I am a avid reader. How many other avid readers are out here on myLot? How many books do you read in a month? How many in a year? Do you read traditional print books or online e-books? What about magazines? Do you prefer to read them online or in print format?

responses and comments:
I can get through at least twenty a month, but then I read more than one book at a time. I like print books, because I can't afford any ebooks and I have a lot of print books. I also listen to them on cd [kitttenskysong]
You are so much liek me, I read 20 or even more...everywhere I go, from bed ot bathroo, even if is it just to the supermarket, I have a book with me. Sometimes, I have a book in virtually eveyr room of the house and in my laptop bag as well as my desk at work. So that means, in the space of a day I can read one book or parts of several books. [gtdonna]
The last book I read was, the book that President Elect Obama wrote, to me it was a very good book, I got it from the library, I have finished reading it I am thinking about buying my own copy, but I do most of my reading fron online, I am either reading the news, or either reading discussions here in Mylot.happy [notlistening2]
Glad to know that was a good book. I wasn't referring to reading discussions...I don't really count that as reading. It's good though that you read other items online, such as newspapers. Knowledge empowers us. Thanks for responding. [creativedreamweaver]
I love to read as well but I have to admit that lately I have not been reading as much as I usually do. Not because I don't have the time, I have plenty of time, but unfortunately I have not been able to find any books lately that I can get myself really excited about. There are lots of the classics that I sort of want to read, but because I haven't been able to get myself really excited about reading them, I haven't even started them. In the past I have read all of my books in print. I used to get them from the bookstore, but lately I have cut back on my spending and have been spending more time at the library. I like reading things inprint because I can take them with me when I go different places and they don't give me a headache like reading from the computer can. But since I have become a member of myLot, I have been using my computer much more and I have become much more aware of exactly how much is available online. SInce I have discovered eBooks I have been reading them as well, but I try to only get books that I can have for free because I still don't want to spend a lot of money on books right now. Another positive of eBooks as opposed to regular print books is that you keep them all on your computer so they don't clutter up your house. [kkthom3]
My house is over-run with books, so I guess e-books would be a good alternative. Where do you find free e-books online? I know what you mean about a tight book budget. We are undergoing the same thing right now. The library is a long ways a way too. Thanks for the response. [creativedreamweaver]
we as a family go to the library about once every other week or so and everyone loads up on books. as for me, i dont read fiction (well, hardly ever) so i usually get out art books, decorating books or history books (i am a history fanatic) and i do try to read for a half an hour or so at night before i go to bed but i dont keep track of how many books i read during a month. [cher913]
That's great. I used to love taking the kids to the library. I am a firm believer in the library system. We lost our local library due to state/county funding for almost a year. It is reopened now and managed through a private contractor and through mostly donations. [creativedreamweaver]
I do not read that much, the most i ever read is a PTC website or some other get paid to website but i dont read that well, i can read alot of stuff as long as it is english language and i have the urge to read, thanks [keith12345]
Sorry, but I don't count ptc sites as reading. I meant books, magazines, and newspapers primarily. Didn't mean to confuse anyone. I guess I should have been more specific. Thanks for your response. [creativedreamweaver]
I can go through as many as thirty books a month. Although when I start reading that much I find that I soon run out of material to read. Because my favorite authors are not writing fast enough to keep me in fresh reading material I try to pace myself and even reread some of my favorites. I have read an ebook once before but it just wasn't the same. There is something about holding the printed page in my own hands that makes it much more enjoyable. [savak03]
Wow...30. That's great. I know what you mean about your favorite authors not keeping up, lol. I have that problem to. I have yet to read an e-book all the way through. I agree there is nothing like holding a book in your hands to really make you feel the story. [creativedreamweaver]
I love to read. I would say, I average 2-3 books a week, depending on how hectic my schedule and the length of the books. I would usually read before I go to bed, during my lunch break at work, and whatever free time I have. I prefer books in print, though once in a while I would read an e-book if I cannot get a copy of it in print or if it is not available in print. Add to that I usually finish 1-2 audiobooks a week, that I listened to while driving back and forth to work daily. So that would be a total of 3-5 books a week. I don't read magazines nor newspapers. I'm on a constant diet of fiction books, and my current addiction is paranormal romance novels. Still my reading taste is pretty eclectic and I would pretty much read anything that I find interesting. [wayz12]
Thanks for the advice on the e-book reader. Two of my favorites are Bertrice Small and Linda Lael Miller. Yours? [creativedreamweaver]
I love to read but generally only have time to read about one book a week. I prefer paperbacks but I asked for a Kindle for Christmas. Presently reading "The Perfect Summer" by Luanne Rice and "Twilight" by Stephenie Meyer. I'm usually much more of a mystery fan but I always make an exception for Luanne Rice and I'm reading "Twilight" to see what all of the hype is about. Really not into magazines that much but when I do read them, I prefer print format. [LaurenInLA]
I heard "Twilight" is a great book, but the movie is subpar. It is one I am looking forward to reading. I like print magazines over online as well. I fear the furture is going the way of online though. Thanks for the response. [creativedreamweaver]
I actually read a lot. I read a paper every day (decent, not tabloid) and I read a lot of blogs. I also try to read one book minimum a month. I am a huge fan of classical literature, and find myself often losing myself in one. [Hyde21k]
I read our paper online (the local news), lol. I love classic literature as well. I especially love Charlotte Bronte. I almost always end up losing myself in whatever book I am devouring at the moment. Thanks for your response. [creativedreamweaver]
I love to read, but they have to be paper books. I cant get comfortable reading at a computer lol... I read about 2-3 books a weeks depending on how tired I am. I mostly read in bed. My favorite books would be crime thrillers. My son has my love of books too. I always find him asleep with a book on his pillow lol. [elemental69]
Isnt' it wonderful to pass down our love of reading to our kids. Both my kids, now grown, still love to pick up a book and read. It is one of the greatest gifts we can give to our children. I too have a hard time getting comfortable enough to read a book at the computer. Thanks for sharing. [creativedreamweaver]
I don't read enough.... I do read loads on the pc, children's school books etc. I don't read magazines, only read the free newspapers that come through the door. I haven't read many books this year, which is digusting as I used to read at least one or two novels a week, even after having four children. A few years ago I realised that I hadn't read hardly any books in the year so my new year's resution was to read 52 books the following year. I did it over the year as some weeks I have more time to read and if a book is really good I can read it in a couple of days. Now I got to 46 books, which was very good as the year before i only read about three books! Now this hasn't happened since so I'm going to do it again next year, try and read 52 books, my aim is to at least beat 46. I keep a list and a comment about what I thought ot the book. They are going to be print formant as I do like to read in bed and our pc is not a lap top [Anne18]
You gave me a great idea. I too used to read more than I do now. I think I will also challenge myself to read 52 books in the coming year. We can do it. Mine too will be in print form, as I don't have a laptop either. I read a lot of artilces online from a content site that I write for occasionally, but I am missing reading the amount of books I used to read. So maybe we can team up for this 52 week challenge? [creativedreamweaver]
I read a couple of books a month. I also read a few magazines...not including about 7 or 8 trade magazines on-line and a whole bunch of other informational white papers and reports. My job does depend upon reading. [kdhartford]
That's really good. Work reading isn't reading for enjoyment though, is it? I know what that can be like. Thanks for responding. [creativedreamweaver]
i love to read. besides my wonderful family and friends, it's the one thing that brings me true pleasure. i don't read magazines much, and i don't do to much online reading. i like to go to the book store and find something i want, buy it and just dive right in. i would say i read at least 3 books a week. that depends on my work week. but i try to get in at least 3 a week [34momma]
if i shop online then i am going to buy used books, but mostly i will just go in a book store and pick up a few [34momma]
ewll normally with university its 2 books a month otherwise its 4 to 5 books a month! happylottin! [thecrazyjogger]
I wouldn't call myself a chronic reader but I do give time for reading also. I used to read a lot of fiction novels when I was in seventh and eighth grade. But later on I got more interested in smaller articles such as magazines, newspapers, the books etc. I now read almost the complete newspaper everyday and have subscribed to a lot of magazines which are either a fortnight or monthly. I prefer reading magazines in hardcopy rather than soft copy. Because I sometimes need to cut out images or articles for future reference. [zeethegr8]
I like magazines in hard copy as well, and for the same reason. I cut out things that interest me, or a good recipe I want to try. I subscribe to about 5 different magazines. I read my newspaper online though. [creativedreamweaver]
i really like to read specially fiction but unfortunately for me, work is grabbing all my time so I only have time to read on weekend, maybe a book or two in a month but that's not too consistent. there's some month that i haven't read any. i like the traditional print books. e-books give makes my eyes teary from the computer screen. do you have any good books to recommend? i would love to take some suggestions. [the_dutchess]
What genre of fiction is your favorite, then I may be able to recommend a few. I love mainly historical fiction (with a romance element), but I read just about anything. I can't read well off the computer screen either. [creativedreamweaver]
I really cant state how many books I read in a month or year. However I could read about 15-20 in a month. I read rather quickly and once I have a good book infront of me I just dont stop. I miss meals sometimes. I like print books because I can actually hold them in my hands, to me thats an integral part of the reading process. I have read a few ebooks and it was really hard for me to do so. I like being able to go outside and just find a nice spot to read and while I can carry my laptop outside, its just not the same experience. [sunshine1010]
I agree it isn't the same. I have to be holding the book, it's all part of the experience. You read many books, lol. I wish I had time for that many. I'm like you though, once I get into a good book, I can't put it down. I miss meals, and everything around me is a blur. Thanks for the repy. [creativedreamweaver]
I used to read print books and only read one per year, sometimes even less. Now I usually read one audiobook per week. I have taken my hatred for reading and turned it into a love of reading through audio. [Pigglies]
It's sad that you hate to read, but I guess audio is better than not reading at all. I am glad you found that medium so you can at least enjoy a good book. Thanks for sharing. [creativedreamweaver]
I would be considered an avid reader. However, in the last couple of years I have switched gears and began writing more than reading. I also have begun to self-teach myself how to paint, draw and sketch based on my writings. I enjoy both hobbies very much and plan on continuing. In a month, I probably read a couple (2) books. In a year, probably 10-12. I do read some magazines, mostly political and religious as well as sports. I also read on-line ebooks when I want to do something a little different. These are usually self-help or religious in nature. I also listen to audio books when I am driving. Still, the best format is print. [davebrown64]
Wow, you are a busy woman. I too am a writer...working on two different novels right now, plus writing content for a website. I love writing, but find that reading makes me a much better writer. You are well read though even reading two books a month. Thanks for your response and best of luck writing, painting, and with your other creative endeavors. [creativedreamweaver]
There are many avid readers around myLot. I have enjoyed talking about reading with a few of them. I am one myself. Although my reading amount has drastically fallen off in the last several years. There is something about reading a book and talking on the telephone that causes my son to become suddenly very needy of mommy's attention. I read TONS of children's books. Maurice Saudek, Eric Carle, and Dr. Suess are all very popular in our home! [makingpots]
I know what you mean about "needy" children. Mine were that way when they were young. Everytime I got into doing something, they wanted my attention. I'm kind of glad they are grown up now and I have time for me. I love Dr. Suess. Thanks for responding. [creativedreamweaver]
I haven't bought books for a long time, because I find reading on line is very convenient and save money~ But the feeling is different from reading in hand. I remembered the old time in school, the books either bought or borrowed attract me deeply~Sometimes I read it until wee hours, But now it doesn't happened! In fact,I yearned for those days~~ [laura850511]
You should pick up a book again. There is a certain magic in holding and book in your hand, reading, and turning the page. Thanks for your response. [creativedreamweaver]
This year until today,I read almost 28 books- classics, philosophy- mostly of an academic nature, now I'm finishing "Twilight". I mostly spent my time reading at night, how about you? [sarawaken]
"Twilight" is on my list of want to reads. I am currently in between books, but the next one will probably be "Highland Bride", by Bertrice Small. 28 is a good number of books. Thanks for your response. [creativedreamweaver]
I too am an avid reader. I read a lot of books. I enjoy all different kinds too. I also like reading magazines. I like Good housekeeping & other magazines like that. I can read 2 mid size books a week (if i'm no too busy). I read traditional books, i've actually never read an ebook. [halynn]
I prefer traditional books as well. It's too hard to read on a computer screen. The words seem got get all jumbled for me. Besides I like the feel of holding a book as I read. I read magazines both in print and online though, because articles are short. Thanks for your response. [creativedreamweaver]
I read quite a bit they used to tell me that I could read a book in a days time but I need to find one that will keep my interest wether it be mystery or romance I think they are mostly the same and I can read for hours never heard of ebooks but will check it out thanks. [kylanie]
I love historical romance, with actual history, the best. I also enjoy a good mystery. I too can read for hours. Thanks for your response. [creativedreamweaver]
printed books of course I get 3 books at a time at the liabrary and I get to keep them 3 weeks most of the time I get them read before time. They are pretty thick so takes awhile and lately I have got ones I have already read and I just think they are new. GUess I will have to find more Authors that I like! [Lakota12]
thanks I really do and glad that I can drive and have my own car I can go any time I want to. [Lakota12]
I love to read also. If I'm reading for pleasure, I like to read print books or even listen to audio books. I read I guess about 6-8 books per month. I don't read magazines much. I generally just flip through them and may be just read an article or two if it is about something that interests me. [Charente]
6-8 books a month is great. I had no idea how many book lovers we have here at mylot. I think it's fantastic. I don't listen to audio books, but may have to give them a try one of these days. Thanks for responding. [creativedreamweaver]
i read more storey books and puzzles because i love them very much on the internet also i spend much time solving puzzles [saichandtalluri]
Story books are good. It's good you can read on the internet. What type of puzzles do you like? Thanks for your response. [creativedreamweaver]
I don't have much time to read because my kids and my job. I'm lucky if I can get one a month. Although, I do keep a look out for books on CD. I deliver pizzas, and if I find the book I want to read on CD, I pop that into my CD player and "read" it that way. [CRSunrise]
I know, sometimes our busy schedules make it difficult to find time to read, but I still try to make the time. It's great you are able to listen to books on CD though. Thanks for the response. [creativedreamweaver]
oh i used to read a lot since my school days ...from enid blyton to hardy boys and nancy drew books, and then i came into college so i was allowed to read adult novels like those of sydney sheldon, daniel steel, robin cook, grisham, dan brown(recently) i love nicholas sparks romantic novels out of which three have been turned into movies.... i loved to read and still do love it but dont read too often now a days as i should say that there are a lot of other things on my mind now other than books.... thats how grown ups speak i guess...but i do read whenever i do get some time..mostly when im travelling as i travel a lot.... but reading is a very good habit... your imagination and creativity becomes much better by reading and i always advice all my friends to start reading even they hate reading !! [shonali]
I understand that. It's great you encourage your friends to read. I have several friends/relatives that I try to inspire to read. Thanks for your reply and happy reading. [creativedreamweaver]

[shonali]
I love reading anything, but I tend to mostly read news and stuff on the internet and countless books all the time I've always liked reading though, writing too happy [louise99]
Yeah, definitely - it helps with writer's block too [louise99]
well I am an avid reader and sometimes I can read up to 7 books in a week depending how much free time I have since I have kids. LOL I read both ebook and traditional print format. Magizines is a not so much thing for me and I usually read them in print format. [bellaofchaos]
Seven is great. I wish I had time to read seven. I am shooting for one a week for the coming year. I do read a lot of magazines though, both in print and online. I still haven't really tried the ebook thing. I like holding a book in my hands. Thanks for the response. [creativedreamweaver]
Last year it was my resolution to read more and I have to proudly say I kept that one. Because I do not have as much time as I would like and I have to get some sleep for my job I try to read on average two books a month. It depends on the book. The ones I am reading now by nicholas sparks I can kick out in one to two days. So sometimes I average 3-4 in a month. I like to read traditional books. I checked out the e-books stuff and it's not for me. As a hopeful future writer I have to admit I love to look at the jackets on books and read all the bios with their pictures...I am a sucker for the traditional when it comes to writing. I subscribe toWriter's Digest and Glamour mag....covers everything a woman my age should know in the world fro fashion to news to publishing... I wish I knew how many I read in a lifetime. [taface412]
I agree, reading does help inspire us in our writing. I also subscribe to Writer's Digest and several other magazines. I too love reading the jackets and author bios. E-books just don't compare, in my opinion. I'd like to know how many books I've read in my lifetime too. Wouldn't that be interesting to know. Thank you for your response. [creativedreamweaver]
HI frnds, i am a very much reader.I will read when i get a free time i will reader.Readind is my habbit daily i will read a newspaper.i will read a magazines,novels,computer books,detective books,etc happy day, [23uday]
That's great. Reading everyday is such a wonderful habit to have. Happy reading. Thank you for your response. [creativedreamweaver]
hi... i won't prefer for reading books. if i feel alone i prefer for reading book. i prefer for the magazines and stories book like horror or thriller stories..... [naveensingani]
You are reading though, so that is good. Thanks for your response. [creativedreamweaver]
I average 5 books a week. I love to read and since I am retired I have much more time. I made the mistake of buying the Kindal from Amazon. What started out as a grate idea is now a pain in the backside. The slightest move turns the page back or forth or you lose it all together. If I read a book that I would like to give to someone else I can't. As for how much you pay for the books($10), you can go to the Library and get them free. Sorry about going off on a tangent about this but I think people who read a lot should know this is not for people who enjoy sharing books. I read most every subject. My favorites are mysteries. Especially ancients mysteries. Every thing from Egypt, Rome and China to the present. I will not knowingly read a dirty book and if I am reading a book I am enjoy otherwise I just turn the pages. I love Nora Roberts but she can get graphic so I turn the page. Here a funny story. I love Julie Garwood and think her work is the most romantic books around. I am talking about a few years ago when I wrote to her and said I would love to give my granddaughter her books but they were just to graphic for a preteen. That's the year Clinton made oral sex very public and my granddaughter and I had a discussion I would have never thought possible. She is now a grown woman getting married in a few months and she still laughs at the look on my face when she brought up the subject of oral sex. [patms1]
Thanks for the warning about the Kindal. I had actually looked into that at one point, but decided against it because of money. I love Julie Garwood as well. I like how she always incorporates some form of humor into her writing. I don't mind the sex scenes so much. That is hilarious about having to explain oral sex to your granddaughter. Many I bet that was a tough discussion, lol. Thanks for responding. [creativedreamweaver]
I'm an avid reader here also, but I gave up keeping track of just how much I read. I know how much I still have to wade through by the stacks of books that I still have laying around. I refuse to read e-books and will not even take a look at the Kindle. Nice device, but I like the feel of a book in my hands. DCMerkle [DCMerkle]
I love reading too.But I dont read that much like you.First of all,I work 12 hours per day and spend 2 hours on my way.The second is my reading speed is not so fast.Plus, sometimes I am easy to dream about what I read...LOL [freda529]
I used to read 3-6 books a month, but these days I'm lucky to finish 1 or 2 a month, it kind of interfers with my crafting and mylotting. [ElicBxn]
I am also a reader but have found that I haven't read as much as I used to as a younger woman. I used to carry a book with me wherever I went and was always reading something. I do read now whenever I have the chance and probably have 100 books waiting for me. I also am behind in my magazine reading, except for my People, which I read every week. I buy books at yard/garage sales or second hand stores and have 3 different subscriptions to magazines, but only keep up with one of them. [idowrite72]
I read a lot. I try to read some serious books, too, but I enjoy a whole lot of fluff fiction and lately I've been reading some celebrity memoirs too. I am not as into magazines now as I once was, but I do check out a few magazines online. I probably read 50 books last year, and will read at least that many this year. I generally have at least 2 going at the same time, and I love to reread too, if it was something I enjoyed. While I like the magazines online, I prefer a hard copy book to read. Sometimes I like books on tape too. [tentwo67]
I sell used books for a living so you bet, I love to read. But I don't have a lot of time to do it, so I am for the most part a toilet reader (I know gross), that is the only time I really have time to sit down and read. I don't like reading things like stories on the internet because I work on the computer all day long. When I am reading I like to relax and change things up a bit. Personally I am against e-books because if more people read books that way it will eventually put me out of business, but I also prefer reading actual books. I read at least 2 or 3 books a month, and that is not including audio books, I always listen to audio books in my car while I am driving, I usually go through 2 of those a month, or more or less depending on how long they are. [ladym33]
Sadto say I dont read as much as I used to as least with regard to traditional print .Now most of my reading is done online and that is usually limited to news on yahoo, emails and since the advent of mylot ,mylot discussions. There was a time when I was younger I would read three four books a week especially when I was on holidays ,then came work and that stopped .Now if I read one book per year ,thats a lot .I hope to get back to my reading though but dont know when I will get the time [ronnyb]
I love to read. I prefer magazines over books, and I read probably 10-15 per month. I read when I am watching TV, a movie, before bed, etc. When I read books, I like non-fiction how-to or decorating books. I prefer to read books in print, rather than online. I do love to read how to articles and decorating/parenting articles online. [ExecutiveCEO]
I like to read all the time but sometimes I get so bzy, I dont read anything but emails and news lines :( I like print format better but the online Ebooks is great for searching, I said this in another posts of mine, but online gives you the ability to go beyond your reading material and search right after you read or while you are reading if you have any difficulties understanding any part of the book. Thx [Shery32]
