What Do You Do With Books That You Already Have Read

There are some of us who really invest in books while others just borrow from the public library, school library or from friends. For those of you who spend money on books whether you buy from the bookstore or buy second hand books from thrift shops, what do you do with those books after reading them? Do you keep it or do you give it away? If you keep it, are they in a shelf or are they in boxes? For those who give it away, to whom do you give the books? I have shelves for my books. So after reading them, I keep them neatly in my shelf. Those that are really old, I keep them in boxes. I do this to have enough space in my shelves for new books.

If they are books I know I will read again, then I keep them. Sometimes, I will trade them in the used book store, and I have been known to sell some on eBay as well. I have also given some books away and let people borrow them, although I have learned that if I loan, I better not expect it back, which I guess really means I'm giving those away, too. [dfn12968]
You have a good strategy... Trading them means that you can also have the book that you wish to read but was not able to buy earlier. [dolce_vita78]

I keep the ones that I know I'm going to read again. I mean, I bought it, I paid for the rights to read it whenever I want, I'm going to keep it. I have shelves for me to keep my books, but that shelf is quickly becoming too small (I think it was too small a few years ago). So I have to figure out another place to put all of my books. [highflyingxangel]

I keep the books I'll definitely read again, I sell what I can and the ones I can't sell, I give to charity shops. Even if I had the space for a lot of books I wouldn't keep them, someone else should have the pleasure of reading them if I don't want to. These days I can't afford to buy so I use the library. [Foxfire1875]

I have a small library in my house and a small bookshelf in there. I keep all of my books on my bookshelf. I will lend them but, whomever I lend them too knows that I want it back when they are done. I love books to much to just give them away, sell them or toss them. I rarely borrow from the library and never borrow from a friend. There is something so exciting about a brand new, unread book to me. [cortjo73]

I read them again and again and again. The ones that aren't my favorites wind up on the shelves in my bedroom or stashed away in boxes, but the ones I really enjoy wind up scattered all over my house because I pick them up constantly to either reread the entire book or just favorite parts of it. Right now under my computer desk I can see several books: Of Darkness, Light, and Fire by Tanya Huff, Bleeding Hearts: Love Poems for the Nervous and Highly Strung, a few volumes of Naruto manga, and several roleplaying books. I suppose I should be more careful with my books and keep them all put away neatly all the time, but I just have a habit of carrying them around and picking them up randomly to read. I don't typically buy hardcovers or expensive books for this reason. [lecanis]

I put them back on the book shelf. I also loan them out to my sister or mom. I have books I enjoyed as a young adult that are waiting for my girls to read them. I also have children's books that once they are done with them I will save for my grandchildren some day. I love books & could never just get rid of them. [crystal8577]

some of them I keep in case i want to read them again, those are few and far between though. We have a little reading club where I work, and we all bring in books that have been read and swap them for other ones we havent read, then they get passed on to someone else. If i have ones that people have read and no one wants I donate them to my local library, they are always more than happy to have them. [melissaruth1]
Being in a book club or reading club is really advantageous. We could share our books with the other members of the group. That way, you don't even have to spend just to buy a book that you want to read. Besides, it is very much possible that the other members of the club have the books you would like to read. [dolce_vita78]

Most of the books i've already read are just stored in my bookshelf and if you cant the e-book, they are in my hard drive. But some of them I just re-read them, especially the books bout programming, and novels. I love re-reading most of the books i have coz i sometimes miss out something. [martus]

They usually go back on my book shelves after I have read them. My neighbor borrows them from time to time and sometimes I offer to send them to friends and family. I don't have a large collection and there are still some on my shelves I have not read yet. [maddysmommy]

The ones that i really loved i keep to myself, but the rest i donate to a close library. Past december iīve donated 70 books and 30 magazines!!! [Saicows]
To be honest. Thatīs no kindness. That should be everyone habit because youīre helping those librarys that canīt build a big collection of books. And also, the poor people can read those expensive books that you already read twice!!! [Saicows]

I always keep the books by my favorite authors or if it's a book I really liked. As for the others, I'll put them aside until I have a pretty good stash to take to a bookstore that buys them. Right now though, they're all going into the garage sale pile. If they don't sell there, then I will take them to the store. I will never let people borrow my books again. I never got the last one back, even though the person promised they would return it. That was nearly three years ago and I had to fight with them to get a new book. When the book came, it wasn't even the original that I had. [Reesers]
There really are disadvantages of lending our books to other people.. That's why, I only lend books to people whom I trust... [dolce_vita78]

well mine i keep it in the book shelves after reading. I treasured all the books that i had bought from the stores and keep it for myself. It also beneficial for my family members and my son to have something to read at home whenever they feel like. [Leigh12]

The majority of my books are on the shelves. I re-read many of them so I like to keep them close. I have almost the whole Dean Koontz collection, a lot of James Patterson and John Sandford. I also go a little into sci-fi fantasy with R. A. Salvatore. I trade some with my sister as she likes Patterson and Sandford. When I am ready to weed through my 'library' I try to find a bookstore that buys or trades books. It makes absolutely no sense to just throw them away or keep them boxed up 'just in case'. If you liked the book, maybe someone else will, too. Also, in my collection is 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas', and Sesame Streets 'The monster at the End of This Book', and 'Another Monster at the End of this Book'. [jessigirl116]

I have a bookshelf as well. And I keep many books on the shelf after reading them. I also have a box in my garage. But my sister in law told me about this wonderful site bookmooch.com where you can put old books you have read on the site and hunt fo others you'd like to read. You don't pay for the books. You trade them. You only pay for the shipping of the books people want that you have. So I am going through my books. And putting them on the site. [ersmommy1]
It's really great to have a site like bookmooch. Cheers! [dolce_vita78]

Hello! I used to purchase a lot of books from book clubs, yard sales, etc. I only keep a few of the ones I truly loved reading as sometimes I enjoy re-reading them. Otherwise, I usually donate them to charity since there is not enough space for a library in the house. I love to collect old ones too! They make a nice addition to a coffee table. [di1159]

I can't part with my books, except for those I borrow from the library. I don't know why I am keeping them. I mostly keep those of my favourite authors but I think I have every book I have ever bought. They are all on shelves in various places in my house. I have a huge shelf in the basement filled with books I have yet to read. I brought those home from my mother's after my father passed away. I don't know whether I will ever get around to reading all the books I have in this house, but I certainly can't bear to part with any of them. And I don't read books a second time. There are too many other ones out there waiting for me to read them. [patgalca]

I just keep collecting them, dolce_vita, I rarely read a book twice, I just let them pile up. I have a hard time letting books go. [CurlyRed]

i am such a book person, OMG i love to read and i don't even know how many books i have for sure. hundreds I bet. they are all stacked in my closet from floor to ceiling. i sometimes think about selling them but then i hate to part with them [34momma]

I keep most of my books that I buy in shelves. Somehow I see them as a reflection of my personality, thatīs why I canīt get rid of them. Nevertheless, sometimes I lend them, but only to friends that I know will take good care of them. [Asclepios]

I think you should give them to the library, leave them at Starbuck book exchange, or freecycle books you loved but won't read again. However, truth be told I tend to hold onto these books -- even if I won't read them again. I guess that's because I think, maybe, one day my daughter might learn something about my personality by picking up some of the books I read and kept. [owatagoosiam]

I buy all my box from the thrift store sometimes if there's a sale in a bookstore i buy also.all my books are special to me. I love all my books so i keep it and they are in my shelf, i don't put it in the box rat might eat it. [anna_82]

I tend to read and re-read books until they fall apart and get thrown away, I have 4 kids who often destroy my books or they get wet or spilled on, so most of the time I buy cheap books so I really don't care if they get ruined or not. I have some very old books that I have in plastic bags and keep out of my kids hands, but I have learned not to collect things like books and stuff that I really like or that are expensive because my kids tend to destroy them. Mooch [oneandonemakesix]

I just love books! I think they are a great legacy you can give to your children and their children after that. If I can afford it I always try to buy hardbound books and display them on shelves. I dream of having a personal library someday even if it's just a section on a wall somewhere in my home cheers! [anaknitatay]
You are right, these books are those that we can pass on to our children and their children... [dolce_vita78]

I will keep books which I have already read them. I like to collect them. I like to own something I like rather than borrowing it. I can read them some time later again. Or I can leave it to my son. When he grows up, these books will be useful for him. [youless]

I used to give them to a Women's Prison Project. Now I rent books at Booksfree.com on a monthly basis. If I ever purchase any I send them for booksfree for credit on my account to purchase books from them. [redlass33]

Books and reading are definite passions of mine. When I am finished reading a book, I usually keep it. I have a special built in bookcase in my living room where most of these books reside. Sometimes I will donate books I know that I will never touch again. But for the most part, the books I buy are special to me, i.e. sets of books, series, etc. And I will not part with them except maybe to loan them to people I know. I just find it really hard to part with my books as I consider them "friends." [Lillith]

I do love books also. We usually buy books on sale and some that are educational. I am a librarian before so more or less I know how to record and arrange books. We also have shelves for books and we dont buy fiction books. Some books we give to other person or to some public libraries. Although I know how to arrange we just put the books even not on its shelve, so its some kind of topsy turvy sometimes. [bagumbayan]

Over the years I've probably given away or sold as many books as I've got at present at home. And I've still got plenty of books. IN fact, we recently put carpet down throughout the house, and apart from moving the furniture the thing that was most difficult was having to shift all the books around. http://www.workreport.net/down-she-goes/ [mcrowl]

I love books and I love to read. I have boxes upon boxes of books in my garage and three shelves full of books. I buy them mostly any more from Half Price Books in Indianapolis, Indiana. But buy elsewhere on occassions also. I homeschool my kids, so not only do I have books for myself, but for any age group. We have family, that has little ones, that I pass them on to when my youngest has read and out grown them, but I have thousands, and my daughter loves to read also, I buy her books and grandma spoils her and buys lots upon lots of books on ebay. I also still have books from when I was a teenager, that I passed on to my daughter. She loves to read, just about everything that I do. I don't limit her on what she can read, and she is even writing her own novel now. She is doing pretty good at it to. Books have been my path to freedom, to explore, learn and imagine. I am so glad to pass that love onto my children. btw I rotate books out of the garage twice a year. Sometimes I even loan out to friends. I normally have what ever they are wanting to read. lol [avonrep1]
Right on, shall do. She is getting a kick out of people wanting to read her work. My godmother also wants a signed copy. Books are wonderful, growing up I wanted to work in a library one day. I became a librian's aid in highschool. Got a cool certificate for it too. I love the smell of books. [avonrep1]

I keep my books as a young child I wanted a room with a library, never had the complete library wall but I do have lots and lots of books. [winterose]

I sell old or pre-owned books in ebay.com , I was surprised that there's people buying those books maybe because new ones are expensive, although I sell it in very cheap price. [angel08]

After I had married, the books that I love of course will marry as well lol to my new home . There was no suitable place to keep my books so I purposely asked one of my friends who owns a home furniture store to design a cupboard for me to keep them. The big cupboard, with glass sliders could load hundreds of books. There are so many books which I have read and reread and all of them are my favorite and precious properties. Two of them are my most favorite, Sherlock Holmes - The Long Stories, A Story a Day which contains 365 tales for children. I read the latter to my son when he was three during bedtime. I hope I could read the story to my grand children if I were to have any in time to come. I will tidy and rearrange all of them once in a while, as I afraid that the disgusting bookworm will damage my beloved books. Normally I will not keep any old magazines unless there is some valuable information in them. I usually send these old magazines to a nearby charity organization. [lkbooi]

I trade them for other books on paperbackswap.com, if you join please say that youngam86 sent you :) [youngam86]
Thank you very much for sharing the site my friend. I will consider that... [dolce_vita78]

I am a collector... so anything I buy becomes a collector item. I have a large bookcase with all my hard cover books. All my soft cover novels are in boxes. [Aussies2007]

I had a shelves too. I love collecting different kinds of books for future refences specially I have kids that are still in their school time. And sometimes it is veru useful for them and to others who want to borrowed it. [lynboobsy11]

We don't have one set thing that we do with the books we have already read, some we share with others, some we have sold on ebay, half.com, or amazon, some we throw away, some we trade at a used book store, and some sit on the shelves. [kellys3ps]

I just keep them as it is in my book selves. i can't part away with my books.it will be hard for me. I really love books and have already invested a lot in buying the books. So i just can't ive away those after reading. [subha12]
I completely understand how sentimental you are towards your books. I feel the same way most of the time. [dolce_vita78]

i give my books away to those that i think will read them. i sell some in garage sales. but the ones i really like, they are on a book shelf in the office. [pukaprat]

I think I will keep it,maybe sometimes later I will read it again..... [jnrain]

i love reading, and i've accumulated quite a number of books since i started my interest in them. i have a shelf of books at home and it was such a waste when most was destroyed because of a storm. right now, i sell some of my used books after re-reading them. its also a good way to earn extra especially if you really are in dire need of money. [kuting]

I keep them and i even have a small library in my house. I like to collect books and cover them. I gave some books to my cousins, but for my "precious" collection, i will never give it to anyone! [manya_pearl]

I cannot throw away or give away any book I have bought. We have lots of books at home and it is all sorted according to categories and kept neatly. My son and I read a lot and we know that we might read them again. I don't have any books in boxes...they are all arranged neatly on shelves. [SViswan]

I also love reading and also have a lot of books. Mostly I buy them, and some of them are present. but sometimes I have financial problems because of spending so much money on books, so I change them with my friends. While keeping them in our shelves, they will be old and they will be bored there, as doing nothin and not to be read. I can say you should give them others who havenot read, also you can ask them if they have any you havenot read. so you will have enough place for your best books only... [acridrobinn23]

I used to buy lot of books such as novles, maggzinesand so on.I'd like to read, also I love them afterI have read them. Many of them are put in boxes, for there is no enough room for shelves in my homtown. But now in my office I put them in shelf alough it is no bigger enough. After work I always read them again, not scan, but read in every word. [Wallpaper1203]

I always keep any books by Stephen King or Dean Koontz as i usually buy these new. All my bookcases are full so i now have boxes of books in my bedroom. I also buy books second hand from my local charity shop or car boot sales. These books i either give back to the charity shop after i have read them or will sell them on at a car boot sale. [littleone3]

Hard covers and favorites I keep. All other paperbacks, once read, I trade them in at a used book store this way I can always get something I haven't read without paying very much for them. [whiteheather39]

Usually I borrow books from libraries. I cherish the book I bought and put them on shelves after finishing reading. Some days later I will take them out and read again. Every time I read the books, I can get some new ideas. Books are my best friends for ever. [yannycui]

The books that I have now has been passed on for generations and some of them are really old editions and they are hardbound books and not paper back. Some of them are luxury bound books with leather binding and gold colour printing, particularly those of Readers Digest condensed books. Some of the encyclopedias, theme books like Birds, Animals, Reptiles, Galaxy etc. Those information can never change though there could be some new information. so I have made special shelves in which the books are preserved. I love my possession and both my wife and my son are voracious readers and they do use the library. [ssh123]

I normally keep the books with myself. If I feel like reading a book again, I go through it. I feel there are some really good books, which can be read again and again (after a gap of time). If I have read a book several times, then I pass it on to my friends for their reading. It is a good idea to donate the same to library, so that others could also enjoy those books. [dpk262006]

Some are on shelves, some have been sold in garage sales, and some I donated. So there are a variety of things that I've done with mine. Take care [writersedge]

They are waiting patiently in my book shelf to be asked to be borrowed and not to be returned by my very decent friends.Nearly 75% of the books are in the book shelves of my friends.Well any way they are meant to be read .Aren't they? [balasri]

If Im done with the books.. I always ask my family members if they are interested with the books because if not I always bring them to the national library.. for the others make use of the books that Ive read. [ayou82]

we have shelves for our books at home too. that's where i usually keep my books. if i happen to not like a book, say for example the storyline isn't that good- i'd give it away to my cousin or charity hehe... [kevsgirlalways]

I try to past them along to my friends that I know will enjoy reading them, and the ones that I don't I take and donate to the library. I do have some that I keep on the shelf. They are my favorites. I check the shelves at the library for what they are selling in used books and find that they sometimes have very interesting books on all kinds of subjects for very little cost. [bdugas]

I use to have over 5000 books, Till I had to leave the abusive S.O.B. then I lost everything I had accumilated in 24 years. All my friends came & got whatever they wanted I gave it all away & moved to calif. BUT I keep my books I'm starting over now...I LOVE books...Lori [dumblnddzzy]
Over five thousand books? Wow! You must really felt bad when you had to give it all away... [dolce_vita78]

It depends on the book. If I think I will read it again or that I want to have it around for reference, I keep it on a shelf. Otherwise I give them away. If I know someone who would like to read the book, I'll give it to them, but most of the time I donate them to Goodwill. [spectrum42]

I buy alot of my books but do get books from the library also ... i have books on shelves but am slowly running out of space and books are stacked on my bedroom floor also i have boxes of books in the attic. I really need to sort them out and take them to a charity shop but i dont like parting with things lol :) [kissableroo]

just give them away or keep them if i really want them. usually, i don't have this problem since I get most of the books from the local library [thatcrazyqbanita]

Before kids, I would save all my new books but it was getting out hand. LOL. So I have stopped buying new books, unless it is a paperback that I really must read ASAP. I usually trade between friends or visit the library. When we are done with books I usually trade them on paperbackswap.com, donate them to the local thrift store, or the libraries book sale. My girls books, once they have been outgrown we donate to their school. At our school each teacher has a library, I have helped several new teachers build their classroom libraries this way. [kimbers867]

That's a very good question, dolce. I have long since filled all of my shelves with books -and every available surface as well, lol. I have some stored in boxes in my pantry. I really must start getting rid of some of those books. I am going to take a day and go through them and catalog them, keeping the ones I really want. I have invested so much money in the books that it would be nice if I could sell them. I used to give them away, but nobody reads anymore(among my friends and family), and I used to give them to people in Freecycle. [worldwise1]

with the books i have read.If it is my study books.i keep them very safe to show everybody what book i studied.if i purchase a book and i do not like it.then i try to sell it.if i can't do that i give it to a friend who is interested in that subject. Most of my college and school books i sell it in a book market for a price. [vicky30]

I buy some books,There is 5 friends and I we buy 1 book a month and we trade them and then it goes to Susan who has a gaint library in her home, She seperates them for the ones we really like and the okay, Then in Dec. we have a get together and make a donation to the public library. [havfaith]

I like to buy my books, though if I am doing research I borrow them from the library. If it was a book I enjoyed I keep it. I shove a lot of my books but because I have more books then I have shelving for I have most of them still in boxes and rotate them periodically. Periodically, I go through my books and see what I have and get rid of anything I know I will never read again. These I take to the local Senior Citizens Center, rest homes (which usually only take a limited amount of books at a time), the homeless shelter and the battered women's shelter. At the Senior Centers and rest homes they usually keep a lending library there for the residents. The shelters will sell them so that they can afford to feed and take care of more people. Buy food, extra blankets etc. In the Battered Women's shelter they use it for the children the women bring with them because these women usually leave with just the clothes on their backs. So clothing, school supplies, food etc is paid for by donations. I am sure there are other places such as Salvation Army etc that will take them but I choose the ones above because they are less likely the amounts of money they need as they are usually not faith-based. [sageivyberyl]

I keep all my books on my bookshelves, and on the top shelf of my closet. I do not give them away, because well it costs quite a bit to get them and they are classics, and I will be reading them later. I really should get more bookshelves and there are those books that I really love and will be reading them again. I hardly buy any books unless they are for Bible Study or unless they are classics. I tend to go where I love a particular author and try to get most of his or her books, but right now my favorite author died a long time ago and I got all her books. [suspenseful]

When I finished reading books some of my favorite I keep it with me in my owned library in the house and the rest i even give it as a gift to a friend..... [cherylal]

Hi dolce_vita, I borrow a lot of books from the public library, and usually only buy those that I want to keep. I have several bookshelves, I know some people who buy a lot of books and later donate them to the public library. Others give them to seniors homes. Sometimes hospitals like to get them as well. Blessings. [Pose123]

hi dolce vita:). I don't buy books, but I receive them as a gifts. I sell them on internet auctions;). I read them first, of course. But after that I know I won't read them again, so I sell them. People can buy them for lower price than in the bookstore. And I have a little profit, which I put on my savibg account:). Everyone is happy this way. have a nice day, jazgottt. [jazgottt]

Every room in this house save the kitchen and bathrooms have floor to ceiling book shelves on most if not every wall. The "library" which for most would be a den, not only has all the walls lined with book, but book cases back to back in the middle of the room. We still give away a great many books, sometimes to the library, sometimes to family members or friends who we know will enjoy a book, sometimes the nursing homes. The entryway also has floor to ceiling books on shelves on one side.. it would have been both but you have to be able to walk somewhere. We also get books from the library to read, and to see if we want to own a copy of a given book. Some years ago my brother brought a girl friend home to meet the folks, and she walked in and said "wow, someone here is a book freak" needless to say that one did not last long. It can never be said in this house "I have nothing to read". [silvatungfox]

It depends..if it is a wonderful book, I keep it because maybe I will want to read it again. Sometimes I give it to a friend or relative. But often I either donate to a rummage sale, library, or other kind of charity. I put some up on eBay or I just put some down in the basement of my building so someone can pick it up if they want it. I used to have 2 whole bookcases full of books, but I got rid of one to make room. And I have learned that books collect dust and mold and I have Respiratory problems so I try not to keep too many around. [fec139]

It used to be that I would not buy books and only borrowed from the library. Then I would make sure that I would check out all the books at the second hand stores and garage and yard sales that I went to and I would buy quite a few there and kept them on shelves in the house. Some were in my room and others were on shelves in the living room. Then I decided it was time to get rid of most of them as I had too many so I asked my sisters and daughters if they wanted any of them and they went through them and got the ones that they wanted and rest are sitting in boxes in my laundry room waiting for me to take them to the Goodwill or Savers so they can be sold to someone else. I still have some that I want to keep and others that I have not read yet........probably about 75 that I have not read, some new and some used. When I have read them, some of them will go on the shelf and others I will loan to my daughter or friends and I will tell them that I don't want them back. I do not keep books at the house in boxes except those that I am getting rid of. [idowrite72]

That's a good question. I can't bear to part with them. You never know when you need to refer to them again...and i gave myself many reasons why i should keep them, ending up with a room full of books and super narrow walking spaces. [Britelite]

I am a second hand book collector. I colect twelve authors. Six males and six females, not to discrimiminate. I have more than one thousand books. They are neatly stacked in bookshelves. One shelf is being filled quite quickly with DVDS. I was an avid collector, now I have slowed down quite considerably. [CAMILLERI]

After I am done reading books that I have bought I save them up in a big lot and then list them on ebay and hope they will sell. If they dont I stick them in my yard sale and hope they will sell for .10 each there. If not then I just give them away. [shaggin]

I lend out a lot of my books to my friends. The others I show off as trophies; what better way to let everyone know you're smarter than them than by showing off yer books. [Haydogsup]

It depends on the book. If it's something that I plan to read again in the future, I keep it, and put it on one of the floor to ceiling bookshelves that I have. Others that are in good condition, but don't plan to read I either resell on ebay, or give away via bookcrossing. [kriszelunka]

I like reading books. I usually keep on-shelf the books that I are used more often. I still keep on the shelf those books that I have read already. I lend a few of the books I have read to my friends. I still keep those which I have read already for future reference. I really like sharing the things I read on books so I keep them. Also, many of my books are of reference type books so I really have to keep them. Another reason I keep the books I have read already is because I want to read them again. Having read a book doesn't mean that you remember all of the things written on it. [wrangel15]

i seldom buy books. i buy books that i really love and usually, i keep it. i store them somewhere safe. ^__^ sometimes i lend them to friends but only to those who know how to return what they've borrowed. i haven't given any books yet but i have this one book (which i bought another copy accidentally) which i am thinking of giving away but i just don't know yet to whom i will give it to. ^__^ [secretbear]

i keep those that i think will still be read by my kids. then i gave to the local parish library those that i dont intend to keep/read anymore. but now i plan to sell some of my books [mameejhy]

if i like it then i force someone else to read it.. if i don't then i don't usually get to finish it.. [posham]

As a real bookworm I have a big bookshelf for my books. But its full already. I buy most of my books now second hand as they are cheaper this way. When I have read a book now I decide whether to sell it as used or to keep it. When I think I will sure read it a second time in a few years I will definitely keep the book. [book1962]

I only buy books that are of interest to me, and that I know I will read again. I am re-reading one of my favourites rigt now, as a matter of fact. I reading my favourite books again and again and again. Once I buy a book, it's mine for life. [danishcanadian]

I usually keep my books for a while and then give them to the library or throw them out. Sometimes, though, I can sell them on Amazon.com and get some money back for them. If I am keeping them, then they are on a bookshelf. [desertdarlene]

Hi. After I have read a book I give it either to my mother or my sister. They both love to read as well. When they are finished with their book, they pass it along to me. My neighbor sent over a box of books for me before Xmas that I am working my way through. I still go to the library though...because the selection there is unbelievable!!! I have to control myself. lol Nadine [Nadinest]
That is the advantage of having common interests with the members of the family... [dolce_vita78]

I used to give the books to friends to read and pass on. Now I have joined a Large Prink Book club and i keep all of the books. I put them on a special shelf. I find good books at the thrift store. I am starting a collection of hard bound books now. I have about a whole new set of the Jean M auel books that i am thinking of selling on ebay there are a couple that are new. I have the hard cover books of the same. so do not need two sets. [snowwhite57]

I'm more likely to borrow from the library nowadays, but I still buy a few books now and again. I keep most of my books in an old bookshelf I've had since I was a kid. Others (specifically new ones that I'm reading or recently read) are on my bed stand. Sometimes I like to buy from the book sale, read them then either sell them at a garage sale and/or donate them back to the book sale. I do keep some books, but some I just just want to read once and if I really like it, only then will I keep it. [goodnightmoon]
Garage sales can be good, but the reading material is greatly limited. Plus, they rarely have it organized. That's why I prefer book sales, they are organized by the library and volunteers (I've done volunteer work there before). There are 1000s of books at really great prices! Plus all the money goes to the library, so it's a good cause. That sucks about your friend moving away! sad I assume it's more than just because of their good library? lol [goodnightmoon]

I belong to a book swapping website and I post my books on there, when someone requests one I mail it out and get a credit for another book. I've reduced my book number greatly but I love the site and love getting new books to read. [enchantedleppard]

When I was younger, I kept every book I read. Not so anymore. I keep books I think I might reread, but the majority I give away, trade online for other books, or sell online. I still have a decent size collection. I rarely go into bookstores anymore, I get most of my books from swapping with other people! It's saved me a ton of money! [Myrilia]
Swapping books with other people is really a great idea because this could help us save money. [dolce_vita78]

If I find some of them are really junk and I don't want them to sit on my bookshelf, then, I would either give it to someone and throw it into the trash bin. But many of the books that I have read, I would keep them in my bookshelf and will re-read them once in awhile. [wondericequeen]

I visit the library often and that is where I get most of my books. In the summer, I will stop at yard sales and if there are some books that look good, i'll pick them up. Once I read them, I don't see the point in saving them so I pass them on by giving them to friends or donating them to a 2nd hand shop. I have one small book shelf for books that I haven't read and reference type books. I don't like re-reading a book when I already know the ending. [sid556]

it is very kind of those who donate the book to the public library.they can share reading with others.if i read a book which i love ,i often introduce it to my friend and lend to him if he want . i have not my own book shelves ,because i can't offord. if i have much money ,i wil keep many books and lend it to the person who want to read. [stonesir999]

If I really like the book I just have been readin,I save it in my shelves. And very often I read it again after some time [Kahawa]

I have hundreds of books in the attic which i keep mweaning to sort out, but never get round to, i keep saying that i will ebay them but it just seems like such a hassle . [pumpkinzz]
I know what you mean, i am going to start sorting them out, and see which ones i,m able to sell. [pumpkinzz]
