This discussion is in honor of a new myLot friend. His English is not perfect yet, but I like that he tries to use complete sentences and explain his feelings in detail. Sometimes new people are just here to make a little money and they use as few words as possible. This new friend makes it seem that he is actually interested in what people say.
I like to welcome new people to myLot and it does not matter at all to me whether or not they have perfect English as long as they are fair-minded and interesting and have something to share.
But I remember how confusing myLot was to me when I first came here. Some people love to start new discussions and some would prefer to just comment on the discussions other people start. I like to start a new one once in a while, but my many myLot friends keep me very busy just replying.
How about you? Would you start more discussions if you had time? Do you feel a little guilty if you don't reply to the discussions that your friends start?
Do you enjoy reading what others write or just think of it as a duty?
[question posted by drannhh]
responses and comments:
I respond to the discussions I find that I can respond to. Whether it be friends or not. I will go back to a discussion later if I think of something, sometimes it's months later and I had forgotten about the discussion! I think it's better to just do what you feel comfortable with. If you're here for money, respond, discuss and comment as you wish as long as it's within guidelines. If you're here for friendship or advice, then still follow guidelines, but maybe not worry about being as punctual... Or be punctual for both counts, whether it be for money or for friendship. [SomeCowgirl]
I know I can find myself to be confused by the guidelines as well! please forgive my delay in responding, I am trying to be better about that, but am afraid once I start work it will only be worse. [SomeCowgirl]
Thank you for your welcome "drannhh"... I say Mylot is better for both. If we read it is worth for our mind, we can upgrade our knowledge according to the topics. But writing benefits more than reading in mylot, because mylot pays for our writings(typing). So here both Reading and Writing are mutually exclusive. Now I'm jumping to answer your next question... If I have any doubt and if I can express it in mylot, next moment I'll just start my new discussion. I'm just lagging on commenting the other discussions which I've never responded. More often I enjoy reading other discussions. [earndeep]
Glad to have your insight. I always find that when I am reading discussions other people start that gives me ideas to start my own. I like to see all the different comments other people make in discussions started by my friends. That usually leads to new friends, too :-) [drannhh]
Hi Dr., As you have said that our beloved sites of myLot.com is one of the best site in the history of the Internet and also many more hundreds of peoples already been as a members in order to have the good fun and activity. As you have said that this is the place to learn the good reading and also to learn the English knowledge , so try your best to participate more and more here to have the good ability in the English languages. I am wishing you best of luck to have the great chance to learn all the things from this wonderful site. Have a good day. [Binthu]
Even for those of us who are native speakers of English, there are many interesting things to learn on myLot. Thank you for your ideas, and I hope you will have good earnings here too. [drannhh]
Hi drannhh How are you doing today? Good I hope. It is only Tuesday and I have had such a stressful two days. I looking forward to tomorrow with the hopes that it will be better.... I always try to respond to my friends. I have a few that I keep close tabs on. Most of the others I try to respond to the ones that I know how to give a comment on. There is alot of discussions that I have no ideal what they are talking about and it is hard for me to respond. Maybe I should just give some kind of comment to let them know that I did notice their discussion. Have a great day and keep smiling... [rosepedal64]
happySmiling!happy [drannhh]
When I come to Mylot, I like to write because, that is how I make my earnings,I read discussion but i earn my money off of replying to discussions, so I like writing better here on Mylot, I don't start many discussions, but I like to respond to a lot of discussions.happy [notlistening2]
You make a good point that there are two ways to earn by writing on myLot: 1) by starting our own discussions, and 2) we can earn by commenting on the discussions other people start. [drannhh]
I like writing, but I like reading too. The reason I joined here was to have a place to get advice, share stories, and get paid. I know there must be some reader only people here, but I don't understand them. They just read others' discussions and never have an opinion of their own that they feel like sharing? That sounds like someone with self-esteem issues. [cripfemme]
Truly, and that is why we call them lurkers, but some people here start a lot of discussions and then never even read the responses they get. For me that would sort of defeat the whole idea of a discussion. [drannhh]
The reason I am a member of MyLot is of course because I like to be paid for my opinions. Why not be paid to do something that I do every day on a daily basis for enjoyment? However, the choice of topics to which I respond is not simply a means of exploiting the system and making as much money as possible. I choose to reply to discussions which I am personally interested in or feel I have something to say about. Some of the most intelligent and profound discussions I've ever held have been through the medium of MyLot and it is refreshing to meet people with such challenging outlooks on life. People who I would not otherwise encounter. Having the opportunity to share with people what I really think in response to their questions is brilliant. The money, while an incentive, plays little part else in it than that. I don't often respond to topics specifically posted by my friends for the sake of it unless I have something interesting to say. Many a time before have I started discussions which have yielded no responses. Often I see typical conversations with little thought put into them which exist purely to attract as many people as possible to leave a comment. These strike me as people who simply want quick and easy answers to increase their revenue and don't engage my interest. I won't spend time answering questions if I feel the person asking them isn't truly interested in what I have to say. Unfortunately commitments outside of MyLot mean that I don't have a lot of time to dedicate to keeping up with discussions, especially if people comment on my opinions. I would start more MyLot discussions if I knew of ways to engage other users in a meaningful debate. If there was a question I wanted a genuine and widely sourced answer to or if I simply wanted to encourage inspirational thought. In conclusion, though, MyLot is a hobby for me and nothing else. [eloouuu]
It was an awesome response. I need to start more discussions so that I can get more comments from eloouuu [drannhh]
hi drannhh,i am new here, first i thought that we can earn money in this site just by posting,so i used to select many topics, slowly my mind changes,i love here to start discussion ,if any thing really i want to discuss and i give response to the discussion only if i am interested in those topic or anythings to say, some discussion i just read alone,in order to know about others opinion.so i too both read and write. [itzmee1009]
Hello, itzmee. I am glad that you found my discussion interesting enough for a reply. Welcome to myLot. I must say it has a way of changing one's mind. It is very easy to become addicted to myLot after a while. [drannhh]
Hey drannhh! I love to just reply to discussions and that is pretty much what I'm known for! In fact, when I do start a new discussion my friends tease me about it! I did happen to start one tonight, but that is a different issue. It was because there was something upsetting me that I needed to talk about, but that is an unusual occurence for me! I'd much rather respond to my friends discussions because that is what I feel more comfortable doing! And as for your new friend, please point me to him and it would be my pleasure to help him in anyway that I can! I don't believe that someone has to have perfect English to get around here! A true mylotter will help anyone, if they really care, and I am a true mylotter! I love to make new friends, especially ones that are from different parts of the globe! That is what mylot started this forum for! Please let your friend know that I would love to be his friend too! Hugs, Opal [Opal26]
Well, it has been two weeks and he has not found it yet, but he has been busy starting his own, which is sort of poetic if you think about it. blush [drannhh]
I always make an effort to read my friends topics to see what's going on in their worlds and that they are okay.Sometimes when I write topics I jumble my words and forget to check it and everyone kind enough to overlook it when I have a word salad moment..lol.I wish I was able to write more topics to share with the masses but mainly I reply more then write I think I am too unfocused to start topics but find so many interesting things my friends and fellow mylotters write, that I spend more time doing that.I enjoy reading things on here for fun more then anything.I have been off and on Mylot since I got here and it still confuses me at times.lol!I think your friend is doing just fine and I love when someone shows interest in what I write too. and understands where I am coming from.x [faeryoftheshire1]
This is so true. Some of the things that interest me do not appeal to the average member, if there is such a thing here. But I am getting many nice responses to this one. Yes, word salad moments. Everyone has those, and what a nice expression you have coined there. [drannhh]
I think eloouuu's comment says it all, because that's exactly how I look at MyLot too. She certainly deserves a BR from you! I don't start many of my own discussions these days because of other commitments, but I try to reply to most of my friends' discussions, as and when I can. That keeps me quite busy - and yes, I do enjoy reading my friends' discussions. I believe in quality, not quantity. [abbey19]
Yes, being a retired English teacher, I read eloouuu's first sentence and said to myself, "This is going to be an A+" Being a good myLot friend can keep one busy! But this is how we learn new things. I think we learn more from following other's discussions than from just starting our own. [drannhh]
i spend more time to response other's dicussion ,but i don't response all of the new discussion ,including my friends ,one way i don't have enough time ,one way some discussion i'm not interested in that ,i cannot say something on that .i don't want to reply just a few words .but i often start a new discussion everyday ,say the things i want to say ,share with the friends from all over the world, the feeling is great .i enjoy it . [doreencoco]
Welcome to myLot. It sounds like you are off to a great start. More words are better. [drannhh]
I am newbie here and I'm still figuring it out. My friend is been a member for a quite sometime and I'm so thankful that she introduce mylot to me. I enjoyed a lot responding discussion here makes you forget that you earn money of what you love to do. It's just fun. [anabella26]
Hello anabella. It is nice that you have a friend to introduce you to myLot and show you a few tricks. I too completely forget about the money sometimes. [drannhh]
Great discussions! I do think it's the both important..but it's all depend of the myloters. some are prefer to read more here, others write more..but all mylotter have to do the both if they want earn and keep contact! Surely we read a lot of things here. Me too, my english wasnt's great but now,, it's better.. but like I said in other discussion, I was more good in english writting than oral..so here, I just increase more my english writting!wink [julie85]
haha surely maybe because i love reading and mostly I start discussion about that haha! [julie85]
...Hi drannah. I think it is interesting to read what others are saying. There are so many different perspectives on so many different subjects that you are always learning something new. I also like to write comments if I think I have something that would be of value to the conversation. There are things that I have learned since I started on the site that I never knew before. So this site is very educational and interesting. Take it easy. Good luck to your new friend. [artistry]
Thank you for welcoming my new friend and for your valuable comments. I see you are approaching your 500th post. That is when things start getting even more interesting. [drannhh]
I love reading what others wrote. There are so many interesting discussions started constantly. I also enjoy writing and seeing what responses my discussions get. Sometimes, I feel guilty a bit if people respond to my discussion, and read it, but don't reply. There are many reasons why this happens. It's all good, in the end, as Mylot is foremost about enjoying the experience. This is reflective in almost every person I've met on here. Such nice people! :-) [ringbearer25]
When I have been away for a few days I just have to delete all my myLot notifications without looking at any because my mailbox is just too full. But I know my friends understand. [drannhh]
For me, It is better to read. I am a new user, i can learn much from mylot. When I have experience, I will write. [luckymagic]
Soon you will have a lot of experience, but I am glad that you chose to write here in my discussion, especially since you have such a cute avatar. Welcome to myLot! [drannhh]
I love reading so I like to read what people write. I may not have a response to some discussions but I still read them anyway cause I enjoy reading. It is good for people to express thier feelings when starting up discussions. It really makes it worth the while [lindiebiz]
Hi, lndiebiz. I see you are almost to the magic 500. That will open some doors, figuratively speaking. Yes, I think some of the people here are quite genuine. More so perhaps than in real life. It is nice. [drannhh]
I think mylot make us happy and we can learn more , it is not our duty to reply. We enjoy it, read and participate in the discussion that we are intetested in it. And we start a new discuss that we want to share or know something. It will make us tried if we have to reply for all friends new discuss. Maybe we can earn money, but do not care for it more, it is our luck if we can earn the money with enjoying the life. [Lornal]
Welcome to myLot Lornal, and I hop you find many discussions that you are interested in. Thank you for sharing your ideas here. [drannhh]
As far as I'm concerned, If I have a lot of time to spend on mylot, I may choose to Write a new discussion. But if I just have a little which means I may consider something simply. Then I may go to reply some other's discussions. I want to know What other mylots are doing now. Happyy mylot. [monkeylong]
That is exactly how I do it, too. Wow, you are only 6 posts away from getting your first star. I hope it is a pretty one! [drannhh]
i kinda like reading but still i like 2 response in every topic i read or interests me.. [katuray]
Sometimes I start typing a response while I am still reading a discussion. Welcome to myLot and I hope you will enjoy your membership here for a long time ;-) [drannhh]
when i first came here as tattylashes i was so overwhelmed about how it worked here that it did take me some time to get used to it, but with a little help from my nice friends i managed to master it, ok i have made a few mistakes along the way but they have been corrected, and yes i do feel guilty at times when i don't respond to my friends discussions, but i do try my best, i try to spend my spare time here and my other time is in my home and with my family, so i try to juggle both and catch up if i can, i often like to read and not respond, but then if i see something that really interests me i will respond.... [puddytatt]
drannhh i love your new avatar, it's sweet, i always look through my friends list and see what they have written about, i don't like using the notifications because it fills up my inbox too much, i find it easier to work better without the notice... [puddytatt]
I'm also struggling to write good English here, mylot is helping me a lot to improve my English and writing skills. I enjoying reading discussions at the same time answering some topics that caught my interest. I seldom start a discussion because I can't think of any interesting topic to start with. I'm accepting every friend request here. [agv0419]
I think even native speakers of English can improve their skills by regularly participating here. OK, I will send you a freind request. I have not done that to anybody in a while because I get so many already, but I see you are interested in raising rabbits. My parents did that for a while about 60 years ago. They did not make any money but we ate the rabbits. [drannhh]
To be frank my intention was to make money but after later I knew that its not so easy unless you spend time on it.Now i visit mylot only to repond to some interesting discussions rather than start a new one. Also I developed the habit of responding to everyone who answer to my discussions by seeing you only. I love to read more than writing..... [manjalvaanam]
I have found that by reading discussions here I have made more money online using what I have learned here on myLot than from all the myLot earnings put together. So we earn two ways here, but mostly as you say it is just interesting. I love being in such a cosmopolitan place, that is where people from all over the world come together to share ideas. [drannhh]
I started out that way too but once you get the hang of it everything is just smooth sailing. But i still feel that It's harder for me to start a discussion compared to just posting. When I start a discussion, I have to choose my words wisely to avoid saying the same thing over and over again and I feel i owe it to each and everyone who posted their comments for me to give a reply too. Unlike posting where you can basically hop from one discussion to another and don't have to worry much since you only expect a reply from the one who started the discussion. When I was just starting it seems that it would take me forever to compose my thoughts for my posts but it just keep getting easier and easier and my sentences keeps longer and longer and my earning bigger and bigger LOL. Cheers! [ybong007]
You are right. One has to think more carefully about what to say in starting a discussion for then we are trying to make something of interest to everybody, whereas in replying to someone else's post, it can just the a direct answer to a question. [drannhh]
Both,I guess. Let us talk about the reading part. There are some gems in what has been written by fellow MyLotters. Others could be just run of the mill. In writing, I guess we are contributing. We are enriching the discussion. so, MyLot benefit me from both reading and writing. The English may not be so great but the ideas shine through! [gracefuldove]
Yes, the ideas shine through and that is exactly what I was trying to say to my new friend who is so unsure of his ability to write in English. [drannhh]
Unless we read we cannot discuss about the topic. It is just like communication where you talk and listen. It is an interaction. [krkavsy]
This is so very true. Most of the people on myLot understand this, but some are only here to try to make some money fast and they do not know or care what a discussion is. Some talk, but do not listen. thumbdown [drannhh]
its better to do both since mylot is here to gives us what to read and space to write on. [mcowiti]
Well said, and that is what I do :-) [drannhh]
I enjoy both reading and writting in mylot. The rading has helped me a lot by this time. I came to know about many new informative sites by this time from mylot. These discussions are also very good. Not only that, the standard of the discussions in this site is quite high (less my discussions). After reading a discussion and it's comments, once i feel that i am suitable to write something, i write. I think both reading and writting have same impacts here. But reality is that if you write, you earn here. Have a great day. [borhan]
Yes, by reading we learn and by writing we earn. lol [drannhh]
Hello drannhh I do little responding and more reading and sometimes go for very short responses as I do not feel like adding up more and more words if the message is delivered.. I too am not that old here but I see some new comers keeps on going the same way after been cautioned by others where they are heading and what is the correct way....they don't seem to listen at all... But my point of view is, when somebody admits his/her fault or made it know to them by oldies and the skilled(evident by no: of posts) the new comer must greet it and try to learn from them...happy [Misterwit]
I reply to all who responded to my discussions as a form of appreciating that they response to my discussion. I do feel guilty if I won't. I enjoy reading discussions in here and I don't think it as a duty at all. I've been doing it almost everyday and I am happy to say that I am really enjoying it here. [joannaleed]
You sound like a very good myLot netizen. I cannot imagine not replying to the people who are kind enough to respond either, but I have seen people say in their discussion "I do not have time to reply to anybody's comments." I thought "That is NOT a discussion then! That is just show and tell like in first grade." [drannhh]
Hi dranhh.Well it is the same case with me.For some discussions I get so many responses that I am not able to start a fresh discussion at least for a week. And meanwhile my friends comment on my other old discussions as well.Bu I always make sure that I comment on my friend's discussions.Anyways have a nice day.. --rolleyesshamesrolleyes-- [Shames]
Well I am sending you a friend request right away, because we sound exactly the same. [drannhh]
Well, i am here for a long time ...I think 3 years or some more ... but my response list is not too much as i don't respond to those topics where i can't write anything or I am not getting interest to that... its not like ...that I ever feel guilty for not replying my friends discussion ....when ever i get interest in their topic... i do reply them .... Thanks :) [sincere4frdship]
Maybe some of your friends feel bad though if nothing they write interests you? Sometimes I think that if my friends says something it is interesting just because that is my friend but if someone else says the same thing maybe it would not be so interesting. How bad am I! [drannhh]
I enjoy the reading and the writing. I'm hardly in it for the money, I've been a member quite awhile and I've only made $1.96 so far, this is not the best money making site I've seen. I love the various topics and I respect those that are trying to improve their English by joining in discussions. Here I get a glimpse of different cultures and a variety of opinions. I'm a person with many opinions and interests so this forum is perfect for me. I haven't any friends on MyLot, in a way I keep it that way but I wouldn't mind having a friend here but I'm careful as to who it would be. I've started a couple of discussions, they went nowhere, only a couple of replies, that's ok. MyLot isn't a big money maker but the diversity of people and topics makes it well worth my time. [tcup345]
My pleasure! That is pretty good for the short time you have been active here and probably in December you will reach payout and get some earnings posted in January then. I am at $9.77 so probably I will too. [drannhh]
Hi, English is not my first language either so sometimes the way I speak is totally odd but you know, some people could understand me as well. I think if we practice everyday, we will get better. hope people here will help me correct some words. [smileonstar]
There were no words that needed correcting in that one happy Your English seems very good to me. We can all use practice, though--even native speakers. Your rose makes a very beautiful avatar, by the way. [drannhh]
I'm more than eager to knwo wat others had to say in discussion i started and it doesnt matter to me whether a discussion is started by m friend or not ,,i only wanna know the topic and if its gud i jump into it [djshikhar]
Thank you very much for deciding that my topic was good then, and welcome to myLot. [drannhh]
Reading as well as writing is necessary when we discuss something. In the beginning everyone feel odd, out of place. But when one gets familiar here, it is fun. I enjoy reading what others write, I even spend a lot of time reading the responses in many discussions. When we read on different topics, we get the inspiration to write and start new discussions of different topics. [tingtong]
Another pretty red flower! Yes, reading what others write is inspiring and often when I have been discussion something here then I go write an article about the same thing on one of the Paid-To-Write sites and so a few pennies here turns into a few dollars there. [drannhh]
I have never started a new discussion. I sometimes think of something when I'm not at the computer but forget about it when it is computer time. I probably wouldn't have time anyway, even though I ignore discussions for which I have no interest. No, I don't feel guilty when I do not answer all discussions. [bellis716]
I went to check your profile and it is true! A year with no discussions that you started. You are right that they do take time! Thank you for having taken an interest in my discussion [drannhh]
I wouldn't pick one over the other because I think they both are equally beneficial. If you read here, you can learn and pick up a thing or two. If you write here, you improve your English as you go along. The more you practice, the more you get better at the language. So, I can't choose between the two. I don't always respond to everything people post here but I do participate, obviously. I participate more than I start my own discussions. I try to post 1-2 of my own discussions per day if I can. [rg0205]
I will keep an eye out for one of your discussions then. I think people who post 6 or more discussions every day are pushing the envelope a bit. Usually they are the ones who never come around to mine. 1-2 is quite reasonable. I agree that reading and writing here are equally beneficial. [drannhh]
I respond to discussion if its interesting or the question or discussion is catchy but on the contrary it is safe to respond to something you know that benefits the other. There maybe discussions that are nonsense but still we respond to it maybe because it makes us smile or its quite destructing. [eubilisa]
Then I hope my discussion made you smile, and welcome to myLot. I hope you make many friends here and although at first the pennies do not come fast, after you have been here a while the earnings can increase a bit. [drannhh]
Hiya drannhh, I'm so loving your avatar pretty much. It's just so cute! Back to the subject of your discussion, I think that as a long-time member of mylot, you are very humble and I can imagine you welcoming new members with open arms. I don't mind too knowing that some new members are not so good in English. I always tell myself that they have tried their best and to give them a chance to be a part of this cool community. So for me, open arms to them too.. [zed_k4]
LoL...that's a good one.. [zed_k4]
Thats so nice of you to dedicate a discussion to your friend .Like you mentioned most persons are only here to make money and not to build relationships and interact with others. With regards to your friend I take time out to read discussions even if they arent perfect as long as I can understand what they are saying .After all everyione has something to say and teh idea is to transfer your ideas to someone else.I do both here at mylot I read and I post ,granted I do more posting than reading [ronnyb]
In view of your last sentence, then, I am especially honored that you chose to read my discussion and to respond, Ronny [drannhh]
I chose to only stick to starting one discussion a day because that way I am not undertaking more than I can handle to respond to in a given day. I also don't feel guilty if I don't respond to all of the discussions that my friends started, but I do make an effort to respond to all of the discussions that have been started by my friends that interest me. However, there are some discussions that they start that are of no interest to me. Two people can have a lot of things in common, but no matter what, there are always going to be some things in our lives which diverge from each other. [dorannmwin]
And similarly people who have very little in common might be in strong agreement on one or two issues. I rarely start discussions, but if they all turn out as well as this one, I would probably start more. This has been fun. [drannhh]
I'd like to start a disscusion, but my poor English failed me~~~ wuwuwuwuw~~~~ [tangpeizhu]
hehe.thank you!I hope so. [tangpeizhu]
Hi drannhh !!! how are you doing.I liked the topic you have raise on the platform of mylot.Yes its really very hard to balance out which one out of the two one must follow i.e. whether to response or post a new topic? After going through quite a few of the responses on your topic I am still not clearly understood the another angle you have raised to someone's response the new angle you brought out is the EARNING's from mylot. First of all I must response to your original topic,I would rather like to provide my response to interesting topic rather than post my discussions, but in realty I generally start my own discussion, then responding. I have responded to you and avoided responding to at the same time How? okey the subject that i found to be of valuable I responded and the topic that does not interest me I avoid and again even if the topic becomes boring I still respond then the person comes into play with whom I am attached,B'coz at the end the earning comes into play. On the other hand the second subject i. e. earning angle> even though we are all of us on the mylot platform and always remain grateful to the MYLOT but at the same time does all these Internet sites on which we are working really pays enough to earn our livelihood, the answer is big NO. again It could be Yes but only for those guy who are Software engineer, programmers and so on.Hence at the end I don't think that the people who are posting few discussion are doing so for earnings only, there's much more to it.I hope you agree with me and PL. give your response. [rocket2020]
shockedThank you Rocket, and yes I think we are in agreement. When starting a discussion I try to ask a lot of questions so that maybe everyone will find at least one interesting enough for a reply. I do expect anyone to answer them all, but they are more than welcom to try. It is just nice if anyone shows up. The only topics I find boring here are the ones that many other people have already discussed and then somebody comes along and does it again without having first searched [drannhh]
