What Spices Do You Like To Cook With

I love garlic! I put it on anything I can. Once when camping with friends I ate loads of garlic and didn't get bit by a single bug. I also like cooking with lemon juice and pepper when making chicken for others. I also like oregano, basil, paprika, and curry.

I use quite a bit of garlic and oregano in cooking. I also use bay leaves in soups and roasts. I cannot make stuffing without sage and I cannot make onion soup without marjorum. Paprika does not have much flavor but it sure makes my devilled eggs look pretty. The one spice I use the most of is cinnamon. I keep a sealed container full of sugar and cinnamon for sprinkling on toast, baked goods and desserts. [loved1]
I don't eat meat... but I did have some yummy cucumber tea sandwhiches with dill at a wedding show once. My grandma used to make pickles so that's why she grew it... and why I associate the smell with her. [Withoutwings]

garlic goes on anything we cook. ur right that some spices depends on the meat or vegetable of choice. chicken be great with lemon & pepper , curry too. oregano & basil for pasta or italian style of cooking. [angel_marie5]

Garlic, salt, pepper and onion powder are my main ones. I use those in so many things. You are right about the garlic keeping the bug bites down. I know we give the dog garlic and she doesn't seem to have a problem with flees as do the cats. I wonder what the science is behind that. [sunshinecup]
I'll have to tell my brother to try that... he has three cats. [Withoutwings]

I will have to remember to eat a ton of garlic next time we are camping! But won't that keep the humans away as well? I love a variety of herbs and spices when cooking. I use more flavorings in my cooking rather than using butter. [ElusiveButterfly]
Lol - loud and clear. [Withoutwings]

i eat all spices in moderation mixed with our foods of course [vanities]

I cook with garlic and onion. I also use Goya adobo with cumin and some of Mrs. Dash's mixed spice products. I have to be careful with the Mrs. Dash products though, a lot of them contain orange peel and I am highly allergic to oranges. [Angrykitty]

I love to cookint with spices.. I like pepper, oregano and curry! [bludolphin80]

Like you, I LOVE garlic, especially freshly minced. Fresh herbs are always better than dried so I use them whenever possible. I'm also a big fan of hot, spicy food and my favorite hot sauce is called "Dave's Insanity Sauce." [DoubleB66]
So true. I prefer fresh herbs as well. Have you ever tried a hot sauce called "Endorphin Rush?" Bad stuff. [Withoutwings]

Always garlic on everything. LOL I also use basil, thyme, oregano, rosemary, marjarom and cloves quite a bit. [zukepr]

I love garlic too. Also onions, basil, dill, and italian parsley. These are my staples of fresh ingredients I keep on hand. [bluej20]

BLACK CUMIN SEEDS in FRIED OKRA. It tastes really yummy! Here Is Recipe! Heat mustard oil in a skillet. Add black cumin seeds then Okra and stirring gently, then add salt, red chilly powder then tomatoes and stirring gently, continue frying until the okra is cooked, about 10-12 minutes. [ali_the_raptor]

I tend to use garlic alot. I also use season salt, pepper, lemon pepper, oregano, and grill seasoning [wvchell78]
This is the same dish I make my husband. He loves it. I have tried it and it is good but not my favorite. [wvchell78]

I love to cook with garlic, pepper, lemon juice aswel paprika and curry are awsome to cook with. I also love to use lots of indian spices too. [parthasarathi]

I also LOVE garlic! Apart from that I love cooking with fresh ginger and cardamon Seeds - I first put the cardamon seeds in a little bit of very hot water to soak then squash them to release the flavour, then pour that into the cooking. Also I like cumin, and garam masala. I like lots of herb too, but for more 'spicy' dishes I would mainly use fresh coriander leaves or mint leaves. [fluffleshark]

As a kid, my mom did not really put spices on meats or anything really. I have found out that she pretty much hates any kind of flavoring. Uggghhh!! But, now that I am living on my own with my own family, we use lots of spices. Steaks get garlic powder, onion salt, salt, pepper, paprika, and celery seed. Soooooo good! Now that I have rambled too much.... My favorite spice is definitely garlic! [Eborsisk]

I use mainly onions when im cooking. I just really like the smell when you saute it and the flavor it gives to the food is really very tasty as well. [wynna1]
There really is endless possibilities in using onion as a spice. There are just so many creative ways to use it. You can make the flavor nearly invisible, medium, or strong depending on how you do it and flavor preferences. [kjscrafts]

I like to cooke with tarragon and basil. [phantsy]

My favorite spice is lemon and herb spice. I love to use it on all kinds of things including pasta, tofu, and popcorn. I also like using garlic and fresh mint herbs that I grow in my garden. [kjscrafts]

Oregano,Cumin,Coriander, lemon zest, pepper. If i'm feeling lazy then something like Mrs. dash works just fine, cause it already tastes good, lol. [pendragon]

Oh don't get me started on cooking...I love to cook. I have got so many spices I could start a spice shop! I love Indian spices: turmeric, coriander, cumin - they're called the Holy Trinity of Spices! I also love garlic like you (keeps the vampires away, we get a lot of them round here), I also grow a lot of my own herbs for culinary use and their medicinal properties. Star Anise is good and I absolutely love Aniseed in bread. [feralwoman]

in every food that i cook i always use garlic and salt but i love to cook with a lot chilly and pepper when i making fried chicken, and vegetables too [binong]

i use ginger garlic paste and gram masala in my cooking. [johar_deepti]

Yes GARLIC is #1. I also use a lot of fresh ground black pepper. I think i The history of the spice trade is fascinating. Two good books on the subject are The Scents of Eden: A History of the Spice Trade by Charles Corn and Nathaniel's Nutmeg by Giles Milton. Spike is a spice blend that I rely on heavily. It has a lot of celery seed in it. I also like Old Bay seafood seasoning. And I use a lot of ground chipotle chili powder. It has a great smokey flavor and aroma. If you find paprika to be bland try smoked paprika and make sure your paprika is fresh. [viognier]
Thanks - I will check out those books. They sound interesting. [Withoutwings]

I love to use garlic and onions. I love fresh herbs too like Rosemary, Dill, Chives. I'd regularly use ginger, nutmeg, paprika, cumin and lots more. I think I've about 40 jars of herbs and spices on my counter top. I love chicken breasts stuffed with ham, parmesan, garlic and rosemary. I made that for dinner this evening. [BittyBiddy]

I'm a huge garlic and oregano fan. In fact, I used both tonight in dinner! [anna_from_indiana]

I enjoy hot and sweet spice combinations using cayenne, cinnamon, nutmeg, curry, coriander, etc. [Metallion]

l love paprika, but l love cook clear sop [cenko0]

for me its garlic, ginger and chilie these three make up the basis of most meals eat [ESKARENA1]
Sounds perfect to me. [Withoutwings]

Well I love to cook and I love to add spices. I do not cook with salt though. I figure people can add their own salt to things if they want. I love to add paparika, parsley, garlic, onion powder. Depending on what I'm making I will also add in lemon pepper or cloves. Both can really add things. Bay Seasoning is also good for fish, chicken or pork. Now if I'm baking I will add cinammon to things. That can really taste great like in French Toast. Vanilla as well I usually add in more then the recipe calls for because I find it helps with the flavor. [emeraldisle]
I'm with you - I don't add salt. IF something needs salt I add it afterwards on my own plate. Too much salt isn't good for yuo. [Withoutwings]

same here! I always have to pour garlic on something! Baked potatoes, steak, chicken, pasta, porkchop...i could go on! Its soo flavory! [thekiwi]

gahhhhlic! I like a lot of basil in Italian dishes, and I use a lot of Emeril's cajun seasoning. But we really use a pretty obscene amount of garlic in my household. I also like dill, especially in chicken salad or roasted potatoes. [cajundharma]
I am told garlic helps with chloresterol [msqtech]

In most of food that i make, garlic is often to use. Beside that we use also paper, salt, paprika etc. [Rasnie]

cayan, chilli powder, tobasco, garlic, pepper, lemon, cumin, cardemom, saffron.... [sirensanssmile]

Gotta have garlic around. I use it more than anything else. I also use a lot of basil, oregano, tarragon, parsley, dill and onion. I love to use pepper and lemon on my pork roast, along with a little garlic. [claudia413]

I like to cook with fresh garlic, red pepper, cinnimon, alspice, curry, oregano, cajun, nutmeg, onion [drmt57]

Garlic is healthy and can be used in most dishes I think it is my favorite condiment [msqtech]

I too enjoy cooking with garlic. I also often times use seasoned salt, basil, and Mrs. Dash-any of the flavors! Mrs. Dash is salt free and gives great tase for vegetables, meats, and potatoes. [princess07031980]

i love using garlic, fresh black pepper, red pepper flakes, parsley, basil and oregano. i also use a spice called Vegeta which can make vegtable stock, but i use it with fish [ma_belle]

mmm Garlic of course and onion if you count that but I have to be careful because DH is allergic. I adore nutmeg, it's my favourite and goies in almost anything. Tarragon is great in salads and on poultry. We grow Tarragon, Basil, Fennel, Dill and some others in our garden and they are so yummy fresh. Dill is a big one with me so good on fish, White Pepper is great anywhere you use Black and is invisible which is nice if you cook for kids who think they don't like pepper. When I'm baking one of my "things" is to throw in spices that mimic the flavour of chai. Cloves, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Cardamon. mmmmmm. :) [glowsinthedark]
We grow some fresh herbs too. I love things fresh. What does DH stand for? I've seen it used in a lot of discussions with Lush people. [Withoutwings]

I use many spices in cooking. I love garlic! and so does the rest of the family so that is in almost everything I cook. I also use, paprika, basil, oregano, thyme, rosemary, dill, parsely, sage and a few others like salt & pepper. I love experimenting. [bunnylady01]

I like to put garlic, onion, tomatoes, [julialaurene0206]

I use a lot of garlic salt and an italian herb blend. Sometimes I use cumin and curry. [brimia]

it depends on what i'm cooking. i love garlic, too. but mostly, i go with pepper. makes me sneeze (lol), but i read it can help trim you down, too. [toonatoons]

I cook mainly Chinese dishes and 2 spices normally used in all dishes are garlic and ginger.I normally saute ginger in hot oil first before adding in the garlic as the latter tends to get burnt easily and then the dish will have a bitter taste. [wdiong]
Sounds delicious. [Withoutwings]

i love turmeric n 2ndly ginger...i use em in all o my cookings...turmeric is best n a natural healer too [chocklitchip]

I put Spike (a mixed seasoning blend with just about every herb you can think of) in just about everything. It is a little salty, a little garlicy, and nicely herbaly. It gives things that extra something. [shiningfae]

Garlic is a big one for me too. I grow my own herbs and spices and usually have basil, oregano, rosemary, thyme on hand fresh to cook with. [imsilver]

I use a lot of garlic when I'm cooking as well. In addition, I also ulse a lot of Italian seasoning and cayenne pepper. And basil and rosemary as well. [micamaldita]
I love Rosemary and olive oil on bread. [Withoutwings]

garlic in EVERYTHING. Seriously. Garlic is my drug ;) Lately i've been getting heavily into indian and moroccan flavours though. Lots of cardamom, cinnamon, coriander ... yum. [JJLoa44]
Me too. I love Indian, Moroccan and Thai foods the most. [Withoutwings]

I really like Tony Chachere's Creole seasoning. It makes any food taste spicy and just plain yummy. I put it on steak, chicken, fries..etc. [southernpixie]

I do enjoy garlic on everything. The other ones I use on all my meats are tocassco sauce, worchestshire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, and sea salt. I use butter, garlic and sea salt on all my veggies. I don't like the taste of black pepper and it burns my mouth, but I can eat jalepenos, pepper sause, tobassco and even cayenne pepper and it doesn't bother me like black pepper, weird eh? [wmg2006]

I love hot spice. So, I will use crushed red peppers, or peanut curry. [margieanneart]

for me its ginger, garlic, corriander, cumin. I find these allow me a good base sourse and one i can experiment with by altering proportions and adding chilie or anything else really, blessed be [ESKARENA1]

i love to put Asofoetida, cinnamon, garlic, paprika. these are the things that i love to use while cooking. [aweins]

I am a huge garlic lover too, along with my partner. However he puts me right off when he eats a clove of garlic raw! I love cooking with sweet peppers too, and with many different herbs. Some of my favorites are Parsley, Oregano and Thyme. I also use an Italian herb mix from time to time too. I find that spices and herbs are so versatile. You can use them in mostly anything at all and be guaranteed that it will add a twist to a boring dish. [retardedrugrat]

I tend to keep it pretty simple; salt and pepper are my main staples. If a recipe calls for something else, I'm happy to oblige, but I find that good old S&P do more to bring out the flavor rather than change it. [sndcain]

Doyou know swallowing two garlic cloves on empty stomach early morning daily would keep you fit always. I like garlic but not as much as I like ginger. I can not cook without ginger. Its my basic ingredient, lol. You can call em ginger freak. I even have it in my tea all year around. [mansha]

i love garlic too..i put it in everything LOL i use garlic, onion, basil, oregano,a bit of hot sauce, pepper and tarragon the most. a little tarragon mixed with lemon and mayo on chicken or turkey is just awesome. [scarlet_woman]
