Reading is healthy for the brain- it keeps our imagination going- So what are you reading right now? Just state the blurb- please do not put spoilers in for people whom also may be reading the book ;D
At the moment i'm reading a REAL LIFE- book called:
If i am missing or dead;
In april 2002, Janine Latus's youngest sister, Amy, wrote a note and taped it to the inside of her desk drawer.
"If i am gone or dead," It read, "Question Ron."
Since childhood Janine and Amy had been sexualized and belittled. As adults the sisters sought familiarity, ending up in a series of abusive relationships. Finally, Janine confessed the truth to Amy, and with her support, escaped in time. But Amy was keeping a terrible secret of her own and by the time the letter was found ten weeks later, she was already missing ...
It's quite a moving book- though i havent quite finished it yet. I'd recommend it so far though-
What are you reading? And what's the blurb say?

Hi there Crywolf! I am currently reading Frankenstein but the sad thing is that I left it in a classroom in school this morning. I hope that my professor or one of my classmates got it. [nanayangel]
hi crywolfhappy, im currently reading Sirens of Baghdad, book is about a young iraqi man, who becomes a terroists by witnessing the death of innocents, and humilation by the American force. [hitejam89]
I'm currently reading The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring as I feel that this is one of those series that everyone has to have read by the end of high school. I'm enjoying it a lot! I think this is my third attempt at starting it up and it's no where near as boring as I thought it was before. Perhaps it was because I was too young when I first tried.. xD Here's what the back says: In a sleepy village in the Shire, a young hobbit is entrusted with an immense task. He must make a perilous journey across Middle-earth to the Cracks of Doom, there to destroy the Ruling Ring of Power - the only that that prevents the Dark Lord Sauron's evil dominion. I can't wait until I reach five hundred posts and can copy-paste! =P Anyways, enjoy your book; it sounds interesting! [Zezlol]
I find it very interesting now though. =P If you like books such as the one you mentioned, you may be interested in The Eyes of God by John Marco. It's really amazing in my opinion as the characters are just so amazingly believable! It's like you're in their heads throughout the book. =D [Zezlol]
That book sounds really good, I will definately have to read it next. I am currently reading Midnight Bayou by Nora Roberts. It is a romance novel with an underlying ghost story. I have only just started it, but it is very good so far. [dixiepeach00]
Interesting topic. ^_^ At the moment I'm reading War and Peace, which is unusually interesting and boring at the same time. I've been reading it for a while now, but I'll finish it! xD The back: War and Peace is a vast epic centered on Napoleon's war with Russia. While it expresses Tolstoy's view that history is an inexorable process which man cannot influence, he peoples his great novel with a cast of over five hundred characters. Three of these, the arless and delightful Natasha Rostov, the world-weary Prince Andrew Bolkonsky and the idealistik Pierre Bezukhov illustrate Tolstoy's philosophy in this novel of unquestioned mastery. Sounds exciting...? xD [Zezloler]
Doesn't sound like something i'd go for lol :P But i think one of my friends is into reading things like that- so if they havent read it, ill recommend it :P [cryw0lf]
Hi, cryw0lf. I sure hope that reading is healthy for the brain since I do it so much. Ha. Right now I am reading The Awakening by Kate Chopin. I have read it once before, years ago while in college. It is the choice of my bookclub for this month so I am reading it again. I remember liking it very much the first time I read it. [makingpots]
i havent read a book in a while. it is very hard for me to get into a book. my mom is always giving me books that she thinks i will like. most the time she will give me a short description of the book and it sounds like something i would be into but when i start to read it i cant concentrate. the last book i read was dean koontz, the odd thomas series. so far he has 4 books in the series. odd thomas forever odd brother odd i am awaiting the newest one to be on paperback. i think its called odd hours. cant wait. [lovinlifemindless]
Ahh, well, i hadnt read a book in a while before i started reading this one. It's about finding time for me, i'd much rather spend it with my boyfriend, and the only time i favor reading- is before i go to sleep, but i'm generally on the phone to my boyfriend at that time so... :P [cryw0lf]
The Robber Bride by Margaret Atwood. Zenia is beautiful, smart and greedy; by turns manipulative and vulnerable, needy and ruthless; a man's dream and a woman's nightmare. She is also dead. Three women are there for the funeral, but five years on, as the the women share a lunch, the impossible happens - Zenia is back! I very much enjoyed reading The Blind Assassin by the same author. It has taken me much longer to get into this novel, but I am well into it now I am more than half way through. It is very cleverly written. Each of the three main characters has their own back story, and all of them are linked in some way to the mysterious Zenia. [paid2write]
THE BREATHTAKER by ALICE BLANCHARD **EXCUSE THE TYPING*** A howling funnel of destruction screams across the prairie and slams into the town of Promise,Oklahome. When Police Chief Charlie Grover finds three mulitated corpses in a tornado-ravaged farmhouse, his first thought is that the victims were impaled by flying debris. But his instincts tell him something different and through solid police work he discovers they were brutally executed.Yet how could the killer predict exactly where a tornado would strike and use it to cover his tracks. [max1950]
I am currently reading a book calledThe secret which is was told to read as it would suit me and basically it tells you the scret to life and am really finding it interesting [mastermihir]
I'm reading " The Matarese Countdown " by Robert Ludlum. Not a bad book and not a great one. He's written better books than this. [Bluepatch]
I'm currently reading the fourth book in Stephanie Meyer's Twilight series, Breaking Dawn. The story picks up after Bella and Edward had gotten married, and what happened after that. I have to admit, unlike the previous books in the series, I'm struggling to finish this one. I feel the plot has gotten a little too convoluted for my taste, but I will finish the book... I know the Twilight series has a lot of fans, and though I enjoy the books, I still think of them as light reads. [wayz12]
Since I read audiobooks I don't have an exact blurb for you from the back of the book or something. But I'll try to make up my own blurbs that are spoiler free. Currently I'm reading 2 books at once because I always tend to do that. I just started reading "A Single Shard" which is about a poor boy living in a Korean Pottery village around 1100. I've heard it's supposed to be good but so far it's hard to tell. It's very short though, only 3 CDs long so I should be finished soon. I'm also reading "An Office Power Ballad" which is about a guy who dreamed of being a rock star instead working in an office for the music industry and making a 6 figure income. So far I find his voice very monotonous and so I can only listen to a little bit at a time. I guess actually I lied about only reading 2 books at once, because I am also reading "Years at Hull House" on the computer to improve my reading speed. I'm finding it very boring for the most part, even though I like history. And then I'm also reading "Reclaiming Our Health" by John Robbins. I'm about half way through that and I've been reading it for about 6 months now on real paperback. I can read about a page in 15 minutes or so on it. It's very interesting though and if you've read his other books like "Diet for a New America" you'd probably enjoy this one too. So I guess I'm reading 4 books at once. Not counting books that I started in paperback and probably won't ever finish because they've been sitting around too long for me to ever remember what the beginning was like again without re-reading it. [Pigglies]
Hello crywolf Currenltly I am reading, "The Gettysburg Gospel, by Gabor Boritt. Its subtitle is, "The Lincoln Speech that Nobody Knows." I picked it up when I was in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania not too long ago. The author tried to start from the very beginning in explaining Lincoln's Gettysburg address (instead of just building on other works about the address.) [Transdisc]
I'm reading several books at the moment...all non-fiction. Haha. Since these are non-fiction books there's not really any real blurps on them...and if there were, they sure wouldn't catch your attention as a "must read". Books I'm Reading: 1) American Jesus: How the Son of God Became a National Icon - Stephen Prothero 2) What's So Great About Christianity - Dinesh D'Souza 3) In But Not Of - Hugh Hewitt 4) The New Testament Documents: Are They Reliable? - F.F. Bruce 5) The Rapture Exposed - Barbara Rossing Yep. This is my list of current reads. It will all change within two weeks. [randis1]
Currently I am reading this book called So B. It. It is about this little girl who is raised by her neighbor and goes on a journey to figure out her family history. Even though she also lives with her mom, her mom is severely mentally retarded so she does not offer her much help. 12 years ago the girls mother had showed up on the neighbor's doorstep with a baby and the neighbor took pity on them. The neighbor who raised her has a mental issue also that makes here afraid to go outside, so she has to let the girl travel to New York by herself on her 12th birthday in search of answers of her mysterious past. [ltsaxcash]
That sounds like a really interesting book. I might have to go looking for that one. [Pigglies]
At present, I am reading the book 'Gone with he wind'. This is a very interesting book and good to read. [Indrajit_25]
I'm reading two books at the moment: If There Be Thorns by V.C. Andrews - Chris and Cathy made such a loving home for fourteen year old Jory - so handsome, so gentle. And for Bart, who had such a dazzling imagination for a nine year old. Then the lights came on in the house next door. Soon the Old Lady in Black was there, watching them, guarded by her strange old butler. Soon she had Bart over for cookies and ice cream and asked him to call her "Grandmother." And soon Bart's transformation began... Fed by the hint of terrible things about his mother and father...leading him into shocking acts of violence. Now while this little boy trembles on the edge of madness, his anguished parents await the climax to a horror that flowered in an attic long ago, a horror whose thorns are still wet with blood, still tipped with fire. ---------- Jack the Ripper: The American Connection - Includes the Diaries of James Maybrick by Shirley Harrison- When the diaries of James Maybrick, a Liverpool trader, were unearthed 10 years ago the last piece in a puzzle over a century old was in place. The event made front page headlines, international debate and the strongest evidence yet as to the true identity of the Ripper. Jack the Ripper: The American Connection is a journey back to the scene and execution of the most infamous murders in history which has all the pace and drama of a thriller, whilst remaining utterly convincing. Since its publication, the book has sparked off a flurry of interest with many other would be historians trying to make their mark. However, no case has been so convincingly expounded as Harrison's and it remains a core text on the subject. Now, for the book's 10th anniversary, Shirley Harrison reveals startling new evidence that suggests James Maybrick may have been in Texas, America at the time of eight murders that contemporary reports likened to the Ripper murders. Her findings establish the authenticity of this remarkable diary even further... I'm barely into the first book (I just finished the first two in the "Flowers in the Attic" series), but it's pretty good so far. As for the second one, I got it from the library out of curiosity and don't really believe the theory, but it's an interesting read nonetheless because I am interested in most theories on the Ripper. [sweeneyallanburton]
My exams are going rite now lol i am back of all in one,.!! I never read book and if at all by mistake i take up then ill end up in middle [aditya540]
hi, I'm currently reading "Conversations With God" the uncommon dialog book 1. Still in chapter 3 right now. [sheenarobins]
I just finished World War Z by Max Brooks. Very entertaining book and the movie is in the works. Here's the intro: We survived the zombie apocalypse, but how many of us are still haunted by that terrible time? We have (temporaraily?) defeated the living dead, but at what cost? Told in the haunting and riveting voices of the men and women who witnessed the horror firsthand. World War Z is the only record of the plague years. [mullthisova]
I am currently reading "Invitation to a Beheading", by Vladimir Nabokov. I fell in love with Nabokov as a writer after reading "Pale Fire" in my junior year of high school. Sometimes I wish I spoke Russian so I could read his work in its original tongue-- as he himself said in the foreward to the very book I am reading, too often translators remain loyal only to the spirit of an author's work instead of providing a literal transcription. With a writer like Nabokov, renowned for his abilities as a wordsmith, much of a story can be lost through such heartless abuse of a story. Oh, to be a polyglot! At any rate, the story follows the plight of a prisoner by the name of Cinncinatus, who has been condemned to death by decapitation. I am only three chapters in, but thus far I am wholly amused and would certainly recommend it simply based on the merits of the first thirty pages. Nabokov wastes no time in hooking the reader and does a wonderful job of introducing the attributes of his characters without stating too much about them-- he describes, rather than tells, and in the process renders his characters more sympathetic. Truly refreshing. [DebauchedSage]
Currently I'am reading Master of the Swords by ANgela Knight. She's one the few writer that I like the most. Its a vampire, dragons, witch, and werewolves type of series. I've read it twice But since I love the story I'm reading it again. [maggii2687]
I am currently reading a book "the 4th of July" bu James Patterson. It's a murder mystery/crime story. [angemac23]
Sounds like an interesting story. I am not reading novels these days. I am reading the professional books for participating a test. The book is a little bored ,actually speaking. So I hope I can pass the test successfully. Because I don't wanna read it again. Huh! Go on fighting! [zhangfzoe]
I am currently making my way very slowly through "One Hundred Years of Solitude" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. I am enjoying it, but it's not at all what I expected. It's a grand saga of a family and their interactions and loves and life in a city called Macondo. And as you read it, it seems normal and realistic for a while -- and then something magical happens in the storyline, and you realize this is a unique mixture of realistic fiction and fantasy. It's extremely intriguing, and I am not far enough into the book to understand the shape of the plot (if indeed there is one) but I would recommend the book highly (so far). The author won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1982. [bookworm64]
I am just finishing up Robert B Parker's Rough Weather (Spenser novel). And have Sidney Poitier's new book Measure of a Man ready to start. I have a few James Rollins books I want to get to and read in order as well. I always have several books laying around to read thank goodness. Have to support my reading habit!! :-) [quinnkl]
I just read Night in Rodanthe - it was good! Few nice twists and a it was over nearly 20 years time, but in such a way that it was amazing and happy and sad and just a good "curl up with a warm blanket and hot chocolate" and spend a nice 2 hours! I couldnt put it done once started. Bet the movie isn't as good! AndI won't see it as I enjoyed the book so much I don't want the movie (which is almost always different from the book is couple ways) to ruin my enjoyment of the book [coffeebreak]
I'm currently reading "The Tailor of Panama" by John le Carre. I admire the author's realistic treatment of the realm of internation intrigue. The title character is a very complex individual, and you feel like you know him very well as you delve deeper into the book and watch him become tangled up in a web of espionage. I'm only halfway through so far, but it is certainly an involving read. [charles63]
Wow, you've really sold that! Rest assured I'll be buying that off eBay as soon as possible [louise99]
No way, that book's right next to me! I'm about to finish the one I'm reading now, "Love Child", then I'm going to read "If I am Missing or Dead..." So, yeah, about the one I'm reading now... "Could I have news of my baby? I do hope she is settled now, and that she is happy with her new mummy and daddy, and that they like her, too. She was such a darling, and you can well imagine how very difficult it has been to give her up... In this moving and inspirational memoir Sue Elliott tells her own story of being adopted in the 1950s, and her search, nearly forty years later, for her birth mother. Over the course of her emotional journey she draws on a range of intimate personal experiences and exposes the human consequences of adoption." [louise99]
I'm currently reading "New Moon", which is the 2nd in the "Twilight" series by Stephanie Meyer. So far they have been awesome books!! If you like the Harry Potter books, you will probably like these, although they are very different. Before this, I was reading the books of Linwood Barclay, who writes mystery/thrillers, with some comedy mixed in to them. I found one of his books called, "No Time for Goodbye", in Walgreens when I was just looking for a fast read. It was excellent!! He has 5 other books, 4 of which are part of a series, though not the kind that you really have to read in order, although it's better if you do. I have really enjoyed his writing - it's great if you want some quick, light reading. After I finish the "Twilight" series, I'm moving on to a series that my mother has highly recommended which is the "Outlander" series by Diana Gabaldon, "Outlander" being the 1st book in the series. [reshadar]
I am currently reading Ayn Rand "Capitalism", Shuglin "Pihkal", Which has had more of a story than expected. Life experiences and the relationship with his wife, her involvement in the research. My spouse and I are also reading "The Illuminatus Trilogy", which is a sci-fi conspiracy novel of sorts. [UtopianIdealist]
Currently reading Parallel Desire by Deidre Knight, her 4th book in her Midnight Warrior series. It's a sci-fi romance. Here is a portion of the blurb written on the back: "A fantastic and riveting new voice in paranormal fiction, Deidre Knight continues her electrifying Midnight Warrior series, set in an alternate world where desire comes with a price...and love is the greatest risk of all." I highly recommend this series to those who like sci-fi romance, or even just plain romance. Beautifully written, complex plot-line and wonderfully created characters. [wayz12]
