Have You Ever Read A Book Twice

I am a more or less a voracious reader and I love to read Books. I try to read New books of all possible types as far as possible. But then I read some books repeatedly and every time I read the book I find a new perspevtive in the book which I missed in the last reading. Is this possibly because of fast or aggressive style of grasping the matter quickly in haste which possibly making us to understand the thing very superficially at the first time, when we read a book. The same chapter or Topic will give you very different perceiverence when read second or third time! Some times I feel that this may be again because of our mental maturity which has resulted in to better understanding of a particular topic in details . What do you think? Do you agree with me? Your participation will be highly appreciated ! Thanks!

When I really like the book, yes, I read it more than once. Sometimes, a few months or even years after. I also do these for series. Like Harry Potter. When the film version is about to be shown, I read the book all over again to refresh my meory of what happened in the story. happy [jammyt]

I'll read a book I like several times. I've read the third Harry Potter book way too many times. I also have a tendency to reread Neil Gaiman's work. I read To Kill A Mockingbird when I was 12 and hated it. I read it again when I was 15 and now it's one of my favorite books. So, yeah, I think I matured and then, well, "got" the book when I was older. [bwaybaby]

Ofcourse, I've read all Harry Potter many, many times - the magic just never ends! Oh, and i've read LOTR atleasr 3 times. Right now i'm reading the Inheritance Cycle (Eragon, ELdest, Brisingr) and i'm sure i'm gonna read it again when i finish it. It comes second to Harry Potter in terms of immersion in magic etc. Happy Mylotting! [uheaven]

When I have a favorite book, i usually read it twice especially when i can't rent or buy a new books. When reading the book twice, it can give you more understanding about the story you have been reading. I love reading fiction books especially when written by Sydney Shieldon and Danielle Steel. [aisaellis22]

well that happens to me too!! sometimes we are in such a hurry to complete the book and know what finally happens that we miss bits and pieces that are really worthwhile!! and then we have to re-read those parts after the first reading! But it does happen to me to re-read a book because its so good that you want to refresh your mind with it again! Scientific parts in a book really fascinates me, so I re-read them quiet often to keep them fresh in mind, not you? [shreshthajootun]

I do love reading books.I read action based, comedy and suspense thriller's books.Once I read a book I'll completely read it full devotion and concentration. So that I'll not miss any point of any situation.I never read a book for second time, because as I start reading it,my mind will be recalling the story. Then I will not feel the same thrill and I cannot read it with the same enthusiasm and interest.Yes I do agree with you that, reading for the second time will give us different ideas and different thoughts. But It makes me feel bored. Any way Have a nice day..!!! [dsharat]

Absolutely you are right.I used to read twice when I missed some excellent details! [Tracy_Z]

I keep most of my books I buy because I love to reread them. Right now I'm reading one that I've already read twice before. To me its no different than watching a favorite movie several times. I'm a huge Nora Roberts fan and I keep alot of her books on hand. [TessWhite]

I love reading and if I like a book I add it to my collectiona and then read it over and over. I agree with you , a book is like a wine older you go more fascinating the book becomes. Books just grow on your mind with repeated reading. Some books do shape your mind and attitude towards life.My husband often says that even comics if you read repeatedly your spoken language becomes stronger. [mansha]

How about more then twice? LOL. I've read Gone with the Wind about three or more times & I'm ready to read it yet again. I just have to buy a new copy LOL. My old copy started to get worn out. Pages started to fall out of it & everything LOL. [photographygirl73]

Ok, all I can say is this. I will only read a book a second or third more times if I truly enjoyed it the first time. I just recently started picking up books again. I have noticed that I don't generally pick up more reading any book multiple times, but it seems to me that I'm just trying to read it with the same intensity that I read it with the first time. This has not happened yet, but it doesn't mean I still don't enjoy the book very much. [cgobble]

Hello, Yes I've always done that my whole life, if the book is good, then yes I have read it more than once, some many many times...as you said there is always a little something missed that you grasp the second or third reading; I Just enjoy a good book; [dreamweaverjan]

Yes,I have some books at home, that I have been reading at least twice. I have found that you always miss some details if you are reading a good book once or twice. [Mickey_Mouse1]

I re-read books all the time! You often pick up on something that you didn't pick up on the first time, so I think it's very good to do this! You shouldn't read the same book for the rest of your life though, I guess you have to try new books as well, but there's nothing wrong with reading the same book twice! [GemmaR]

hey there, if i read a book and it is very interesting i woul read it more than once otherwise i would readit once [evilkid14]

once or twice maybe they were both novels "the prisoner of zenda" and "around the world in eighty days" both very interesting to me and i just read them twice after finishing them 2-3 months back while traveling and found it even more informative as i grasped many new things that i had missed in my first time. [amlegend]

If I really, really like the book I will read it again. Some books I have read over and over and over again. The most reads: Lord of the Rings Wizard of Oz Gone With the Wind The Foundation Trilogy [dawnald]

yes i do... specially when i love the contents of the book. [kayeshayne21]

I usually enjoy reading pocketbooks..there was this book that I had borrowed from a friend entitled "tell me your dreams" by danielle steel..and since those words are very deep, i had to read it twice to fully understand why the victim became the suspect..and there are three ladies involve..until i found that the victim had multiple personality disorder, and the three of them had been abused by her father when she was a kid, in the different cities that they lived..her personalities were born to protect herself..and she started killing men, until someone found out that she had that problem..it was a very interesting story and since i want to fully understand everything, i had to reread it..and reading it for the second and third time made me appreciate the story more.. happy day! [asselg1984]

I have read some books more than once the ones that come to mind are Thomas Hardy's "Tess of the D'Urbervilles" and "The Mayor of Casterbridge" and most of Jane Austen's books all of which are books to lose yourself in another time and place with engaging characters. I refuse to admit how many wet weekends in my life have been spent reading Daphne du Mauriers "Rebecca" are good old fashioned romantic thriller. [overhere]

I'm an avid reader myself. So yep, I've read books more than once before. Like the most recent one is IT by Stephen King. That's my favorite Stephen King book, so it's really easy for me to want to read that book more than once. [DarthJustice]

I don't think it is necessary that you read every book twice. Because that we just have a limited time and energy, so you should just read classical books twice, of course, you are right, if you read a book twice, you can understand some points better, but I think if the book is not classical, it is not worth reading. [neulichuang]

yes l agree with you very much ,i also love to read books ,i not only concern new books but i often read these old ones again and again ,just as what you said ,when you read a book at first time ,you may know nothing ,but when you read it again ,you will understand a little ,when you read the first time or more ,you may fully understand it meaning . [dpjddh03556462006]

I love to read and when I find one that I really enjoyed I keep it and will read it again. Then if it is a real keeper it stays. I share my books with others too, share the joy! Reading is a great past-time and a way to learn and just for entertainment in my opinion. [Ithink]

Normally I don't. but recently I have read a book, 'code name god' twice. [tapnaroy12]

I've read the Alchemist twice and there I have learned even something more. Also as a magician I read my books over and over again to get more insight on how to do a trick. Doing so makes me more polished in doing a trick and makes audiences happier. [magojordan]

To be honest, yes, well only to books i feel interested in such as Twilight series by Stephenie Myers and when i was a little younger, the 'Just' series by Andy Griffith. [rickiely]

Yes, I've read a book twice, three and four times. It's amazing what can be picked up with further readings. [derek_a]

no, i don't ever read one twice no matter how much i enjoy it. i love to read& have read all my life but like new things to read. don't like watching reruns on tv either, do you? [ANTIQUELADY]

No, I only read a book twice and just keep if for sometime and most of the time I give it someone or other people who need it except for my dictionary. [iyah10]

I usually keep the books I like, so that I can read them over and over again. I must have read my collection of Sherlock Holmes, Ed McBain, Lawrence Sanders and horror stories more than twice. Right now, I have a lot of books unread, due to too many book sales. I can't walk out of any bookshop or sale without buying a book. And most of the time, I end up with more than one book. [lazeebee]

Yes, if enough time has passed I love to re-read books that I really liked. I've re-read a couple of Joanne Harris books (she wrote chocolat), as I love them so much. They are really magical stories, and are a great escape, and each time I read them I notice things that I hadn't noticed before! I also sometimes re-read books that I read when I was a child. A few years ago I read The Enchanted Wood and The Magic Faraway Tree, two books by Enid Blyton that I hadn't read for a good few years, and they were great! [liquorice]

There are many books that I have read more than twice. Some because as I have matured I have returned to them to gain new understanding and some simply because I love them. Some are fiction some are not. Fountainhead, Atlas Shrugged, We the Living: Ayn Rand Marcus Arelius City of God and Confessions: St. Augustine The Hobbit and The Trilogy Just to name a few [lvaldean]

I have read a few books more than once, but not so many. I tend to read a book once and then I'm done with it. There are infrequent exceptions, of course. Tolkien was one such exception. [DaddyOfTheRose]

hi... well, it is a favorite book, or if the book is interesting.. i would have read it more than 2x...maybe 15-30 times in a period 3 years... hehehehe.... LOL... though i try to space it so i can forget the details... even just a bit to make the story as interesting as it was when i first read it. happy mylotting. [shiloh_222]

Excellent discussion. Yes, I totally agree. I read all the time and I enjoy new books but I do have some that are favorites that I like to read again. I'm not sure if it's because I'm caught up in the story the first time around but sometimes when re-reading, I'll notice more details. And the perspective is definitely different if read years later, as you said, mental maturity. Just recently I re-read a book that I read about 20 years ago. I disliked the main character but upon re-reading, I saw him from a completley different perspective, I understood what he was trying to achieve and this time around I respected the character. Obviously I'm 20 years older and have a much broader life and world experience, and that made all the difference. The character didn't change, I did, I grew up and was able to see it from a different point of view. [thelastwolf113]

Yes, I agree with you completely! I do that more with series like Harry Potter. I have read all of them a few times. There is another author I love to read (Terry Goodkind) the Sword of Truth series. It's a fantasy series about magic, wizards, confessors, etc. There is so much in that series and so many details about everything and by far the best I have ever read. There is a lot to it and I love reading more than once. I think I have read through the series 3 times now. The only kind of books that I do not read over and over are thrillers like Stephen King books. I love reading his books but most of those ones, it takes a while for me to read those ones again. But yes, I love re-reading my favorite books! [dustinnikki]

I re-read books the same way I watch movies I like, TV shows I've seen before or listen to favourite music. I never find it boring and often notice things I didn't appreciate the first time round. I love reading and often prefer the book to a film or TV adaptation. Firstly they often miss parts out that explain the story and sometimes the characters just don't fit my 'mental' picture of them. I love thrillers and an example of this is Agatha Christie's Poirot. Peter Ustinov and David Suchet have both played the role, but for me Suchet looked just as I imagined the detective to be! Ustinov always looked scruffy and didn't fit the description in the books! [Annmac]

I have readLOrd of the Rings 4 times and loved it each time. Thats my record, usually it's just once. [savypat]

Hello AKRao24, No, I never read a book twice again entirely. I'll just go to some chapter I like and read them again. I think I read one book again because I already forgot it's background and details. Another book I read regularly and repeatedly is the Bible. You have to keep reading it to give you new perspective and keep your faith alive. It is a great book and should be read constantly. Have a blessed day. Regards. ninjaninjaninja [robert19ph]

i have read many books twice. i love to read and i read fast. some times when i run out of books i'll reread those i've read before. each time, i'll see something new. this could be due to the change in thinking in me, or i missed it the last time round. therefore, i don't mind reading a book two, three or even four times. only thing is i must have enjoyed it the first time round. cheers ;p [applefreak]

I re-read books because I want to revisit friends and while I might know the end, I don't remember little things that I enjoy [ElicBxn]

I have never readed a book twice, because it sames little borring if I do that , and beside what is the point of reading a book twice ?? [cossacks10]

I agreed with you.. I like to read book many many time... because i feel that always time I read the book again, I can get other views on that book... so i like to read book many many times.... [candysky]
