If you enjoy an author, do you try to read all of his/her books? If I enjoy an author I try to read all their books, especially if they have a series. Which depresses me in the end when i am finished.

Yeah I do. I enjoy Ann Rule alot. Her crime books are really good. [yorb24]
Yes, I do the same. I've read all of Alice Hoffman's books and have read "A" through "Q" in Sue Grafton's alphabet mysteries series. [brimia]
I've read them all, A-R, and can assure you that Ricochet is as good as the rest! [dhouston]
i do try and read all of themm and i have read most of the sidney sheldonz..but unlike you i dont feel sad but i do feel like i have read a good amount of stuff having read all of one authors books...plus i feel one also gets to learn alot by reading one authors books especially if the author you are reading talks of mostly one topic and all his books fall under one genre!! [shivka]
I tend to collect and read all the books of an author whose book that I have read for the first time impressed me. The first author whose works I have followed was the late robert ludlum, next is ken follett... john grisham too but haven't had the time reading his newer novels then, I also love the books of william diehl and sidney sheldon... For me, reading all the books of my favorite authors give me a feeling of self-fulfilment and incomparable happiness. It's as if in reading these, I feel I am in unity with the author himelf or herself.. it's as if I was he or she... silly thought, but it's how I feel :) [g_aileen09]
If I like an author's work I try to read everything by that author. [danishcanadian]
Yes, I try to read the complete works of an author, but haven't succeeded always. I tried it successfully with writers like Hemingway and Maugham, tried Golding to an extent. Liked to do it with John Grisham but got bored after sometime. I am thinking or reading Rushdie, Eco and Atwood this way...but who knows what will happen! There must be many people who love this kind of oeuvre studies in literature, as in other art forms. [ashjoe76]
Well i am not a fan of anyone but read randomly all the authors. I like John Grisham and Sidney Sheldon and Munir Ahmed and a little J.K. Rowling [dareformore]
Yeah, I usually stick with the same authors. I read Dean Koonts' "Watchers" and was hooked. So now I go to the "K's" first in the library. I also like Jean M. Auel (Clan of the Cave Bear series), Jackie Collins (Especially the Lucky Santangelo books), JK Rowling (read my stepson's 1st Harry Potter and from then on, I had to read them first...)and several others..oh yeah, James Patterson, can't forget him! [wickedstepma]
I have read all of Nora Robert, Judith McNaught, Julie Garwood, Jude Devereaux, and Joanne Lindsay. I also tend to collect these books and read them over and over. I especially enjoy Nora Roberts whether she is writing as herself or as J.D. Robb. Great Books! [Childrenx4]
Yes! I love Nora Roberts! [dhouston]
So tell us which authors you have ben following! I do it, too. Some of my favorites are John le Carre (who is very old and writing little any more--he firt appeared in the 1960s with _The Spy Who Came in from the Cold_), Tom Clancy, Patricia Cornwell, Kathy Reichs, the authors of V I Warshawsly, Stephanie Plum, the alphabet mysteries and some others. I ejoy seeing the characters develop as well as reading their adventures. [dhouston]
I went on a John Le Carre kick for a while, but I haven't read anything of his in several years. I keep meaning to start catching up on them. [unusualsuspect]
When I find an author I love, I try to read all their other books too. I just finished a book called the Gilded Web by Mary Balogh. It was a great book! So I went online last night to see what other books she had and found several that I could purchase used. I'm going to be ordering them later. [Bev1986]
Yes, I do. I have a few authors that I follow & read all of what they have wrote. I have only read a few series though at this point. [crystal8577]
I agree totally with you. I love James Patterson, Patricia Cornwell and recently I discovered Nora Robb and I have just about read all hers now. Sometimes the authors just don't write fast enough to keep up with me haha. [14missy]
I am the same way! I am reading the Dark Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon right now and I am down to the last two books. I hate when they end. It is so sad. But I have the next series lined up. I think I am going to read a series by Kim Harrison next. [ineedaname]
Yes, I will try to read an author's subsequent books if I enjoy their first one. One person I used to enjoy was Gilbert Morris. His books were so well written and you knew you wouldn't be faced with offensive language. Even if the author changes genres, like they were crime based nonfiction, but then they switch to comedy based fiction books. I tend to try to at least read one book to see if the author crossed genres successfully. My sister is a Mary Higgins Clark fanatic, but she likes Jan Karon as well. I guess if you find an author you are happy with you want to stick with them since it is so hard to find a good one in the first place. But when you are done with the last book that author has written, and you have to wait 6 more months until their next book - yeah, it used to depress me too. [AmbiePam]
actually, i try to read all of my favorite authors books. i have quite a collection of danielle steele's, judy blume, and anita shreve. don't get depressed if you have finished reading all of them. just look for another author, then. lol! [toonatoons]
Hey, me too! I have a collection of Judy Blume's books from when I was a little girl as well. :) [micamaldita]
Hi! I haven't really made a habit of following certain authors, but I'm more likely to read an author if I've enjoyed one of his/her books in the past. I just bought "Everyone Worth Knowing" by Lauren Weisberger because I enjoyed "The Devil Wears Prada" so much. The book was very different from the movie, but that's common anymore. I would like to read more of Sophie Kinsella's books, too, since I liked, "Can You Keep a Secret?" :-) [clownfish]
I try to read all books of an author only when it is a series and if the first ones in the series I've read really interested me. I usually base my readings on the title and synopsis of the book, not on the author who wrote it because sometimes I may like one book this certain author has written but did not like the other he has written. [3r7sweetie]
The latest author I've followed, is Mosby. Yes, boring I know, reference books. But, I understand the writing so completely... Before that it was the likes of Sandra Brown, and Kathleen Woodwiss. And, yes, I read every book I could get my hands on! I like the series books, too! [bestisyettocome]
Yes, I do. If a like an author I try to get a copy of everyhting she(he)'s written and read all of them if I can. [micamaldita]
I do the same. It is depressing when a series does end. [k1tten]
There are only 2 authors so far that I have read almost everything they've published: Isabel Allende and Ken Follet. Once on vacation I was reading Jackie Collins trilogy of "Chances" "LadyBoss" and "Lucky". But it was more of a vacation reading thing, all around Europe and runing out of material to read, so it was easy to find Jackie collins books anywhere in English. [berlinlife]
I like to follow Dean Koontz he is my fav author of all time! Usually when I pick up one of his books I have a hard time putting it down until I am done. I also follow the Harry Potter series I am so sad that this series is about to come to its end in july but I have already pre-ordered the book! [madtownsweety]
I absolutely love series authors, because I'm a person who reads very quickly. I hate it when I get to the end of a book, and there's no more to read. So I tend to go for authors who have a really long series, like Piers Anthony (30-some-odd books in his Xanth series) or Robert Jordan (Wheel of Time series, 11 books, each is about 500-600 pages). I love getting through a book and being able to just pick up the next one and keep going! Although, I must say, this does lead to spending large quantities of my hard-earned cash on books... [thyst07]
yes when I enjoy an author, I do try to read all of their books especially if they have a series. I then hope for another series of hope that in between other books, they will come up with more on that series. I also find it hard when I discover someone to get the earlier books in the series. [nowment]
I have several authors I follow. I follow Stephen King, Nora Roberts, and V.C. Andrews are just a few. I like the Circle Series by Nora Roberts and the Cutler family saga by V.C. A ndrews. I try to read everything these 3 authors write. [mystic2mom]
I do try to finish all their books.I started with Enid Blyton went on to Jeffrey Archer,J.K.Rowling, Sidney Sheldon and now trying out Danielle Steel [jerinm]
Sometimes I do - Note my Iyanla Vanzant post - she is one of my all time favorites. I used to read a lot of Steven King but then sort of stopped that. My partner is really into Patricia Cornwell. I read a couple of her books and liked them, but with advanced aga, reading is something that I don't enjoy as much as I used to. I find it to be too much of a chore having to find the right glasses, then the right chair with the right amount of light, and sometimes needing a magnifying page. LOL - growing old is not glamorous at all!~Donna [kitchenwitchoftupper]
Typically I do. Like I've read almost all the Dean Koontz, Mary Higgins Clark, Patricia Cornwell, Anne Rice...just to name a few. Now I'm really into the Anita Blake books by Laurell K. Hamilton and I'm trying to get through them all. [Withoutwings]
Oh yes, I do the same as you. I hate it when the series end. Yet I complain if they mess it up when extending the series lol. But I do love those authors. It is not always the case that if you like one book/series from them, you will like the rest as well. But no harm taking a look and checking the other books out. ;-) [lordwarwizard]
