I borrowed a book from my boyfriend's brother. Necessary Losses by Judith Viorst. It's about the loves, illusions, dependencies, and impossible expectations that all of us have to give up in order to grow. I really haven't gone that far yet but I am enjoying it.
How about you? Are you reading any book at present? What is it?

I started reading a book by Charles Dickens called Hard Times. It's pretty good, it's a really poignant look at some of the results of the "facts only" craze that went on at the time. The character live in this town that is attempting to function on the basis of fact only, and in so doing removing all form of emotion, art, imagination. He uses the term "fancy" to describe things that require some imagination, like carpets that have flowers on them or paintings of horses on the wall. It's very sad what this life does to the 2 of the children who were raised like this. They are so stuffed full of facts and deprived of almost every childhood experience that at 15 or 16 they are unhappy, tired of their lives and have little hope for their futures. [DelicateFlower]
I had to study Hard Time for university last term. I really enjoyed i. I liked the contrast Dickens made between fact and imagination. [ohwellie]
Well, I just finished a book by Lisa Jackson called Shiver. It was a really good book. I started reading Strangers by Dean Koontz, but I'm also in the middle of reading Fear Nothing by Dean Koontz. I didn't have the Fear Nothing book with me in the van when I finished the other one so I started reading the new one instead. I kind of jump back and forth between the two. [michelyn]
I also have tried reading two books at the same time. I mean, not simultaneously of course. I think we really end up doing such when there are several good books at hand. [dolce_vita78]
I am reading Introduction to Western Philosophy by Garret Thomson. It deals with the Philosophy of Descartes, Leibnix, Spinoza, Locke, Berkeley, Hume and Kant. [headhunter525]
I've got a few thing on the go: I'm reading The portrait of the young man as an artist - James Joyce, for university. I'm really enjoying it, it's so weird and very similar to Dylan Thomas's stuff (which I love.) I'm also reading two plays The Rover by Aphra Behn and Man of Mode, which are restoration plays and very bawdy. For my own reading list, I'm reading Vile Bodies by Evelyn Waugh, which is really good but it was a little hard to get into. [ohwellie]

Darkest Evening of the Year by Dean Koontz...excellent; page turner, must read! [lolalolacherrycola]
I am reading 3 different books right now. Douglas Adams' "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency", John Gray's "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus", and a book on freelance writing. Douglas Adams' work is difficult to describe... funny.. random... entertaining, etc. I just completed the HitchHiker series, and want to read more of his work. John Gray, well, I really adore self help books, and it's an excellent source on the differences between men and women and how we see and say things differently. And as for the freelance writing book, I've had it for many years, but now is the time to finally read it. I have an incredible story or two to tell (non fiction), and I want to learn how to best put it in print. :) [CanadaGal]
I just finished reading "Sleep No More" by Greg Iles, which was fine but not as good as most of his collection. Now, Im reading "The Talisman" by Stephen King. Im currently in page sixty and its good so far, but I have yet to reach the breakneck speed point. [zenmachado]
I'm trying to read Running with the Demon by Terry Brooks. [Babygirl89jks]
At present I'm reading "Zoya" by Danielle Steel, my favorite author as I often identify with most of her unforgettable characters. Actually, I just started reading it, am still in Chapter 2...it's exciting how Steel builds her character, this time in the person of Zoya, who is just barely 17 years old when war erupted, killing her only brother. Well, I can't say much now, but I really love Steel's brand of keeping readers glued to every page...unputdownable...that's the way to describe it, the whole experience with Steel's plots and characters. But I read to improve further my communication skills, too aside from the vicarious experience the book provides .... [psyche49f]

Hi. Right now I'm actually reading two books at the same time. One is a Stephen King novel, the other is a book about Paul Benardo and Karla Holmolka. The Stephen King book is about some kind of aliens, and the other one is actually pretty disgusting because it gives the details of what they did to all those women, and the murders of those two school girls, and Karla's little sister. [KhittiKhat77]
I am reading Beautiful Dreamer by Elizabeth Lowell. I like it because it shows determination and grit when all odds were against the heroine. It also shows that dreams are good for the soul. [cdparazo]
Hi there dolce_vita78! I am currently reading the second book of The Wheel of Time Series. It's a countinuation of Moiraine, and Lan's search for the Dragon Reborn. I really love the way it was written because it can take me away like really being into the scenes in the book. Sometimes, I'm having a difficult time doing anything else. It's also nice because it helps me expand my vocabulary. [nanayangel]
presently i am reading the "THE GREATEST SALESMAN IN WORLD" it's awesome...i like it very much...maybe you can read this soon. a good presentation for us to know. [julyteen]
I am reading a book named "The Road to Reality" by K.P. Yohannan. It is about the REAL way to walk, think, talk and live as a true born again Christian. I can only read a page or two at a time because it has been a TRUE eye opener for me and I need to soak in what I have just read....It is NOT real deep it is just life changing...and I am praying I will truly surrender my ALL to the Lord Jesus Christ! I recommend ALL born again Christians should read this book...Have a Blessed Day!!! [lyonslady]
I'm reading "Midwives" by Chris Bohjalian. Here's a synopsis of it :) "Sybil Danforth, an uncertified lay midwife in rural Vermont, gets into trouble when she performs an emergency Caesarian on a minister's wife. Sybil's daughter, Connie, looks back to 1981 to tell the story of the murder trial" It captures you right from the first page, its witty, thrilling, heart-wrenching and a great read so far. [maddysmommy]
I just finished the book I was reading and want to read the next one in the series but I seem to have misplaced it and I'm very troubled by this! I really wanted to read it and its going to drive me nuts till I find it. Its by V.C. Andrews its called Twilights child. [shaggin]
I am reading False Prophet by Faye Kellerman, It is book 5 of a 16 book series. It is really very good, and well written. [kimbers867]
I'm reading Red Lily by Nora Roberts. It's the last book in the series of three. The first one was Blue Dahlia, the second one was Black Rose, and the third is Red Lily. I've really enjoyed this series. It's about a ghost that is in the Harper House and she hates men but she loves children. So each time one of the women in the Harper house meets a man this ghost gets mad and does mean things. They are trying to figure out why this ghost is there and what happened to her. [sweetgirl_k1]
"Sleep No More" by Greg Iles. I love to read. I am struggling a bit to get into this book right now. My favorite author is Dean Koontz. Of his books, I like the Odd Thomas series and the 2 books he has written about Christopher Snow. He has another one in the Christopher Snow series. His last was written in 1999 and he anticipates having the 3rd in the series out in 2009 so, that is a huge gap but, the story of Christopher Snow is so worth the wait! I am looking forward to the newest edition in the Odd Thomas series titled "Odd Hours". That one is due sometime soon. I think either next month or April or May. Anyway, I can't wait! I am a huge mystery, supernatural, suspense, thriller fan. [cortjo73]
