Who Reads John Grisham

i've just recently discovered the works of John Grisham although before i have seen some movies which were based on his novels. only i didn't appreciate it much then because i wasn't too fond of court battles and i wasn't concerned about who wrote the novel. if it weren't for a book sale, i wouldn't have discovered the compelling and exciting works of Grisham. ^__^;; the first book i read was The Brethren. the plot was really exciting and amazing and at many times i couldn't avoid skipping a few lines or a paragraph just to see what happens next. ^__^;; but i'd go back to those lines and that paragraph because i didn't want to miss anything. although the end was kinda left hanging, the whole novel itself made me like Grisham and made me buy another one of his works. i am currently reading The Testament. and i just can't wait to see how the story would end. i hope the Phelan heirs, except of course for Rachel Lance, and their scheming lawyers would get nothing, not even a dime. so who among you are fans of John Grisham? who have read one or two of his novels? or who have watched some of the movies based on his novels? happy

responses and comments:

I love John Grisham and I already read two of his bestselling books, The Partner and the Broker. I love the plot of both and it is always related to law/lawyers. [Megzzz]
hi megzz! yeah. Grisham's expertise is on court battles and i'm beginning to really like it. thanks for the response. happy [secretbear]

Hello secretbear, He is one of my favorites. I read his novels - The Broker, The Last Juror, The King of Torts, The Runaway Jury and a few more. I just love his novels. I watched the movie too, but it wasn't as good as the book. In fact, I don't really fond of court battle like you too but whenever I like the story, I will read and forget about everything else, until I finished it *smiles* [gr8life]
hi gr8life! i'm glad to know that you like John Grisham too! and yes, when a book is made into a movie, a lot changed. and its almost always better to read the book first than to see the movie first. happy [secretbear]

I have been collecting his books. My mum got his books as gifts from her friends. She doesnt like to read, but she knows im crazy about reading novels. I am not much into mystery and suspense novel, but when i first read his book, i got so interested. I have 5 of his books now. Although i never noticed before that most of his books are being used in films. It still doesnt do any justice. The details on the book is more of a good read than watching it in films. [sassyangelee]
hi sassyangelee! i agree. his books are better read than watched. i think those kinds of books, his genre are better read. so that we can read what's on the mind of the characters, the lawyers and the clients. we can better appreciate it that way. happy [secretbear]

The movies are good and we have seen several of them, some more than once, but I think the books are better than the movies. Three cheers for used books! [drannhh]
hi drannhh! yep. i think the books are better than the movies too. kampai! (cheers!) [secretbear]

yes. the first book i read by john grisham is a time to kill. though i need to read dit again for i may no longer remember too much of the story i read a lot of books for john grisham, sidney sheldon and roald dahl. i also read the chambers. mt sister led me the runaway jury and the street lawyer and i am so busy irealy dont have time to read. lol. but i will.... soon. i have a lot of books in my coset now and i havent touch them for a year or more. [roniroxas]
i tend to lose the excitement too if i stop reading a good book. its like losing the momentum to continue reading. and i agree. its easier to stop from internet surfing than to stop from reading. ^__^ yup. i got another two John Grisham books, The Firm and A Time to Kill. happy [secretbear]

I have read some of his books......The Client....and others I can't remember all the titles but my family kind of passed them around. They are very good books! Enjoy your reading experience! [jillhill]
hi jill! happy it seems Grisham is popular within your family. i'm looking forward on reading The Client. [secretbear]

HI secretbear, I have not tried reading any of his book and thanks for sharing this...I will be trying soon! [checapricorn]
i hope you do. he's a really good author. i have never enjoyed courtroom battles but now i do! happy [secretbear]

I have read so many grisham books and I still prefer Ludlum, Le carre, wilbur smith, fredrick forsyth and other suspense writers. i even like jeffrey deaver than grisham. The reason, grisham can not get my attention and I usually leave the books without finishing it. The words he used are not flowing and he is fond of the Military which I think is the reason why he wrote like that! LOL! [everlasting]
hi everlasting. happy i have only read two of his books so i can't really say that he is fond of the military. and i haven't read any of the books of the authors you mentioned and i actually know only Ludlum. ^__^;; i'll try and read one of his books too. happy [secretbear]

I haven't read any of his books but isn't he the author that made one of his books into a movie and Tom Cruise played the lead role? anyway I have heard that he is really good author so will have to get one and read it. [msmell]
hi msmell! i'm not sure if Tom cruise had starred in a movie based on Grisham's novels but there are a couple of movies which were based on his books and some were A Time to Kill, The Green Mile, and The Client. happy [secretbear]

i love John Grisham, I came across him by accident, I bought the book The Testament on a shelf at the thrift store, It is the best he has done I think, after reading it the rest just didn't come up to par for me, I used to have almost all his book, but gave them to a friend of mine who loves to read. I tell you another good author you would like is Stewart Woods, he has this detective that is really exciting. And I do a lot of James Patterson reading too. I hope you enjoy the Testament as much as I did, I think once you read it you will see his others don't come up to it. [bdugas]
hi bdugas! happy the end of The Testament was kinda hanging. i would have liked to know how the Phelan heirs reacted if they are told that all of their efforts in contesting the will of Troy Phelan went all in vain since Rachel gave it all to charity specifically the World Tribes Mission. but still, yes, i prefer its ending over The Brethren's ending which is more "open". i'm still looking forward on reading a lot of Grisham's book. and if i would come across a Stewart Woods book, i'd buy it because i like detective stories. happy [secretbear]

Hi Secretbear! I was introduced with John Grisham's books when i was still a kid and i became an avid reader of his works. I have a favorite though, A Time to Kill, The Firm, The Client, The Runaway Jury, and A Painted House. All are good books if you like books that tackles about common law. After reading my first Grisham book i was addicted to it and add one to my collection every year to make sure that i don't miss his good works. [gladeez]
hi gladeez! i'm glad to meet someone who's a real fan of Grisham. ^__^ hey, Grisham has a new book. The Appeal and Playing for Pizza. Playing for Pizza kinda sounds really interesting right? i hope they already have that on the "tiangge" where i bought all of my second hand books. happy [secretbear]

i have read several of his books and find that some of them are good while others lack an interesting plot. i find that prolific writers like him and Danielle Steel dont vary away from the plot that much...many of their books are similar. [cher913]
hi cher! happy i think that's what we call writing in their own genre. i guess what i will do is read his novels alternately with a different author so i won't go tired of his recurring plot. wink [secretbear]

John Grisham is my all time favorite author. A time to kill is one of my favorite book written by him. I wish to read more of his new novels but I'm a little bit busy now days. Maybe i will go shopping for his book next month.lol [lyzabelle]
hi lyzabelle! glad to meet another Grisham fan. i hope i can find that A Time To Kill book. the books in the thrift store are kinda limited. happy [secretbear]

I have read his first 12 books and enjoyed every one of them. I think that my favorites are "the client" about a boy witness and a lady lawyer and the "Rainmaker" a story about taking on the big insurance company that refused a clients treatment. For some reason i got away from reading his books I think I'll have start reading them again. [deebomb]
hi deebomb! i hope i'll be able to read those books too. you should read again! i think his new books sound interesting just by the titles of it. wink [secretbear]

I have read a couple of John Grishams books and they were very good. My husband just loves his books. He is a great and very talented writer. Another one of my favorite writers is Sue Grafton. I am trying to collect all her books. They go in alphabet. [us2owls]
hi us2owls! i agree. they are really talentes writes. its amazing how they can write about stuffs like it. i'm sure they do researches or whatsoever. [secretbear]

Good day... I'd always love John Grisham's novels when I first saw the novel turned movie, A time to kill. From then on I followed his work such as The Firm, the client and Pelican Brief among others. [blackmantra_x]
hi blackmantra! glad to meet you here as a Grisham fan. i'm looking forward on reading those novels you mentioned. happy [secretbear]

I've only read 1 of his books: Time to Kill. It was pretty good. n actual fact, I don't know why I haven't read more. Thanks or reminding me of this author!! I'll be going to the charity store and scoping out his books. [iooioio]
hi iooioio! well, i'm happy to remind you. ^__~ i haven't read A Time to Kill but i'll make sure to read that. [secretbear]

A time to Kill is a great book and movie. The Client is a great book but only a soso movie.I think most movies made from his books are okay except A Time to Kill was was excellent. I have read all of Grishams books except for 2. He is a great writer. [rae777]
hi rae! i'm happy to meet another Grisham fan. well, i am not surprised if the movies aren't as good as the novels. a lot novel-based movies are like that. [secretbear]

I usually don't watch the movies, but I love his books. I have a bunch of them and I think I've read all of them at least twice. [Katlady2]
hi katlady! you read them twice? wow. you must really love his books. well, i can't wait to read more of his novels. i just finished The Testament and i'm wondering which i would read next. happy [secretbear]

I'm notr so sure about the movies but I've read several of his books. He can't compare with John Le Carre who is always my favourite but he is quite good. Some years ago my sister gave me one of his books as a Christmas present and I was hooked. It was the one based in the Amazon where an hieress received a huge fortune from her father ahead of a bunch of failed family members. Quite a story. [Bluepatch]
hi bluepatch! yes! that's the one i just finished reading. The Testament. Troy Phelan left his wealth worth eleven billion dollars to his illegitimate child Rachel Lane who was a missionary in the Pantanal (just like Amazon) in Brazil. it was a really good story. [secretbear]

i have read and also seen the movies of all of his early publications like the firm, pelican brief and the likes. i can say that i loved all of it. they are thrilling, engaging and a page-turner. i only stopped when i studied again. glad you found him and seem to really like his works. enjoy your future grisham novel! ^_^ [sapphirelilac88]
hi sapphirelilac! his books are really engaging! its hard to put it down when you want to take a break because you just can't wait to learn what happens next. ^__^;; [secretbear]

I have read a good number of John Grisham's novels in the past. I find the stories really entertaining and fast paced. I like his earlier works better though. His recent novels are good but there seems to be less passion in there comapred to his earlier novels. His first novel, A Time To Kills was really gut wrenching. [alindahaw]
h alindahaw! (do you speak ilonggo? ^__~) gut-wrenching huh. i really have to check that one out. you got me really curious and excited. happy [secretbear]

I am a huge John Grisham fan- I have read A Time to Kill, The Brethern, The Testament, Bleachers, The Firm, The Last Juror, The Partner, The Broker, The Pelican Brief and The Summons. As far as movies go I did enjoy watching A Time to Kill, although I think the book was much better. I also saw The Pelican Brief and The Firm- which were both very good and comparible to the book- but because I am a reader- I enjoyed the book much more :) [warmweatherwoman]
hi warmweatherwoman! i'm really happy that i met a lot of Grisham fans here. before i thought i will never get more than a page of responses. ^__^ gives me reason to read more of his works. wink [secretbear]

Though I love to read books, i really don't know who john grisham is. Then when I visited a friend's house, i notice this book entitled " The Chamber". I read the summary at the back of the book and somehow the story interests me.. Then when I started reading it, I just can't stop my self from reading it. It was a good book for me, though I haven't watch it's movie yet. [fatal_pastel]
hi fatal_pastel! i'm going to read that book too! i'm glad we both discovered John Grisham. happy [secretbear]

I don't know about John Grisham.. but i know about Todd Grisham.. who is the American announcer/presenter of WWE. LOL.. more about Todd Grisham.. Grisham debuted in WWE in 2004, becoming the voice of Heat, doing play-by-play alongside Jonathan Coachman, Josh Mathews, and others over a near four year period. Grisham also formerly co-hosted The WWE Experience with Lisa Moretti (Ivory), but after her release, he hosted it alone until mid-2006, when Josh Mathews started Hosting the show. He also hosted WWE's premier web show, WWE Byte This!, which was cancelled in 2006. In addition, he does backstage interviews for the Raw brand. He also began hosting Raw's catch-up program WWE Bottom Line after Marc Lloyd was released from the company. Grisham also hosted WWE Unlimited segments, a web-only broadcast that allows viewers to witness events during commercial breaks of Raw. On May 1, 2006 Grisham called the main event on Raw, alongside Jerry "The King" Lawler, filling in for Joey Styles, who had just quit, in storyline. During an episode of WWE.com's Byte This!, he responded to a letter sent in by controversial superstar The Ultimate Warrior where Warrior declined the invite to come to the show to talk about his DVD, The Self Destruction of the Ultimate Warrior. During the letter, Warrior insulted recovering cancer patient Bobby Heenan and called Todd Grisham "gay". Todd responded in good humor by saying he may have experimented in college, but that was no reason for that claim. Grisham also participated in a series of conversations on Byte This! with fans of Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) who interrupted the show to both proclaim TNA a superior product, or to insult Todd directly when he chose to sugarcoat and dodge TNA related questions, Todd retaliated with his own retorts, some humorous, and some hostile (once calling one TNA fan a "retard"). Grisham became the new play-by-play commentator for the ECW brand on July 29, 2008. [saivenkaat802003]
thanks for the info saiven. [secretbear]

I have read and watched "The Firm". It was better reading the book, because the book talks in detail about what the characters felt. Although, Tom Cruise was a good actor, I still enjoyed the book more than the film. John Grisham is indeed a brilliant writer. [Jenaisle]
hi jenaisle! yeah. most of the times its better to read the book rather than watching the film which is based on it. for this kind of genre, that every characters thoughts are important, its better to read the book. happy [secretbear]

Hello there my friend, secretbear. Apologies for my long absence. I think that John Grisham is a fantastic writer, but unfortunately, I've yet to read some of his other great titled books. The one and only I've read is The Runaway Jury, and I watched a movie version of it as well. Though I would prefer the book anytime, because it is more intense, more real and the words used were pretty powerful that I could imagine the plots and etc. I didn't know what happened after I've read this book, I've conveniently forget about him and concentrate on other writers. I would have to come back to this author, and read some of his other writings. [zed_k4]
You are definitely a book lover..good for you ... [zed_k4]

I love reading John Grisham books, I have read every one! My favorite will always be the Firm. [kellys3ps]
thanks for the response kellys! with you having said that, i can't wait to read The Firm. i just bought it. happy [secretbear]

I first knew about John Grisham through his movies, from his novels-turned-into-movies. When I saw a few of his works on a book sale, I simply had to get a copy of 'em. I like his works. It's great that some of his novels have been made into movies already. I haven't read all of his books though, only a few. But John Grisham is surely one of the amazing authors that I like. [MariaD]
thanks for the response MariaD. he's a really good author. and good looking too. lol [secretbear]

I am a big fan of John Grisham and enjoy his books tre mendously, though they are mostly court related as you say. I enjoyed the Client, The Firm, and many others. i have a big collection of his books. I like reading them again and again. I also enjoy Fredrik Forsyths book. You must read them. Amazing and keeps you glued. [ketybhagat]
thanks for the recommendation kethy. i'll try to look for a Fredrik Forsyth book in the book sale i've been going to. happy [secretbear]

WHo is JOhn Grisham?? hehe =D I have not heard of him just yet ^_^ I guess it willb e easier to tell me what are those movies based on his novels, and i will have a better idea of how he is like, rather than asking me to read his books and capture how he is like.. haha =D [kun2349]
Oh ya, i remember now.. I saw the movie on HBO, but i din watch the movie because it's way too old and slow moving for me.. lol [kun2349]

I have The Pelican Brief and The Firm. He is a good writer though his novels are most of the lawyer type. Have a nice day and take care! [Zelmarq]
Yes, I know he was and I still love it, I like his style. [Zelmarq]

I love his books! I haven't been able to read any of his newer books. [Bd200789]
hi Bd! i haven't read any of his most recent books too. but i'm looking forward to it. happy [secretbear]

I have been meaning to read one of his books. I this list that I make of books that I want to read and there are a bunch of his books there but I haven't gotten to them yet. Hopefully I do get to read them soon because I've read a few excerptss and they sound pretty good. [ayumitakashi]
i am recommending you to read his novels ayumi-chan. if you like court related novels, you'd enjoy his novels too. happy in my case, i didn't really like court related novels but Grisham made me like it. wink [secretbear]

hi secretbear! its been a long time since i posted here in mylot. to answer you question, yes i do enjoy reading john grisham. i started with his 'a time to kill' which is kinda similar to a book 'to kill a mocking bird'. i loved his the pelican brief, the firm and the rainmaker. i was bored with his runaway jury but i am wanting to read his street lawyer. lately i've noticed a new novel out on NBS, i just forgot the title but the synopsis is not like any of his previous books. no lawyers there just an ex-NFL player hired by a small-town italian football team. i really got my interest and i might just buy it soon as i have the budget. [kuting]
hi kuting! yeah. i haven't been seeing you for a while. i hope you are doing fine. i haven't read A Time to Kill but i have the book already. i am currently reading The Firm and the first chapter is interesting and its kinda promising me a good book. ^__~ wow. he wrote a book without any lawyer on it? that would be something new to read. [secretbear]

Hi Secretbear, I am a fan of John Grisham.wub Broker is the first book of his that I read. I really like it and after that I collected many of his books and read them whenever I find time. So far I ve read A time to kill, Pelican Brief,The Summons, The Last Juror, The Partner, The Rain Maker. I liked all his works and soon going to finish any book that I can lay my hands on [pkraj111]
hi pkraj! glad to hear you're a Grisham fan. i didn't know he has a novel titled Broker. i guess i didn't notice it in his website. anyway, his novels-turned-into-movies are A Time to Kill, Runaway Jury, The Pelican Brief, The Client, The Rainmaker, The Firm, The Gingerbread Man, A Painted House, Mickey and Christmas with the Kranks. happy [secretbear]

I like John Grisham... All of his books are great... I like the Street Lawyer... all his books tackle on courts.. [shadowkill]
yes. all of his books are lawyer- and court-related. its kind of a new thing to me because i usually read fiction and classics like that of LM Montgomery, Stephen King and Anne Rice. but i like suspense so that's probably why i like Grisham's novels. happy [secretbear]

I absolutely love John Grisham. I read many of his books years ago. The movies don't always do the books justice. I've been lucky enough to read the books before the movies came out. There is a particular book by Grisham though that runs along another path. That one has not been able to grab me the way his other books have. His non-legal fiction just doesn't interest me as much I suppose. My husband, knowing my love of Grisham novels, bought a book called "Skipping Christmas" by him and brought it to me while I was in the hospital. I have tried several times to read it, but I keep giving it up for something more interesting. [michelyn]
hi michelyn! so this Skipping Christmas book is not that interesting? i'm still looking for other Grisham books, though i am still currently reading The Firm, but i mostly see his novels that got really popular and made into a film. i am hoping to find his old novels too. happy [secretbear]

I also read John Grisham A Time to Kill you should read it, I am reading now his book titled The Client. I am loving it, but I am not through. I will try the books you mention. John Grisham is a super nova. LOL. [grecychunny26]
hi grecy! happy i am currently reading A Time to Kill and i got really interested in it so i checked out the movie. all the while i was reading it, i was imagining Samuel L. Jackson playing the role of the father whose daughter had been raped. and i was right! Samuel L. Jackson really did play the role. i haven't watched the movie though, i think i will watch it after i finished reading the book. happy [secretbear]

hello! I am a fan of John Grisham, thanks. Am glad you're a new member of the club. I've read a lot of his books - The Firm, A Painted House, The Client, The Pelican Brief, The Partner, The Street Lawyer, The Rainmaker, The Chamber, A Time to Kill, The Broker, and of course, The Brethren, and the The Testament. I still yet to read his The Appeal. I really enjoyed the plots, and the unexpected shifts in Grishom's stories. Happy reading secretbear! You should check out the list girl! [patchmypal]
Thanks so much for the best response mark!! see ya around secretbear... [patchmypal]

I am a John Grisham fan. I read many of his novels but my all-time favorite is "A Time to Kill". I have seen the movie version, but sorry to say it pales in comparison to the novel. It has been quite a while since I read his novels though. My book interests varies from legal or courtroom drama, romance, harry potter series, lord of the rings, Tom Clancy, Sidney Sheldon, Kahlil Gibran, Anne Rice vampire novels and just recently Stephanie Meyers' Twilight Series... [sunbeams]

i have read one of his books. it just happened that me and my wife had watched the movie based on that book. and after sometimes, we came to know that one of our friends had it, so i read it to see what differs from the book and the movie. i like the movie and i also enjoy reading the book. by the way, the title of the book and the movie is "a time to kill". i have also watched the pelican brief but though i seen a the book, i did not read it. for me it's enough to see the movie. [neildc]
