Both the Trilogy of the Rings by Tolkien and The Chronicles of Narnia by Lewis were written by amazing men. Both were genius writers, and both were admirable Christians. I read both series when I was in high school. That was in the olden days when going to the library was a weekly occurence for me, rather than going to the bank monthly to pay the cable bill. I saw all three of the Tolkien movies, and I saw the Chronicles movie. I really prefered the Chronicles movie, but then that probably isn't surprising since I also preferred the Chronicles books. It's probably the way my mind works because I tend to be more of a light fairytale type of person rather than a heavy dramatic person. I personally felt that although the Trilogy was good, it really was more dramatic and heavier.

responses and comments:
I prefer the Chronicles of Narnia! I heard them before I read them and then watched the movie! A friend of minw had cassette tapes of the original BBC broadcast and it was really cool hearing it. I pretended like I was back in time and there was no tv, it was great! I pictured what I wanted but, it was not nearly as good as the movie. [Julia1970]
I think there was an animated version of the Chronicles some years back. But I really preferred the live action version. [kbkbooks]
I prefer the Chronicles of Narnia. I enjoyed the Hobbit, but I never really got into the Rings trilogy. Narnia on the other hand I used to love reading the books over and over. [kjscrafts]
I agree with you! [kbkbooks]
I loved both the Lord of the Rings Trilogy and Narnia, but much prefer the Rings trilogy movies over Narnia. Though I must admit that I have never read Narnia, while I have read the Rings trilogy. Perhaps that makes a difference. Isn't fantasy art great. [chuggs]
Fantasy art totally rocks. My son and stepson are now heavily into Anime. This is also an excellent art form. I love the way my kids have grown up with the art of anime. When they were little it was Pokemon, then Digimon, and now they are into some pretty amazing cartoons for older kids. My stepson even watches cartoons in Japanese with English subtitles for hours on the computer. He just loves it. It is one thing that he does which even my mom (who is Japanese) is pretty proud of. They get together sometimes when she visits and talk about the Japanese language. Who woulda thunk it? [kbkbooks]
The rings is the best bok I have ever read and I read it atleast six times in one month. I was refusing to return the book tothe person who loaned me that and even offered him to pay the double for the book. I really believe that world is divided in to two kinds of people those who have read the ring and those who have not. I have not read chronicles, what is it about? Niether have I seen the movie. If you recommend I will certainly go to the library and try to find it. [mansha]
Mansha, you definitely should get hold of all the books from the Chronicles. They are a little lighter and easier to read, mostly aimed at a younger audience, but really good for the kid in everyone, and making a very mature point. God is over all and in all and in control of all, and good will always triumph over evil. Go to your library straight away!! [kbkbooks]
Lord of the Rings over Narnia, of course. Both have good animatronics, storylines and amazing locations but LOTR is my sure winner. Because only one ring rules them all!;) [raijin]
Insightful and clever. Thanks for your answer. [kbkbooks]
I haven't read either books, but i found The Chronicle of Narnia much more interesting. I tried to watch one of the Lord of the Rings movies, and fell asleep. But I loved Narnia. [jewel76]
Oh, wow, I have been embarassed to admit it, but I also fell asleep during the LOTR movies. And that is something I never did before, falling asleep during TV or movie. [kbkbooks]
This is very hard for me to decide because I've read the Chronicles of Narnia, but have not read the Trilogy of the Rings. I finished reading The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe the afternoon before we went to the movie and found the movie to be very disappointing. There were just lines that I felt were so important to the essence of the book that were lost in the movie. In certain moods I love the Rings movies. I haven't read the books though, so I'm not sure how true to the books that they are. [imadriscoll]
Truthfully, I read the books so long ago, I can't remember the details to see how closely the story runs in the movie. In any case, they are worth reading. [kbkbooks]
Lord Of the rings!Definally. [amoreco]
Thanks for your response! [kbkbooks]
I agree that both Tolkien and Lewis were genius writers and not only were they contemporaries but also friends. I liked Rings movie better. My impression is that Rings is for an older age group than Narnia. However, I feel that Narnia is based more on Christianity whereas Rings is simply good versus evil. [gberlin]
Great insights. Thanks. [kbkbooks]
Both are great but I actually prefer the Chronicles of Narnia. I read the lion, the witch and the wardrobe and all the other books in the series when I was young and they have always held a special place in my heart as they seemed so magical then and they still do now. [juliedee]
I never realized the Chronicles had such a large following, but apparently a whole bunch of us read them when we were younger and are finally blessed by the movie. [kbkbooks]
I prefer the Chronicles of Narnia..and yes both the chronicles movie as well as books are great [Silver98]
Thanks for adding to my discussion. I agree with you. [kbkbooks]
I much prefer lord of the rings, books and films. I was hooked on the rings films and so were my family. I thought the film of the chronicles was weak and was trying too much to be like the rings films but came across as a cheap version of it. The chronicles just doesn't have the suspense and sense of awe that the rings does. [zoeokeeffe]
I'm sorry. I don't agree with you. I don't think at all that the Chronicles was trying to be an imitation. The literature in both cases are quite a bit older than the films. It's also interesting to note that both stories have been adapted to other film genres, like animation, in previous years. I don't think there was anything at all cheap about Narnia, in my opinion it was a totally different sort of movie. [kbkbooks]
I'm with you, I preferred the Chronicles. I have read all of the Chronicles and seen the movie. I have read none of the Rings but saw all three. Chronicles was more my speed. As a matter of fact, I felt that their interpretation of the book was flawless. It was exactly as I had imagined it, and for that reason it is now in my top favorite movies of all time. The actors were great, especially the White Witch. I could write all day and night about how great that movie was. But it had to come from a great mind, which was the mind of C.S. Lewis! [Geminigirl]
We can never discount the original source of this great imagination and creative energy!! The world will continue for many years to be blessed by C.S. Lewis. [kbkbooks]
i didn't read both, but i watch on dvd its truly amazing and stories and i love them both....coz it's a good story and a movie. [Ohara_1983]
Glad you enjoyed them! You can still get the whole story just from the movies. I found them very faithful to the books! [kbkbooks]
both movies are great. if we base it on video effects, I go for narnia. the 3d animation of character are nicely done. video overlays are also great. but if we based it on how good is the story, I go for the ring. I see another perspective through it. I guess, its was based on a persons life whom is going through a sickness. the last part of the movie of the ring emphasizes everything. the main character had to go elsewhere to take his last breathe. basically, the message the author was trying to express was... to live life to the fullest even through sickness or failure. Its really worth it. [chemicalh2]
I love animation of all sorts. One of my favorites is claymation. When I was a child I remember loving Davey and Goliath and also Gumby. [kbkbooks]
I have not seen Narnia, but I am a huge fan of the Rings trilogy. I never read Narnia as a child so didnt know what it was. I think I will watch it today with the kids and see how I like it. [charlie0114]
It would be really fun to read the books together with your kids! They are great for kids and easy for reading aloud by anyone. [kbkbooks]
I like Rings more,it`s more adventureous than Narnia and Rings is more to suit to adult than Narnia for kids,i think [dinzmalayneum]
I agree that the Rings would appeal more to adults. I found some of the passages to be more aggressive and dark when watching the movie. I would think the kids might find it frightening. [kbkbooks]
I liked Lord of the Rings much better. Though I really do wish their marketing strategy had been a little LESS successful. Because of this, I think we're going to see too many other movies stretched out, broken into two or three parts, and marketed to death so yet another Hollywood producer can extend the profits on his production. [SingingPsycho]
You have to remember they were actually three books and I think they were trying to work with this. Remember also that the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is really only one book in the Chronicles. We may see more in the future!! [kbkbooks]
I have never read any of the lord of the rings books...but i have read all 7 books of Lewis. So i dont know which one is better. But i like the chronicles of narnia.I like how it ended. [foreverblue921]
For sure a nice ending. Thanks for your response. [kbkbooks]
I like Narnia the best that is a excellent movie and the books are great also. [Shaun72]
I agree. Thanks for your response. [kbkbooks]
I prefer the Chronicles of Narnia. It made more sense to me and was easier to follow than Lord of the Rings. I also read the book which I actually enjoyed more than the movie. [pebbles724]
Agreed. Thanks for your response. [kbkbooks]
you are definitely right when you said both authorsof the Rings and Narnia are amazine men, and their creation ofa new world was very imaginative. unfortunately, i haven't had the opportunity to read any of the books, but i have seen the movies, though. to be brutally honest i was kindof bored with the Rings movie but I probably wouldn't feel that way if I had read it, since i'm a book-loving person. maybe the execution of the film is just not as good as it was in the book. with Narnia, it's a good adventure-fantasy story but i think the story is lighter, your typically "and they lived happily ever after" tale. but hey, Narnia is a children's book, right? so i'd probably read the Lord of the Ringsifi'm in the mood and go to Narnia if i want some light reading. [katcarneo]
Narnia is for older children, I think. Like maybe 12 and up. It's multiple chapters and of course a collections of books. It is a much lighter story though as you would have seen from the movies. [kbkbooks]
i love both sets of books but when it comes to the movies i prefer the narnia movies.... lord of the rings movies ruined my imagination how everything would have looked whereas narnia was pretty much how i expected [fliffy555]
Yes, I found the movie was a bit to graphic in the Rings. [kbkbooks]
I enjoy both equally and they are favorites of mine. Both writers created brilliant works and I was very pleased to see both brought to life on the movie screen. Bravo to the authors as well as the directors! [redamazon]
Bravo right along with you! [kbkbooks]
All you say is true but that is because they were written by two similar men, the mens expierences are quite diffrent. while Lewis had a bad childhood Tolkien went through WWI. The world that Lewis wrote about originally comes from a game he and his older brother came up with as children so naturally it would be light hearted. Tolkien books were mostly thought up in the trenches and after WWI. [deebomb]
Good interesting facts. [kbkbooks]
I like the Rings better. The characters are well design and really stands out in the movie. But I think there is a big difference between reading the book and watching the movie. [automobile]
The books in both cases were truly much better than the movies. [kbkbooks]
I preferred Narnia. The Rings is a great trilogy but I felt it was darker and more appropriate for adults. It did give me nightmares for a few days after watching it. I liked the fairy tale feeling of Narnia and the fact that I could watch it with my children. [biwasaki]
Thanks. Agreed. [kbkbooks]
For reading I preferred Narnia. It just seemed easier to read. Although I loved reading both. For the picture, I have to say probably both about the same. I honestly can't say that I would prefer one over the other. Both were excellent. [hockeygal4ever]
Good way to answer. Thanks for participating. [kbkbooks]
i like chronicles of narnia. i found LOTR too complicated for me. [meg_ddc]
I felt the same way. [kbkbooks]
While both of the stories and movies were excellent, I think that I prefer to watch the LOTR trilogy. The story is so much deeper and intracately woven, and so much more dramatic where as the Chronicles seem to be more of a lighthearted yet still somewhat dramatic story. [Ethanuel]
It truly was a great story. [kbkbooks]
I'm a Lord of the Rings fan. I really like that movie. I've never read the book since I'm not a book person. But the movie is just great! [mulder8scully5]
That's kewl. Not everyone likes the same things. Some read, some watch movies, and some sit at the puter and type articles in myLot. [kbkbooks]
I read Narnia partly in book form, gave up and read the rest in audio. I loved the movie much much more than the books! Never read the Tolkien series, but the movie put me to sleep. [Pigglies]
There that makes three I know who fell asleep. Two here and me. [kbkbooks]
I understand that both sets have many Biblical symbols in them. However, I have not seen it in the Rings. I really did not much enjoy that trilogy. I like Narnia, especially since I learned so many of the symbols such as the Lion was a type of Jesus, the Lion of the tribe of Judah. He died and was resurrected, just as Jesus. [harcab]
Absolutely. I totally agree with you. I prefer Narnia as well. [kbkbooks]
You have given all my reasons for preferring the Chronicles. I read it too when to get a book as a birthday or Christmas present was still thought to be a great gift. I also thoroughly enjoyed the movie. Wonder if Hollywood will ever try a sequel? [whiteheather39]
I would hope they would use the other books!! [kbkbooks]
Lord of the rings Rules. But i like Narnia too. I want to see the continuation of Narnia...Is a great movie too but rings is better [BlaKy2]
You are in good company!! Thanks for your response. [kbkbooks]
I prefer Narnia. The sets were really amazing. All scenes were really beautifully shot. [shedii]
I get such a nice feeling from watching the way producers put together the different colors to make a scene in a movie. It's just like painting or making a mosaic with real elements. [kbkbooks]
That is a really tough choice for me, because I loved both stories! For the movies, I would have to say I prefer the Lord of the Rings, but for the books I prefer the Chronicles of Narnia. Both are wonderfully written stories! Tolkien and C. S. Lewis are my favorite authors, but I can't decide who I like best! :) [jojopuff]
Thanks for your opinion. [kbkbooks]
Well I tried to read the Chronicles books but I could never get into them. The Rings I tried as well and although I read the Hobbit and part of the first book it did not hold my attention. It could also be the fact that I had a brother who was shoving them down my throat. You know every time I turned around he was pushing the books on me. I would probably enjoy both series today. I loved the movies though. Those I thought were well done. I'd have to say I prefer the Lord of The Rings movies though. I watch them more often then I do Narnia which I've only watched a couple of times. Narnia had some areas were it really dragged where as with the Lord of the Rings they move quickly and have very few spots where they lag so it's easy to get suckered into them. [emeraldisle]
Sometimes this happens with books. I think it's partly the mentality of today's society. Reading is not a highly encouraged skill unfortunately. [kbkbooks]
a prefer to narnia because its really a great movie. [SuyashDixit]
i ve never read the books only watched the films i preferd the rings and my kids loved narnia [honeyangel]
The Narnia books make great read out loud to the kids material. [kbkbooks]
I prefer the Chronicles of Narnia I grew up on the books. I can remember my grandmother reading them to me when I was three or fourand I got my own copy of the Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe when I was 6 or 7 yrs old by the time I was 13 I was reading the Screwtape Letters By C.S Lewis have you ever read this book?? [RavenPhoenix]
That's always been one of the books I meant to read. Sigh...I should get some reading done one of these days. Darn computer. [kbkbooks]
I enjoyed reading Rings, the movie was good but too long for me. All three of them. I really liked watching Narnia, great visuals! It didn't go to far from the book, great entertainment. [Childrenx4]
I fell asleep in the second Rings movie. I purposely didn't watch the third. But I loved Narnia. [kbkbooks]
i have read both ring trilogy and narnia chronicles, and i have to opt for narnia. i love the characters, the world and the purity symbolizes in Aslan. Narnia makes me feel refreshed and energized but the trilogy makes me feel grim inside.. i can feel the power of the ring affected me.. haha.. [chopsuey]
It's true. Narnia is more positive. [kbkbooks]
Lord of the rings is my preferred choice. I have yet to see anything so real, and yet fantasized-type of movie that depicts the reality of a human's desire, hope and dreams. I was able to realize many things in the movie, not just looking nice with its graphics, with handsome characters and beautiful ladies, but it is its every scene that shows of a part of human's strenght, or vulnerability. Really love LOTR! [saintz87]
That's an interesting point of view. True..real yet fantasized! I love the way you see it. [kbkbooks]
