What Book Are You Reading At The Moment

Who wrote it? What's it about? Would you recommend it to others? I'm currently reading "The Bookseller Of Kabul" by Asne Seierstad. She spent 4 months living with the family of a man called Sultan Khan. He defied the Afghan authorities for years by selling books despite being imprisoned and tortured by the Taliban and having his books publicly burned. I'm about halfway through the book and I'm really enjoying it. It's not just about the bookseller himself but also things that happen in the day to day life of his family. It's a fascinating insight into another country and culture. I would definitely recommend it.

I am reading the Mill on the Floss by George Burns, I think? Its a wonderful story and I still love the simple innocent way its written and virtually travel in time reading it and picturing what a wonderful place the world used to be back then. But I am only through the first chapters I know the gets a bit messy later.. [sunsham68]
Yes I think he did write a book called Stiletto. [Stiletto]

I am reading 'Veronica Decides to Die' by Paulo Coelho. This talks about a girl who has all the reasons to be happy and contented with life but still is bored of life because it doesn't have anything special happening. Life's like a routine for her with no new or different thing happening. And so she decides to commit suicide and ultimately ends up in a mental asylum declared a patient of depression who has just five days to survive because the over-dosage of sleeping pills damages her heart. And it is during these five days of hers she's spending in that asylum, that she she understand what life and living is all about. Am really liking the book a lot. A must read. Not too heavy or depressive. [Shilpi0202]
That sounds interesting - thanks for telling us about it Shilpi0202. I haven't read any of Paulo Coelho's books yet although I have a copy of The Alchemist on the "books still to read" shelf of my bookcase. I may add "Veronica Decides To Die" to it. [Stiletto]

I´m not reading any book, I just don´t have time for it, but thanks for the suggestion. [braveheartpt]
I don't have much time to spend reading either but I usually read in bed (or sometimes in the bath!). Thanks for your response. [Stiletto]

I am currently reading "Front Row", which is about US Vogue editor in chief, Anna Wintour. I'm really enjoying it! [savingstargirl]
I read some good reviews of that book in the newspaper a couple of weeks ago. Might add that to my list. Thanks for your response savingstargirl. [Stiletto]

Right now I am not reading anything. I have just finished a book by a regional author, in Malayalam language. I have bought a book yesterday, "Shipwrecks" by Akira Yoshimura and translated by Mark Ealey. I will start it tomorrow. Its about a poor coastal village in medieval Japan. [SunSix]
I read it a couple of weeks ago SunSix - really enjoyed it as I'm sure you will too. It's quite a clever and unusual story I think. Thanks for your response. [Stiletto]

I'm reading two books at the moment, one at home in the evenings and one on the bus to and from work. The first book is 'The Reality Dysfunction' by Peter F. Hamilton. It is science fiction set in the year 2611. Its told from multiple points of view, but the main character is an independent starship captain. Humanity finds itself under attack from an unknown and vastly superior enemy and must find a way to defeat the threat before their society is destroyed. The second book is 'Excession' by Iain M. Banks. This is also science fiction (this isn't all I read, I'm just on a sci-fi kick at the moment). I've barely gotten into this one, so I don't know what its about yet. [chuckt9881]
I used to read quite a lot of science fiction but not so much now. I know what you mean about being on a sci-fi kick. I go through phases with the types of books I read too. Thanks for your response. [Stiletto]

well rite now i m readin my university book name as security analysis-finance related book [chintan_inc]
ok. Thanks for your response chintan_inc [Stiletto]

I am reading God Delusion, I recommend it only if you want to know if you have an open mind and have interest in religion issues (atheism). The next book I think I will read is 1984, by Orwell (this month I am reading again some books I already read some time ago). [jricbt]
I quite often go back to books that I've not read for years. I've not read 1984 since I was at school so that would be a good one or Animal Farm of course. Loved that book when we studied it at school. Thanks for your response [Stiletto]

I'm reading THE SAME SWEET GIRLS by Cassandra King. It's Chick Lit but for the more "seasoned" chick. The Same Sweet Girls is the name of a club of six southern belles who went to college together. They meet twice a year for a weekend. When the book begins they are all on the cusp of turning fifty. The chapters vary points of view between the characters. We see how their lives have gone and their take on the other women. It's very good. I'm a little more than half through it and expect it will hold my attention to the end. [vicky63401]
Sounds a bit more interesting than the usual Chick Lit stuff which isn't really my cup of tea normally but I have been known to read it if I'm on holiday or whatever. Thanks for your response. [Stiletto]

Do textbooks count? I'm reading Ethics by McKinnon. It's a textbook we have to read in my philosophy class. It's not fiction but it's interesting. [timish]
Of course. I did philosophy for a while at college but couldn't really get to grips with it. Good luck with your studying and thanks for your response. [Stiletto]

generally daily night before sleeping i read tinkle book..i know its for kids..but i just love readin it..i just love the characters and the stories..its real fun to read tinkle... [rikroy]
I've not heard of it but some childrens books can be really entertaining. Thanks for your response. [Stiletto]

im reading a lot of pocketbooks all about romance/love stories..i enjoyed reading them... [periwinkle]
I can't get into romance novels - I'm too cynical I guess! Thanks for your response. [Stiletto]

"Knight Life" by Peter david, a re-telling,modernizing of the king Arthur tale. [pendragon]
I've not read any of his books although I've seen some of them in my local bookshop. "The Woad To Wuin" caught my eye - I like a catchy title! Thanks for your response. [Stiletto]

I just finished a book called Durable Goods by Elizabeth Berg. It was for my Adolescent Lit class, and it was very good. It's about a young girl whose father is in the military, she is dealing with a lot of general growing up issues. I think the most interesting parts are about her relationship with her "best friend," a neighborhood girl that she spends time with but who will not speak to her when they are in school. [KerriMarie]
My friends daughter loves Elizabeth Berg books. I hear they're a good read. Sounds like an interesting story. Thanks for your response. [Stiletto]

I am reading the 5 th part of the series "The Wheel Of Time". [nebulous]
I've read the first book "The Eye Of The World" (I think it's called that anyway) which I really enjoyed but not got round to reading the rest yet. Thanks for your response. [Stiletto]

"How to See Yourself as You Really Are" by the Dalai Lama [ComplexMind]
Interesting - not read that one yet. Thanks for your response. [Stiletto]

as of now im enjoying reading my Bible, this book taught me so much things in life, it inspires me a lot. It gives more wisdom to understand how important my life is,God taught me how much He loves us thats why the purpose of His coming is salvation and judgement. [rozebara]
I haven't read the Bible for a long time - I'm afraid years of Sunday School put me off a little! I'm glad that you find it helps you rozebara. Thanks for your response. [Stiletto]

The book I'm currently reading is about a hobby of mine, scrapbooking. It's entitled "A Designer's Eye for Scrapbooking with Patterned Paper", by Ali Edwards. It's about the different ways on how we could use patterned paper in scrapbooking. I would recommend this book to all beginning scrapbookers like me so we wouldn't get lost on how we can make the most of our patterned papers. [yamiboo]
I used to love Scrapbooking when I was a teenager but haven't done it for years. Thanks for your response yamiboo. [Stiletto]

Hi I am bhabesh.I am now reading a best seller,"The monk who sold his ferrari".It is an intresting book also very inspiring . [bhabesh_mohanty347]
Hi bhabesh, I really enjoyed that book too and it is very inspiring. Thanks for your response. [Stiletto]

That book sounds really interesting. I like books that can take me somewhere I've never been and leave me with a new understanding of the world and myself as a member of it. I just finished reading For One More Day by Mitch Albom. It's about appreciating your family and learning to forgive yourself. I definitely recommend it if you like tear jerkers and the surreal. [zuri25]
I'm sure you would enjoy "The Bookseller of Kabul" then because it gives you a glimpse inside the lives of real people from a different culture. Thanks for your response. [Stiletto]

The book I'm reading at present is "AAPILA CHAAPILA", written by Ex-MIC and Economist Mr. Ashok Mitra. It is something like an auto-biography written in a unique style to track historical developments during the pre-independance and post-independance days. I recommend it strongly for anyone who is interested in Modern Indian History. [nilzerous1]
Sounds quite heavy going nilzerous1 but, as you say, I'm sure those interested in Modern Indian History would appreciate it. Thanks for your response. [Stiletto]

I am currently reading "How Should We Then Live" by Francis A. Schaeffer. It is basically a commentary on the degradation of the western culture and how Christians are to live in the midst of it. I would recommend it to any who are interested. [Ethanuel]
Again that sounds very serious but also interesting. Thanks for your response Ethanuel [Stiletto]

i'm reading "memórias póstumas de brás cubas" by machado de assis... this book is very interesting, but some tiring.. the story talk about a dead man that describe your mediocre life until his death.. it's a critical book to the selfish and interest by society. verry good ^-~ [DaniChan]
Thanks for your response DaniChan [Stiletto]

I am reading Darth Maul, Shadow Hunter. As you may suspsect, it is a novel about the Sith Apprentice, Darth Maul, form Phantom Menace. It's an ok book, though I rather prefer Path of Destruction, the one that talks about Darth Bane, who set the "1 Master, 1 Apprentice" rule. If you're a Star Wars fan, read them! [usaction]
You probably won't believe this but I've never seen any of the Star Wars movies! I've seen little bits of the original one because it's always on tv at Christmas but that's it. Thanks for your response usaction. [Stiletto]

I am currently reading an autobiography of an English Footballer, it is called Addicted by Tony Adams, he plays or played for Arsenal Football Club. I'm not into football personally but I do enjoy a good biography. It's about his fight with alcoholism and how he pulled through, losing his wife and the drinking binges. It is a great book and very enjoyable a book which I find hard to put down. [wolfie34]
The last football biography I read was Roy Keane's. Like you I'm not that much into football but I enjoyed that one too. Thanks for your response. [Stiletto]

Your discussion gives me a reminder that it is a long time that I did not read books...I was usually spend my spare time on internet. thanks for this discussion and now I realized that I really should read some books... I will read the book you recommended. [randyequal]
Well I spend too much time on the internet too I think but I love to read as well. If you like finding out how real people in different cultures live you will enjoy it. Thanks for your response. [Stiletto]

Right now, I am reading, Your Best Life Now by Joel Osteen, who is the pastor of Lakewood Church in Houston, TX. It is a very inspiring book and just a great book to read. If you are ever down or just need a quick pick me up, read a little of this book and his powerful words will help guide you back and start thinking positive. [spreadingtheword]
Thanks for the recommendation spreadingtheword. [Stiletto]

i m reading my course books as my exams are near........... ha ha ha [DHARMESH6032]

Thud by Terry Pratchett and The Enchanted Wood by Enid Blyton, both pure fantasy in a fantasy world, I'm reading Enid Blyton to my boys, they are loving it. [rainbow]
Oh The Enchanted Wood! I loved that book when I was younger. Magic! Thanks for your response rainbow. [Stiletto]

At the moment I'm reading John Grisham's "King of Torts." I'm not a John Grisham fan at all, but I'm really enjoying this book. I've even learned what a tort is. My husband, who is Grisham fan, also enjoyed the book. [stuckathome]
I have enjoyed all of John Grisham's books that I have read though I haven't read one for a while. I particular liked The Client. I also like The Painted hlouse. It is a totally different story line for Grisham [deebomb]

At this moment I am working on Web in mylot and trying to earn some money. [zoopash]
Ok - thanks for your response zoopash [Stiletto]

I'm reading Father of Frankenstein by Christopher Bram. It's a fictionalized account of the life director James Whale, and the basis for the movie Gods and Monsters, with Ian McKellan and Brendan Frasier. The screenplay won an oscar for best book adaptation several years ago. [cajundharma]
I enjoyed the movie but haven't read the book. I tend to do one or the other - in fact usually I read the book instead of seeing the movie because I'm not that into movies. Thanks for your response cajundharma [Stiletto]

I am reading The Taking by Dean Koontz. It's eerie and strange. I'm a little more than halfway through. In the story, it seems the world is being overtaken and controlled by otherworldly beings but it's still very mysterious and unknown what's going on. [brimia]
I've read a few Dean Koontz books and they've all been a little eerie and strange. I've enjoyed them though. Thanks for your response brimia [Stiletto]

Nowadays I become more inclined of reading mangas, japanese comics, or scanlations than books. I think the illustration caught my attention and the stories. With books, I prefer to read marketing related books and Tools that can help our business. The books that I already read are Google story, project management, and wealth within your reach books 1 and 2. [haze06]
I read a lot of marketing books as well for business reasons. Thanks for your response. [Stiletto]

Im reading the devil wears prada and it is really good not my usual type of book but it was bought for me. [dangermouse]
Although I'm not that into films I quite fancy seeing that one because I hear it's good as well. Thanks for your response dangermouse [Stiletto]

I'm always reading several books at a time it seems. In the order I started reading them... I'm reading "The Biology of Women" which is a textbook that I bought for fun because it was rather cheap on Ebay. It's fairly interesting, but not enough to get through 700 pages so far. I'm only through about 100 pages of it. I'm also reading "Get Off the Fence!" a self help book about making big decisions. I'm about done with it, as I'm on step 9 out of 10+1 steps (I guess it didn't sound cool for them to just say 11. I think after I'm done with it, I'll either loan it out or sell it on half.com It's good, but I almost never read books twice. Finally, I am reading "The Virgin Suicides" as well, on audio. I really like it so far, but I'm only on the 2nd CD out of 8. [Pigglies]
I used to have several books on the go at one time but not done that for a while now. Thanks for your response Pigglies (that's a cute name by the way!) [Stiletto]

I love to read true stories like the one you are reading. I am reading The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren and I did not know that I would like it, but what a great book and it is helping me to get closer to God. I read my Bible with it and it really helps my faith. It is good reading and if you ever get a chance to read it, it is really worth it. Take care and I will have to read The Bookseller of Kabul! [kimlot]
Thanks for that recommendation kimlot. Yes I would highly recommend The Bookseller of Kabul. I'm sure you would enjoy it. [Stiletto]

I am reading 'The Flower Master' Sujata Massey (a Japaneese autor). It is easy reading detective with a love story line. I never read the Japaneese writes before so it is very interesting, I like it. [svlana]
I've not read many of the Japanese authors either. I enjoy a good detective story though so will bear that one in mind. Thanks for your response svlana [Stiletto]

at the moment I like to read the books of Karl May...I love the principal personage Old Shatterhand and winnetou [emy2006]
I've read Holy Night which I really enjoyed. Keep meaning to get hold of more of his books. Thanks for your response emy2006 [Stiletto]

The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren. This is a very beautiful book, full of hope. It helped me a lot when i was having trouble with my life, when i was in doubt, in the dark, and feeling alone. This book answers the ultimate question of all, "What On Earth Am I Here For?". I would really recommend it to each & everyone of you. This book is very touching, and will help you make difficult decisions seem easier. This book was translated in almost every language. [addicted2luv]
A group of us read and discussed this book at our church. I think it is a very good book. thanks for reminding me I need to read it again. [deebomb]

I'm currently reading "Voices from Slavery" A compendium of slave narratives that was originally published in the 1970's by Norman Yetman. It's an interesting read but a lot of the writing follows the dialect and it slows me down to read it although the stories are interesting. The next book I'm looking to read is "Lisey's story" by Stephen King. [funygirl38]
I sometimes struggle if there's a lot of dialect in writing. I even struggled with Lewis Grassic Gibbons - Sunset Song which has lots of Scots dialect in it and I'm Scottish! Not read a Stephen King book for a while and I usually really enjoy them too. Thanks for your response funygirl38 [Stiletto]

The book I'm reading right now (which I think is really good, btw) is "Overcoming Autism: Finding the Answers, Strategies, and Hope That Can Transform a Child's Life." I've renewed it twice already from my local library.. partly because I just don't have a lot of time to read, being a mom of 2 little kids. But it's a great read! [sylviekitty]
Thanks for your response sylviekitty. [Stiletto]

Oh, good question! I'm reading James Patterson "Cross". I love it! I'm almost done. I highly reccommend this book. [apky12]
Not read that one yet apky12 but I've enjoyed other James Patterson novels. Thanks for your response. [Stiletto]

I am reading Down to Earth ...by Faith Addis. Its a hilarious book about a couple who move from London to the Devon countryside and take up farming in fits and starts..... [maidei]
I've read that - it is very funny. Thanks for your response maidei [Stiletto]

I am reading The Dynamic Laws of Prosperity by Catherine Ponder. This is an excellent book. I also am reading a few others, but they are related to my work. There are just too many good books to read and little time to get to them all. [sigma77]
I know - so many books and not enough time. Thanks for your response. [Stiletto]

I'm currently reading Fyodor Dostoevsky's "Crime & Punishment." If you have the patience for classics, go for it. I'm enjoying it; you really get into the character's mind as it goes through his trials and issues with life. Not "easy reading" by any means, but still an excellent piece of literature. [ancazur]
I started reading that book a few years and gave up quite early on. Will have another try sometime. It's not easy reading is it? Thanks for your response ancazur [Stiletto]

I'm re-reading "Song of ice and fire" by George RR Martin at the moment, and yeah its a fantasy novel. Martin has very well structured and thoughtful writing, his characters are also top notch. If i had to rate the book i'd equate him to a modern day Tolkien. Just my two cents :) [m3ph1st0]
I've not read any of his novels - I like Tolkien though so might give that one a try. Thanks for your response. [Stiletto]

im reading "i kiss you" from ronald dahl.its ver wonderfull book.it includes 11 strange storories [m_yilmaz001]
Yes his books are really entertaining I think. Thanks for your response. [Stiletto]

I am currently reading the book "Connecting" by Dr. Harold Sala. Im only just began and yet I already enjoying it. It's about marriage and how could you make it work. He gives guidelines and advise regarding the different situation and problem evolving in a marriage, and how will you handle that problem. It's really good specially if you wanted your marriage to last longer. I just bought it in a christian bookstore. [tholitz]
I could have done with that book! Thanks for your response tholitz [Stiletto]

I am reading "Eight Ways to Keep the Devil Under Your Feet" by Joyce Meyer. I'm about half way through it. I love it. I can't wait to go back through it again and take my time with it. It's about living as Jesus lived; holding your tongue, not getting into arguements, praising God, how to love others and just keeping the devil at a distance so you can live in peace. I definately recommend it. I'm already going to share my book with a friend as soon as I'm done with it. [healthymom]
Sounds interesting healthymom - great title! Thanks for your response. [Stiletto]

I'm reading Therapy by David Lodge. I wouldn't recommend it. I like his other books and this one is the worst so far. It isn't holding my interest that well, and it is only the odd funny moment that is keeping me going with it. [michelledarcy]
Ok - thanks for your response and the warning! [Stiletto]

I just finished one book today, by an Argentine writer "Las viudas de los jueves" (thursday's widows), and I'm excited to start a new book tomorrow: My brother brought me a new book from his business trip, it's the new book by Norman Mailer: "The Castle in the Forest". I heard some excellent reviews about it.. so I'm looking forward to it [dani_nemi]
Never read any of Norman Mailer's books but one of my friends is a huge fan of his. Thanks for your response. [Stiletto]

No, I am not reading any book at this moment. I like to read Journalism when i am free. [vekyengineer]
Ok, thanks for your response [Stiletto]

Right now i'm reading Cell by Stephen King. It's about a terrosit attack through cell phones that makes peope turn into zombie like things. [JashleyB]
Love Stephen King but not read that one yet. Thanks for your response. [Stiletto]

The book I am reading right now is The attraction Factor. It is an Awsome book about what you think of and teaches basic principles of getting what you want out of life [ladygator]
Sounds interesting - I'll look out for it then. Could always do with some self-improvement! Thanks for your response. [Stiletto]

No idea... i not like to read books =D [luizeba]

I am reading Cell by Stephen King. So far so good, very "night of the living dead"-ish.. but he dedicates it to George Romero, so no surprise there. I would recommend it, one of his better books so far and I am only 1/2 way into it. [BizarreTees]
Another one reading Cell - must try that one. Thanks for your response. [Stiletto]

I'm reading "The Bell Jar" by Sylvia Plath. It's quite good thus far. The protagonist is a sort of girl version of Holden Caulfield from "The Catcher In The Rye." She's very driven academically, but then wins a contest to go to New York, and while she's there, she realizes that she really isn't doing what she wants to do. I can relate :) [carrieacow]
I love Sylvia Plath. She's not a particularly easy read but worthwhile persevering. Thanks for your response. [Stiletto]

me still stuck up wid mein kampf.....quite a struggle to complete it...esp bcoz of its historical data [aks00711]
I gave up with that one I'm afraid. Thanks for your response [Stiletto]

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix There are some characters that are in Order of the Phoenix who have not and never been cast, and, if casting announcements remain as they are now, are cut from the film adaptation. Kreacher is confirmed to appear;[1] however, no announcement regarding the casting of his voice has been made. [BlaKy2]

I'm reading several at the moment but the main one is called The Corset Diaries by Katie MacAlister. It's a cutesy romance, a wee bit on the silly side, but she's a good story-teller and I always get into her characters. I'd recommend it and any of her other books, as well. [jasper17]
Thanks for your response jasper17 [Stiletto]

Currently I am reading "Fish". Just started today actually. It is by Stephen C. Lundin, Ph.D., Harry Paul, and John Christensen. Description:: "A powerful parable that will help you love the work you do - even if you can't always do work that you love. Addressing today's most pressing work issues with an engaging metaphor and an appealing message that applies to anyone in any sector of any organization, FISH! offers wisdom that is easy to grasp, instantly applicable, and profound - the hallmarks of true business classic." (I would like to be a hotel owner/GM one day, so this is the reason I read this book. I think that anyone in a position looking to strive highr should read tihs book. GO GET IT NOW! *Only if the real world is something you want to conquor* [Laydee83]
Not a problem. I think its great so far. Very much in detail and very much of use. I hope you get your copy (try Barnes & Noble and even Boarders) and I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. Take care. [Laydee83]

I am currently reading "Machine crusade" By Brian Herbert and Kevin Amderson. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys long stories. it is a prequeal to the orginal Dune series by Frank Herbert. It is the story of how the Humans Wage a war against the thinking machines and there Cymek allies. I know i just sounded like a complete nerd but give me a break it is my first post after all. [ox3100]
thanks this set is written by the original dune creators son. [ox3100]

I am reading now the Catcher in the Rye....great old book! [Mattworld]
Yes that is a great book. Not read it for years though. Thanks for your response [Stiletto]

I just finished the Book of Fate, by Brad Meltzer. I was disappointed in it. I was expecting something more than your run of the mill adventure book. It barely mentioned Freemasonry at all, and gave very little historical informantion. I like to mix more facts with my fiction, and this wasn't it. Oh, well, on to the next. Reading Warlock by Wilbur Smith now, just a chapter into it. [Myrilia]
Wilbur Smith is usually a good read so you might have more luck with that book. Thanks for your response Myrilia [Stiletto]

I'm reading Nick Hornby's How to be Good... I recommend it to people who enjoy British humor... [lotsa_cash]
Not read any of Nick Hornby's books yet but I've heard they're very good. Might give that one a try. Thanks for your response. [Stiletto]

at present am reading ONE NITE @ THE CALL CENTRE by CHETAN BHAGAT... its so thrilling.. it describes the life of call centre employees during night shift and in this book everything is normal as usual but then here it describes the personal and professional life and what happens when these two are mixed.. and then the ultimate' CALL FROM GOD' its so goodd.. I read that book years ago on a beach somewhere. Glad you're enjoying it. Thanks for your response. [Stiletto]

I am reading Nora Roberts Valley of Silence. It is the third in a trilogy about vampires and sorcery. She adds a little romance to boot. As with all of her books, I recommend it. [jhrcsr]
I've not read any of her books yet so will bear that one in mind. Thanks for your response. [Stiletto]

Am reading "good old madras" by B.M Croker. It's about an englishman who comes to Madras,India in search of his uncle who got lost some thirty years ago! It's an old book and written in the old english style:) [mridula123]
Thanks for your response mridula123 [Stiletto]

I am currently reading the Iliad by Homer. It's for my History exam next week. I don't usually read Classical books such as this but I find it very much interesting and I get to learn more about ancient history as well. [katweena]
I did that one at college as well. Yes it's a good story. Thanks for your response. [Stiletto]

text book.. . [kerbausama]

Seven Pillars of Wisdom by T.E. Lawrence. He is Lawrence of Arabia. The book is of his life. [jumpinjack00]
Yes I've read it. He was an interesting character. Thanks for your response [Stiletto]

I am currently reading the Agatha Christie Mysteries (the old one which is a hard-bound collection). I wouldn't really recommend it to those who are looking for mystery/detective plots that are fast-paced. This is kinda slow. I'm still on the first chapter up to now because I'm getting so bored at it, and it's quite predictable. The style of writing is old. Well, perhaps some people would enjoy it but not me! Hehe. I'm reading through other people's responses here. It's interesting because I love to read and I could perhaps get a suggested book or two from here. Thanks! [ag_abscruzmd]
I really like Agatha Christie but I understand what you mean - they're written in a completely different style to modern detective stories. I know the response are great aren't they? No excuse for not knowing what book to buy now! Thanks for your response [Stiletto]

I'm about to finish reading the book "Who Moved My Cheese" by Dr. Spencer Johnson. It's a self-help book about dealing with changes and the quest for happiness and success. I started reading it this morning while im on my way to the office, it's a thin book that's why im almost through reading it. It's one of the finest book i've ever read. It has a great impact on my life and in fact i'm planning to look for another job now to find my "cheese". I highly recommend it to those who are not satisfied with their present situations. [invictus27]
Sounds like it's had quite an effect on you invictus27! Good luck with the changes you make as a result. Thanks for your response. [Stiletto]

I am reading "The Innocent Man" by John Grisham. His latest book. This is a great book. If you believe that in America you are innocent until proven guilty, this book will shock you. If you believe in the death penalty, this book will disturb you. If you believe the criminal justice system is fair, this book will infuriate you. [EdwardF]
Grisham's books are great aren't they? I'm a big fan of his. Not read that one yet though. Thanks for your response. [Stiletto]

I never read books. i read online and view Video tutorials [tinkutr]

oh man I wish I was reading a book right now but I am not, I am so busy with so many other things it is just crazy what is going on in my life. I have to get a handle on things, and I have to work hard to make sure that I do not neglect my friends here on mylot. You all are great and again I wish I was reading a good book,...Anyone got any suggestions? [sanell]

My husband and I are currently reading the Bible together every night. He bought me a book called the Confident Woman by JOyce Meyer. The last novel I read or listened to was an audio book by John Grisham called The Summons [allyzha]
Thanks for your response allyzha [Stiletto]

i dont have interest to read novels... [honest007]

im currently readin The Pillars of the Earth. written by Ken Follett, one of my favorite author ever. its a story of passion and idealism which describes a group of men and women in the Middle Ages whose destinies are fatefully link to the building of the cathedral. its a nice story and captivating. at first i was dubious becasue of the size, its a 973 page book and thankfully im almost done now. [MGjhaud]
Wow that's a lot of reading! Well done for getting through it. Thanks for your response [Stiletto]

the purpose driven life by rick warren. This book will enable you to discover the answer to life's most important question like what on earth am i here for? By the end of the journey you will know God's purpose for your life and will understand the big picture, how all the pieces of your life fit together. At the end of every chapter there's this section called point to ponder where it summarizes the principle in the whole chapter. Another part is the question at the last part of each chapter. those questions will help you think about the implications of what you have read and how it applies to you personally and from there you can write your reflections. [mpl8476]
A couple of others have also mentioned this book so it's obviously popular. Thanks for your response [Stiletto]

I'm currently reading "Road to Nowhere" by Christopher Pike. An old favorite I just recently got in the mail! I'd reccomend it to anybody whose not easily frightened and likes odd things. It's about a gil who goes for a drive..she's running away, for many different reasons. When she picks up a couple of hitchhikers..who tell some very strange tales..anyway it turns out that she's actually near death and imagined the whole drive. The two hitchhikers are also dead, but they were there to help her figure out whether to live or die..that's pretty much all I remember about it heh. [xParanoiax]
Not read that one but sounds like a good read. Thanks for the recommendation [Stiletto]

A book on Java.I cannot end that book so early as it unfolds each time the new mysteries of Java.Java is a really wonderful programming language and it is really nice to go through it. [anup12]
You're smarter than me then anup12. I gave up with "Java for Dummies"! Thanks for your response and enjoy the book. [Stiletto]

No I am not reading a book at the moment. I am not a very good book reader and I have a friend who has her nose in a book all the time and she can have it read in two days. I am so jealous of her. The only books that I have read in my life time are Stephen Kings books. Christine,The Girl Who Loved Tom Jordon,he had a book that was about his life and I can't remember the name of the title. [LadyMargaret]
I just can't imagine not reading although I don't have as much time to read as I would like at the moment. Thanks for your response LadyMargaret [Stiletto]

I've read "The Bookseller of Kabul" and it's a great book. I loved it, and passed it along to a friend to read. I am currently reading Barak Obama's book "The Audacity of Hope," which is very well written for a politician. It also is a very upbeat book, choosing to focus on the things that unite us as a country (the US), rather than the Politics that tear us apart. There are so many wonderful books out there, and reading is one of my favorite things to do. [AnythngArt]
I'm glad you liked "The Bookseller of Kabul" - nearly finished it now. Reading is one of my favourite things too but as you say, there are so many wonderful books around and not enough time to read them all. Thanks for your response. [Stiletto]

"chicken soup for mother and daughter". it's a collection of inspirational stories about mother-daughter relationship and i admit, they are stories that made me cry. guess im too emotional because i got carried away.. [jam0114]
I've read Chicken Soup For The Soul and I have to admit that much of it was a bit too sentimental for me but there again I'm an old cynic! There were some interesting and inspiring bits in though. Thanks for your response. [Stiletto]

I had to add one last comment because it just baffles me why people who aren't reading anything bother to answer. How does that help anyone? The point of the question is to share information about good books or books that we should avoid reading. There's a wide range of tastes and some very thoughtful answers, and then there are people who say they are too busy or don't like to read. Why would you even get into this discussion? Just curious. [AnythngArt]
I know - it's fairly irritating but you get it in almost every discussion thread I'm afraid. I imagine they do it simply because they get 1 or 2 cents for responding. I used to be quite abrasive with my responses to that type of post but now I tend not to acknowledge their contribution at all because it just legitimises it I think. Having said that sometimes people have just not read the topic correctly (especially if English is not their first language) so I try to give some the benefit of the doubt. It's a shame because some people put lots of thought into their responses and there are some great answers on this particular discussion. My "books to read" list is now massive! [Stiletto]

good topic i love this topic [pakarena]

good topic i love this topic [pakarena]

Currently reading a non fiction book called "the guide to a super power memory". All about training your memmory to remember names , faces and numbers with incredible ease. Everyone says they have poor memory but they really have an untrained one and the great thing is you can improve it. Interesting. [eliza_bennet]
Now that's a book I could do with reading! I have a terrible memory - I'm so forgetful nowadays and I know that you can improve your memory through training. Will bear that one in mind - thanks for your response. [Stiletto]

I don't like sharing my books with others. Only a person close to me. But I'll say that the book is from Stephen King. And it is the second best book that I have ever read. I love reading and it's a passion of mine. But I don't think reading is always something good. A bad author can ruin a person. [cillerman]
I've liked every Stephen King book that I've read and I've read quite a few. Thanks for your response cillerman [Stiletto]

I am reading "To kill a mockingbird" by harper lee. I have read this book countless number of times, but it never gets old, everytime i bring it out and start reading it again i fall in love with the characters all over again. Its a timeless story and will always be a favourite [willocfc]
Yes it's a true classic willocfc. Thanks for your response. [Stiletto]

i like reading novels. i m currently reading LIFE OF PI. this is winner of the Man Booker Prize 2002. this has been written by YANN MARTEL. [imrajesh]
I LOVED that book! Such an unusual idea and it worked so well. Very cleverly written. Thanks for your response imrajesh [Stiletto]

Once again I am rereading the Diana Gabaldon series.. i'm on book 3 Voyager. It's a great series. Great plot, great characters, I absolutely love the whole series. I tell everyone they just have to read it. It's about a lady who goes back 200 years through a circle of stones in Scotland. She ends up there during the Scotish rebellion. The authoress has researched well and she is a wonderful writer. I get right caught up in the story even though I've read the entire series probably at least a half dozen times now. I laugh, I cry, I fall in love. [imsilver]
I've not read any of her books but you've made them sound very appealing! Particularly the one you're reading because I live in Scotland. Will definitely look out for them - thanks for your response imsilver. [Stiletto]

First he has no idea that his ability is not common. One day he found out that his ability is special and he become obsessed with scent. He learned about keep the scent as perfume. One day, he found out that the best scent in the world is: The scent of a virgin. Then, he start to sniff everyone and decided to enjoy the scent of the virgin, also keep that scent. Then, he start to kill. Overall: Nice book. Love it. Unpredictable ending. [linoleum]
It's just been made into a movie as well hasn't it? I tend to read the book rather than watch the movie anyway so will add that one to my list - sounds interesting. Thanks for your response linoleum [Stiletto]

I've just finish reading the "THE VISION" by Tom Brown Jr., America's most respected outdoorsman reveals the secret of the American Indian's Vision Quest, an odyssey of self-knowledge and fulfillment, a spiritual journey into the wilderness and the soul. It is a dramatic true story of one man's search for enlightenment. [kategwen]
Sounds interesting kategwen - I've not heard of him but then I'm not American! Thanks for your response. [Stiletto]

I'm reading three stories in one book by three authors i can't remember. I forgot to take it with me today. All three stories got the same theme, marriage of convenience. I bought it a month or so ago to get some insights into the lives of women who marry not for love but for different reasons like money. I'm already done reading them but since I haven't bought new batch of books yet, I'm entertaining myself reading them again. A coworker of mine offered me a chance to get married to a foreigner whom I never even met. I was bummed at that time that i found myself agreeing to her proposal. I don't know if the offer still stands. I got to see her soon if I want to get ahead of other hopefuls. lol [jackie_mmm]
Trust me - marriage is hard enough when you do love someone! I'd have second thoughts about your coworkers proposal - unless there's loads of money involved of course ;) Thanks for your response [Stiletto]

I enjoy reading but now I haven't time to read....I must study for university and I have a little baby so i read university's books [martinagiordano]
I know - sometimes it's difficult to fit in all the things you want to do. Especially with a baby! Thanks for your response [Stiletto]

I read Undead series by Maryjanice Davidson. It's hilarious! You'll have second thought regarding vampires! [joannmae18]
Ok - not heard of it but I like a laugh so will remember that one. Thanks for your response [Stiletto]
