Whenever I read before going to bed, it makes me feel more awake than sleepy. What about you?

Oh yes it does. I just replies to someone yesterday who needed help in falling asleep and I told her that is what I do, read a book. Sometimes I struggle to stay awake if it is a really good book..:) [carmelanirel]
well, if it's a boring book it'll make me sleepy. But usually if it's boring, I'm not reading it. Most of what I read is pretty exciting, so it makes me more awake. Even if I'm exhausted, I'll keep pushing myself to keep reading. Last time I wanted to read before bed, I thought "just half an hour..." and ended up reading until 3am. [wiccania]
That's funny it depends on the book. Last night I was up to all hours because I just started a new book and it got me so involved I couldn't put it down until my eyes were so tired I couldn't keep them open. So in this case it made me tired but not until way after I should have been asleep. If I really want to get to sleep from reading I will pick a book that I am reading but that takes more mental involvement to follow than a quick easy read. Usually something of the more literary/novel variety rather than the mass market paperback of the day. [Nerophile]
If the book is a good one I will stay up longer than I should but if it is not interesting I will fall asleep. I haven't had time lately to read a good book... I must get off this laptop and get to the store to get the latest Steven King or James Patterson Novel. I hear they each have a new one out. [Kowgirl]
HA i always fell asleep when i had to read my school books LOL but i agree about feeling more awake if its an interesting book. Then i want to complete before falling asleep! [AnoChaudhary]
Reading a book before I go to sleep helps me sleep... but only if i finish the book. Therefore i end up staying up till midnight reading XD However, if I start with only 100-150 pages to go then I'll be reading for about an hour and then I will fall asleep satisfied and dreaming about variations on the plot, and imagining being the characters x3 then, for the next few weeks i will make up my own story very similar to that one, until i read another book! No, reading late at night always makes me sleepy! If the book is one of my favourite serial killer page-turners, I am even more likely to fall asleep over it - just because I am unable to put it down. I think "I will just read another page" and somewhere along the line my eyes close, and I drop the book. I invariably end up the next morning on the train, re-reading everything I have read the night before, because I can't remember it! What would be a real treat for me - but something I haven't experienced since I was a small child, would be someone reading to me, until I fell asleep!!! Any volunteers?!! [Messymadam]
mostly, no but the cat's don't let me read much either [ElicBxn]
I think it is not necessarily the reading part that makes you start to get sleepy. I think it is the being relaxed in a home setting, your in a comfortable position and not doing anything physical so you tend to feel more at ease and as you read, you don't realize how time goes by so you do end up getting sleepy. [mamasan34]
Will it answer your your question if I told you that the last thing I usually do before going to bed is reading? Anyway, I have weak eyes, and at night when Am exhausted reading helps bring the sleep. It depends on what book am reading though. The last novel I read was so interesting that I could not sleep without finishing it. I usually re-read stuff I have read before, and know so that I do not get so involved in the story. It is then easier for me to fall asleep that way. [Raymo23]
Sometimes reading a book does make me feel sleepy. No matter what kind of book Im reading. When I was in school and I have to read boring subjects in school it does make me fall asleep faster. [ericajoyce]
Reading books before going to bed makes me feel sleepy. It is effective if you read informative books. It may make you feel awake if the book makes you imagine or think a lot. Try also reading right on your bed. [wrangel15]
it does make me fall asleep. [webster12]
Of crouse It help me relax a little bit, but most of the time I'M always too much into a book, so I always end up going to bed late lol. When I start a really good book I always tell myself I will only read one chapter before going to bed, but I always read 2-3 lol [beyonce03]
I have to agree with you..when I read a book it makes me feel more awake:) [littlefranciscan]
Hi there... No, not at all if the book is of interest to me. But if it's "heavy" or very boring then maybe it could make me sleepy. In order to get sleepy I prefer a glass of warm milk with honey. :-) [JBorgL]
Yup I do get more sleepy after reading a book. I love reading and think it is a great way to wind down at night. [vicki2876]
Well for me it depends on the book or the moode i had, or maybe im tired and need sleep rather than read. sometimes it happens to me too,, especially if the content is interesting and exciting too.i can read until its finish. [annettenasser]
No.. I dont sleep or fall asleep when i read.. even i school days or during the time when i read any novels or so.. i dont sleep.. If at all, i want to sleep, i would close the book and will go to sleep. [saivenkaat802003]
Hello magumiart. Yes, reading book make me sleepy. I often cannot sleep early like my brothers. So, I asked my mom how to make me sleepy. Then she give me one glass of milk and give me a science book. After three(3) minutes, I fall asleep. This tips really really works(for me)! and I will always reading book if I want to sleep early. HAPPY LUCKY. **prettyhanan** [prettyhanan]
For me, it really depends on the book I am reading -- whether is a fiction or non-fiction book, something I am interested in or just for casual read. Also, if I really want to read that book, I will avoid reading when I am sleepy. [fineexistence]
Yes. I think so. When I could not sleep easily, normally I will take a book or magazine and start to read it. And then normally after reading few pages I will feel sleepy and fall asleep easily. [nyumix]
It depends on the book. Harry Potter books does not make me feel sleepy, but if I am reading just because I just want to go sleep, I see to it that I do not read thought-provoking books. :) [tryxiness]
I read in bed, just before I go to sleep. I used to read a book but now I just read a magazine. But not a ordinary magazine, I read a magazine with short stories, like True Romance or True Confessions. That way if I fall asleep while reading, oh well. I can just start the story over again or read just a little to remember what it was about. I do fall asleep more often than not when reading in bed. I like to read to forget about my every day problems for awhile and relax. This is my way of destressing at bedtime. Get the brain to quit working. [chrislotz]
Yea. Books always put me to sleep. The only books that I read are text books. I dislike reading since young. This is one big problem of mine. I only read when I have to. =D [poohgal]
I guess it depends on what I'm reading, but most of the time I get even more sleepy if I am already a little sleepy. I've fallen asleep in bed with a book several times. [nerdytina]
when i sit down and read the book,i won't fall asleep, but when i sleep in my bed and reading some novels ,then i will fall asleep.^^ [MagieL]
most of the time it really depends on how good the book is [Cajunhellcat]
The same goes for me . Every night I take out the current book I am reading and just start reading. After the first several pages my eyes start getting tired and I start getting sleepy . Sometimes I fall asleep with the book in my hand and wake up and then put the book away. I dont know what it is but a book always makes me sleep. Here I thought I was the only one that this happens to, well glad to know that I am not the only one. I am just wondering why reading makes me sleepy. Maybe because it is relaxing or something. If you know anything about why reading makes some people sleepy would you send me a message cause now I am curious as to why reading makes me sleepy.HUGH...I guess I will have to do some research tomorrow to.
