I have loved to read since I was a child. My daughter brought over an arm-load of books a couple of days ago. Right now, I am reading "The Shack," so interesting and unique! I also read some favorite blogs each day, and a lot of the discussions here on MyLot, as well as a magazine whose subscription hasn't yet run out, "Better Homes and Gardens."
What are you reading these days? Care to share or do a quick review on it?
Thank you.
Karen

responses and comments:
Doctrine and Covenants its so good book like the New Testament but it is intended for the modern time or last days. It reminds us how to live more righteous in this life. It is book of revelation from God. On the things what should we do for our better life and doing charity to the other people. Have a nice day. [Bradpete]
I have read Revelations in the Bible, but some of it is a bit hard to take in, so the book you are reading could be a good alternative. Thank you. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
Right now I'm reading Angels and Demons because my friend wants me to go with her and see the movie, but I like to read the book first. I haven't really gotten very far yet. The Shack is actually the next book I plan to read. I've heard a lot of good things about it, but I have no clue what it's about. I'm just going on faith that it'll be good. I just finished reading The Fires of Jubilee which was better than I thought it would be. I had to read it for my history 1301 class. It's about Nat Turner's rebellion during times of slavery. [Valentine28]
I loved Angels and Demons, and also Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code. I haven't read Fires of Jubilee, but history has always interested me. It would be good to read that, so thank you for sharing your reads! Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
I recently read the disspaearing act of esme lennox. It was different. I would love any good book suggestions though! Sorry if my typing isoff, my keybord is messed up [amybrezik]
Try reading some of Jodi Picoult's work. Her style and subject matter is very unique. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
i just started a book called safe harbour by danielle steel. i only started reading it because i had been doing these sudoku puzzles at night...and that got really boring. i needed something to read so i decided to just grab something off of my moms bookself. lame i know. but i kinda do like danielle steel. [britt_200]
I love this form of bonding and discussing as a family, too! :) [PeacefulWmn9]
Right now, I am reading Eclipse, the 3rd book of the Twilight series. How I admire Ms. Meyer with her creation. I couldn't put the book down. I just want to go on reading until I finish the whole book. The love story and the information she's giving about the vampires and werewolves. How creative she is. [jeanne94668]
Like you, once I find a great author, I love to read everything they've written, often more than once! [PeacefulWmn9]
I am reading a book right now called King of lies. Its by John Hart. I don't recall ever reading a book by this author before and I don't even remember where I got this book probably at a bag sale or something. I am about 3/4 of the way through it and I am completely hooked on it. Sometimes I have to literally just stop myself from reading it so I can get something else done. All I want to do is sit and read it until I finish. I stopped myself from reading for awhile by coming on here lol only to read more things by reading the discussions and respones on mylot. The book King of lies is about this District Attorney whose father was a horrible person and winds up being murdered and the guy who is the District Attorney is getting blamed for it. I cannot tell you enough how much I love this book so far. I cannot wait to read the end and see what happens and if the ending lives up to the rest of the book. An ending makes or breaks a book I think. A good ending is essential or the whole book will become a waste of time. [shaggin]
I just love books that make me not want to put them down, and when they are that good, I want them to go on and on, or I want a sequel. I agree, an ending that is a total let down makes me wish I'd never read the book at all! Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
I am currently reading several books...they'll take awhile to finish. "The Jesus Legend: A Case for the Historical Reliability of the Synoptic Jesus Tradition" - Rhodes and Boyd "Intelligent Design: William Dembski and Michael Ruse in Dialouge" "Evil and the Justice of God" - N.T. Wright "Red" - Ted Dekker And I am working my way through a Basics of Biblical Greek text book.. Yeah, I'm a nerd. lol [randis1]
LOL, well then I'm a nerd, too, totally hooked on reading and on-going education! You have some heavy-duty reading there, but I bet it's fascinating! Thank you for commenting here. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
Reading a paperback written by Kathy Reichs. She is a forensic anthropologist, so she uses the knowledge in her fictions. I love her books. Kathy Reichs has a great sense of humor, and capable of using very simple words to explain difficult scientific concepts and "dry" history. I'm reading Cross Bones. There is a part where she explains the Masada as: "In the first century B.C, the whole area from Syria to Egypt, anciently known as the land of Israel, which the Romans called Palestine, came under Roman rule. Needless to say, the Jews were pissed. Over the next century, a number of rebellions arose to thorw the Roman bstards out. Each was a bust."Those readings about the destruction of Jerusalem in first century and Masada (Dead Sea Scrolls) are usually very dry. Her description is the most interesting of all. [scheng1]
Well they still sound very interesting, and I do have a pretty strong stomach, so I want to give them a try : ) Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
This is a good discussion because reading is very important because it is a good way to pass the time when you are either really bored,or have nothing to do,and especially when it is either really cold or raining and you do not want to leave the house, and I am sure that different people have different opinions when it comes to the types of books they like to read, some people might like mysteries, while other people might like romance books, and others still might like horror books or maybe westerns books,I used to like to read when I was younger but as I got older my attention span got worse,so it is hard for me to concentrate on a book so I can remember what it was I read, but I have found when my fiance reads to me I can concentrate and remember what she reads which is really awesome, and right now we are reading The Quickie by James Patterson which is about a woman who thinks her husband has cheated so she cheats on him with her fellow worker, and then the worker gets murdered, and it is a really good book, and we are also trying to find the book the Settlers by Vilhelm Moberg which is the third book in the series, and we want to find it so we can finish reading the second book which is called Unto A Good Land have a great day, good luck with your life, and all of your mylotting goals, and Happy Posting. [hellcowboy]
What a sweet compliment! Thank you, and I wish you every success, as well. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
Currently I am reading "The death conqueror". It is about the life and life's of people related to "Karna", a character from "Mahabharata", a ritual of Hindus. It postulates a very detail and kind of different image of Karna and others from what is basically interpreted by many of us as we read Mahabharata. I am kind of liking this character even more now. [coolmailpankaj]
This sounds interesting. For me, it would be a good way to learn about a new culture and their beliefs. Thank you for commenting. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
hi karen....i'm currently reading three books :-D i select which one to read depending upon my mood at that time and the place i'm in. 1. 'The Queen's Fool' - Philippa Gregory 2. 'The Enchantress of Florence' - Salman Rushdie 3. 'Superstar India' - Shobhaa De the last one is my favorite coz i love reading works by contemporary indian writers.and it's not a novel in the real sense.there is no story as such.it just takes the reader on a very matter-of-fact journey thru the present upper middle-class india.since i myself belong to that sector of society,i could identify very well with what she has tried to put across. [raakhee]
Raakhee, thank you so much for all the reading recommendations. I will definitely have to make a list and pursue it. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
Son of Fortune by Jeffery Archer that 's the book I am reading right now. I used to read Better Homes and Gardens lovely magazine. [shalabhvaid]
I like Jeffery Archer's work, too. Thank you for responding : ) Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
I've just finished reading an old book (really old, mid-80's) by Stephen King called "IT". I heard hollywood is planning to make a movie about it this 2009 so I bought it and read it. Pretty awesome story. No wonder it was a best seller in its time. Can't wait for the movie if it's going to push through. [thenextnoel]
The movies made from Stephen King's books are always great. I think you'll enjoy "IT" when it comes out. I want to see it too. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
i recently reading "the heart of a leader" by ken blanchard. its actually my husband's but i find it interesting so i read it and really helpful in improving our leadership style and ability. i also read some of shakespeare's works like hamlet and merchant of venice...nice and interesting stories... [ckyera]
You like the classics, then, always timeless, always good and educational. Thank you for sharing that. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
My friend red a book Testament. It was about a man who left a last will before he died that he will transfer all his properties to an unknown illegitimate child who was living in the suburban area with natives of a certain country as a missionary. The illegitimate child allegedly refused the inheritance but the lawyer did not disclose to the legitimate children that she actually accepted the properties. The legitimate children tried to locate their sibling however, when they came to where she lived, they found out that she has already passed away .She left a last will that all the properties will be left to charity [mimiang]
I think the Testament was written by John Grisham. He is one of my favorite authors, and I own most of what he has written. You are your friend would probably love the rest of his work, too : ) Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
right now i am reading Jade Goodies diary, she passed away in march aged 27 from cervical cancer, she was the only Big Brother contestant to become hugely famous from that show and she has achieved so much since she's been on the show, i am reading her diary right now starting from her early days with her drug addict parents to the day she found out she had cancer, it is a pretty sad but interesting book, i am not half way through yet because i keep putting it down so i can cry, it is a very sad story indeed...she was well known in UK for her isms, she was not well educated but she made a name for herself in other ways, she was a great mother to her 2 little boys and had so much to look forward to but this horrible disease stole her life at such a young age...god bless her soul, she will be talked about for a very long time to come... [tattylashes]
well last night big brother 10 started and it was dedicated to jade, i love her book but when i was reading the early days of her life it reminded me so much of my life as a kid too, it brought back some painful memories but i understood why she turned out the way she did as a young teen, she was out of control because she didn't have a stadle lifestyle, big brother was the makiing of her and she turned out to be famous for it...her children are set for life, she has gave them something she never had as a kid and that was a good education and a stable future, it is sad that she is not around to see them grow....ok more tears, if you get the chance please go out and buy her diary, it's so touching, very funny in parts and insiprational... [tattylashes]
i just finished the book 'hunt for red october' i had seen the movie several times, but never read the book. i am not part way into the billy graham biography. we are going away this weekend, so i have to hit the library and get a few more books to take with me. [cher913]
A special friend and I love the library! We are like kids in a toy store there. I've seen the movie Red October, but not read the book yet. I'll have to check it out : ) Tom Clancy, I believe, is the author. Many good movies have been made of his novels. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
currently i am reading "The Six Chapters of A Floating Life",a very interesting book, written by ShenFu, translated by LinYutang, i am afraid few of you could find this book, myloters, here who can introduced me some books for reading? not too obscurity but easy to understand.thanks [northway]
Perhaps we in different countries could find the book you are reading online? Hm, you might like the work of Amy Tan, Jodi Picoult, or John Grisham. Give them a try. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
I am not usually much of a reader, but since I have been unemployed I am trying to pick up this hobby again. Right now I have been reading Love Your Life by Victoria Osteen. It is an uplifting book as well as Your Best Life Now by Joel Osteen her husband. Captivating by John and Staci Eldrege is also good. I have heard The Shack is very good. I am waiting for it at the local library. [sherono]
I am in the process of reading The Shack...very unique story! It's good that you are reading inspiring work. It will help keep your spirits up while unemployed :) Thank you for sharing your reading list. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
Hello PeacefulWmn9, I am currently reading Shibumi by Trevanian. And i can easily say that this book is in my top 3 now. I highly recommend you to read it if you haven't already. This is what it is about. " Nicolai Hell was born in the turbulent China of the First World War, of an aristocratic mother and a mysterious German father, and educated in the spiritual gardens of a Japanese Go master. Surviving the destruction of Hiroshima he appears as the world's most consumate and artistic lover - though better paid as an assassin. Genius, mystic, master of cultures and languages, Hel's secret is his determination to reach that rare personal purity and state of perfection known as Shibumi. Living in an isolated mountain stronghold with a beautiful Asian companion, he meets his most sinister enemy, a vast monolithic spy organisation. The battle lines are drawn: merciless power and corruption on one side, and on the other..." Originally published in 1979, Shibumi has made the greatest impact among Trevanian fans and remains today his most revered novel. Have a wonderful day!!! [zabawaus]
Thank you for the great review. The book sounds wonderful, something I would love to read. Asian culture is very fascinating to me. I read Shogun recently, and it was a big novel, full of culture...very informative and interesting. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
I love reading too, I am quite into reading a bit of fiction before I go to bed, as I find that it helps to relax me at the end of a stressful day. Currently I am reading High Fidelity by Nick Hornby. It is basically about a guy and his account of his failing romantic relationships and how having a failing career at the same time makes him feel a bit rubbish. It's alright, not too bad and quite funny at times. [UK_Shree]
Exactly - nothing like a bit of escapism! [UK_Shree]
I used to read before but not anymore. In the nature of my job I have to sleep more so...that's why It's very tiring if I have to..but I prefer newspaper at the moment to keep me updated and here in mylot as well. [ccarabuena]
Reading books does take time, and if you're short on that, it is understandable you'd turn to the paper and internet instead. : ) Thank you for responding. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
I'm reading a novel by John LesCroates (sp?) called "The Oath." This one's a crime/legal type novel. I read a lot of different stuff. I usually get a lot at once from a friend who frequents a second hand store. Or I'll go and we'll pass them back and forth. It's bad 'cause I can't even go to a thrift shop without heading straight for the books! I've been a bookworm since childhood. [AbbyS1]
I know how that goes. I'm a long-time bookworm, too. I love variety and have read all types of books--from the library, some I've bought new or second hand, and many go the circuit in my family : ) I love it! Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
Wanderlust by Danielle Steele. I love reading her novels in the summertime, especially when I have a chance to lay out in the sun or in the pool. It's relaxing and entertaining. [taface412]
Summers it is great to read outside, just as it feels right to curl up and get cozy with a book in the winter time. Steele has a huge following! So glad you enjoy this hobby, as I do. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
I'm reading a book about pass to the faculty, being a marketing man, financial math, how to being succesful in the life socially. These books talking about locial thinking, developed ideas, life success. I've read and i like so much. You should, search about it, is very good, important in life. [jonas1992sp]
I, too, enjoy how-to and self help books, as well as all the fiction I read. Thank you for sharing what you're reading lately : ) Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

Hi, peacefulWmn9.happy Recently, i have been reading a novel called "Outcast Child". I bought it in carrefour and it is a clearance book, it only cost me 5 Malaysian Ringgit. It is about a girl who lost her mother in an accident and her father remarried a lady who planned to steal his money. This girl then has a miserable life because of the stepmother. However, the father does not know about it. However, she only feels happy when she is together with her cousin. In the end, her father finds out the secret of his wife and their new life has just begun. It is an interesting story that attracts me so much. Happy mylotting and have a nice day. happy [lulumartin]
The book and its story do sound very interesting...a true life story for some. Thank you for sharing it. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
I am just reading a book by the famous pastor Max Lucado. He is someone trustworthy with real down to earth ideas and suggestions. Then I read the second book by Betty Mahmoody about her life back in America after escaping from Iran with her daughter Mahtab, thats a very touching book as well. [book1962]
Both of these books sound very inspirational. I will have to add them to my iist of things to read. Thank you for mentioning them here. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
i'm currently reading Thanks For The Memories by Cecilia Ahern, one of my favourite authors. just started to read the book so i can't really do a review on it haha. i anticipate it to be good though! here's an official book description taken from wikipedia; "Joyce Conway remembers things she shouldn't. She knows about tiny cobbled streets in Paris, which she has never visited. And every night she dreams about an unknown little girl with blonde hair. Justin Hitchcock is divorved, lonely and restless. He arrives at Dublin to give a lecture on art art and is persuaded to donate blood. It's the first thing to come straight from his heart in a long time. When Joyce leaves hospital after a terrible accident, with her life and her marriage in pieces, she moves back in with her elderly father. All the while, a strong sense of deja vu is overwhelming her and she can't figure out why. By the dialing of a wrong number, Joyce starts to figure out gradually that the girl with blonde hair in her everyday dream is named "Bea", who is Justin Hitchcock's daughter. And by a series of conversations with Bea, it also turns out that the blood Justin donated has gone into Joyce's body to help her after that accident..." happy [kevsgirlalways]
The book sounds very intriguing, very interesting. I appreciate you telling about it here. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
I just completed reading "The Deception Point" and a few books from the Sydney Sheldons collection. Honestly, i don't like reading Sydney's book anymore after reading Dan Browns books. I need to start reading a few classic thrillers and collecting ebooks like coma, code zero, etc. :) [divkris]
Dan Brown's books are truly good and keep one reading. Like you, I love a good thriller. : ) Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
