When I want to take my book and escape for a while, I like to go up the street to the Second Cup Cafe. There are Second Cups all over Canada. The one in Guelph is just up the street (a straight shot!) from my apartment, about a mile away. My street is a very long street, so you can go a good 5 miles, and still be on the same street. Today I sat outside on the patio, yesterday I sat inside in a nice soft easy chair.
Where do you like to go when you want a nice quiet place to read?

I can picture myself going to our newly remodeled library and reading, either at a cozy small table or in the furniture in front of the stained glass windows or even in the newspaper area. I can picture it, but do not seem to do it. [GardenGerty]
My favorite place is on my comfy chair on my balcony. I like to be lounging outside when I read. Ideally, I'd like to be reading on the beach. If I can't be outside, I like to sit on my bed, propped with a bunch of pillows and have my cats snuggling with me. [KATRINKA]
I am not much of a reader at all. I have a hard time remembering what I have read and I need peace and quiet also. I think if I wanted to read something, I would go out on my deck swing and read or lay in my bed. [stephcjh]
I wish I had a place like that, I generally have to sit at my desk or crawl into bed to read - and then I have to fight off the cats. [ElicBxn]
We also have lot of shops like that here. But i prefer sitting in my house and read books.Well i cannot go to library and sit there...with my kids running here and there.I prefer sitting in the house because of that reason.Otherwise i will sit in a library and read a whole lot of books. [kalaga]
It seems lately the only place that I read is sitting on the toilet! That is the truth, too. I just don't seem to read like I used to and I was one who carried a book with me everywhere I went but now I seldom read books at all. I get People magazine and it seems that is all the reading that I ever get done except for my email, and even that isn't up to date. I can't imagine where all that time went to. I do spend time with my grandchildren, but that isn't everyday, so I really am not sure where all my reading time went and I think the books that are waiting for are wondering why they are on the self gathering dust, since I do have quite a few there waiting! BUT........when I do read I can read anywhere.....in bed, on the couch and sitting at the kitchen table are a few. I also sometimes read outside when I have the grandkids out there playing, when I don't have to be chasing them somewhere. [idowrite72]
I love to read in a favorite chair in either the living room or the bedroom. In both of these areas is a nice window to look out of at the woods and nature. I have a really cuddly mixed Russian Blue cat that loves to curl up on my lap and just hang out with me. Once she settles into my lap and I have my water bottle, I am all set for a good long read. When I want to read in peace and quiet, I just go into my bedroom and shut the door. I can only do this when my husband is home though or the kids will constantly bother me by knocking on the door. If he is not home, I will sit in the couch and then, the kids do tend to let me read. I don't think I would be comfortable reading any other place than in the comfort of my own home. [lynnemg]
For me I like to either read in my bedroom or my easy chair or recliner. That way I can put up my feet or be relaxed while I am reading. That usally puts my mind at ease and helps me to get read to go to sleep. [Shaun72]
Actually, I don't have a designated reading spot. For me books are tools to relieve the boredom of waiting rooms or waiting for my daughter at times while she is shopping and trying on clothes. I read before going to bed sometimes and I read when I'm at the beach. I pretty much always have a good book going and I just carry it wherever I go...just in case. happy [sid556]
I love reading in bed because I can place a couple of pillows behind my head in order to feel comfortable.happyhappyhappy [diamondrose1]
hide in the bedroom, and sit in bed, with the book on a pillow, that's the best way to enjoy reading for me. Love those paperback thrillers, easy to read, and not much thinking involved. The best thing is that after the reading, I can write a short book review immediately, share with others, and to make some money out of the reading as well. [scheng1]
hi danishcanadian, usually when I want to read for a few hours I curl up in my bed thats the nicest place. I dont like reading while sitting its not as comfortable. Okay this old bookworm here then risks falling asleep in bed with book in hand but if I do then I really needed that extra zzzzzz...... lol have a great Sunday hope you can enjoy your fav radio program later [book1962]
I just stay in my room and read while sitting or lying on my bed. If I want drinks, I can make myself a cup of coffee. If I want music, I can play songs on my computer. I have everything I need in my room (including my books, since that's where I keep them.) =3 [inedible]
Lucky that at your place cafes are quite enough that you can study there peacefully. Here in India they are very noisy. But if I had to read a book in silence I just go back to my room, close the door and read it there laying on my bed.No one disturbs me there. Its quite cool and cozy in my room which makes he reading even more comforting. [Shames]
The only place that I enjoyed spending my time reading a good book for a few hours was when I stayed at Antulang Beach Resort (wesbite is: www.antulang.com). Other than that, I never realized there was a time I took a book and escape for a while and really enjoyed the time while I was reading. I usually go there like at least twice or 3 times a year to unwind, relax and have a good book to read for hours. [archerzbaby]
hi there for me it is maybe the gardens under the tree when it's warm but in the colder days it would be in maybe the library / in bed hehehehe latas lamb101 xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo [lamb101]
i love reading under a tree, nut since we moved, there hasn't been a tree for 3 miles, only buildings.. now, i only use waht i have and that's my room. i still have the privacy and the comfot i need. i can turn on the ariconditioning unit or i can turn on my laptop to listen to relaxing sounds like nature or the orchestra while reading a book:) [orevro]
i like to go out into my garden if the weather is nice and sit in the shade under the oak tree, it's nice and cool in that part of my garden, it's peaceful and quiet. [tattylashes]
I usually just read in my room. Or at work. Or I used to read at school. Sometimes it is too loud since I read wearing headphones and need to be able to hear the words. But usually I can hear just fine anywhere. [Pigglies]
I used to love to curl up on a cozy chair and read until my eyes blurred. Now I have a 4 year old and a 3 month old and I don't seem to get to read anything besides childrens books. Anytime my children see me get comfortable that's their cue to start up. So these days if I want to read anything for myself I have to sneak in the bathroom and lock the door. How sad is that! [bellarisa1]
if the book is in the library, our library has come very comfy chairs to sit in. same goes for chapters. i love to sit and read there and they have a great selection of books! as for reading, i usually stay home and sit in my living room or rather, lay on the couch and read. [cher913]
I have five places I like to go. The first is my garden, where it is nice and peaceful and I have mixed aromas of various flowers scenting the air. I can read my book in peace, whilst studying nature and its ways. My second favourite place is in the cemetery of the local church. There's an oak tree with a remembrance bench beneath it. It's very quiet up there apart from the chime of the clock at fifteen minute intervals, and I just feel at peace there. The third, is just outside the cemetery hedging, on the cricket field... there is a cut part of a tree trunk lain on the grass, where I love to sit and read. If I don't take my book with me, then I'll just sit and contemplate life... it's that peaceful. The fourth, is the beach. I love to hear the gentle ripple of breaking waves on the sand whilst sitting in a deck chair reading. It's not always peaceful there, but if it gets too distracting, then I can get up and comb the beach for shells and special pebbles. The final place is the park, just up the road from me. There are willows up there and benches where one can sit for as long as they wish, watching the world go by. There are never many people there unless there's a football match being played, so that's another peaceful place, and lots of rabbits and squirrels inhabit the area. Just my cup of tea! Brightest Blessings, my friend. [Darkwing]
I usually go to Barnes and Nobles since there is a Starbucks inside and there is nothing better than reading and drinking coffee. [Mirita]
Wow your street is long! It wouldn't take you more than about 20 seconds to walk the entire length of mine! Well I tend to read on my bed when there is something I really want to read. I would love to sit in a coffee shop though or sit in a park one day and read. I also would like to be able to read at the beach. Sadly I am unable to read while I am travelling because it makes me feel sick, I guess I wish I could read then too. [pinklemonade]
My living room sitting on the recliner or laying down on the floor on top of a big pillow :) Don't get me wrong. I am an avid reader and will read anywhere, but the place where I feel more comfortable is in my living room. Veranda open and the sunlight coming trough:):):) [arkaf61]
When I want to read for a while, I head to the beach. This way my daughter can play in the sand and I can sit in the sun. I love just soaking up the sun while reading a great magazine. [sunshine4]
I usually go to the library. If that's not open I'll go to the park that's a few blocks away. [deathspectacular]
I tend to stay home when i want to read. Its quiet I'm alone and i can choose not to answer the phone. Sometimes i curl up in bed to read sometimes i sit out on the deck or lay in the hammock. I find trying to read when other people are around rather...frustrating as people tend to stop to chat or ask what im doing or reading and i just want to get lost in the book. [saundyl]
I usually do my reading inside my room. I can't seem to focus on reading whenever I do it on a coffee shop because I get to always look at the people passing by, I easily get distract. [angel_of_charm]

I like to read in a comfortable chair at my house but it is often tempting to fall asleep when I'm at home! I typically go to the local library or Barnes and Noble to read. If it is a nice day I'll head over to a park to read. I can read basically anywhere. Noise level and location usually don't matter to me. [cubbiefan28]
I just pick up a book, go to my room, sit on my bed and read there. I find if I go anywhere else I tend to get distracted. [sniff188]
I have an area in my livingroom that I like to sit in when I am reading. The lighting is good if I have the curtain open. I have a fireplace, it isn't showing in my picture but it is to the left. I enjoy sitting here because it is comfortable and I feel like I can get away from everything else when I sit in this area. I sometimes sit on the leather couch by the windows and sometimes I sit on the sofa chair you see on the bottom right of the picture. [chrislotz]
