happy Hello all. Since I am an avid reader, I would love to hear what is on your own reading list lately. It can be anything and everything :))
Mine:
I am going through the Bible a chapter a day for the 3rd time
Reading the novel, "Everyone is Beautiful," which is great so far, and very funny!
There are about a dozen blogs I follow and love to read whenever they post something new
I read online or in several magazines to research topics for my own writing
I enjoy reading some of the news, as well.
Your turn :))

responses and comments:
Well, I am mostly reading recommended books for college bound students. I'm also trying to read some sci-fi books. I've read all of Michael Chrichton's books. Right now I'm reading a book by Nicholas Sparks "The Rescue" and a book called "Candy Freak". I don't really read much online because I can't concentrate on the computer screen. [loves2read]
happy Hi Love2Read...My daughter is aiming for her BA, and when she has interesting required reading, she always loans me the books when she's done with them. I always enjoy them! My boyfriend loves reading Michael Chrichton, like you do. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
I go on binges and will read 2 and three books a week for months and then none for months. Generally when the weather gets colder I get on a reading kick. Of course I read articles and blogs on line all the time, scan papers and magazines for ideas for articles, always checking how-to sites and books. In the last two months since it started getting cool some of the books I have read and enjoyed are: The Thorn Birds, The Last Juror, The Chase by Brenda Joyce (excellent book), Nights of Rain and Stars, The Second Time Around, The Glass Lake. That is all the titles I can remember. [paintswithwords]
The titles alone make me interested in what lies inside the books :) [PeacefulWmn9]
Hey Peaceful! I also love to read! I have read four interesting books during the summer and one that was not so great, but forced myself to finish it anyone! Right now I am reading A Book of Dreams, by Sylvia Browne! She is a well reknowned Pyschic! I had read another book by another Pyschic during the summer, by an author named Rolana and enjoyed that one too! I also read Chelsea Handlers book "A Horizontal Life", which was pretty funny and I am going to read another of her books when I finish the one that I am reading now! I have a variety of books that I have bought online and in stores for clearance prices. I definitely have a wide variety of types from mysteries to humor to keep me going! [Opal26]
happy Hi Opal. I love to find great deals on books, and then I can keep them to reread when I come across ones that I really like. I also check out a lot of books from the library. I can see you enjoy a wide variety of authors...have you tried anything by Jodi Picoult yet? I love her novels. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
Hi PeacefulWmn9 Really a very good habit the reading is. And the book "Everyone is Beautiful"..... the title indicate that it must be a pleasant reading book. I feel the curiosity to read that book. Though I know nothing about the book you sited here, but as the title is quite uncommon so definitely the content has some interesting things. [reeyan]
happy I will try to find the book in English at our local library :)) [PeacefulWmn9]
Hi again, Peaceful. happy I read anything and everything, but go through phases. Lately I've been going through phases involving Christian romance (the only romance I read since the rest is quite focused on the physical), "Wizard's First Rule", an older fantasy novel that is going to be on TV soon, "Shutter Island", a thriller that will soon be a movie, and I've been looking for a new true crime novel since all the ones on my shelf are read. I recently read some historical fiction novels about Genghis Khan by Conn Iggulden that were nothing short of amazing to me. I always get into phases of reading the Bible as well, but if I try to read it front to back I've gotten as far as Exodus before moving onto fiction books and coming back to it later. I've taught myself to read a different book of the Bible each phase so maybe someday I'll get it all read...rolleyes [LovingLife139]
happy I'm sure the library has the triology...so I will get it there. I think you'll enjoy the List, and while it is not considered to be a romance, if you enjoy Christian reading and haven't done so...you'd probably love The Shack. My daughter loaned it to me. Fascinating! Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
my latest reading list is story will which my little sister bought,so i want to read it.i find that was wonderful about story will.i was intereting.although details of story seems very exaggerated, but it really express real life and people's need.sometimes i read this book,i find that i can relax from tirement and pressure. [bingchen]
happy Hello to you :) I love that about reading too, that it's relaxing and draws one in to an entirely different world for a while. What is the name of the book your sister loaned you? It sounds interesting from what you've described about it :) Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
Currently I am reading a murder mystery by Joy Fielding called Puppet. Although I am reading another book on the side, which is called Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain. It is like the fifth time I have read it but I still can't get enough of it. I plan on reading the Davinci Code next. I may also read this other book my mom keeps trying to get me to read called, "She Flies Without Wings" it actually looks really good, it's about horses. [snafushe]
happy Hello Snafushe. I love murder mysteries...especially the ones that keep you guessing right up until the end of the book. And oh, The Davinci Code...what a great book that is. I've read Angels and Demons, too, and it is even better! Dan Brown is a great writer. And yes, the book your mom recommends sounds like it would be a good read. Like you, when I love a book, I always have to read more than just once or twice :) Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
Stephen Baxter's latest book and Charles de Lint's latest story collection. And then I start on Orson Scott Card's second Ender series... [dawnald]
Me too and it's so seldom that I get to go back and reread anything. Dawn [dawnald]
Hi Karen, I'm a bookaholic with nothing at all new to read. There's a house full of books which have been read and re read, and my only source for the last couple of years has been from the book swaps which just isn't the same. I'm so itching to get my hands on the new Douglas Kennedy book and there are three out by Nikki French, but frugality rules at the moment. I'm waiting for a parcel of books though as its my sons birthday next week and I found an online place which ships books for free, so I sneaked in an order for a serial killer at the same time. [thea09]
Hm, have you considered downloading e-books? Most are free. I cannot imagine "no libraries." That would make me sad! [PeacefulWmn9]
I have three books lined up. I'm currently reading Stephenie Meyer's New Moon. Next on my list is Michael Connelly's Brass Verdict. It's another Harry Bosch novel so I'm excited to get to that book. The last would be Mark Winegardner's The Godfather Returns. It's the sequel to Mario Puzo's The Godfather. All three books are distinct from one another. I can say that I love a variety of books. I'm so excited!! :-) [arystine]
Hi Arystine. Ah, what an interesting line-up you have there to be read. Like you, I love variety in my reading and am not just into a single genre. I think reading is just one of the greatest pleasures in the world. It takes us places we may never go otherwise. The talent of a good writer never ceases to amaze me :) Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
gOOD mONDAY MORNING, KAREN, I also love to read. i read the newspaper every day & i always have a book going. I just started a new one last night. it comes highly reccomended by the friend that gave it to me . it is SURVIVAL ON THE FITTEST BY JONATAHN KELLERMAN. i JUST READ ONE CHAPTER LAST NIGHT AFTER I FINISHED A BOOK THAT I WAS READING.It wasn't worth reccomending. MERRY CHRISTMAS. [ANTIQUELADY]
happy Hi Jo (waving eagerly!) I hope you had a great night :) I love everything about reading, including the smell of a newspaper, magazine, or book lol. I'm sorry the book your friend recommended was a let down. I seldom read beyond the first or second chapter if I'm not into a book by then. I set it aside and find a better one :)) Have a beautiful day. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
Hi Karen, You know what i recently was gifted with a Bible and I am already onto it. Apart from it I am also reading this book called "Negotiation Genius" Its a very good book so far. happy [bodhisatya]
happy Hello Bodhisatya...nice to have you back on MyLot! I enjoy the Bible, bit by bit, as it contains so much. Each time I read anything in it, I discover something new...and gain a deeper understanding. This time around, I began with the new testament and am now in Acts. I've not heard of the Negotiation Genius, but I will see what I can find out about it online. I'm always on the look-out for something new and good to read! Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
Hi there Karen Well I have my favourite Authors lol and right now I am reading Trust me by Lesley Pearce I like her books they are great and enjoyable I only like reading my Books when I am comfortable in my Bed at Night I can then loose myself in my Book and enjoy my Read [gabs8513]
happy Hi Gabs. Yes, we soon learn which authors we enjoy the most :) For many years, when my children we all still home, like you, I read in bed each night. It was quiet and without interruptions, so I could fully enjoy the book! Enjoy your latest one :) Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
Hello Karen, I just finished reading Rumours of Another World (What on Earth are We Missing?) by Philip Yancey. It is an excellent book examining the finding of new perspectives and outlooks on life. Now I will just wait patiently for Xmas morning, someone is sure to gift me with new additions to my home library. Happy & Healthy Holiday wishes to you and yours, Malamar [malamar]
happy Hello Malamar The title of the book you're currently reading sounds fascinating :) Like you, I always look forward to at least one new book as a Christmas gift. We seem to be a family of readers :) I wish you and yours the best blessing of Christmas and a happy New Year, as well. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
Hello PeacefulWmn9 this is checkmail and me too like reading whenever am having some spare time.In the mornings its newspapers and magzines, later after the bath use to read some epic books, its an lengthy and entertaining.Apart from this used to read out some recipes, as well as surf online for some interesting materials, mostly IT based, as am s.e.But lately have been reading an book on some medicines, mostly ayurveda, and its diff varieties of medical treatments.Well its an interesting stuff as comparing the diff treatments there is really an diff in it, and this kind of reading will always be helpful to me in mine near future. Anyways Happy mylotting. [checkmail]
happy Hi Checkmail :) Like you, I read a wide variety of materials. Short of actual experience, it's the best way in the world I know to learn to things or keep up with what is going on. I love epic novels. It's always sad to me when a good story ends too soon! Enjoy your reading, and happy MyLotting to you, too. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
My reading passion tends to be mainly detective novels, sorry to say I took a book out by Lynda La Plante one of my favourite authors and it took me too long to read it, I tried to extend the time but someone had already reserved it at the library so I had to take it back half finished. It does take me ages to read a book, sadly because the internet tends to take over! Before the internet I used to read book after book after book and would get through them very quickly, so the internet in that respect is not always a good thing. I really should get back into reading again. And maybe in the new year get the Lynda La Plante book out again and finish it this time, maybe that should be one of my new years resolutions ha ha ha! [wolfie34]
happy Hi Wolfie Ah yes, the internet seems to have changed the reading habits of many of us. But I still love to be reading a good book at any given time. Like you, I often have to renew the ones I get from the library lol. I do remember the days, though, of reading several novels in just a weeks time. I don't think I could ever not be reading aside from the internet, however much more slowly lol. Take care... Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
The next books on my list are "Jesus For President" by Shane Claiborne and "Small is Beautiful" by E.F. Shumacher. :) I have a couple weeks off of school so I'm excited to actually get to read something for myself without having to worry about remembering every point and writing an essay. [murderistic]
happy Hello Murderistic I love the titles alone of the books next on your list. Perhaps I'll read them too! It's good you'll have the time off school to enjoy them. Have a wonderful time doing so. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
Here are a few that are on my "to-read" list: 1.) Here's the Story - Maureen McCormick (Just finished reading. Really great memoir! I started a discussion about it a few days ago, too, if you're interested in checking it out (I don't have the link offhand, sorry!). 2.) Straight up and Dirty - a memoir by Stephenie Klein. (I'm about halfway through this one right now, it's OK, but nothing to brag about!) 3.) Unsweetined: a Memoir by Jodi Sweetin (I really want to read this! I love these ex-Child Star memoirs!) 4.) Priceless Memories - Bob Barker (I love Bob Barker!) 5.) Are you There Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea - Chelsea Handler (I love her as a writer, I'm interested in addiction nonfiction/alcoholism, and she's also really funny. I can't wait to read this!) 6.) The Truth about Diamonds - Nicole Richie. I'm mainly just curious to see if she can write at all, is what it is! 7.) Remember Me? - Sophie Kinsella. I'd like to read this one, because I'm a huge fan of Sophie Kinsella! 8.) Miles to Go - Miley Cyrus. I'm not a Miley fan, but I'm really curious as to what kind of 'memoir' a 15 year old can write. Hmmm.. I'll let you know how that goes. lol. Those are books that have been on my "list" for a while. I'm also trying to sneak in a little political fiction here and there! [maezee]
happy Hi Maezee With a list like that, you must enjoy reading as much as I do! The titles alone do sound fascinating. Memoirs are fascinating. We get such a different perspective on famous people than the public persona they present. And yes, let us know what goes into the making of the memoirs of a 15-year old. That should definitely be interesting. Of course, Miley Cyrus, or any of the child stars have usually lived more in a short time than many do in a lifetime. Thank you for sharing your list :) Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
Right now i'm reading the works of anton checkhov. Not his plays but his short stories like Darling and lady with the lapdog. i'm also reading pirate latitudes which is the latest book by Michael Crichton published after his death. i've just finished Anna Karenina which is okay but not great. i'm planning to read 1984 which i've never read but heard it was good. [satan88]
happy Hello Satan...when I first glanced at your screen name, I thought it said Santa lol. You love some of the deeper reading. It always draws me in, the stories that really make me think or show more than just a glimpse into the mind of the author. Enjoy them all, and thank you for sharing your reading list. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
Hello, Peacefulwmn.:-) I love to read, too. But with my schedules and the many things that bother my health, I don't have much time to do that therefore, disabling myself to finish a book as soon as I want. JUst like now, I am only half way done to reading "While I was Gone" by Sue Miller. It is a great book depicting marriage life situation and one person's apprehensions and uncertainties despite her achievements and happy married life.:-) I am also scouting for my favorite author, Sidney Sheldon's latest edition.I hope I can find something really worth reading after "While I was Gone".:-) Have a Merry Christmas:-) [eurekafemme]
happy Hi Eureka Sheldon and Miller...both great authors. I'm sorry your schedule and health issues hinder you from reading as much or as quickly as you like. But however slow we must go, reading is still a wonderful thing to do, so enjoy as you can. Merry Christmas to you, too :) Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
Having just finished a semester I've got a ton of time to finally read some of the books I want to read. First on the list is Bonfire of the Vanities which i started in the summer but put on hiatus when m semester began. A friend of mine loaned me Thus spoke zarathustra by Nietzche which she read for her philosophy class. Besides those I dont really have anything else lined up, but my uncle usually gives me good books as gifts so I may recieve the latter parts of my reading list for christmas. [Farside604]
happy Hi there :) Those are some heavy-duty books to read, so I think you don't need anything else lined up at the moment :) But I imagine you'll enjoy them and get a lot out of them. My daughter always loans me her required reading books for college classes when she's finished reading them. They are deep...but taking the time to read them has been a good experience. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
I read only financial book because I don't have time for other kind of books. I want to read again these next days Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. Do you read this book? [balanica]
happy You're welcome, and Happy Holiday to you, as well :) [PeacefulWmn9]
yes even i love to read even tho i am not christian can u pelase give me some online links where i can read it thanks in advance [onida143]
happy Hello Onida :) I do not read only Christian books, but many other kinds, as well. I don't know if there is a place on line for one to read an entire book. You could search Google to see if such exists. If you enjoy buying books, they have many through Amazon.com or Ebay.com that you can buy for a small price used. And you can choose titles and then read a description of the books :) Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
i love reading my latest reading is o novel "two solitudes" by Hugh maclennon it's a good novel in which he depicts the racial differences of Canada. [freelance786]
I would hope for a day to come when race is not a priority, but there will always be some people who will not let that happen. So I hope for those kind of people to become more and more rare! [PeacefulWmn9]
My latest reading list has actually been a rereading list. For the last several months I've been rereading books that it has been a while since I've read. Yesterday I just finished reading Edge of Winter by Luanne Rice and then I started reading Flashback by Michael Palmer. I'm actually hoping that maybe someone will give me some new books for Christmas because it has been since Mother's Day that I've bought any more new books for myself. [dorannmwin]
happy Hi Dorann. I often do that, which is the only reason I hang onto some books, but not others. I keep the ones I love specifically so that I can read them as many times as I wish :) I hope Santa does bring you some new ones. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
Hello my friend PeacefulWmn9 Ji, Openly and frankly speakig my reading is now restricted to some of my Hindi Novels under any heading, before I retire to bed. It has ben my habit since I started reading. Initially, it used to be some course book, then later on it took my Famina magzines/knitting designs etc. But now as an od person, I relax with novels. May God bless You and have a great time. [maygodblessu44]
Hello my friend PeacefulWmn9 Ji, As I said you are lucky. One of my friend here has her mother as old as 91 yrs. and She asked me to come to her residence to meet her, as she can not dvote more time as She has to look after her mother and She can not afford to be away from home for longer time. Once I read all this I get raaly that tehre are people who take care of their parents. My hubby once saved following about another Lady member, who had her moteh more than 100 yrs from your country. I will bring out as below :- "The oldest person I know personally is 109 years old and still walks into church every Sunday morning. Did you know: US - Senior citizens are fastest growing age group online. Old age consists of ages nearing the average life span of human beings, and thus the end of the human life cycle – gee that's really something to look forward to my life is nothing but downhill from here on out. 36.2 years was the median age in 2005 – that means when you pass this age you are now in the old half of the population. In 2006 there were over 70,000 living US residents over 100 years old. Over 50% of US citizens over the age of 65 live below poverty level. 47.28 US citizens over the age of 75 suffer from depression – the majority of the causing factors for depression are health problems and lack of socialization. 100 Years Ago In America The average life expectancy in the U.S. was 47 years. Only 14 percent of the homes in the U.S. had a bathtub. Only 8 percent of the homes had a telephone. A three-minute call from Denver to New York City cost eleven dollars. The average wage in the U.S. was 22 cents per hour. The average U.S. worker made between $200 and $400 per year. More than 95 percent of all births in the U.S. took place at home. Ninety percent of all U.S. doctors had no college education. Most women only washed their hair once a month, and used borax or egg yolks for shampoo. The population of Las Vegas, Nevada, was only 30! Two out of every 10 U.S. adults could not read or write. Only 6 percent of all Americans had graduated from high school. Sure glad I didn't live back then! Just a few of the things someone born 100 years ago has lived through: World War I (1914-1928) ,The Great Depression (1929-1939) , ,World War II (1941-1945) Korean War (1950-1953) , Vietnam War (1959-1975) , , Persian Gulf War (1991 – Iraq) The War on Terrorism (2003 –)" May God bless You and have a great time. [maygodblessu44]
Hi friend, I like reading any king of books. My latest book was "born to win" and "the monk who sold his ferrari". I will read books like investigating books novels magazines technology and information books college subject books. I will download the ebooks. have a good day. [23uday]
happy Hello 23 I also love variety in my reading. "The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari." The title alone makes the book sound interesting. I think reading is one of the best ways in the world to keep on learning! Thank you for sharing your own preferences :)) Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
