I love to read Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys, but I do not have the courage to borrow the books from the library now. And I do not want to spend money buying the books to read. If given a chance, I would like to catch up on the reading of Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys. I still love to read mysteries, but those are classified under adult fictions, not books for teens. [scheng1]
i had quite a collection of them plus i got them from the library to. it was a happy time when i had a nancy drew to read. i could block out everything when i had a good book to read. thanks for your response have a happy sun. [ANTIQUELADY]
You should talk to my woman - she LOVES Nancy Drew books. She has a collection of them & she sells them online as well, haha!~lolAs for me, I was never a Nancy Drew fan. I was more into some other genre back thenwhistle [zweeb82]
Nancy Drew was my first mystery novel experience. I grew up with it along with sweet dreams and RL Stein. I'd love to read me some more nancy drews but I have as yet to build up my nancy drew collection as i used to just borrow them from the library when i was a kid. [amoyube1980]
I was a huge a Nancy Drew fan as well. I still have most of my books too! I am still a fan of mystery novels and even pick up an old Nancy Drew book to read every now and then. [Soteira]
good for you, i loved the books. haven't read one in years. can't read much of anything for mylotting, lol. i always have a book started. i love mystery in books & tv shows. have a good one. [ANTIQUELADY]
Hi...it's so good to meet another ND fan here....I love Nancy Drew stories....especially the yellow flashlight edition number 1 - 56. I have most of them but still looking for Mystery of The Fiery Dragon. When I started collecting them I collected the numbers randomly as some numbers were not available and I had to wait for new shipment to arrive at the bookstores. Now I have most of the yellow flashlight edition and I am re reading the series accordingly to the numbers. I just love the stories...it gives you the vintage feel and also the decriptive writign about the house, meal times...it's nice... However, I don't really like the new series...ummm don't know what's it called but it's crazily expensive and so thin compared to the vintage series. I have read the case files as well but not too many numbers. And don't really like them as well. As for Hardy boys, I have never read a single one of them...still prefer Nancy Drew. [eagle_f15]
I hope u get the whole set one of these days. I don't lnow anything about the flashlight thing, sorry. [ANTIQUELADY]
I did not get to go to the library as a child, but I had one or two Nancy Drew books that were someone's cast offs. I read them many times. I do love mystery. I love reading. I do not make the time for it I should, though. I own lots of books as well. [GardenGerty]
thanks for your response. going to the library when i was a child was one of my favorite things to do. i would walk to the library from our house. i have always loved to read, still do. mylotting has cut in on my reading time as i have said before. i'm never w/out a book started. have a great week, gerty. [ANTIQUELADY]
I like mostly nonfiction but if I read a novel my first choice is a mystery book. I am reading my second Lawrence Block novel right now. First I read Ticket to the Bone Yard and now I am reading Burglars Cann't be Choosers. [muscles4me]
got to have some romance in your life . since i don't have the real thing a good book helps. lol. [ANTIQUELADY]
Oooh!!! Nancy Drew! I miss reading Nancy Drew mysteries. I was just thinking about it last week. And I probably would buy more of her books when I get the chance. I just love reading them. Speaking of mysteries, I'm also going to start searching for Agatha Christie's mystery novels. Probably buy an e-book or something. [caffeinedrunk]
thanks for responding. i really loved her books. hope u find a bunch of them. i like christie o.k. but have other faves i like better. have a good week. [ANTIQUELADY]
My Mother when she was young loved to read nancy drew stories. So when I turned into a teen I wanted to read them as well. Those where very good books! [moneymommy]
they really were. if i had had a daughter i would have sure wanted her to read them. thanks for responding. [ANTIQUELADY]
When I was younger I read Nancy Drew mystery books, and I borrow them from my sister coz she really reads a lot. Now, my daughter is fond of reading books, I guess I would buy Nancy Drew books for her. [Nhey16]
hi nhey, i think that would be a great idea. i think they are great books for girls. have a good one. [ANTIQUELADY]
My mom grew up in the 50s and saved all her Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys and Bobbsey Twins books. I loved to read them . They are somewhat dated for todays kids but I know that they have updated many of the Nancey Drew books for girls today. There was also a wonderful Nancy Drew movie a couple of years ago starring Julia Roberts' niece. Nancy is a great role model in it! We even purchased the DVD. Have you seen it, jo? You should rent it! I think you would like it! [rocketj1]
hey lady, good to hear from you. that was a good time to grow up, believe me. i'm glad u saved the books. they are worth having. i bet if your daughter ever got into them she would be hooked like i was. i went w/a nancy drew book in my hands.no, i haven't seen the movie. i bet i would like it. thanks for telling me about it. hope things are well w/you & yours. jo [ANTIQUELADY]
I didn't ever have Nancy Drew, but I had Trixie Belden - and all the Secret Seven and Famous Five books. I still have my Famous Fives, and one day I'm going to read them all again - which would be a huge laugh, as I'm sure the style of writing would seem a bit outdated these days! I used to be amazed at how the Five's parents allowed them to go rambling all over the countryside by themselves - especially as they were always coming into contact with baddies, murderers and criminals - hahahaa! Those parents never learned! [guybrush]
i read trixie belden to. thanks for bringing her up, another good memory. if i remember correctly i never got as many of her books to read. guess the library didn't care as many or whatever. i really enjoyed hers to. i'm not famaliar w/the secret seven & famous five. i'm glad u held on to your books. i'd still have my nancy drew if my mother hadn't given them away againist my wishes. thanks guy! [ANTIQUELADY]
It is a long time since I have read any of her books. There was a time if ever I got my hands on any of her books I would not keep them aside till I finished reading till the last page. Even today I think if I get to read any of the mysteries I will not be able to keep the book aside. I will even forget mylot for the time being. [mayka123]
they would sure hold my interest. if i get off somewhere & read one of her books it was one of my happiest times. i still love mysteries till this day. books have always been so much fun for me. thanks for your response & have a great week, [ANTIQUELADY]
I actually still have them...I bought the books for my kids along with the classics so that they read them...right now I want to get rid of a bunch of my books as they have taken over one room....and my kids are worried they will go....but the only place they will go is to them. [jillhill]
that's great jill!!! my mother gave mine away & i wasn't too happy about it, still not. lol. thanks for your response. u have a good one. [ANTIQUELADY]
hahah you bring back old memories my friend. When I was in elementary I love reading hardy boys as well as Nancy Drew. though my sister is more into nancy than I am.I have the complete collection of hardy boys while my sister have a complete collection of nancy drew too. Well it was fun those days and now I hope those books on the Attic dont rot so my nephew could read them as well. [HelScream]
good, i love old memories especially the good ones. i read the hardy boys to. i have always like to read, still do. take care of those books, they are quite collectible. thanks for responding & have a great week. [ANTIQUELADY]
Hello ANTIQUELADY! When I was still in highschool, I really want to read some nancy drew books. I am sad to say that there's no enough series in the library. I only read two or three of them. I couldn't afford to buy one that time and besides, there aren't no bookstore in our hometown. Now, that I'm in the city and there are some nancy drew series there, it's not my priority already..hehehe.. [aisaellis22]
hi there. sorry u didn't get a chance to read them all when u were younger. they were all great books, i thought. i don't ever remember reading one i didn't like. thanks for your response. have a happy week. [ANTIQUELADY]
Wow! I hadn't thought about that in years! Yes, I used to go to the library on the weekends (or other school breaks) and load up 10 or so books to read. Among them was usually a few mysteries. I read all the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys mysteries. I also read a set of "The Bobsey Twins" mysteries. I no longer read mysteries, but still I am an avid reader! I do occasionally read a Grisham! [macdingolinger]
i would be the same way w/novels. one at the time is all i can handle for sure. [ANTIQUELADY]
I have read all of Nancy Drew books too. I also read the Hardy Boys too did you? They came out at the same time as Nancy Drew books. [anniefannie]
they were great books. i also read the hardy boys & liked them but none were better to me than nancy drew. thanks for responding, lady. [ANTIQUELADY]
Loved Nancy Drew mysteries. Loved them!! I had a thing about wanting to read everyone of them and I didn't want to put them down once I started. It did not make me into a huge mystery lover as it did you, but I do like a good mystery now and then. I saw a little girl at a park recently, curled up with a Nancy Drew mystery and it really brought back my childhood memories. [makingpots]
i loved them to. i would be right in the middle of something good when mother called us to eat. i would carry my book to the table but didn't get by w/that. i never did want to lay them down once i started one. thanks for your response. [ANTIQUELADY]
As a child, I read constantly. I read every book in the school library (all five shelves). Then, I started on the public library, but we moved before I could make much headway there. Somewhere in between all the other books, I read 3 series of books: 1st was The Bobsey Twins, 3rd and 4th because I believe that I read them at the same time, came Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys. Of course, my favorite was Nancy Drew because she could actually did exciting things. At that time, 60+ years ago, girls were taught to be quiet, demure, and respectful to everyone, especially the male of the species. If we rode in a car, a male always did the driving. We could work in the field, but they didn't do "woman's work". A woman fly a plane - ridiculous. We could be nurses but not doctors, teachers but not the superintendent, phone operators but not a lineman or the CEO. You get the picture. Nancy Drew was what the girls of my dreamed of being. [bellis716]
thanks for responding. i enjoyed your response. things have really changed since we read nancy drew for sure. she was our herorine for sure. have a good week. [ANTIQUELADY]
my parents bought a whole box of books, including nancy drew and hardy boys, from a friend of who held a garage sale. I loved those books and I read every one of them. I think its good how the book allows the mind to be analytical as we try to figure out the mystery ourselves as we read thru the book. I would like my boys to be interested in reading and in mystery books too. Maybe someday I will start my own collection of mystery books for them to read. [silverglint]
you have a good start with the books ur parents bought. the hardy boys would be great for your boys. i read all them to. don't know if boys would want to read nancy drew or not. i read to my boys every night. how old are yours? if they are old enough u could start a hardy boys now & read a little every night. that should give them something to look forward to at bedtime if they are old enough. happy reading & thanks for your response. [ANTIQUELADY]
she was my first heroine. however, the new series that mostly are distributed in paperback, are not as appealing anymore. i've moved on to robert ludlum books. [Ritchelle]
she was my first herorine to. i haven't read any of the series but know they wouldn't have the same affect on me now that they did when i was young. thanks for your response. have a happy day. [ANTIQUELADY]
My, my, my! So there's another thing we have in common! Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys sparked my interest in mystery books a long time ago and if you think i have already gotten over them then you're wrong! Would you believe that even at 46 i still go to those secondhand bookstores to look for ND books? I even borrowed one from my husband's young niece. Funny, a middle aged one like me borrowing from a child! Just infront of me now is one of the World's Greatest Word Game, Nancy Drew MAD LIBS! LoL! I'm just glad i am not alone! ^_^ [alexandra777]
SEE, I TOLD YOU.cool [ANTIQUELADY]
I think I read every one of the books that were available when I was a teenager. They were great. I also read some of the Hardy boys books but they just were not as good to me as Nancy Drew. I graduated to romance novels when I became an adult and there were times I would sit up til three and four o'clock reading because I hated to put the book down. I had cataract surgery when I was about 27 and have had bifocals since then so I don't do a lot of reading anymore because it aggravates my eyes. I do miss it sometimes but I really don't have a whole lot of time like I did then. I was a housewife and there seemed to be more hours in the day back then. God Bless! [change1life]
That is actually a good idea. I have always wanted to read the Bible all the way through and my husband got a CD set of it about two years ago and I listened to it, but I have not thought of looking for books and such on audio. Thanks for the suggestion! God Bless! [change1life]
I was a ND fan as a kid that I could never go anywhere without one of her books! lol My mom said that when she couldn't find me my nose was stuck in a book because I was always reading something and got so involved with the story that I became a part of it! I'm still very much a reader IF I find the time to! Mom had bought me a set of brand new ND books 1 - 18 but then when I turned 18 and living with my BF at the time, I ended up having to sell them to a used bookstore so we could buy groceries. Oh talking about a SAD day that was!! That was so hard! But it was either books or food.... oh that was hard!! [CatsandDogs]
well, bless your heart. that was terrible to have to sell your books but understand why u did. i have sold things years ago that i really regret selling but that's all water under the bridge now, huh? i loved nancy drew . she was my herorine growing up. i still like to read & i still love mysteries. thanks for your response. [ANTIQUELADY]
I too read the Nancy Drew Books. I love the mystery. I felt sad when in the case files there came a time when Ned and Nancy have a break up. But somehow the stories were really kewl. [anuraa32]
THANKS. THINK I'M BEHIND ON ANSWERING THIS.lol [ANTIQUELADY]
There seemed to be a wider collection of 'great reads' for yong peope back then. I adored Nancy Drew and so mnany other books. I too was and still am an avid reader and I give to to the Cancer Society to sell out here and then I purchase new ones from them.! I actually begin to feel anxious if I do not have a book to read in my house and will begin to phone friends in order to borrow a book to read. Did you used to read and reread the books? I did and so did my siters. We were all great readers in my family growing up. My children do not read as much as I do but they do read. Excellent post my friend [cynthiann]
i believe you are right. i could always find something to read, still can. i don't believe young people read like i did. of course there are alot of things to do now than there was when i was young. i have one son that reads some & one that never did care about reading as a past time. reading was my favorite thing to do. still was till i found mylot, smile. that has cut into my reading time. i never did like to re-read a book. thanks for your response as always. [ANTIQUELADY]
I read Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys, but once I discovered science fiction, well, I really never could get into them again. I still read some mysteries, but the SF is really my thing. [ElicBxn]
wimpy, huh?w00t [ANTIQUELADY]
I do! I do! I've been collecting the original hardcover ones for years. I must have over a hundred by now, lol. I love them. When I can't sleep at night, I pick up one I haven't read in awhile and I can finish it within about an hour, which is just enough to send me off to la la land. I learned to read by the time I was a little more than three, and by grade one was reading Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys, The Bobbsey Twins (spelling?). My twin brother was dyslexic and didn't learn to read properly for a long long time, so I'd read Nancy Drew and Tom Swift out loud to him. Wowza what memories you've brought back Lady. Thanks! [sparkofinsanity]
I'm sure by now u are misbehaving again. Haven't heard from u in awhile. Hope all is well w/u. [ANTIQUELADY]
i love nancy drew!!!! such a clever girl.....makes me feel proud that im a girl!!! i had fun reading this book.... [bhabytart]
she was like a good friend to me. if i had one of her books i didn't know anything else existed. w00t[/em. thanks for your response. [ANTIQUELADY]
yes i still love mysteries and i have some older nancy drew that i need to figure what to do with. i also love stephen king and dean koontz and many more. [bunnybon7]
GOOD MORNING bON, i USE TO SELL ON EBAY BUT HAVEN'T IN YEARS. I understand it's changed quite abit. Hope u have a great day. [ANTIQUELADY]
I love reading mystery stories. My favorite of them all is Nancy Drew. I love reading the details of her sleuthing. My heart race as I turn from page to page. I never put a book down witout finishing it and I usually finish reading in less than a couple of hours. Do you collect Nancy Drew mysteries? [giegrace]
i DON'T HAVE A ONE. i BET U COULD FIND THEM ON EBAY, MAYBE OLD BOOK STORES BUT THERE IS NONE OF THEM AROUND ME. [ANTIQUELADY]
I used to read Nancy Drew Mysteries. This was also the first book that I really learned to love. This is what made me love reading. The first Nancy Drew book that I had was The Moonstone Castle Mystery . I still have it up to this day. [hunieby]
She was my first love of reading to. I wish i still had my books. U are lucky u do, hang on to it, might be worth some money one of these days if it's not already. Thanks for responding. [ANTIQUELADY]
I used to read them while I was younger but I havent in a while now I am an adult.I love mysteries and I remembered reading the entire mystery section in my local library however back then I prefered the Hardy Boys,do you know them .I guess because I was a boy I oculd relate to them more than the Nancy Drew But loved them never the less [ronnyb]
