I think sometime soon, I will. [UtopianIdealist]

Sure I do! I go to libraries quite often. I usually read quite a bit so I borrow books quite frequently. Cheers! w00t [lordwarwizard]

I used to be a frequent visitor of the library when I was still studying. Aside from being a 'couch potato, I also consider myself a reader of various types of reading materials (magazines, comic and academic books, newspaper articles). I remember that my peers (in college) and I even considered it as one of our hangouts while waiting for each other. Not that we made it a gang's place just to pass time, but more often, we did our reviews of lectures and subjects there or read magazines while we stayed there. Aside from this, we were encouraged to stay there while reading because our librarian was kindhearted. But it's been more than a decade since I visited any library in our place. At present, I do have a family of my own with one daughter for a child. She is three years old and still isn't studying as of now. I don't have much time for reading a lot since I do have other priorities to attend to, and which usually take the most of my time. Aside from spending quality time with my own family and doing the chores, I also am a working mom. But several months from now, I believe I could catch up with my reading since the company I'm working with for nearly four years now is planning to close shop by the end of this year or until the first quarter of next year. [mykmari_08]

we don't have public libraries that i am aware of... it probably won't last either just in case one is existing... i dreamt of becoming a librarian when i was young, just so i can have all the books i wanted at hand... [Mathurin]

Hi friend, I will use library and i will go for library in weekend time or free time get my books. Some books will not get in market so i will read from the library itself. Have a great day. [23uday]

I am still a student and i do go to library and since it is 24hours open library so many a times we do go for whole night study or can study till late in the night. I really like the atmosphere, phones switched off, noone to disturb and you can make notes and you have all the reference books u need. love it. [agrim94]

hi laglen, my dear friend, i do use to use libraries regulary and sitting there and reading use to be one of my favourite passtime. but now after getting married and then a kiddoo also, it is not possible also. that library where i use to go regularly was where my parent's live and now after marriage i have changed my place also. here i am enrolled in a library but i am not that regular goer as i ue to be before. i love to read a lot so i love to go to libraries. [aweins]

No I do not use a public library, nor do I even have a library card. I find satisfaction in ownership of written words, and the enjoyment of creating my own library at home. To save cost I purchase my books used, written word does not change just because the owner does. [gewcew23]
