I was re-organizing the books that I have earlier today and I dig out some old books that I have and read a long ago. I am reading them and find that I forgot most of the content. Do you do that too? Do you re-read the books that you have/ love from time to time to refresh your memories? What are the books that you re-read most?

I have a habit of re-reading books too even if i already know how the story goes. Sometimes I forget details and I confuse some books with others. One of the books I've read several times are Harry Potter books 1-7, Lord of the Rings and my Sue Grafton collection. [puchapox]
I have Lord of the Rings at home but it's in English and it's a bit hard for me! I would wait till I have enough time to slowly go through the book (I might have to use dictionary too!). [wondericequeen]

I only buy books that I like, so I will always find myself re-reading one or another at different times. I certainly wont own any book that I would'nt read again sometime in the future.The books that I most often re-read are western and adventure novels.!!!LOL!!! [JUNGLE]

Books that I read again now seem so different from books read earlier, because now I am older and have more life experience. Therefore I can see things now that went zipping past before. I'm afraid the books I re-read most are largely ones that nobody here ever heard of, but one of my favorites is "John Brown's Body" by Steven Vincent Benet. This well-known story is a beautifully written and gripping poetic history of the US Civil War. Although extremely difficult to understand by those not used to intellectual effort, Benet has great respect and compassion for ordinary people which makes the work far more interesting to me than a history textbook. Those tend instead to be filled with dates and so-called facts. The user reviews under the listing for this book on Amazon.com are extremely telling. One calls it a "breathtaking epic" and another intends to burn it. Shudder. [drannhh]
Thanks, maybe I should check that out someday! I am always interested in books on history but I find it too boring to read mostly history stuff! Stories illustrating historical facts would be my favourite. [wondericequeen]

I'm 49 years old, so many books I read 20 or 30 years ago. So yes, I don't remember a lot of them. My husband rereads a lot of his books. Until I met my husband, I didn't really read many adult storybooks, mostly historical, and resource books. But he got me reading historical romances. Then I started reading paranormal and magical romance stories. But those are just since 2000 and I've forgotten much about them too. [writersedge]

I read all my Sidney Sheldon books over and over again. I've read Master of the Game 4 times now in about 10 years. I can't throw them out or give them away. I have so many books of his and they are almost all hard cover books. I will always keep them. [OreoCookie3]

sometimes i do that. especially if i love the book and i love some scenes i tend to read it over and over again. LOL and then i tend to go back to some chapters if the book has a sequel and im reading the sequel and i forget something that is mentioned in the sequel. ^__^;; i dont like reading on with something unclear. yeah alot of book I re- read again most are some great novels such as harry potter, lord of the rings, mathilda and etc and the others some manga. I really love to read books. I have so many, and I don't have enough cupboard to keep so I had put some of my books in the boxes. my mom told me that I should open a small library for children and teenager so my books will be usefull. I'm constantly re-visiting old favourites, or books that I once read but didn't enjoy or 'get'. It definitely expands my mind and takes me back to that time. Also, I feel like it's a waste of money to buy a book you only read once. [Malyck]

I would read a book once but my mom would read her mystery books over and over again. She had two of three authors that she really liked and she had all their books and she would read them over and over again.I think she must have read each book at least 4 times. [sarahruthbeth22]

Absolutly! I love my books and have a lot of favorites in which I keep in a box to one day read again. I can't remember all the details of every book that I've read so reading them again years and years down the road is almost like reading it for the first time. Not only that, but I catch things that I missed the first time which only makes it all the more interesting. The ones I've saved are usually romance stories of the long lost past. lol Or even biographies if they're interesting enough. This one book I dearly loved called "Any Given Day" is about the life of this old lady from a child on up and her hard life of ups and downs with an alcholic husband. It's a really good book in which I've saved along with a few others. [CatsandDogs]

Very Good Post Indeed! I completely agree with you, that sometime it happens that we forget the contents of a book, which we read earlier. So I also go through my old books again, whenever it is possible, just to revise them and enlighten me again. It is always a great pleasure to read old books again. [dpk262006]

I typically didn't in the past, but as I am getting older I realized I had no idea how certian books played out. Just this past month or two I have started re-reading James Patterson and Iris Johansen. If I could I would spend a good bit of my days reading, but time just doesn't allow. [babybug2]

Of course! I've read so many books, watched so many movies, seen so many plays, that after a while, they all become a blur! I can read a book years later, not remember much about the book, and thus build up the suspense around the climax of the book all over again! [lazywalt99]

The Harry Potter Books, Narnia Chronicles, Adventure of Sherlock Holmes Vol. 1 and 2. i have re read all of them a minimum of 2 times. Some I have more times than I care to count. [crazypumpkin]

When I was a child, I re-read Little Women over and over. Now I occasionally re-read a book, sometimes because I want something to read and am not able to go to the library, or other times I want to refresh my memory of the book before I read another book in the series. My daughter re-read the first 6 Harry Potter books this summer to be ready for the book 7. [caver1]
