Relaxing In The Bath!

I am just off for a relaxing hot bath, there will be plenty of hot water , bubbles and of course my book of the moment to keep me company - I can think of nothing more relaxing than reading in a hot bubble bath! Some of you know my 6 year old daughter Niamh and that she is very like Mum but much , much smarter - she is way ahead in her reading, maths etc! The other day I bought her The Wizard of Oz book, at least it will take her a little longer to read than some of the other books I have bought her. aWithin minutes of giving her the book she was entranced and off in the world of the book. A while later it was bath/shower time and Dad went up to run her bath, a few minutes later he came down looking for something and I asked what, to which he replied Niamhs book. I was puzzled , why would he be looking for Niamhs book? He found the book and went back out of the room muttering "like mother, like daughter" - that is when it dawned on me - Niamh had sent him to get her book so she could lie in the bath and read ot while relaxing , just like me! At 6 she is already picking up this habit! lol Oh dear every day she is getting more and more like me I guess I shouldn't have been surprised that she was like me in this way too even if she is only 6! Do you like to relax in the bath whilst reading a good book? Do your kids? What do your kids do that reminds you they are just like you are! xxx

My fav is Christopher Robin and I walked along Under branches lit up by the moon Posing our questions to Owl and Eeyore As our days disappeared all too soon But I've wandered much further today than I should And I can't seem to find my way back to the wood So help me if you can, I've got to get Back to the house at Pooh Corner by one You'd be surprised, there's so much to be done Count all the bees in the hive Chase all the clouds from the sky Back to the days of Christopher Robin and Pooh Winnie the Pooh doesn't know what to do Got a honey jar stuck on his nose He came to me asking help and advise And from here no one knows where he goes So I sent him to ask of the owl if he's there How to loosen the jar from the nose of a bear So help me if you can, I've got to get Back to the house at Pooh Corner by one You'd be surprised, there's so much to be done Count all the bees in the hive Chase all the clouds from the sky Back to the days of Christopher Robin and Pooh It's hard to explain how a few precious things Seem to follow throughout all our lives After all's said and done I was watching my son Sleeping there with my bear by his side So I tucked him in, kissed him And as I was going I swear that old bear whispered Boy, welcome home! Believe me if you can, I've got to get Back to the house at Pooh Corner by one What do you know, there's so much to be done Count all the bees in the hive Chase all the clouds from the sky Back to the days of Christopher Robin and Pooh Back to the ways of Christopher Robin and Pooh Back to the ways of Pooh [Angelwhispers]
LOL Well I thoroughly enjoyed reading it on Sunday as I haven't read any Winnie the Pooh for a while! lol xxx [mummymo]

I used to love to lie in the bath and read Mummymo. However, at Christmas we had our bathroom rebuilt and replaced the bath with a walk in shower. End of books I am afraid. I do prefer the shower (or we wouldn't have done it) but there has been the odd moment when I would have liked to slink off and wallow. My daughter is too much like me to be funny. She has the same sense of humour, the same ability to command others to do her bidding and worries about similar things too. She loves the shower but enjoys her bath too. When she was small I used to tell her about her little brother Arthur. Arthur was a very naughty child and one day, he was so naughty that he was washed down the plughole after his bath. After that, she was always very keen to get out when I pulled the pug! My daughter loves to read too. If we stay in an hotel she will disappear for hours to lie in the bath and get lost in her latest book. Like her father, sometimes the only way to get her out is to knock on her door and call "Last one to the bar buys the drinks", that won't move her, but the thought that the bar is open will!! You wont have that problem for a year or two, but trust me, the day will come. LOL. [p1kef1sh]
I can just imagine it! Usually people walking around Glasgow in their shirt sleeves in january are doing so cos they don't feel the cold when they have been on a bar crawl! lol Have a good trip! Hugs xxx [mummymo]

Hello mummymo. Your poor, poor, husband. wink I used to like to read in the bathtub when I was younger and took long baths, but these days I take showers and the pages get rather wet. My oldest son will sit in a bath for at least an hour or more, reading a book. I used to do that, too. Nowadays the only time I'm likely to read a book like that is if I'm soaking in a hot tub. I have been known to soak in a hot tub for hours while reading a book, especially if I am on a cruise. I once soaked and read all day while cruising across the Caribbean. [Transdisc]
I am very relieved to hear that sweety! I cannot imagine our wonderful trans with shrinkage of any kind! xxx [mummymo]

My daughter is just like me too in her ways, but I am afraid I am not a good role model for her in some of the things that she has picked up!! I used to love nothing more than a bubble bath and a good read, before all my kids came along I would be in the bath for hours. But those days disappeared along time ago as it takes up too much of the time that I have not got, although I am sure when the kids are older and do not need me to do as much for them then I will be able to go back to my indulgence!! [gemini_rose]
LOL What is the point of teaching your kids all about your good points and not letting them get a few of the bad? lol As for the relaxing in the bath that has always been my escape - either when they are in bed asleep or when Dad took them or they were at school whatever! I am sure it won;t be too long before you can get back to it and I hope that you savour in it when you do! xxx [mummymo]

great minds think alike! i am running a bath right now and i will soak in the bubbles for the next hour as i re read 'one flew over the cuckoos nest'. Hollie has my sense of humour, very black for a 6 year old! i must get her to stop setting bear traps for granny!lol [xboxboy]
What a good idea! Are you going to leave it plugged in or use the battery? Just think you could have a beauty treatment done on your fur at the same time - it would be spiky and cute! xxx [mummymo]

I do love to lay in a tub and read. It is such a treat to go to a motel/hotel that has a hot tub. When the kids were younger during the long cold winters we would drive an hour away so we could have a weekend of fun in the pool and Mommy in the hot-tub! Funny about my daughters they are a very small bit like me but not alot. I think my Scots daughter takes after me though..lol xoxoxoxoxoxoo [raydene]
A hot tub - that is like a jacuzzi right , with constant hot temp and bubbles in it? Sounds like bliss - when we go to Aviemore there is one of htese beside the pool and I love it - so relaxing and takes away lots of little aches and pains! I sure do take after you Mom and I hope to get more like you as I get older and wiser!xxxx [mummymo]

I love relaxing in the bath with a good book. I don't have any children though, so can't answer that part of post...Lori [dumblnddzzy]

Hey Mummy, Its been so long since I had a nice long hot bath with a book and a mug of ice, I'm jealous, and that's about as mild as I can be... With my cast and not knowing if my incisions have heald I haven't dared taken the chance or the risk, even covering moisture could still get into the cast and I run high risk of infection So its something i look forward to becasue sponge baths just don't work. I already told my husband I'll take 3 showers when I get this cast off before I feel clean. Enjoy your bath for me too..... Mooch [oneandonemakesix]
Aww Mooch I am so so sorry! I know how awful that must be. You know when I was little and had a cast (we call them a stookie) my Grandad got hold od some very heavy duty polythene bags put them over my foot and up my leg where he tied them so I could go on the beach and even paddle it the water but I guess that wouldn't work in the bath! I do hope that you get the cast off real soon and that your incisions have healed well! Cos I can't get in and out of hte bath/shower by myself when my other half was working at least 12 hours , 7 days a week for a few months it was mainly wash downs and sponge baths I had so I do know what you means sweets! Hugs xxx [mummymo]

Nope I am the only one that likes o lay in tub and read all the rest of my kids jump in and out of teh shower. Now my grand daughter might one day as she loves to try and read her books when I am reading mine. She is 3 [Lakota12]
lol very cool [Lakota12]

Hi mummymo! Oh that is so cute! I am sure she admires you a lot that is why she is really trying to do everything you are doing. You have such an adorable daughter and very smart too! I think she will grow up to be a very smart young lady. Unfortunately, I don't have kids yet and if ever I will be blessed with even just one, I would really hope that she will be smarter than I am. Just my thoughts dear. Take care and have a nice day! happy [faith210]
I had my eldest no problem but it took a long time and medical help (as well as prayer) to have my little princess! I am sure it will happen for you one day too faith! xxx [mummymo]

As you know we don't have a bath , I tried reading in the shower but the book got soaked :) :) . It is not a bad thing that Niamh is taking after you , If she grows up to be half as sweet and thoughtful as you then she will be well loved , Not that we could love her any more than we do , xxx [weemam]
I am sure I have bugged him into giving me 2 before lol! As if you would have went without our Ross - mind you he did keep looking out the window! hee hee xxxx [mummymo]

Oh Mo, that would have been so cute to see. Luckily for me I shower, or I would owe the library heaps for ruined books. I love reading but for some reason lately, cannot stay awake when reading. I would wake up with one library book floating in the water. [Goodie123]
Her skin reacts to a lot - the ultra sensitive ones work but it affects her 'down there' and she has had enough UTIs etc so we dare not use anything! A few months ago we bought an ultra sensitive bubble bath and put a tiny spot in her bath - by the next day she was red raw and extremely sore so we shan't be risking it again! Such a shame isn't it? xxx [mummymo]

I used to have a bad time with constipation but found when I went into the bathroom to do my business if I took a magazine with me everything came out just fine. my son when he was little went one step further.he would take a book into the bathroom with him. He still does it till this day .sometimes when we were in our old apartment that only had one bathroom I would find that he had taken the Sunday comics in with him and of course left them for mama to clean up. My friend nelda's son does the same thing so when someone phones and he is thus occupied she tells them he is on the throne.lol [Hatley]
You know what Hatley - I do that too- with the book and not the magazine!blush You are right it relaxes you a lot doesn't it? I think it is cute that your son has always done this too! lol xxx [mummymo]

I love reading in a hot bath. Always have. When my kids were babies, I take them in with me. Strap them gently to my chest, prop up a picture book and read to them! The loved it. By the time they could crawl and were bathing on their own, the knew just how to lie in the bath so they could 'read' their own picture books - with me right there to turn the pages and keep the book dry! LOL [sparkofinsanity]
Pmsl That wouldn't surprise me - isn't it great when our kids teach us! xxx [mummymo]

I have always loved a bubble bath with a good book, and sometimes even a drink lol. There is something so soothing and relaxing about that. On other occasions, I'll just lay there and soak and then go right to bed when I get out. The bath relaxes me and helps me sleep. As for my daughter, well, she doesn't live with me. But I talk to her and her grandmother often and her grandmother tells me of little things she does that reminds her of me. She loves reading like me, she prefers savory things to sweet like me, and apparently, she even pouts like I do blushLOL! [angelwhispers30]
I forgot to mention that I used to take a drink in with me - don't really do that now though - not sure why , I might have to start again! lol If your daughter is like you then I am sure even her pout is very sweet and used to the best possible effect! lol xxx [mummymo]

oh yes, i love having a hot bath! i find for me that they are more beneficial than just relaxing as they help the pain in my knees subside some (i have severe arthritis in both and find it hard to get around...) [cher913]
Ouch on the arthritis cher but as you say a hot bath can ease the pain a bit! I have chronic back and leg problems and also find it hard to get around so I understand how frustrating it must be for you! The bath doesn't really ease the pain for me as by the time I get out the pain is as bad as ever BUT I do find it very relaxing! xxxx [mummymo]

I have done Mo,but not for a very long time. I am too hypo,my mind wanders else where. i could not just relax & concentrate on a book alone. My kids dont either,my son used to when his dad was here. Now that he is gone,he dont do it either.Andy used to lie in the bath for hours reading.Every so often we would hear the hot water tap going on to keep water warm LOL My kids do a lot of things that say they are just like me. Well no they say a lot of things like me. I am Scottish not British is one of them. Soz just had to add that, wont bore you with the rest. Be here all night lol [LoudnProud]

My tub is to shallow to do that but when I go over and visit my sister-in-law she has a sunken tub and she lets me make use of it. I bring myself a book in the bathroom and a CD player with a couple of my CD's and I am off to relaxing land. I can stay in there for hours just soaking in the tub full of bubbles. I wish I had a decent size tub at my house but when I go to visit I have a wonderful time in the tub relaxing. [sunshinelady]
Now that sounds like the way to go - can I move in with your sister please? lol xxx [mummymo]

I LOVE to relax in the bath, the only problem that I have with it right now is that I hate my bathtub. It's a normal size bathtub, but it really isn't conducive to laying in a nice warm bath. I don't know why. I think it's because I gained some weight and I just don't feel as comfortable relaxing anymore, but I do love to read a book while I am in the tub. You know what? I don't think I have even tried to take a bath in the tub here. Ugh. I should try it again. I used to light candles, and use smelly bubble bath, and I enjoyed a drink even once in a while. Reminiscing about the bathtub is getting me excited and wanting to try again. Maybe I will do that tonight, or maybe tomorrow night after my final! And my daughter is a mini me so everything she does reminds me of me lol [kfrisk]
I am really glad that all is good for you! Good luck in the finals and don't forget to let me know how they went! Hugs xxx [mummymo]

Find great Bath Salts and organic detox bath salts at www.le-co.amazonwebstore.com I have them and LOVE THEM.....they really rid your skin of toxins and pollution from the environment! [Leandco]
Thank you for that link - I will look it up when I have time. [mummymo]

Oh that sounds like such a great idea. I used to relax in a hot bubble bath with a good book and candle etc. I haven't done that in eons but after reading this , I just may indulge myself tomorrow night. As for kids having my traits....I have 4 and they all have a little of me in them and yet they are all so different from each other. It is kind of funny. I have a friend who has been my friend since we were kids and she is always commenting on how one daughter or the other reminds her of me when I was younger. They all seem to harbor some aspect of me and also of their dad, I noticed. [sid556]
Well I hope that you get the chance tomorrow night sid and that you thoroughly enjoy it! Wow 4 children - i have my hands full with 2! Both are very like me in some ways although the youngest I have been told is more like me than can be believed - I find it hard to imagine I was ever as confident, smart or cute as my daughter though! xxx [mummymo]

that sounds so relaxing mummymo... too bad i can't do it often here in my house as i don't have the time... i am always busy working and earning money to fufill our needs... on my spare time, i prefer to go window shopping or taking a walk rather than having a hot bath... on sunday, i usually go to church... so i never do it for so long already... may be i should start to have a hot bath again like you to relax myself... enjoy your hotbath mummymo and have a nice day... [lingli_78]
I am so sorry that you find it hard to fit in the time for a hot , relaxing bath lingli - I am sure you would love it if you had the time! I always used to go to church on Sunday too and work a lot of hours but I am not fit to do so any more! I used to have to lay down over 95 %of the time but I now have a special chair which means I can sit in different positions and don't have to feel like such an invalid any more! Have a lovely day lingli! xxx [mummymo]

I do love taking a jacuzzi or jsut a bubble bath sometimes and listening to mellow music while sipping tea or wine and reading....My daughter loves reading in a relaxing bath too.. whta do my kids do that reminds me of myself? LOL PLENTY..for example (my husband had to point this one out to me LOL) my daughter likes to sing when she is cooking...I like to hum OR sing when I'm cooking a big meal LOL....thats just one example..there are TONS of others though LOL [Ravenladyj]
Oh how I would love a jacuzzi - I would be there all day every day though I think and turn into a prune! lol Sounds like your daughter is very like you - and that can only be a good thing surely! xxx [mummymo]

Oh Mummymo, you have no idea how much I'd like to relax in the bath with a good book! Unfortinately my littlest doesn't approve of Mummy having any peace and quiet in the bathroom and insists on joining me. If he's not allowed in then he bangs and hollers on the door, which is hardly relaxing! It sounds to me like your daughter has had a very bright idea with her book in the bath, but you really ought to be careful otherwise you'll never be able to get int he bathroom yourself!! [GreenMoo]
lol You are most welcome! xxx [mummymo]

It has been a long time since I gave our boys a bath and they are adults now, went to university so that shows how smart they were. They did start to read when they were five or six but never in the bathroom. They were mainly into science fiction books and for a time collected all the Star Wars books and what happened to Hans Solo, Princess Leia and their kids. When we were at certain houses at guests where they had a magazine rack and pocket books on the shelves in the bathroom but that was if you were going number one and it took a while for it to get through. I never read a book while taking a bath, I did not have enough money to buy another book if that one gets wet. I however love to read while I am eating, and drinking tea. [suspenseful]
I am sure your boys are very smart suspenseful! I get a lot of my books given to me or buy them second hand or when they are on special - we can also buy paperbacks very cheaply here which is why I don't mind her reading in the bath! I tend not to read when I am eating as i would probably spill food all over it - I am rather clumsy that way I am afraid! xxx [mummymo]

That is so sweet, Mo. What a great habit to pick up from you. Like you, I can think of nothing more relaxing than a good book in a bubble bath. I don't do it often enough. The habit my son seems to have picked up from me is hearing music even when there isn't any to hear. I love music, and if I am ever somewhere that I can't hear it I just sing or hum to myself. Thank goodness, in today's world, it is always pretty easy to have access to music so that we don't have to scare people around us with our singing.wink [makingpots]
I am sure you both have beautiful singing voices sweetheart! Then again I am tone deaf so I find it hard to tell the differencerasp A love of music is a wonderful thing to have and I am sure it makes life a lot more fun! Don't forget the nice hot bubble bath with a good book soon! xxx [mummymo]

this is just so cute!!! mother like daughter... I am heading to go relax in the hot tub... wish my computer could come with me! LOL I would keep talking to you all on my lot! [KKKBsmom]
LOL If only they would create a waterproof laptop - that would be amazing and I would look as shrivelled as a prune! xxx [mummymo]

I had to smile while reading your post, mummymo, because it reminded me so much of my friend and her granddaughter that she is raising.happy I am constantly reminding her when she wonders about some of the antics of the child that she is very much like her and has picked up many of her habits. Kids like to imitate what they see their parents do and that is why we must always set a good example for them. Your little Niamh must be like a carbon copy of you. I find her name so unusual-but very pretty. [worldwise1]
LOL My family and friends are forever laughing when I tell them some of the things she has done and they just tell me that they know where she gets it from and point at me! lol I do try to set a good example to my kids and I think I succeed - well most of the time anyway! I wish I were half as cute or smart or even brave as my daughter! Thanks for the compliment about her name - it is what I would have called my eldest if he had been born a girl almost 15 years ago but it really didn't suit a boy! lol It means radiant one and it certainly suits her! lol xxx [mummymo]

I do like to read and relax in the tub! I will be there soon and shall not be heard from for a while! It is good that your daughter is imitating you. [olivemai]
Thanks! I am trying to, but it is not easy! Right now I am getting some much needed me-time! [olivemai]

Awww that is so cute mummymo, like mother like daughter. I usually read in the bath too, haven't lately though as it's been all showers at the moment. I'm due for a hot long soak though and a good book too. As for my son, he plays with his toys in the bath and sometimes pretends he's swimming in the pool. He'll put his goggles on, fill the bath almost to the top and swims LOL too funny sometimes. [maddysmommy]
the worst part is it is totally true! blush xxx [mummymo]

Bless her!! Its scary to think, if shes like this at 6. What will she be like in her teens?? lol Makes you wonder what other habits shes picking up?? I love hot baths with bubbles but dont like reading in the bath as Im scared I will drop it in the water!! I enjoy listening to music though, this helps me relax even more. [cinderella2007]
I dread to think what she will be like as a teenager! My other half has had to hold me as I am in tears saying please God do not make her any smarter as she gets to her teens - I can't take it! lol You know I have never once dropped my book in the bath water , and I have been reading in the bath for years - not bad since I am usually so clumsy! Music is another very relaxing way to go honey - I hope Niamh doesn't try that though as she would be singing along at the top of her voice! lol xxx [mummymo]

i dont read while im in the tub..i just lay there and relax..its the mannerism of my daughter and the way she walks the reminds me of myself ..although i havent notice this..its my husband who commented it.. [vanities]
We all have our own way of relaxing honey and I am glad you take the time to relax! It is funny how often it is other people who notice the similarities between us and our children isn't it! xxx [mummymo]

I do like to realx in the bath, but can't seem to read in there wihtout getting the book wet! but I do love to do those seperately? I love to read..I love to soak in the tub. I juts have to be careful not to fall asleep in there? [Gargoyle0134]
LOL I am lucky I have never dropped a book in the bath - the toilet yes but never the bath! lol I wish I could fall asleep having a bath - I have real insomnia problems and would live in the bath if it would work! xxx [mummymo]

I used to love relaxing in a long hot bath with a good book. Unfortunately I don't get to do this anymore as we currently don't have a hot water tank that works, although I do find myself curling up in my favourite chair and reading. It's good that children get into reading at an early age, be it in the bath or in bed, I wish my son had picked up the reading habit as readily as Niamh. [recycledgoth]
Awww you poor thing - I hope you get the water tank fixed soon! I love to read and both of mine seem to have the same passion. I have read to them both ever since they were in my tummy but I also gave them books of their own from a very young age - I think it was nosiness that made them want to read! lol Niamh is just home from school and is curled up reading her book already! xxx [mummymo]

Congrats Mummymo. You have a very smart daughter. Kids pick up things their parents do at early ages, that's why we always have to be on our toes when they are around. lol I remember telling my husband that he had to watch his mouth around our daughter because she was just getting to the age of mocking what we did and saying what we said. lol He didn't believe me, so one day, he said a bad word and she said it right after him. He wanted to punish her and I told him no you can't I told you and you didn't listen. So everytime that word came out of his mouth, I popped him to remind him not to say it. He got better after being popped a few times. lol My daughter is like me in many ways and like her father too. She takes after me with working, money and paying bills, etc. She is like her father with attitude. She is also turning into a good cook, don't know who she takes after in that department. lol [icyorchid]
Thanks icyorchid - sometimes I feel she is too smart for her own good - and for mine! I know kids tend to mimic their parents - especially things their parents don't want them too! lol Most men don't listen to us when we tell them til they see it for themselves! I say the kids get all their good points from me and all the bad ones from their father and there are some that just seem to come out of nowhere! xxx [mummymo]

Hi MM: I don't take baths because I keep thinking I'm in dirty water, even if the tub is scrubed clean. I'm glad Niamh is like you..that makes her, her fathers 'princess. The Wizard of Oz was one of my favorite books and movies..."We're off to see the wizard, the wonderful wizard of Oz..." I don't have any children but that is why I enjoy reading about other peoples children, especially about Niamh and Margret's Ross. Have a great day. Ivor [TheSpy]
I understand what you are saying about the dirty water but I love to lay in the bath as it si so relaxing! I wish I could have gotten a picture of her lying in the bath reading! lol I love the film and book too - I am getting her more challenging books as books designed for her age group bore her - she is more than halfway through the book despite being away for a 3 day weekend and having after school activities! Margaret and Ross and Faither were all along today - Faither gave the kids money to get ice cream and Niamh ended up managing to get the rasperry sauce all down her and transferred it onto all 3 of them when she was hugging them! lol xxx Hugs Ivor xxx [mummymo]

I don't have kids, so I can't answer that part of the question. I can however answer the other question. I don't take baths very often, well not like I used to anyway. When I do take a bath though I just sit there. I don't read or anything else. I think for me though that showers are more relaxing. I say this because a while ago my husband bought a shower head that has several different settings. I love one especially because it feels like a massage. [cortney09]
You know that just shows we all have different ways of relaxing sweety and we have to do whatever works for us! I do like a shower to feel clean and I would love one of those ones that have heads at all different angles but that is just a dream! lol You keep enjoying your showers sweet - but don't try reading in it! lol xxx [mummymo]

Your daughter sounds like quite the little reader. As for me, I like reading in my faourite chair at The Second Cup with a good cup of coffee. I've nevr been one to read in the bathroom, rather in my avourite chair. [danishcanadian]
I guess we all have our own favourite way of reading sweety I just couldn't get over her reading in the bath! lol She has finished the Wizard of Oz and is looking for a copy of the Railway Children now! If I could it sounds like I would love reading in your favourite place but I need a special chair to be comfortable enough to read! xxx [mummymo]

I have, all my life, enjoyed a good long soak in the bathtub. But now for the last 3 months I have lived in a house that doesn't have a bathtube, only a shower, and I am missing my bubble baths a lot. I come home from work, cleaning houses, and I am sore and want to soak in the tub and I can only have a hot shower. It just isn't quite the same. So a friend of mine heard about this complaint of mine and he offered me to use his bathtub any time I want. But the thing is, he lives in a town outside of the city I live in and it is a 45 minute drive, and he is just a friend so I think this would be inappropriate as I know he has more feelings for me than friendship but respects that I don't, but this might give him some hope. Also since it is a 45 minute drive I wouldn't want to do that after soaking for an hour and getting so relaxed I would want to just go to bed to sleep, not have to drive all the way home. So instead I will just continue to miss my bath. [chrislotz]
Me too. Maybe I have to rent a motel room just so I can take a bath. I have done that before when I was living in my RV. [chrislotz]
